Was this what my brother got up to when he wasn't at work I shook my head I couldn't believe he
would go in that cage with those scary looking guys, they looked crazy. He did say he was going to
work tonight I looked around hoping he didn't mean here.
The larger guy wrestling started throwing punches into the smaller one but I had to look away I had
seen enough. I walked along the balcony passing a few boys but they were occupied with the fight.
I searched the crowd and my eyes landed on a boy on the other side of the cage. He had his hands
wrapped up and was wearing tight shorts he was probably going to be fighting soon, but it was the
person he was chatting to that had caught my attention, Micah.
The two of them were chatting casually Micah actually looked like he cracked a smile once or
twice. Micah then fist bumped the guy and was on the move up the stairs to the balcony.
I panicked and turned to go back down the stairs I had just come up but they were crammed with
people again. I pulled my hood further over my head and looked behind me where there was a door
open I made a bee line for it.
I walked into what looked like a a large VIP lounge with a bar along the side. I turned around to see
the walls actually had windows in them so I could see all the way along the balcony. I hadn't noticed
them from the other side I got the feeling you could only see out from this side.
There was a group of people sitting on the couches, all guys except for one girl with blonde hair and
black streaks. They were all drinking, laughing and messing around, they looked like a bunch of
college kids barely older than me.
But come to think of it she was the first girl I had seen in this place probably because there weren't
many girls that would want to come to a place like this surrounded by drunk guys to watch cage
fighting. Someone walked in and shut the door, my heart jumped into my mouth for a second before
I realised it wasn't Micah.
I didn't think I was supposed to be in here so I quickly moved away from the group, the lounge was
quite large so I walked along the side looking out the windows but I couldn't see Micah anywhere
along the balcony, he had disappeared.
“Well what do we have here?” A voice said from behind me.
I turned around and saw a tall skinny guy with short brown hair and a gold earring in one ear, he
was dressed in baggy jeans and a red chequered shirt he didn't look very VIP.
“Hello, I've never seen you here before,”
He stepped closer. “I should probably be going,” I said turning to leave but another guy appeared
and blocked the way.
“What's the rush, little one. Stay have a drink with us,” He motioned to the bar area.
“I don't drink.” I replied quickly.
“What's you name?” he asked. I didn't reply and casually looked out the window across the balcony.
“I don't like asking twice for something little one, so why don't you tell me your name,”
“Daphne,” I replied looking at the door maybe I could make a run for it then I looked at the big
tattooed guy that was blocking my way.
“Daphne,” he said not looking entirely convinced.
I looked at him realising I couldn't hear his thoughts the same went for everyone else in the room.
They were all the same. Another guy appeared on the other side of me, I was definitely starting to
panic and a small part of me was wishing Micah would actually walk in and rescue me, I didn't care
how much trouble I would be in afterwards.
The guy on my right grabbed the top of my arm with an extremely tight grip I winced in pain at
first, then the guy on my left grabbed my other arm so I couldn't go anywhere. They started
searching my pockets I tried to move away but it was impossible with their grip on me. The one on
my right found my small purse I carried in my hoodie pocket, which had everything from drivers
licence to old library cards in it.
“Here you go Cole,” He handed it to the guy in front. Cole opened it and pulled out a few cards.
“Ruby Pearl Summers. Any relation to Seth Summers?” he asked.
Maybe if they knew Seth was my brother they would leave me alone, it was worth a shot.
“He's my brother.”
“Really. He kept that quiet or should I say he kept you quiet. So tell me Ruby how much like your
big brother are you? Are you gifted? We all know he has an ability and uses it to his advantage in
the ring personally I think a Neph with his skills shouldn't be allowed in there, it' doesn't make for a
fair fight. But I shouldn't complain I make a fair amount of money when your brother is in the ring.”
“I don't know what you are talking about,”
He stepped closer and pulled my hood down and searched my face he then grabbed my chin and
moved my face from side to side.
“Get off me,” I tried to kick him away but he jumped back quickly.
“She's very young and not completely changed I dare say this is actually her real birth date he said
looking at my driving licence again. He put the cards back in my purse and clicked it shut.
“So how about that drink after all you are amongst family,”
He winked and handed the purse back to me, the two guys let go of me and the one on my left
moved away and walked to the bar.
If I could make it to the door hopefully I would get lost in the crowd on the stairs and they wouldn't
be able to find me. I was about to make a run for it when I heard a new set of voices coming down
some steps on the far side I hadn't noticed before, one of the voices belonged to Mack. I looked at
Mack and frantically pulled my hood back up, Cole raised a questioning eyebrow at me then he
looked over at Mack.
I didn't think twice about it and made a run for it while I had my chance, I made it to the door in a
second, it was like I had super fast legs again. I didn't really know what was happening to my body
but as I hit the stairs and squeezed between people and ducked under arms I didn't care I was just
thankful I had got away so quick.
Now it was time to get out of here. I made it to the bottom of the stairs and swung around the wall,
Micah was walking towards me looking at his cell. I panicked and turned around, quickly moving
the other way and ended up in the front of the crowd which was probably the last place I wanted to
be, everyone was shouting and jumping around. I saw another exit between the stands and hurried
past everyone the best I could with out getting stood on or bumped, I was a lot shorter compared to
all these guys. I ran down the opening and round the corner where there was another bar, a group of
guys stood chatting and drinking, only one noticed me but he went straight back to his drink.
I hurried past them to another door which had an exit sign above it, there was a really tall blonde
haired guy standing under it but he let me through without saying a word.
I stepped through and onto the pavement. The door shut behind me. I let out a sigh of relief, them I
realised this wasn't the way I had come in, I ran along the side of the building and round the corner.
I saw Aimee chatting to Beck I was so glad to see her.
I raced over and grabbed her arm.
“You're back I didn't even notice,” She giggled looking at Beck.
“Come on we need to leave like now,”
“Like right now now,” she said.
“Yes right now, Micah's in there if he catches me he will probably never let me see the light of day
again.” I said pulling her away.
“Until we meet again Beck,” She blew him a kiss but he just frowned at her.
“I think I wore him down. I'll have him begging for my number next time.”
“Could you move a little faster,”
“I'm going as fast as I can. Now spill the beans what was that place and why wasn't I allowed in? I
personally think its because Beck had the hots for me and wanted to keep me outside,”
“It's just a stupid fight club,”
“Fight club. What with hot sweaty guys in skimpy clothes wrestling,”
“Something like that.”
“You so have to sneak me in next time.”
“No, we are not going anywhere near that place again, the people in there are crazy and dangerous.
You need to stay away from there.”
“But Beck was cute I want to see him again,”
“You say that about everyone, next week the guy that does the toothpaste ads will be cute.”
“So Heaven's Point has it's own underground fight club that's sounds so gangster. So were there a
lot of fit guys in there?”
“No. Mainly older men that are far too over weight eating tacos and drinking beer and I could
hardly see where I was going cause of all the smoke in the air.” I was lying about the older over
weight men but I definitely didn't want her going in there.
“Gross! That sounds nasty,”
“Yep I need a shower cause I stink of smoke.”
We hurried through the back alleys trying our best not to get lost but in the dark it all looked the
same.
We somehow managed to find our way back to the parking lot. I rushed round to the other side of
the car jumping up and down to keep warm waiting for her to unlock the doors. I looked over the
roof of the car at her wondering what was taking her so long. She looked panicked.
“What's wrong?” I asked already guessing what was wrong.
“Crap! Double crap,”
I rushed around to her side, she was already on the floor tipping her bag out.
“I might of lost the keys,”
“Where?”
“I think I dropped them in the popcorn stand I remember bending over to reach the popcorn and I
heard a jingly thud but then I got distracted by the cute guy behind the till and never checked what
the jingly thud was.”
“Are you telling me your keys are at the bottom of a popcorn bin,”
We both looked over at the rental shop, all the lights were off. I helped Aimee pick her stuff up and
we went over to the stores windows and peered in.
“Why is the shop shut already it's Friday night and its only 9.20,” she said angrily.
There was a sign on the door which I read out to her.
“Closing early tonight due to staff illness. Sorry for any inconvenience.”
“So you're telling me in the last thirty minutes both staff members fell ill and they had no one else
to call in to cover for them. It better be fatal that's all I can say.”
She leaned back against the glass and pulled out her cell and groaned.
“What now?” I asked looking over at her.
“My cells dead. What about yours?”
“I have no service, what a surprise,” I replied looking up from my cellphone.
“Okay plan B.” she walked back over to the car.
“What was plan A?” I asked.
“Our cellphones but they're no good, I sometimes wonder why anyone bothers with a cell in this
town. Stupid cellphone.”
“So what's plan B?” I asked.
“You know,” she said nodding at the car.
“Err, know what?” I asked wondering why she was looking at me strangely.
“You know.” She tilted her head towards the car.
“I really don't know. Why are you looking at me and winking. Aimee what are you doing?”
“Fine but I didn't really want to say it out loud,”
“Say what out loud?”
“You know, do that thing where you break into cars and hot wire them.”
“What!” I said shocked. “Why would you think I can do that?”
“Didn't you live in the city before you came here?”
“That doesn't mean I'm skilled in vandalism. Aimee, what kind of person do you think I am?”
“The breaking into cars kind, you have that look and you wear a hoodie,”
“Yes and that automatically makes me a car stealing criminal.”
“I'm sorry I'm just freaking out, I don't know what I'm saying, that was my plan B. But you're right I
was wrong to judge you. So lets just hope Mack wonders back this way, I'm sure he'll know how to
hot wire the car.”
I looked across the parking lot, the black mustang was still parked.
“Give me your cell,” she asked. I handed it over and she walked round the car holding it above her
head trying to get signal.
“Is it working?”
“No I'm not getting anything,”
“Maybe we could buzz one of those flat over there?” I asked, looking at the flats with the gratified
walls outside.
“Do you honestly want to buzz one of those flats,”
“No not really. How about if we ask at the convenience store if we can borrow their phone.” she
looked at me but didn't say anything.
“Fine do you have any ideas?”
“I doubt their going to let us borrow their phone the woman at the checkout was a right grumpy
cow. We'll just walk around for a bit to see if we get service but not too far encase Mack comes
back he might help us.”
“You mean he can probably hot wire the car for us, cause he's probably stolen a lot of cars in his
past,”
“Exactly, he's probably done it loads of times before. Now come along Daphne,” she said walking
off.
“And what was with those names? They weren't exactly believable,”
“When I was little my two favourite dolls were called Daisy and Daphne it was the first thing that
popped into my head.”
“Really that was the first thing that popped into your head, not the thought, what the hell am I doing
this is a terrible idea that didn't even cross your mind,”
“You hate me don't you?” she asked pouting.
“No I think we should have never followed Mack then we would have realised your keys were
missing before the rental store closed and we wouldn't be in this mess.”
We walked out of the parking lot and down the street, I was just thankful there were street lights
down the side. I was constantly looking over my shoulder though.
“Stop that your making me nervous.” She linked her arm into mine. “Oh wait,” She stopped holding
the cell still. “Damn I thought I had something then, maybe we need to be higher.”
She walked over to the other side of the street, it was dark and crowded by tall trees. She stood on
the bench holding the cell high up.
“Really that was your idea of higher. Is it working?”
“No, not yet. Wait, no it just went again.”
“Hello Ladies,” A deep voice called from across the street. I looked over to see a pair of older men
walking this way.
“Err Aimee, did you get service yet?”
“No.” she climbed down next to me.
“We should go back to the car,”
“Yeah good idea,” she said linking her arm with mine again. We ignored the two men and started
walking back.
“Hey where are you going?” one of the men shouted at us.
I peeked behind, they were now following us along the sidewalk.
“We should cross the street again and get under the street lights.”
Aimee nodded pulling her whistle out of her pocket.
“Just encase,” she whispered.
We were about to cross the street, when I heard loud footsteps right behind us. One of the men
pulled on the back of my hood to slow me down and the other one jumped in front of us. Aimee
started blowing her whistle.
