“About what?” I asked, almost barking it as a demand to tell me. I was still trying to sound annoyed.

“Angel…you are feisty aren’t you?” He laughed out loudly.

“How do you know who I am?” I asked.

“Everyone who’s anyone know who you are Angel.” He kept grinning.

“But I don’t know who you are.” I pointed out the obvious.

“Draven.” He smiled at me.

“Ok. Draven. Is that your real name?” I kind of laughed. Then asked again, “What do you want?” I stepped towards him. He just laughed at me.

“Are you really intrigued by me?” He had a very large grin on his face, ignoring my questions.

“What are you talking about?” I tried to look confused, but knew he was reading my thoughts.

“Well…you’re thinking it, are you not?” He raised an eyebrow smiling at me. I just stood there not knowing what to say. “Where do you think you got that whole vision, mind reading thing from? Not those dirty mongrels…” He choked out a laugh.

“Don’t call them that…” I raised my voice.

“Well, it’s true. That’s what they are, whether you like it or not.”

“You’re no different.”

“Neither are you I’m afraid. You can’t deny who you are.”

“I never have.”

“You’re cute.” He laughed, crossing his arms, “Back to this whole you being intrigued by me.” He smirked.

“I’d rather not.” I scowled.

“That’s alright. I can see it all in your mind.”

“What are you here for?” I pushed the question further, and tried to block my mind, and all thoughts, from him.

“I just wanted to finally meet you.”
“You’ve met me, now leave.” I started walking away from him, back towards the village, but before I knew it, he was right in front of me blocking me from going any further. “What are you doing?” I demanded.

“I’ll want to see you again.”

“No. You’re a Vampyre. You’re not even supposed to be on our land. How did you get over here?”

“Don’t worry about that, I have my ways.” He grinned again, “Weren’t you trained to kill a Vampyre?” He crossed his arms looking down at me.

“You’re no threat.” I said trying to walk by him. He grabbed my arm with his cold hand. I looked up at him, seeing him smiling down at me. “Please let go.”

“Tomorrow night, please? That’s all I ask. At the meadow.” He asked; my heart sank. I tried not to think about all the deaths as of late and how my mother was killed there at the meadow. I tried to not think that tomorrow may be my last day alive because someone with a great accent and gorgeous eyes lured me out to the meadow.

“No. Here, but down farther on the shore where no one can see.” I pointed.

“I’ll see you at midnight, tomorrow, then.”

“What if that’s past my bedtime?” I made an attempt to smile.

“If you’re as curious as I think you are, you’ll be there.”

“Fine. Midnight it is.” Of course I was curious as to why this Vampyre wanted to talk to me so badly.

“Robert.” He said as he started walking away from me.

“What?” I asked him confused.

“You asked my real name, did you not?” He turned his head ever so slightly so that I may see his grin. I blinked once and then he was gone.

There wasn’t any footprints to show he’d been there. Just mine and James. Was I imagining this Vampyre? Had I truly started to lose my mind? I guess I would see tomorrow night at midnight on the shore.

I didn’t sleep last night. With all of this on my mind circulating, and thought after thought wrapping a noose around my neck trying to distract me, it was just all so confusing. What the hell was going on?

I walked slowly that morning, to Rayna and Micah’s house. Rayna was sitting out on her tiny side porch, drinking a cup of coffee and messing around with her cell phone.

“Morning.” She smiled, and set the phone down.

“Hey.” I said, sitting down across from her, looking as miserable as I could.

“What’s up?” She asked sipping her coffee. It was flavored with Irish cream, I could smell it.

“I couldn’t sleep last night. So, of course, I’m miserable!”

“You are always miserable Angel.” She smiled at me.

I smiled back, “Yea, yea.”

“I’m glad we came back. We were thinking about it for the longest time, and that newspaper is what did it.”

“That’s all it took, a newspaper?” I asked. “But my messages to you through our minds just didn’t cut it…”

“Well, that’s what made us start thinking that we should come back.” Another sip of coffee.

“It hasn’t been the same here without you two. Just me and the six…oh man…” I pulled my legs up in the chair and sat cross legged.

“Well, there are plenty of others here to hang out with.” She laughed.

“You laugh, I’m not laughing. All the others hate me and you know that.” Now I gave a little nervous laugh.

“There loss. At least you have James.”

“I don’t know about that anymore.”

“Why’s that?” Final gulp of her coffee and she set it down.

I told her all about last nights conversation with him. “I just don’t want anything to happen to them.”

“I agree. I mean, we could use help, but we really don’t know what we’re up against, like you said, it would be hard to keep track of all of them out there.”

“They just don’t get it….”

“Don’t get what?” Micah walked out of the house only in a pair of jeans, with a cup of coffee in his hands.

“We’re talking about the Six going out with us in the woods.” Rayna said.

“Have you spoke to your father about this? He is the Chief and he should have a say in this as well.” Micah said.

“In two days the Elders and the council are coming, so we’ll see how it all goes then.”

“So this is a decision the Elders have to make?” He asked.

“Pretty much.” I said.

“It’s never been this way before.” Rayna said.

“Father says that this may have something to do with the Vampyres, so that is why the Elders and council are having a meeting.”

Rayna sighed. “This place has changed in the time we’ve been gone.” She reached over and grabbed Micah’s arm.

“Yea, it has.”

“Maybe for the better, or maybe for the worse.” I added.

“So what about a game plan? The council is going to want to know what we plan on doing.” Micah asked.

“Well, we’ll do what we always do. We’ll go out and scout, looking for whatever clues, and evidence, we can find and go from there.”

“And if we don’t find anything?” Rayna asked.

“Then we come back.”

“Hopefully the council will approve this…” Micah said, “We don’t want anymore of the humans to be dragged into all of this crap.”

“Agreed.” Rayna and I both said.

Bella Tragedia.

Present Time.

Midnight came all too quickly. I went through the day mostly sleeping and wandering around aimlessly. Tonight I crept through my bedroom window to head to the beach to meet this
Robert Draven
.

There were storm clouds rolling in tonight, the thunder could be heard in the distance and the flashes of lightning towards the west. The wind was picking up slightly, but it was still warm out, and the water was starting to warm up from the summer heat.

The tree’s started rustling behind me, and I knew it was him. I closed my eyes facing the water, seeing him in mind’s eye. When I opened my eyes finally he was standing next to me. I saw a smile on this face and his hair was blowing in the wind that was picking up. He smelled of the forest, and fresh water ponds. It was that musty smell that was alluring to one like me.

“Beautiful night.” He whispered, not looking in my direction.

“Sure.” I said simply. I continued to watch the waves as they came up and shaped themselves into wolves; like they were dancing on the water.

“So, should we get down to business?” He finally broke the silence after a few moments.

“I thought you said that you just wanted to see me.” I looked at him and then quickly looked away. He was too inviting.
Why am I thinking this way?

“I don’t want to see you,” He grinned, “I was sent to speak with you.”

“Robert Draven…” I sighed.

“Yes?” He laughed.

“Ok, so what do you want, or should I say, why were you sent to talk to me?” I asked sitting down in the sand. He stood silently in the same spot as before. I looked up seeing that he was looking up into the moon. It was slowly being covered by the storm clouds. I noticed his clothes while I was “checking him out.” Not typical Vampyre attire. He was wearing a tight black t-shirt, blue jeans and converse sneakers. Ok, look away Angel. Now. I heard a chuckle come from his throat. “Well?” I asked him again. He took a seat next to me. Almost touching. I was beginning to think that he was doing this all on purpose.

“Well, Angel…” He stopped talking.

“Are you at a loss for words…darn. Well, it was nice to see you again.” I started to get up, only sort of joking around. He grabbed my arm holding me still. He really needed to not touch me right now.

“Stay.” He smiled at me. I remained seated next to him looking up into his eyes, which were looking into mine as well. He still had a grip on my arm, and after he realized it, he let go. But slowly. “I know that this is the last thing you are going to want to hear.”

“Just say it.”

“You and your friends need to stay out of the forest. I know you’re planning on going out there.”

“And how do you know that?” My anger was stirring inside of me.

“Please.”

I quickly stood up looking down at him. He was playing with the sand he was sitting in. “Draven…? You really need to tell me what you’re talking about.” A loud crack of thunder came from over head.

“It was my job to watch over you the past few years.”

“Watch me? Define a few years…”

He shook his head as if he was confused. “Maybe a year, or a little more. It doesn’t matter. You’ve been kept safe the whole time I’ve been around.”

“I don’t need you or anyone else to keep me safe. I do fine on my own.” I raised my voice, getting angry.

“Shhh.” He stood up.

“I don’t want to shhhhh!” He stepped forward, quickly putting his hand over my mouth to shut me up.
Stop touching me
. “Now listen to me and stop talking. Can you do that?” He slowly took his hand off of my mouth.

“Ok, I’m listening, but I can’t promise that I won’t cut you off again.” I said.

“You never shut up do you?” He scowled at me.

“No, I don’t,” I said, “Ok, ‘watching me‘, why?”

“Let me explain.”

“Ok.” I sat back down in the spot that I was sitting at before and he did the same.

“Yes, I have been watching you. I was instructed, by our leader, to keep you out of danger. To put things in your head that would keep you out of the forest as much as I could and to keep you from leaving the village. I was told to watch you like a hawk. And no I had nothing to do with those killings last week in the forest.” He quickly responded to the thought in my head, “I know you will probably hate me in the end for all of this, but I had no choice. Where I come from, if you’re given an order, you do it. If you don’t, you die.” He sighed, poking the sand with a stick that he found laying near him. He didn’t want to look over at me. I sat there quietly looking at him, and waited for him to say more. “I’ve been alive a very very long time. I know the rules. I know how the games are played. I know about the feuds and how you came into this world. I was on the hunting crew to find your mother.” He looked over at me.

“But I wasn’t there when she was killed.” He looked away, “You have to understand something Angel, we’re not all bad. Us Vampyres I mean. I have always wanted to be a normal person from the day I was changed, but I had to embrace my new life. That is the one thing I can agree on with your pet dog James.” He gave a smirk, still not looking over at me. I think he was waiting for me to interrupt again.

“I was told to create a diversion that would force your other half breed friends away from here for a time. It was also me that had the newspaper sent to them to bring them back.”

It made sense now. What Rayna had said to me about the newspaper; the way it had just showed up there.

“Why?” My voice was small and confused.
Why?

“Our leader…” He sighed.

“Is my mother’s father.” I said, looking over at him.

“Yes.” He whispered, throwing the stick he was playing with at the water.

“Why? He spent all that time wanting me dead, and now, he wants you to protect me. That doesn’t make any sense.” My voice was still small but it got a little louder in the end.

“He never wanted you dead. That’s the part that everyone has gotten mixed up. He wanted to have that part of his daughter to be with him. He just killed everyone who got in his way when he was trying to find you. We all watched.”

“Because that’s not creepy…” I sighed. “It doesn’t make sense. Why have my mother killed if he wanted me alive?” I asked.

“I can’t explain that to you. The only one who can give you answers is Lazarus.”

“I’d rather go on not knowing the answers then have to talk to him.” I said.

“You may not have that pleasure.” He said in a sort of cryptic way.

I sighed. “You know I’m going to need some time to process all of this.” I took a few steps away from him. The thunder and lightning was getting closer now.

“I understand. In the mean time, please don’t go out there to the woods.”

“I’m going out there. End of discussion.”
