CHAPTER FOURTEEN

That night, Remy dreamed of wolves.
They were all around her—close enough to touch yet every time she reached for them, they faded back into shadows. Every so often a wolf might come close enough to her but its features were blurred and hazy, as if she stared at them through a thin veil.

In her dream, her own wolf was pulling at her.
Follow me… Come…
she said and Remy followed.

The shadowy wolves around her parted. Some bowed their heads in acknowledgement while other turned away, snapping their jaws silently. Around her, shadow trees sprouted around her until Remy found herself walking through a dreamy summer forest. The grass was soft like silk and tickled her feet as she walked. Tree branches feathered her as she walked through them.

You’re close now… Come on…
When had her wolf taken form? The great silver beast trotted happily forward and Remy broke into a run to chase it, knowing somehow that if she lost sight of it, she would be lost.

Her wolf moved faster and Remy found the gap widening between the two.
Keep up!
I can’t, she responded but the wolf would not slow. Other wolves were running beside her. Old and young, strong and weak.

Remy tried to shift but she couldn’t. The silver fur of her wolf was growing dimmer and dimmer in the distance. Shadows closed around her.

“No!” She cried out when the silver fur disappeared completely and she was plunged into darkness. A thousand pairs of glowing eyes stared at her.

And then she heard it. A familiar voice, ringing with power and calming her beating heart.
Remy?

It was Blake.

He walked through the shadows and at his side were their wolves. One black as night and the other like the slivered moon.

Unlike the wolves around them, Blake’s features were sharp and clear. He stretched out his hand and Remy took it in hers. Warmth flooded through her and she knew that she was safe.

Are… are we talking right now? Is this real?
Remy asked hesitantly as she pressed closely to him. The heat rose from his body as he took her in his arms.

It’s real enough. It’s as real as you need it to be.
Blake smiled and tilted Remy’s chin up.

Oh she missed him! Even the few short hours away had been torture. His touch woke Remy’s senses and she found herself crashing into him. Her lips pressed against his as she kissed him greedily, tasting him and throwing herself at him with reckless abandon. She was dimly aware that she was naked but she didn’t care as his hands roamed her body to explore every line and curve, as if he were checking to make sure that she was the same Remy as before.

The touch left her breathless and trembling and she deepened the kiss, longing for the tantalizing prospects his hands offered, and trembling as her own insatiable hunger surfaced.

Blake, I need to tell you something…
She started but he pulled her closer and the words were caught in her throat.

Later… You can tell me later.
His thumb traced a line across her cheek.
Don’t deny me this, Remy.

She won’t. She wanted it just as badly as he did. She licked her lips and drew closer. The kiss drowned her, flooded her with so many different emotions she didn’t know whether she wanted to laugh or cry.

He knelt down—hand never leaving her body and moving slowly down to her hips—and kissed his way down her neck, between her breasts, and towards her navel. When he reached the edge of her sex, he sniffed deeply and slowly kissed his way back up, leaving behind a trail of wetness that tingled along Remy's spine.

Vines and branches sprouted around them, forming a soft bed around them. Remy wrapped her arms around Blake’s head and slowly led him there. She pushed him into the chair and sat on his lap. His manhood was sandwiched between their bodies and throbbed with eagerness for her.

She could see the lust overtake him. Yet…

The familiar mixture of desire and restraint were mixed in his steely blue eyes. She would be lying if she didn’t want to open up to him, to lose herself in his intense eyes, and to indulge in the rising bulge between his legs.

A rich aroma rose all around them as wildflowers started blooming. Blake’s eyes were staring deep into Remy’s soul and she pushed herself forward ever so slightly to tease him with her own wetness.

His hands explored her again and he teased her nipples with equal fervor, urging her to match him stroke for stroke. She reached down to grasp the red head and found it glistening with desire.

But when he ran his hand along her back and took a tuft of her hair in his hands, she gasped at the strength of his touch and gasped at how easily she submitted.

“Oh…” she murmured as warm lips kissed under her chin and made their way down her breasts. And suddenly she felt it. That sweet suckling sensation that drew a moan from deep within her own core that left her tight and anxious.

His free hand was running along her thigh, massaging and squeezing the ample flesh as he slowly parted her. She tightened her grasp on the throbbing member in her fingers, she felt him tense up. The hand pulled her closer and suddenly the space between them became almost nonexistent.

His eyes were still trained on hers, daring her to push further, daring her to test him.

Slowly, she disentangled herself from him. Her body tingled raw from his touch, his kiss, his tongue. She breathed faster and faster. Her nipples stood up and she lowered herself to him and slowly pushed his legs apart.

The musky odor mixed with the flowery scents all around and Remy gave the tip a gentle lick, savoring the salty taste of the drop at the head. Blake gasped and clenched his jaw.

Mine.
Remy smiled deviously. But her wolf was his and she obeyed. Suddenly—no longer than a brief second—her wolf had taken over and she looked adoringly back up as she moved her head, rubbing the wet hot crown against her full lips.

When she regained control, her arms were running along his legs as she sucked him. Blake groaned and leaned back, his muscles visibly clenching in response to Remy's tongue and lips.

No hands, Remy.
He muttered just as she reached to support herself on his cock.

The way he said those words woke the wolf inside Remy again and the only thought in her mind was to please her Alpha.

Obedient, she put her arms behind her and moved faster, swallowing with each movement as he continued growing in her mouth. Moving to the side, she ran her mouth along the length of his shaft as her tongue toyed with his head.

She looked up and stared into his eyes. In that one moment, she saw his wolf behind those steely blue eyes.
He’s beautiful…
her wolf adored and Remy was lost.

His hand moved down her back and their fingers locked as Remy continued bobbing up and down. She grew wetter between her legs and desperately wanted to reach down to touch herself but he refused to let go. He licked his lips and Remy flushed red, knowing that she had been bested.

He picked her up by the waist and placed her gently on the bed, slowly opening her legs. Kisses dotted their way down between her legs but refused to touch her where she desired them the most. Lips and tongue brushed her thigh and edged close to her wet slit. But each time they came closer only to back further away.

The teasing made her even wetter and she stretched into him. Each time he came closer to, another gentle gush of wetness dripped from inside of her. Her heart was thundering inside of her chest and her wolf was going mad with lust.

He reached up and pinched her nipple, tweaking the puckered pink flesh gently as he finally kissed her wetness. She heard him swallow her juices and moaned.

When his tongue pressed against the swollen nub between her legs and he finally closed his lips around it, her world was set ablaze. His tongue! His lips! Everything! Blake was slow but thorough. His tongue flickered up and down her slit as his hands pushed her thighs apart.

Don't stop! Don't stop!
She breathed and closed her eyes as he buried himself completely between her legs. His tongue moved wildly against her, brushing past her lips.

The rush came—tingling at first but then stronger with each successive wave—and her legs would have snapped together were it not for his strong hands keeping them apart. She fell back on the table, her hands balling into fists as a moan escaped her lips.

She was lost.

Dammit, Remy…
His voice strained and she heard the need thick in his throat.
I can’t take it anymore. I can’t wait anymore.

Then don’t. Don’t wait, don’t stop. I’m yours…

… You’re mine…
he repeated. Silence descended and the world stilled around them. Then slowly, one sense after another returned. First was hearing—hearts thudding like a drum pounding between them. Then it was smell—musk and flowers and sweat and cum. Then came taste—salty and sweet. Then it was sight and Remy saw the beautiful smile on Blake’s lips and her heart melted.

Finally came touch and in one swift motion he was inside her again.

She clung to him for dear life and he picked her up in the air. For a moment she hung in the air—dizzy and breathless—as he let her impale herself upon him

The descent sent her trembling against him. Her back arched and she pressed closer to him. The unimaginable heat rushed like a drug spreading through her veins. He was moving faster and faster inside of her.

He groaned as he sucked on her neck. The heat inside her grew hotter and she clenched tightly as cries of pleasure came again and again. Blake Christensen reached somewhere deep within Remy and drew out every cry, every moan, until her throat was raw from repeating his name.

When at last she felt him tense inside her, she clutched his hard body and wrapped her legs tightly around him. Blistering warmth—sweet and wet—joined her own. Heat pulsed endlessly and sent Remy onto her final wave. Her breaths came out in ragged gasps as Blake continued to tremble and the two fell into their bed of shadow vines and branches, content in the reunion.

CHAPTER FIFTEEN

Remy woke with a start, her heart still pounding against her chest. Blake’s heat still lingered on her lips. If she turned to her side, Blake might be right there in bed next to her. But she knew she was alone and the realization made her feel empty inside.
Outside, snow was falling again. She spied a pair of Aaron’s hunters making their way through the white to a house and a pang of regret hit her.

Emma.

The she-wolf had submitted to Remy in the snow, submitted and vowed she would follow without question. Now she was a prisoner. Rubbing the sleep out of her eyes, Remy stepped out of her room and opened the door to her cabin.

And found Aaron Van Houten standing outside, waiting.

“Remy.” he croaked behind his thick jacket as snow piled on his shoulders. His eyes lowered and lingered for a moment on her breasts before he said. “Are you out of your mind? It’s cold outside.”

“I’m not bothered by it.” It was true. Since her first night with Blake, the cold no longer bothered Remy. Somehow she’d become immune to it all. Part of her inner wolf, probably.

“Are you sure?” Aaron unzipped his jacket and threw it over Remy’s shoulder. “What are you doing up at this hour?”

“I wanted to see Emma.”

“Who?” Then realization dawned and his face hardened. “The savage? Why?”

“She’s not a savage, Aaron.”

Aaron took her hand. “She hurt you.”

Remy opened her mouth to explain but stopped. Would Aaron even understand? Would anyone understand? Her parents had fussed about the cuts and scratches but when Remy offered them the explanation, they only stared at her like she was out of her mind. Aaron would be no different.

“Please, Aaron. It’s important for me.”

He wrestled with an answer and finally said. “I’m coming with you.”

Remy recoiled at that. She couldn’t have Aaron come with her, not for this. “No.”

“What do you mean?” He sounded hurt. “Remy, what happened that night? You disappeared and came back bloodied. You’re telling us that this savage hasn’t hurt you, and you’re… well, you’re distant, like your mind isn’t here or something. What’s going on?”

I found my mate.
She wanted to say.
I found my mate and I want to be with him. He’s strong and fast and a real Alpha, not pretending to be one.
But she knew Aaron wouldn’t want to hear that either. Instead, she turned away.

“Remy…” He cradled her face and searched her eyes. “What did they do to you?”

She looked away. “They didn’t do anything, Aaron. Please, I want to see Emma.”

“If they hurt you, or God forbid…” He licked his lips, searching for the word but was afraid of saying it. “Remy… Please, just tell me the truth. I’m going to be your mate soon and mates don’t keep secrets from each other.”

This time it was her wolf that flared up. She pushed Aaron away and stepped out into the snow. “I’m not your mate, Aaron!” Her voice bit sharp in the cold. “Not now, not ever! Never call me that again!”

The look on Aaron’s face would’ve broken Remy’s heart, if her heart was supposed to break for him. He reached for her but stopped before he touched her.

Finally, he asked. “What do you mean I’m not your mate?”

Now or never.
Her wolf told her. Remy took a deep breath. “My mate is Blake Christensen.”

Aaron’s face went through a multitude of different emotions. First was shock, then anger, then something in the middle that was mixed with disbelief. “No.” He shook his head. “No, it isn’t. You’re my mate, Remy. My father said so.”

“And what exactly did your father do to figure that out? Did he look through the list of unmated women left in the village and decide that it was going to be me? Or did he figure that since my family has been with the pack for the longest time, it made sense for the two of us to be mated?” Snow swirled around her and Remy felt her wolf’s strength filling her with newfound courage. In that moment she was an Alpha again and the feeling of power was intoxicating.

“It’s more than that, Remy. I’ve loved you for as long as I remember.”

“But I didn’t love you.” Remy explained. “Aaron…” She started. “A mate is someone whom you’ve seen in your dreams, someone whom you’ve felt like you’ve known your whole life, someone whom you feel a deep connection to. The other half of you that you can’t exist without. Not just… Not just a childhood crush that you’ve nursed for all these years.”

“But you are all those things to me, Remy.”

“You’re not those things to me, Aaron.”

Silence descended between them as snow continued to fall. Then, Aaron asked. “Did you fuck him?”

Remy bristled. “Who?”

“Christensen.” Aaron balled his hands into fists. “Did you fuck him?”

“You know the answer already, don’t you?”

“Was he everything you wanted? Did you see him in your dreams? Did you feel like you’ve known him your whole life?” Every word was as sharp as a dagger and his voice dripped with mocking acid. “Did you feel that deep connection with him? Is he that other half of you?”

“Yes.” Remy’s voice hardened.
If this is the only way you’ll accept this. If this is the only way I can be free…
“I’m sorry, Aaron. But you’ll know what I mean when you find—”

He shook his head and pursed his lips, eyes brimming with tears. “There’s no one else. It’s always been you, Remy.”

She looked away. “I’m not your mate, Aaron.” What would it take for him to understand that? For him to realize that no matter how much
he
might want it, it wasn’t what she wanted? Wasn’t it about time that the world cared about what Remy wanted?

But the look in his eyes told her that he would never understand and when he threw his head back and laughed, low and threatening, Remy knew that she lost him. Lost him forever to the bitter pill of rejection.

“Aaron…” She started back away from him. “You’re scaring me.”

“Am I?” He stepped closer and ripped the jacket from Remy’s shoulders so that she was naked in the snow. His other hand tightened around her shoulder, so hard that it started to hurt. “You’re mine, Remy. You’re mine and I’m yours. No one can take you away from me. No one.” His lips curled back to reveal his lengthening canines.

Those eyes that once looked at her with boyish doting burned with nothing but anger behind them. She knew what she needed to do—what she must do. Wrenching free from his grasp, she shifted and jumped into the snow. A snarl sounded behind her and she saw the blur of fur and teeth and claws that was once Aaron Van Houten. He went for her throat and she leaped out of the way in time into the snow.

He’s going to kill me… If he can’t have me, he’ll make sure no-one else can either…
Fangs slashed towards her and Remy Clearwater found herself paralyzed staring into gaping maws.
