Harrison was also taking a potshot at that band. Dave Dee, a former cop who'd announced his departure from the group a few months before, had been critical of Lennon's decision to return his MBE in protest of Vietnam. “Every time Lennon sees things go a little bit quiet for the Beatles these days, he seems to leap to the forefront and do something silly,” said Dee, who called the move “stupid.”

Six days later, Crosby accompanied Dylan to Princeton, where Dylan was given an honorary doctorate as he was “approaching the perilous age of thirty,” the citation read. “He said it was gonna happen and I said, ‘Can I come with you?' He said, ‘Sure, but I don't know if I wanna go and do that.' I said, ‘Let's go see.' It didn't turn out well at all because they wanted him to wear a cap and gown. He was extremely unimpressed with them all.”

Gordon played drums on Crosby, Stills & Nash's “Marrakesh Express.”
