Bodie smiled. “How is Theresa?”

“She’s Theresa,” Jay said. He winced. “I told her Sassy was grounded from using computers, just for that weekend. I hope that’s okay. She was grilling me about it.”

“That’s fine,” Bodie said. “Long as that’s all you told her.”

Jay fidgeted with the stem of his glass, avoiding Bodie’s eyes.

“Jay? That
is
all you told her, isn’t it?”

Jay slid his gaze to Bodie, looking bashful. “That’s not the only thing she grilled me about.”

Bodie frowned, then chuckled. “Oh. Did she, ah, ask you about me?”

Jay nodded. “I’m sorry. She kept at me, so I told her about...”

“Last night,” Bodie said.

Jay nodded. “Yeah. I’m sorry. My mom has a strange power over me. She batters me with questions until she breaks down my defenses, and she seems to always know what I’m thinking.”

Bodie would have normally been furious about someone revealing personal things regarding his intimate dealings, but the idea of Jay speaking with his mother about it didn’t bother him. In fact it felt kind of good. “I don’t mind,” Bodie said. “So what was her reaction?”

Jay laughed. “My mom thinks getting laid is what got me all positive. So basically, she thinks messing around with you directly resulted in my lawsuit being dropped. So congratulations. You’re a miracle worker.”

Bodie laughed hard. “Just think what I could do for you if we keep at it,” he said. “I just hope it doesn’t work the opposite way, and I bring all your positive thinking down with my badness.”

Jay’s eyebrows pinched as he took a sip of wine. “What
badness
?”

“You know. I’m not like you. You’re one of the good ones. Nice guy. Helping others. Visits his mother and all that.”

Jay laughed. “I’m not a choir boy, I assure you. What about your parents? Are you close?”

Bodie shook his head. “Only child. And not the one they wanted, if you catch my drift.”

“Oh,” Jay said.

“Was your mom always accepting of you?”

“Being gay?” Jay asked.

Bodie nodded.

“She has been for years now. But when I was a teenager and first told her, she kind of made it her own personal crisis, which pissed me off. Had my aunts over to the house comforting her and bringing cakes like someone had died.”

A laugh snorted out of Bodie. “I’m sorry,” he said. “Shouldn’t laugh at that.”

“Yes, you should,” Jay said. “It’s funny now, years later. My family was kind of freaked at first, but I don’t think they really think about it much anymore. It’s just me now. The gay one in the family. I still get roped into all the family functions, so I guess they still like me.”

“You’re lucky,” Bodie said. “
Everyone
seems to like you. I can’t believe the change in Sassy. You make people feel good. I have the opposite effect on people. I seem to make them want to throw shit at me.”

Bodie chuckled, but as he said the words, he realized it was true. His parents. His work colleagues. The men he’d known. Even Sassy when he’d first started working for Eben. His life had been met with hostility and contempt at every turn. Bodie did not inspire happiness in others.

“That’s not about you,” Jay said. “It’s about them.”

Bodie took a sip of his wine. “Not so sure. Maybe your mother’s on to something. Maybe I’m too dark at the core.”

“Are you blind?” Jay said.

Bodie blinked. “Not last I checked. I can see you all right. You look great, by the way.”

Jay held his eyes, smiling. “As do you. But seriously, Bodie. My
job
is to make people feel good about themselves. Of course they’re gonna like me. But you’re not
bad
, just the opposite. You’re like...guardian of the realm. In your old job you were keeping people safe from attack. And now here you are, protecting a princess in a castle.”

Bodie’s head fell forward as he laughed. “Oh, God.
Guardian of the realm
.” He lifted his head and grinned at Jay. “Only problem is, I’m not sure who’s holding who hostage over there. The princess is locked in the tower, but she’s the one with power over the king and queen.”

Jay stood and moved over to Bodie. He ran fingers along Bodie’s beard stubble, then climbed onto his lap, straddling him. Bodie sighed and wrapped his arms around Jay’s waist.

“It doesn’t matter who’s in control over there,” Jay said, resting his forehead against Bodie’s. “You’re the one making sure all-out war doesn’t break out. You’re the protector.”

Bodie stroked fingers up and down Jay’s back, biting back the words that almost left his lips.
Then why do I only feel safe when I’m with you lately?
And why was he starting to feel weak and vulnerable when he wasn’t? Rather than admit any of this, he grasped Jay’s face and kissed him.

Jay responded with a hunger that surprised Bodie, hugging him tight to his chest, devouring his mouth with urgency, moaning as he slid his hips forward. Bodie tightened his grip on Jay’s waist and his groin lifted as he kissed him back with equal fervor, relishing the taste of his tongue. Shit, it had been a mere twenty-four hours since they last kissed, but Bodie had already missed this.

Even though he’d wanted it, he’d been stunned when Jay kissed him on the porch the night before. He’d been working up the nerve to do it himself, but never expected Jay to make the first move. He’d pushed Jay back at first, not because he didn’t want it, but to look into his eyes, afraid he’d see pity there after telling him about the bullying he’d suffered. But all he’d seen was desire.

They kissed deeply in the chair like they’d never stop. But Bodie wanted more. He wanted to get closer, deeper. He broke the kiss, panting. “You didn’t happen to buy condoms today,” he said.

Jay smiled. “I did, actually.”

Digging his fingers into Jay’s ass, Bodie pulled him against his groin. “I want to get inside you so fucking bad.”

Jay inhaled sharply, his eyelids fluttering. “You said I could go exploring the next time we were together.” He leaned back and trailed the line of one of Bodie’s tattoos with his finger. “Let me be in control this time.”

“Will it end with me fucking you?”

Jay chuckled and his hand came up and stroked Bodie’s head, pulling his hair tie out. “I hope so.”

“Then you can do whatever you want to me.”

Jay shuffled back off the chair and stood. “I’m gonna run to the bathroom. When I come out, please be naked on my bed.”

Bodie stood and slid his arms around Jay’s waist. “Well. Since you said please.” He kissed him again and Jay groaned into it. Bodie wanted to be in Jay’s bed badly, but once again he was having that problem where he couldn’t let go of him, the kiss going on and on.

It was finally Jay who pulled back. “Jesus, Bodie. Keep that up and this’ll be done before it’s started.”

Bodie reached down and caught a handful of Jay’s crotch over his jeans, making him hiss. “Then you better hurry back from the bathroom.”

Jay smiled as he pushed Bodie’s chest. “Stop touching me so I can move.”

Bodie reluctantly released him.

“Jesus,” Jay said again more softly, then moved off, disappearing down the hall.

Bodie grinned as he walked to the bedroom. Sex had always been about getting off for him, but now all he wanted to do was drive Jay crazy. He’d let Jay do his exploring, but couldn’t wait to watch his face while he moved inside him, to bring him over the edge.

He turned on the bedside lamp, then quickly stripped out of his clothes. Pulling the blanket down to the foot of the bed, he stretched himself out on the sheet.

When Jay returned from the bathroom, he stopped short, staring at Bodie. Silently, he moved to the edge of the bed, setting a condom and tube of lubricant down on the table. His eyes drifted over Bodie as that gorgeous flush bloomed in his cheeks. Still silent, Jay peeled his own tee shirt off and tossed it aside on the floor.

Bodie stared up at the other man, thinking he looked like a dream standing there, shirtless in his jeans, so hot with that total blond sexiness. But the dream got better once Jay removed the jeans, and climbed naked onto the bed.

Jay crawled across the mattress, swinging a leg over so he straddled Bodie’s thighs. His head bowed as he trailed palms over Bodie’s chest, looking wanton and seductive with his blond hair falling over his eyes. Bodie’s lips parted, but he didn’t speak. He wanted to tell Jay how good he looked, but Jay’s silence along with the expression of awe in his eyes was such a turn on, Bodie didn’t want to interrupt it. Bodie’s cock filled and thickened with each gentle stroke of Jay’s palms across his body.

Shuffling back, Jay caressed down Bodie’s stomach, gliding over his hips. His touch paused there as he stared down at Bodie’s cock, but then his palms drifted upward again, crossing his chest, then down over both his arms, that same awestruck expression on his face. No one had ever made Bodie feel so desired, so worshipped, and it was driving him mad.

“One of these days,” Jay said, fingers gently trailing the bend at Bodie’s arms, “you’ll have to tell me what all these tattoos mean.”

Bodie shivered, tiny frissons of ecstasy pulsing as Jay’s fingers made delicate circles on the tender flesh at the bend of his arm. “I think you’ll be disappointed. Most of them I just liked the design,” Bodie said. “Nothing in life’s ever meant that much to me.”

Jay’s touch stopped, his eyes flicking to Bodie’s face. He seemed about to say something, but thought better of it, and instead shifted back on his knees, running his hands over Bodie’s upper thighs. Jay shuffled back farther, then lowered himself onto his belly between Bodie’s legs. He gripped the sides of Bodie’s ass.

Bodie’s back arched when Jay’s head came down, face nuzzling into his hip. Reaching down, he stroked Jay’s head, running fingers through his hair. He didn’t thrust up or try to lead Jay’s mouth to his cock, even though he was aching for it. He simply stroked his hair, letting Jay decide what he wanted.

Jay’s hot breath drifted over Bodie’s cock as he moved to the other hip, pressing his face in, nuzzling. Jay wasn’t even using his lips or tongue, but it was driving Bodie crazy, the press of his face, the tickle of his nose as he inhaled Bodie’s scent.

Without warning, Jay’s warm, wet tongue licked up the side of Bodie’s shaft, and Bodie let out a short grunt. “Perfect,” Jay muttered against Bodie’s cock, then trailed a line to the head with his tongue.

Bodie let go of Jay’s hair and brought his hands to his own eyes, balling them into fists as he fought to maintain control. Jay hadn’t even taken him in his mouth yet, but he felt ready to spill. All those little touches and strokes to his body, so gentle and innocuous, had built his arousal up to a teetering height. Jay tongued him in short flickers around his dome. Bodie’s teeth clenched and he dropped his arms to his sides, gripping the sheet.

When Jay finally sheathed Bodie’s cock with his mouth, surrounding him with a warm, wet suction, the blast of pleasure made Bodie grab Jay’s head and pull him back. “Enough,” he said.

Jay looked up at him, eyes clouded with lust. “Not enough for me. I was just getting started.”

Bodie sat up and grabbed Jay, dragging him upward and wrestling him onto his back. “There’s no way you’re making me come yet,” Bodie whispered, pinning Jay’s arms over his head.

Jay gasped, then grinned. “Control issues,” he whispered.

Bodie released his arms and reached over, grabbing the condom and lube from the nightstand. “I’ll show you how much control I have,” he said, and rose to his knees, positioning himself between Jay’s thighs. “I promise you’ll lose it before I do.”

“Challenge accepted,” Jay said, eyes glazing over as he watched Bodie tear open the condom and roll it onto himself.

The simple act of coating his cock with lube had Bodie’s heart pounding. He had to pace himself so he wouldn’t blow it, but at the same time couldn’t wait another second to get inside Jay. He tossed the lube aside and lowered himself down onto his elbow, sucking Jay’s lower lip as he glided his dome against his hole. “Do you want me?” he whispered against Jay’s lips.

Jay’s chest rose and fell with each breath. Gripping Bodie’s face, he pulled him down and slid his tongue in his mouth, tilting his hips up, which forced the head of Bodie’s cock into him.

Bodie hissed and broke the kiss as he breached Jay’s entrance.

“Yeah,” Jay said, reaching down and grabbing Bodie’s ass. He pulled him in deeper, wrapping his legs around Bodie’s knees. “I want you.”

Through the haze of pleasure, Bodie laughed, nearly scolding Jay for taking control again. But actions spoke louder than words, so he opted to show him instead. Hiking Jay’s right leg up to his hip, he slid into him. Jay felt even better than he’d imagined, the clench of tight, hot muscle around his cock making him throb, so he paused there, not moving.

“What’s the matter?” Jay said with a sly smile. “Losing control?”

Bodie slid out and pressed back in. “Not even a little,” he lied.

Jay’s brows pinched together, eyes closing. His stomach quivered beneath Bodie. “I love that thing you do with my leg,” Jay said, and opened his eyes. “Fuck me just like this.”

Bodie began to move, very slowly. It was more of a struggle than he’d anticipated to keep his control, especially watching Jay’s eyes as he moved in and out of him. Hiking Jay’s leg higher, he pressed down on him and captured his mouth. Jay groaned into the kiss, his ass lifting higher so Bodie got a better angle—and Jay could no longer control the movement. Jay didn’t seem to mind, soft whimpers sounding in his throat with each long stroke Bodie made in and out of him. Jay loosened around his cock, and Bodie could have thrust harder but didn’t, keeping the rhythm languid.

Jay broke their lip lock with a gasp of air. “I didn’t expect you to be so gentle.”

Bodie licked his lips as he moved against him. “Do you want me to be less gentle?”

“No,” Jay said. “Perfect...this is perfect. I want it to last.”

Jay’s cock lifted and hit Bodie’s lower belly as it hardened beneath him, proving he was enjoying it as much as he claimed.

I want it to last.

Bodie did too. In the past he’d always wanted sex over quickly, but not this time. He wanted to stay inside Jay as long as possible. “Still good?” he asked softly as he kept the rhythm of movement. “Is it good, Jay?”
