“Please
call me when you get home.”

Sadly she smiled and closed her eyes.
“Okay. Talk to you in a few then. Bye Stefan.” She didn’t wait to him tell her good bye she just pressed the end button, and started to drive.

She didn’t go home. S
he just didn’t want to be alone. She pulled in a driveway and smiled up at the house. It was white with scarlet red trimming. It was the house she’d grown up in, and hadn’t been to in almost two years. After her mother passed away she didn’t want to go there, so her father came to her house for holidays. But for some reason she didn’t want to be alone and she felt a pull to go there.

She noticed that the kitchen light was still on, and slowly she got out of the car. She walked up the sidewalk and grimaced at the
broken walkway. She’d always remembered her childhood home in the perfect condition it was in when she’d left at eighteen. Now it looked like it needed a huge extreme make-over. In the past two years, the house had fallen apart and she had tried to talk her father in selling it, but he wouldn’t.

She gla
nced at her key ring, found the pink key and opened the door. She knew her father was still awake, because he didn’t sleep all the much since her mother had died. She walked in and found him watching the TV, he looked at her and smiled.

“Hey sweetie, are you okay?”

She smiled at her father and went over to him. “Yes dad, I just wanted to see you.” Normally he would come and see her and once in a while he would stay over at her house.

Her father was a tall man
, standing at just over six feet tall, and he was still fairly handsome with sandy blonde hair and light blue eyes. “Well it’s nice to see you, I’ve missed you.”

Her heart nearly broke with the sadness
she heard in his voice. “Oh dad.” She wrapped her arms around him.

Chapter Six

Gretchen woke up the next morning in her old bedroom. Her phone was beeping, telling her that she had a new message. She had plugged it in next to her old twin bed so it would be easier for her to get to it. She looked at the text message and smiled. Stefan had been texting her all morning. She scrolled up to see the first one he left.

Are you home yet? You said you would text me when you got home.

Crap she had forgotten to text him.

You can come over if you want. Call me and I’ll give you my address.

Now she was
feeling bad, but last night she and her father had talked for a long time about things that needed to be talked about. She’d told him that it was time for him to sell the house. She looked at the last text message that was sent a few minutes ago.

Gretchen if you don’t text me or call me back
, I will come over. I need to know if you are okay.

Texting would take too long so she called him.

He picked up after one ring. “So you
are
alive.”

She sat up and bit her lip, he sounded pissed off. “I am sorry I
didn’t text you back, I’m at my dad’s and we had to talk about some things.”

She heard him sigh, and she smiled. “But you’re okay
, right?”

“Yes.” She decided that she wouldn’t ask to see him again
, that he would have to ask and they sat there as silence filled the phone from both ends.

“Can I see you tonight?”

She smiled because he wanted to see her. She wanted to do a happy dance. “Sure I’ll be home at seven.” She had to meet with Laura at eight the next morning to finalize her divorce. “But I have a meeting in the morning.”

Stefan didn’t say anything for what seemed like forever. “Fine
. I’ll see you a little after seven.” He hung up without saying ‘good bye’ and she frowned.

She liked like the crabby Stefan. Slowly she got out of bed and walked to t
he bathroom. She hated that the house had only had one bathroom growing up. It sucked, but now it didn’t matter to her.

After her shower
, she did her hair and makeup and headed downstairs. She found her father drinking coffee at the kitchen table. He looked up at her and smiled, it made her heart break.

“Hey dad, want me to cook you something?”
She walked to the refrigerator and frowned. It was almost empty with just a carton of milk. It was the final crack in her heart. She knew she would be going in to work late because she would go to the store to make sure he was stocked up. She vowed that she would check on her father more.

After making sure her father had enough food to last him for a few weeks
, she went in to work. She was stacking books and didn’t look up when she heard the door open. “I’ll be with you in a minute,” she yelled as she put away another book.

“I have always liked your ass.”

She stiffened when she heard his voice. Slowly she turned around to look at her soon to be ex-husband.

“Hello beautiful,” h
e said and winked at her.

“Robert what are you doing here?”

H
e stepped closer to her, and she backed up until her back hit the book shelf. He smiled mischievously at her, and it made her body go cold. She could tell that he had been drinking, and she knew how he could get when he was drunk. “Can’t I see my wife if I want?”

She put her hands in her pocket and hoped she pressed call because her last call was to Stefan. Even if he just heard what her ex had to say it would help her tomorrow. “I’m not your wife anymore, so you don’t have that right.”

He moved closer so he was less than a foot away. “We are still married until I sign the fucking papers.” Now she could smell the strong smell of whiskey. “Maybe I will take you one last time before then as a good bye fuck.”

Her heart raced as she remembered the last time he
’d done this to her. She’d tried to block it out of her head, but it always came back to haunt her. “You’re drunk and you need to leave.” She wondered what Stefan was thinking or if he was still on the phone listening.

He grinned at her, and she reached behind her to grab a book
, just in case he didn’t leave. “I will get you back.” And with that he was gone, and she slid to the floor. She reached in her pocket to see if she was still connected with Stefan and she was.

Slowly she brought her phone to her ear. “Hey,” she said.

“What the hell is going on? Do you need me to come over there?” he sounded pissed off, and she wondered why.

“Hmm…no
. I think I’m fine now. I just wanted someone to hear it if he threatened me.”

“He has threaten
ed you before?” he asked, his voice deeper than before.

She didn’t want to tell him what
had happened before, he would think she was weak and she didn’t want that. “I don’t want to talk about that. I just feel better knowing you were listening.”

He mumbled something
she didn’t understand as she started to stand up, and then he said, “Fine, but we will be talking later.” He hung up again.

S
he sighed knowing she would never tell him what truly happened with Robert. Laura didn’t even know. She pulled herself together as her boss, Mark, walked in, he was an older man in his late sixty’s with is salt and pepper hair. He had caring green eyes that seemed to see right through her.

“Are you okay
, Gretchen?” he asked, his eyebrows arched.

She just nodded and excused herself to the bathroom. After work she went straight home knowing that Stefan would be there and asking questions. Sure enough he was waiting for her outside her door
, still in his dark police uniform. It made him look sexy and she wanted to rip it off of him. But when he looked up at her, he looked pissed off.

“Good evening
, Office Romano.” She smiled at him and he just lifted one eyebrow at her. Sighing she placed her keys in the door to unlock it and walked in leaving the door open for him. She walked into her kitchen and grabbed a beer for herself and started to drink it as she watched him watching her.

“I did a search on you and Robert Elliott and I found nothing. So would you like to tell me what happened in the past that made you want to call me to listen
to what he had to say today?” He crossed his arms across his perfectly sculpted chest.

She just stared at him as she took another drink from her beer bottle. She knew he would want to know
, but thought he wouldn’t ask right away. “It doesn’t matter. It’s in the past and I don’t need to bring it up.”

He glared at her and she didn’t give in. “Fine
, but I don’t like knowing he has hurt you in some way and you don’t trust me enough to tell me.”

She wouldn’t say she didn’t trust him, but she didn’t want him to think that she was weak and not worthy of him.
She sat her beer on the kitchen table and walked to him, he was leaning against the wall. She reached up and took his face in her hands. “Stefan it’s not that I don’t trust you, but I’m ashamed. We are getting to know each other, maybe in time I will tell you everything that has happened in my life, but right now I want to take it slow.”

He arched his dark eyebrows at her. “I thought you wa
nted to be just fuck buddies?” He wrapped an arm around her back and pulled her closer to him.

“I do, I’m not saying I want to be your girlfriend or anything.”
She hadn’t had anytime to be herself.

He smiled down at her. “I understand and I will take you anyway I can get you.”

She stared at his lips as he slowly lowered them down to hers. She moved her fingers to his hair to tangle and to bring his mouth closer to hers.

“You are so fucking beautiful, do you know that?”

Now she looked up at him and he was staring into her eyes. “And you are a sweet talker.”

He grinned at her, and rubbed the tip of his nose against hers. “Sometimes I am, but right now I’m not. I’m only telling the truth, you take my breath away.”
She felt her face heat up with his words. “Look at me.” She did, and she knew she was a goner for him. She thought she was going to see anger when she did, but she didn’t. He smiled at her. “I will leave this alone for now as long as you promise me you’re fine.”

“I am.” She bit her bottom lip as she stared into his stunning hazel green
eyes. When she thought about spending the night with him, she didn’t want to talk about her soon to be ex-husband, she wanted his mouth and wicked tongue to work his magic on her. She had to admit that he looked amazing in his police uniform. She slowly moved her hands to his chest. “Can we be done talking? I want you and I don’t want to wait any longer.” She beamed up at him and she watched a smile tug at the corner of his full lips.

“What did
you have in mind?”

“You and me
naked…on my kitchen table.”

He shook his he
ad and laughed. She took that moment to start unbuttoning his shirt, and she kept her eyes on his. At the last button she ran her hands back up his hard abdomen to his astonishing chest, and then to his shoulders to remove his police shirt. He stood in her kitchen wearing a white tank top, his black pants, his holster that held his gun, radio, nightstick and his handcuffs. As her eyes landed on the cuffs, she remembered she wanted to try out those in her bed with her bedpost. “Oh my, Officer Romano, I do like you in your uniform.” She never would have thought she’d have a thing for men in uniform, but after seeing him in his, she had it bad.

“I will do my best to remember that.” He reached around to his back to un
fasten his belt and he gently set it on the ground next to his shirt. He lifted her as if she weighed nothing, it made her giggle. “I believe I heard something about the kitchen table?”

She nodded and brought her lips to his rough jaw, it made him groan.
He sat her on the table with him between her legs. She wrapped her legs around his back to pull him closer to her. His warm sweet peppermint lips hovered above her, and she wanted his kiss more than ever. Arching her back she received what she aimed for, her lips brushed against his. She wrapped her arms around his neck and tangled her fingers in his lush dark hair. His hands pressed on her lower back and she could feel his hard ready cock through his pants.

She tore her lips away from his, and smiled when she heard his breathing matched hers, rough. “
Stefan, we are wearing too much clothing. I want you now.”

He chuckled, and s
he grinned. “I can fix that,” he said as his large hands ran down to the hem of her dress and lifted it off painfully slow.

She didn’t take her time removing his
tank top, she wanted to touch his body and she knew he loved it when she did. Her fingers went to unbutton his black pants and he groaned. Before she got his pants off, he took out a condom, and handed it to her.

“I want you to put it on me.”

She nibbled on her bottom lip as she opened the condom. She looked down at his hard cock as she gently slid it onto him. He moaned as she cupped his balls and lightly massaged them. He took her hand off of him and pushed her back on the table, she knew that the height of the table would be perfect for him to fuck her on. She’d already thought about it yesterday morning.
