Offhandedly, I let my gaze roam round the room, and it wasn’t long before I found myself locking gazes with a young man, whose drink was giving off, some kind of vapor. I refused to be put off by the pretentious drink and threw him my best smile. When he began to walk over, a well of satisfaction, surged through my body. Ivy, must have been watching me, because the next thing I knew, I was on the dance floor, and Ivy, was giggling.
“Hey girl, you can do better than that poser.”
Another glance round the room, proved to be a disappointment. None of the men here, were a patch on Nick, with his wavy caramel brown hair, golden, tanned skin and a body, which I could spend all day ogling, and tasting. Only to begin with again.
“Ellie, I believed we were coming here to forget about the men, of Comfort Springs.”
“We are. Come along, let’s get further into the middle of the dance floor and show these lot how to move.”
As Ivy and I worked our way to the center, Rayven and Baby Blu joined us. With a waddling Cassie trailing behind. A couple of dances later, Cassie was making her excuses, as she waddled over to a table, which had come empty.
“Do you think she’ll be okay?”
“Sure, but I’ll go back and join her, I could do with a glass of water.”
It wasn’t long after Baby Blu had rejoined Cassie, when we attracted the company of three men, who were a vast improvement from the one, I had been eying up earlier. As the music became more hypnotic, the men interwove themselves into our group, separating us from each other. A quick peep over the shoulder of the beefcake I was dancing with, had me catching a glimpse of Ivy, as she tongue danced with her partner. Rayven was lost in the music, her hips swaying, while her arms were flung in the air. Her head flung back as she laughed. There was at least, a good foot gap between her and her partner.
My partner spun me round, and curved his lower body and front, against my back. His hips thrust suggestively against my butt. Yet the feel of him rubbing against me, was leaving me cold. Determined, not to let my lack of response to the closeness of his body spoil my night, I purposely pushed my body against his. This reminded me of my time with Adam.
I could not believe it. Nick fucking Fudge Winchester, seems to have ruined me for other men. Just as I was about to join Cassie and Baby Blu, someone tapped me on my shoulder. Frustrated and disappointed at the interruption, I released a sigh. As I turned my head towards my right shoulder, I found myself locking gazes with the eyes of a cat. Glacial, amber eyes stared at me. The mouth pinched, as he wrapped his arms around my waist, and pulled me out of the grip of the stranger. A quick search of the dance floor and I found Ivy, in the arms of Fraggle.
“Sundance. What the fuck are you doing?”
“Saving myself from getting a beating from Fudge. Fuck Ellie, you were a little too close to that dickhead’s body.”
“We were dancing.”
“If you need someone to dance with, dance with me.”
Cats eyes, turned into puppy eyes as he gazed down at me. A wounded look plastered on his face.
“Come on Ellie. Do it for me. Would you really want my beat up body, on your conscious?”
The wounded look, and pleading note in Sundance’s voice, has me laughing as I begin to wiggle my body against his. Further peals of laughter escaped, when Sundance placed a very large gap between our bodies.
“Okay, Sundance I take it that Nick sent you, but what’s with Ivy?”
“Dec’s got a mean punch and Fraggle doesn’t want his nose broken… Hey Ellie are you okay? You’ve gone kind a pale.”
“No, I’m not okay. You lot need to get over your double standards. If Ivy wants to get laid, it’s got nothing to do with either the club or Dec.”
Annoyed at both the attitude and the arrogance of the men of Devil’s Comfort, I stormed out of the club, reaching for my cell as the door slammed behind me. Nick answered on the second ring.
“Who the fuck do you think you are?”
“Hey, what the fuck have I done?”
“What the fuck have you done? … You’ve sent your fucking Hench men down here. I swear Nick, if you were here, right now. I’d hit you with an iron bar.”
In the empty alley, all I could hear, was my heavy breathing and the clicking of my heels, as I paced on the sidewalk. My anger, mounting with each passing moment.
“You’ve got to trust me Nick. I’m not one of your fucking, skanky whores.”
“I know that… El...”
“Shut up Nick. You and Dec, sent two of your men to spoil our fun. Don’t you trust me?”
The more I thought of why he had sent Sundance, and Fraggle, the more questions I came up with.
“Is that what you’re doing? Did I interrupt your fucking?”
“Ellie…”
“And how the hell did you find us?”
“It’s my fault. Tabby asked which night club we had gone to, and I told him.”
Rayven’s firm voice has me spinning round to the small woman. In the low street lightening, it was hard to tell if she was remorseful or not. Hell, she had nothing to hide. It wasn’t her fault that her old man was a conniving, sweet talking bastard. Who was probably acting on Dec’s or Nick’s orders.
“Ellie… Ellie... Ellie”
Nick’s voice carried down the cell and I replaced it against my ear.
“Look, Nick, I’ll call you back later.”
“Ellie. Don’t you hang up?”
“Why not.”
“Because we know who’s behind the break-ins and Sundance and Fraggle are there because we have to finish the run.”
For a moment I simply stare at the phone. I could not understand, why Sundance and Fraggle are in New Orleans, just because of whoever is behind the burglaries, and what that has to do with us. Pissed at both the MC and Nick for spoiling what should have been a girl’s weekend away, I hang up on the biker, and turn towards the rest of the party.
“I guess we might as well head back to the hotel.”
“Ellie.”
“Yeah.”
“I spoke to Inferno and I’m not happy either. But he’s worried that something might happen to one of us. Especially Cassie.”
“Who’s behind the burglaries Baby Blu?”
“They think its Tats and a few of his men.”
Cassie is seven months pregnant, and it had been a hard fought pregnancy. A pregnancy which has taken a lot of years to happen. Despite my anger at Nick not fading, I could understand the club’s concern. The ringing of my cell, draws my attention to the caller id and when I see that it is Nick, I drop the phone back into my bag, and join the girls in the taxi. The hotel may only be a few blocks away, Sundance, however, had been adamant, that we used a taxi for our return journey.
“Damn it, I don’t think I’m ever going to get laid again.”
“Shit, Ivy where did that come from?”
Rayven’s snigger, has us all turning in her direction, drawing us away from Cassie’s question.
“Shut up Rayven. Dec’s your brother in law and you need to get him under control.”
Ivy’s desolate tone and slouched posture could be felt in the cab.
“Ivy, give Dec one night and I’m sure he’ll get over himself.”
“Rayven are you suggesting I should sleep with that controlling freak.”
“No Ivy. I’m suggesting you screw his brains out. That way you get laid, and can move on.”
Rayven’s words had a way of silencing the cab, each one of us deep in our own thoughts. Yeah at this moment, I hated Devil’s Comfort and the men who belonged to it. It was well known that each time Ivy made plans to get away, that somehow either Dec or one of his bros would turn up at wherever Ivy was, and intimidate her date. I guess, I had been lucky that Nick never behaved in that way. There again, he never had to worry. All he had to do was turn up late and knock on my door and I’d let him in. Shit, had I really been such a pushover for him.

Before leaving New Orleans there were a couple of things I needed to do. It was surprising how easy it was to find the cemetery where Nick’s parents were buried. What came as a surprise, was that they were buried at opposite positions of the cemetery. A headstone had not been put in place yet for his father, at the moment there was just a plain cross with his name on it.
“What did you do to him?”
I did not waste much time at this grave, where a pitiful man lay buried. Instead, I made my way to the other grave and put flowers of her namesake into the empty vase. The headstone was simple

It was a lonely, sad headstone. Simple, yet it spoke volumes for all that was missing from it. It was time for Nick to stop running and hiding.
“I’ll take care of him.”
Chapter 6
Crap. It was frustrating, being on the opposite side of Louisiana, to Ellie. After attempting to contact Ellie for the third time, the phone still remained unanswered. I pocketed my cell and went back out to the party at Bear’s. As I grabbed a JB from the bar, I went to join my brothers at the fire.
“Hi Fudge. Wanna dance?”
As a biker, and a member of Devil’s Comfort, women’s company has never been hard for me to come by. And normally I did not turn one down. Fuck, in the last eighteen months of sharing Ellie’s bed, I had carried on fucking the biker bunnies that hung around the club. The whore who was standing in front of me, had had, her fair share of men and she belonged to no man.
“Why do you do it Bunny?”
“Do what?”
“Fuck all the men.”
“I’m a free spirit Fudge. Besides if a man can fuck who he wants, when he wants, why can’t I?
Bunny, may have asked me to dance, yet her hands were undoing, the Devil’s Comfort insignia buckle of my belt and sliding into the band of my denims. The expert fingers, easily finding their target.
“Is that what you’re doing? Did I interrupt your fucking?”
Ellie’s words were carried by the breeze, to whisper against my ears, and with a guilty jump, I leapt away from Bunny’s ministrations. Quickly I removed her hands from my denims. When I had been on the cell with Ellie, and although she was angry with me. My cock had begun to stir against the coarse cloth. The moment Bunny had touched me, it had deflated. Gone as limp as a soggy dishcloth. A first for me.
“Maybe later babe.”
Bunny was not put out by my rejection. As she moved into the crowd of dancers, it was not long, before she latched on to another biker. Her tongue down his throat. Inferno, Linc and Tabby were all sat by the fire. All three of them had settled down with the woman of their choice. They may not give them peace, but they certainly made them happy. A quick search of the compound and I found Dec, talking to Bear, by the Hogs.
“Everything okay?”
Not too far, lay an abandoned crate, which I pulled close to the fire to use as a seat.
“Ellie’s pissed.”
“Yeah, so is Rayven and Baby Blu.”
“Linc?”
Linc raised his hands into the air and shrugged as he flashed his teeth at everyone.
“Hey, what can I say? Cassie was tired and thankful for the interruption.”
Weak smiles were passed round, as we remembered why Sundance and Fraggle had been sent to the girls. A few months back, we thought we had disposed of Black County Steward’s, but it now appears that we had not. That they had simply gone into hiding. Now they were terrorizing Comfort Springs. Their main target, the elderly.
“What are we going to do?”
Dec has now joined us, a beer bottle in his hand, as he kicked over another crate to sit on.
“When we get back to Comfort Springs, I’ll recall everyone who’s on the road and hold church.”
All the time Inferno is talking, his gaze is on Trax, who has two of Bear’s girls, wrapped in his arms, and is heading towards the back of the club house. Even though the Cage was safely locked and secure in the compound, Quick Draw was in the cab, whilst two of Bear’s men, stood beside it, idly smoking their cigarettes’.
“How safe do you think the return trip will be?”
As Sargent at Arms, it was Dec’s responsibility to keep trouble at bay. If there was any sign, he would then send Twiggy to investigate. As Road Manager, it was my job to check out the safest route we could use.
“We should be fine. Although the informant, refused to tell Sundance where Tats is, we know he isn’t in, New Lyons at the moment.”
“I’ve already sent a party ahead with a dummy cage. If there’s any problems. We’ll know about it.”
Inferno nodded his head. His eyes squinting in to the fire.
“Thanks Bear. I’m hitting the sack and I suggest you all do the same, it’s going to be an early start in the morning.
Tabby may be right about the early start. Which was due to the long journey, which lay ahead of us, and would take most of the day to accomplish. Yet it appeared, I was not the only one who was not in a hurry to hit the hay. Dec remained on his crate, his gaze flitting round the compound.
