It's only been three days, that's not really long enough to fall in love, they hardly know each other, I'm sure after they spend some more time together Chad will realize he's all wrong for him and be ready to move on, I can't believe this is happening, I should have fucking gone to Fusions Wednesday night, what the hell was I thinking, all of this work was for nothing . . .
“But I'm sure Chad will bring him out of his room. He'll want to show him off.” Roger sighed. “I know I would.”
“You'll meet someone, Roger,” I replied absently, pulling myself together again. I couldn't hide in Roger's room all night, and I wasn't going to flee the party. So, Chad had a boyfriend? It was a temporary complication, that was all, and I just had to be patient. I stood up and patted his shoulder. “Thanks for the joint, but I've got serious cotton mouth now. I'm going to get a beer, maybe dance for a while.” I smiled at him. “Promise me you won't just stay in here all night.”
“I'll see.” He shrugged. “If you want to smoke some more, just knock.”
“Roger.” I put my hands on my hips. “You've got to stop hiding in your room. Promise me you're going to come out to the party. You're never going to meet someone sitting here all alone. The perfect guy for you could be out there right now wondering where his perfect guy is—and you're trapped in here.”
“That's really sweet of you—”
“I'm serious.” I tapped my foot. “If we're going to be friends, Roger, you're going to have to listen to me.”
He nodded. “Okay, you're right. I'll be out there in a bit.” He looked down at his clothes. “I might want to change.”
“If I have to I'll drag you out by the hair,” I teased. I put my hand on the doorknob. “Got it?”
He smiled. “Thanks, Jordy, for caring. And you really do look amazing.”
I closed the door behind me and ran to the bathroom. I turned on the cold water spigot and splashed water on my face, trying to get my breathing under control. I looked at myself in the mirror. “It wasn't all for nothing,” I told myself. “This won't last, and I'll be right there to pick up the pieces when they break up, and Chad will see I'm the right one for him.”
I felt a little better about the situation. I just had to be patient. It wouldn't last—Roger was right about that.
I smiled at myself. Of course it would happen.
After all, I was the right guy for Chad.
This guy, whoever he was, was just a momentary distraction.
I walked back to the party. The deejay was playing “Evacuate the Dancefloor” by Cascada, and I started dancing in place while I poured myself another beer from the keg.
“You're a good dancer,” a guy said when I passed the tap over.
“Thanks.” I smiled at him, thinking to myself,
Wow!
He was short, maybe five foot six, but he had to weigh at least 190 pounds. He was wearing a faded pair of jeans that gripped his huge legs and a yellow, short-sleeved pullover stretched tight over a massive set of pecs. His waist was small, and he was cute with short, curly dark hair, blue eyes, a smattering of freckles across his snub nose, and an endearing smile. “Are you one of the new brothers?” he asked as he filled his cup. “I was studying in London last semester.”
“You're Mike Van Zale!” I smiled, holding out my free hand to shake his. At the same time my heart sank a little. He was one of Jeff's little brothers and unfortunately was straight. He'd been dating the same girl since he was a sophomore in high school, and she was a sister at Delta Gamma. “I've heard a lot about you. Blair and Jeff are my next-door neighbors. I'm—”
“Jordy Valentine.” Despite his small frame, his hand was bigger than mine. “Jeff's told me a lot about you, too.” He smiled, and I noticed one of his front teeth was chipped a little bit. “I'm glad we've finally met.” He gestured around the room with his beer cup. “So, are you enjoying being a Beta Kappa?”
“Yeah.” I took a big gulp from my beer. “It's great. I love it here. Smartest thing I've ever done in my life.”
“You're supposed to be really smart, right?”
“I guess.” I shrugged. “I made the dean's list last semester.”
He winked at me. “Well, I might need help with one of my classes this semester.” He rolled his eyes. “I fucking hate economics.”
“Oh, well, it's really not that hard, it just takes a basic understanding—”
He held up his hand. “It's a party—we can talk about econ some other time, okay? But would you be willing to help me, if I need it? I really struggled with macro, and I'm really worried about micro.”
“I'd be glad to.” I grinned back at him. “Just get my number from Jeff and we can set something up.”
“Great.” He winked again and headed out to the dance floor.
I watched him go, cursing at myself.
He wasn't flirting with you, dumb-ass, he's straight. He was just being nice because he wants you to help him study. But Christ, what a waste of an amazingly hot guy! I hope his girlfriend appreciates what she has in him.
I decided to go outside and get some air. As I walked to the door to the backyard, I saw them coming toward me. They were holding hands, and Chad hadn't noticed me yet. All of his attention was squarely on the guy he was with, and my heart sank even further when I got a good look at him.
I can't compete with that.
He was taller than Chad, which meant he had to be around six foot four at the least, and he had to weigh about 240 pounds. Chad had a great body, but this guy dwarfed him. His biceps were about the size of my head. He had bluish black hair; big, round brown eyes; and perfectly white, even teeth. His skin was olive, and his eyelashes looked dewy. He was built like a football player, and there was no excess fat anywhere. He looked like he could bend steel bars in his powerful hands. I tried to duck back out of sight before they saw me but was too slow.
“Jordy!” Chad's entire face lit up with a smile. He and his impossibly perfect boyfriend walked toward me, and I plastered a phony smile on my face.
I wanted to be anywhere else in the world at that moment—preferably a monastery high in the Himalayas.
“Hi, Chad.” I tried to make my voice sound light and jaunty. “How are you?”
“Great!” His eyes flicked up and down my body. “I really like that shirt. This is Dante Bertucci.” He smiled. “My boyfriend.”
“Jordy, hi.” Dante's voice was deep and his smile was genuine. “I've heard a lot about you.”
“Don't believe a word.” I smiled back in spite of myself. His grin was infectious. He grabbed my hand in one of his huge ones and pumped my arm.
“Oh, it was all good,” he said, smiling at Chad. “Chad couldn't say enough nice things about you.”
I'll just bet,
I thought, still smiling.
“Will you two wait for me here?” Dante said. “I've really got to use the bathroom.”
We said we would, and I watched him walk away. His tight jeans looked great on his big, hard ass.
“Isn't he
gorgeous?”
Chad whispered.
“Where did you meet him?” I somehow managed to keep my voice light.
“At Fusions on Wednesday,” Chad replied.
Thanks for calling me.
“I've never seen him there before,” I observed.
“Oh, he broke up with his long-term boyfriend a couple of months ago, so he hasn't been out in years. I was just fortunate to be there the night he finally decided to get out of the house again.” Chad lightly punched me on the shoulder. “If I hadn't been there, some other queen would have snapped him up like that.” He snapped his fingers. “Can you believe my luck?”
Obviously there's no justice in the universe
was what I wanted to say, but instead I just nodded.
“He's an architect,” Chad went on. “You should see his house—he designed it himself. It's
gorgeous.

He kept talking, but I wasn't listening. The high from the pot I'd smoked and the slight buzz from the beers I'd drunk were both gone.
He hadn't even noticed that I looked different.
I might as well have been part of the furniture for all he cared.
I was stupid to think I could turn myself into someone Chad would want—he wants guys like Dante, and there's no way I can measure up or compete with guys like that.
All of my hard work had been for nothing.
Dante came walking back toward us. The music had switched again to the Black Eyed Peas' “I Gotta Feeling.”
“I love this song. Let's dance!”
“Okay.” Chad turned to me. “I'll see you later, okay?”
“Don't be silly.” Dante smiled at me. “Come dance with us, Jordy. I'm looking forward to getting to know you.”
Chad gave me a look I completely ignored. “Okay!” I smiled back at Dante and followed the two of them out onto the dance floor.
We danced through that song and stayed out there through the next three. At some point, both of them removed their shirts. Dante tried to get me to take mine off, but I refused. There was no way I was going to stand next to the two of them and have my pitiful body compared to their godlike ones.
It was during the fourth song, “My Life Would Suck Without You,” that I couldn't take it anymore. They started singing to each other, and put their arms around each other and kissed. I escaped, doubting they would even notice. I grabbed another beer and wandered away down the dark hall of the dorm. It was taking everything I had to not cry.
A door opened to my right. “Hey, Jordy!”
I turned. “Oh, hi, Mike.”
“Are you okay?” He peered at me in the dim light.
“Fine,” I replied, turning a bit so he couldn't see my face.
He laughed bitterly. “I'm not.”
“What's wrong?”
“My stupid girlfriend dumped me.” He wiped at his eyes. “We've been together five years, and tonight she decides to tell me she's not in love with me anymore.”
“I'm so sorry.”
To my horror he started crying. Not knowing what else to do, I put my arms around him and hugged him. His arms went around me and he pulled me in close. He put his head down on my chest and sobbed.
“Maybe we should get out of the hall,” I said. “I mean, you don't want anyone to see you like this, do you?”
“Good point.” He pulled me into his room and shut the door.
He had a single room, with a double bed pushed up against one wall. There was a desk on the opposite wall, and there was a poster of Pamela Anderson in her
Baywatch
bathing suit taped to the wall over the desk. The curtains were closed, and I could hear “Fergalicious” coming from the Great Room.
I sat down on the bed.
“Can I ask you something?” He sat down on the bed next to me, almost uncomfortably close.
I nodded. “Sure.”
“Can I kiss you?”
“What?” I stared at him. “Mike, you're straight.”
“I know it's weird, but I really need someone.” He put his hand on my leg. “I like guys, I just like girls better.” He sighed. “But right now I need to be with someone, okay, and I don't want to be with another girl.” He slammed his other fist down on the bed. “I don't know if I want to be with a girl ever again.”
He's vulnerable, Jordy, and a little drunk. You don't want to do this. He's going to regret this in the morning, and you're only doing this because of Chad and Dante.
But he's awfully hot.
I kissed him.
Our arms went around each other. We fell backward onto the bed, and he rolled over on top of me. My legs wrapped around his waist, and his tongue entered my mouth. Our crotches ground together, and I could feel he had a huge cock inside his jeans. I pulled his shirt up over his head. His chest was amazing. The pecs were perfectly formed and huge, and he had large pink nipples. I kissed one, and then the other. His body shuddered, and he started grinding his crotch into mine again. I put my hands on his big, thick arms. They were hard, no give to them at all. He pulled my shirt up and off, lowering himself back on top of me. He started kissing my neck while I fumbled with his jeans, finally undoing the button fly and pushing them down. He wasn't wearing underwear, and smiled at me as he got off me and kicked his pants off. He undid my pants, pulling them off and throwing them aside. I smiled at him as he pulled my underwear off—
—and put his mouth on my cock.
