There was silence on the other end of the door and Jasmine’s heart felt like it was sinking as she regretted having lost her cool like she did and bringing the truth out to Peter in that manner. She began to realize that she may have messed up by doing the one thing that she was taught a long time ago not to do, just by watching and learning from her mom and dad’s relationship—making her man feel as if he was not man enough. This thought made Jasmine begin to tear up as she kneeled down to the floor and leaned against the door waiting for Peter to either respond or come out of the bathroom.
“Peter, baby—are you alright in there?”
“Jasmine, just give me a moment please. Just getting cleaned up, if that’s alright with you.”
Jasmine lifted herself up off of her floor and sat back on the bed wiping away her tears. Shortly afterwards, Peter emerged from out of the bathroom fully dressed in jeans and a t-shirt looking at Jasmine as if a conversation had not just taken place minutes ago. Jasmine wasn’t sure what to make of this but she needed to make sure everything was good between them again.
“Baby, I thought we were going to lounge around for a bit this morning. Here you are all dressed—please tell me you aren’t about to leave, are you?” Jasmine asked as she hopped off of the edge of the bed and walked up to him.
“Well, I know you’re tired and I figured I’d head home a little earlier today and start preparing for the work week,” Peter responded without any sign on his face about what he was feeling about Jasmine’s revelations.
“Baby wait, will you stop for a minute and listen to me? Please come over here and sit down for a minute,” Jasmine said as she grabbed Peter’s hand, leading him to the love seat in the corner of her bedroom.
She let Peter sit down first and then sat on top of him, straddling him so she was facing him directly face-to-face.
“I feel like shit the way that I expressed myself here to you. Yes, we should communicate honestly with one another, but I should have communicated this in a much better manner. I didn’t mean to make you feel like you aren’t satisfying me because that’s not what I was saying. Do you understand that, baby?”
“Yeah, I hear ya. And although it may give me a little satisfaction that you feel like shit right now, please don’t beat yourself up about this. Yeah, my male ego kind of took a little bruising but I’m ok, really. I also admit that this may have prompted me to get up and get dressed, but really I do need to go take care of some things. OK?”
“OK. Well, since we’re not doing brunch what about us doing dinner after you’ve taken care of your business and after I’ve gotten some more sleep and got my place cleaned up some? Can we do that?” Jasmine asked, not wanting to change their routine—although that was the one thing she thought she wanted to change about them.
Peter leaned in to kiss Jasmine on the neck before responding, “Yes, baby, that sounds like a plan. I was going to fix our breakfast so I guess that makes me in charge of dinner, huh?”
“Since you offered!” Jasmine said before kissing him on the lips and laughing with him. “I love you, Peter, baby.”
“I love you back.”

About a couple of weeks later, it was Jasmine’s birthday and she had been counting down the days for it. Not only because Peter had something special planned for her, but it was going to be their first chance at getting in some quality time since the turn of events at her place that early Sunday morning.
Although she still talked to Peter regularly, he was suddenly too busy to physically get together. He claimed he had a project to complete the next couple of weekends leading up to her birthday. Jasmine even tried stopping by one weeknight when she knew Peter would be home probably getting ready for bed, but in her attempts to get something started he claimed he was tired and would make it up to her soon.
Jasmine felt that maybe he was trying to punish her in his own way and ration out the loving.
Then again, what if Peter is feeling insecure and I’m the reason for that,
Jasmine asked herself.
Being turned away, or rejected as she thought of it, made Jasmine sad and she began to worry that she had in fact messed up this relationship. She decided not to bring it up, though, and just figured she would be patient until her birthday weekend came and see what he had in store. He had seemed very excited about the time they were going to have together celebrating her special day, and Peter made it very clear that he wanted her to keep the weekend clear so she could be prepared for anything, so Jasmine was excited.
Jasmine had already made plans to take the day off from work at the museum that Friday. She decided that she would awake to have breakfast with her parents, spend the day at the spa with some girlfriends, and then do some shopping at the local boutiques until it was time for Peter to leave work and meet up with him.
He told Jasmine to pack an overnight bag and meet him at the expensive, grand hotel where she always wanted to stay. That was the one part of the evening that Peter did share with her when he got off the phone the previous night after calling Jasmine at midnight to be the first to wish her a happy birthday.
“Babe, are you serious?” Jasmine asked in the high-pitched voice that Peter was used to hearing when she got excited.
“Yes, baby, and that’s the only thing I’m telling you. I remember you telling me months ago how you’ve lived here all of your life and never once stayed there. Now you get your chance to do it with me, if that’s ok with you?” Peter asked.
“Yes! Thank you baby,”
“Anything for you. So meet me there with your overnight bag right at 5:00 PM—do not be late!”
Those were her instructions and Jasmine was going to make sure she stuck to them. After a having wonderful day already with family and friends, Jasmine rushed to the hotel where she, for the first time in her life, chose to partake in the valet parking. It was her day and she was going to take advantage of all the perks that came along with celebrating her special day.
As soon as she walked into the lobby looking around for Peter, he was standing at the front desk looking quite dapper in his black suit with gray tie and pocket-square with his sexy, sparkling smile that made Jasmine want to jump his bones right then and there in the lobby.
He reached for her bag as she leaned in to kiss him on his lips while taking in a whiff of the cologne she so loved him to wear. Jasmine was dressed in a nice, flirty summer dress that showed her curves, but she felt underdressed standing next to her man.
“Baby, I didn’t bring anything fancy to match what you’re wearing right now. I may need to go back home…or maybe one of these shops here might have something?” Jasmine said as followed Peter to the elevator
“Oh, don’t you worry about that. I’m sure there will be something to your liking upstairs in our room,” Peter said as he held the elevator door open for her and then pushed the button before turning to give her a sneaky smile.
“Oh, ok!” Jasmine responded as she simply smiled while on the inside she could hardly contain the butterflies and excitement she was feeling from being catered to.
“So, have you been enjoying your birthday so far?” Peter asked as the elevator stopped to their floor and the door opened, allowing them to step off in to the long hallway of the hotel. Peter went back to leading the way to the suite that he had gotten for him and Jasmine for the evening.
“Yes, I have. I feel like such a queen—everyone has really gone out their way for me today,” Jasmine said.
“Good, because my queen deserves nothing but the best.”
As if on cue, Peter unlocked the door and opened it, and Jasmine walked through with her jaw dropped as she saw the extravagant room. The main living space was filled with balloons and flowers in one corner, a big gift basket with a bottle of her favorite wine and favorite chocolates on the dining area counter, and wrapped boxes with a card on one of the couches. Jasmine was speechless as she looked around the fabulous surroundings filled with things that Peter had gotten just for her.
“Where do I begin? What should I be doing first?” Jasmine said with a huge smile on her face, as if she was a kid in a candy store.
“Why don’t we start over here first with these gifts,” Peter lead Jasmine to the couch. “Open the larger box first, please.”
Jasmine opened and silently read the card that was attached to the box. She smiled upon reading further instructions to open the box for a lovely surprise. Inside the box was a sexy, silver evening gown that perfectly complemented Peter’s attire for the evening.
“Peter, I love it,” Jasmine said as she leaned over to kiss and hug him. “Should I go put it on now?”
“Yes, please do, but after you open this first.” Peter handed Jasmine a smaller box that she excitedly took and opened to find a pair of matching heels.
Jasmine looked in awe at the attire Peter had chosen for her this evening. “Babe, you did good.”
“Well I can’t take full credit for all of this. Your mom assisted with the shoes.”
“What?”
Jasmine asked in shock, not so much because he had help—not even a gay man would have known how well this outfit went together—but at the thought that he had reached out to his mother like that. Jasmine had no idea they’d ever met without her around!
“Yeah, after your breakfast this morning, your mom met me and helped me out a little. Apparently, she did good in keeping our secret,” Peter smiled, looking at Jasmine and getting a kick out of her reactions to the surprises so far.
“Yes, she did—I had no clue about any of this. Oh my God…well, let me go get dressed.”
“Yes, please do. We have a reservation in about 45 minutes so that gives you time to get even sexier. As a matter of fact, baby, meet me back down in the lobby right at 5:55, ok? I’ll be down there waiting for you. And please, do not open any of your other gifts!” Peter instructed.
“I promise, baby. I love you so much,” Jasmine said as she extended her arms up around Peter’s neck, giving him a passionate kiss before dashing off into the suite’s lavish bedroom with attached bathroom.
Jasmine was so excited about what was to come next that she got showered and dressed in record time. After reapplying her makeup and the perfume that she knew Peter loved on her, she threw on her new heels and headed out the door.
She made it to the lobby right on time with Peter looking suave and sexy waiting for her. As soon as she reached his side, he grabbed her hand and led her to one of the restaurants inside of the spacious hotel. It had been a restaurant that Jasmine had read many reviews about and was eager to try for the perfect date night or special occasion—she was finally getting her chance as they entered right on time for their reservation.
The next hour-and-a-half, she and Peter caught up and talked like they had not done in quite some time. Usually their weekends and meetings during the week allowed them time to really catch up and share whatever thoughts and happenings they had going on, but since Peter had been missing in action they didn’t really get that time to do so.
Jasmine couldn’t help but bring the subject up at dinner.
“Peter, you really had me worried. I kind of felt like you were punishing me the past couple of weeks by not making yourself available, and then turning me away when I came by for some late night loving,” Jasmine said with a smirk, trying to lighten the mood. She was serious, though, about what she expressed.
“I figured you would feel that way, and to be honest, in a way I was trying to punish you—just a tiny bit,” Peter admitted. “But in that time I really was working. I actually put myself into my work to kind of get my mind off of things, but I did a bit of soul searching and had to admit that what you said was true. I can see how I started taking you for granted and I just needed to figure out a way to make it up to you and make sure it doesn’t happen again, that’s all.”
“Babe, you don’t have to make up anything to me. Let’s just continue to move forward,” Jasmine said as she reached across the table for Peter’s hand.
Their dinner was delicious, and afterward Peter took Jasmine for a tour around the rest of the hotel, which housed more restaurants, bars and lounges, boutiques, and even a spa. It took them about another hour-and-a-half to get back to their room after stopping off in one of the lounges for a little bit of dancing to one of the live bands.
Jasmine was truly enjoying herself and was on cloud nine considering how concerned she had been just days before about the future of her relationship with Peter. If the date had even ended right then and there, Jasmine would have went home a happy woman but Peter had much more in store for her.
As they entered the room, both slightly buzzed off the cocktails they had in the lounge, Peter gently guided Jasmine toward the balcony of their suite where they could get an awesome view of downtown and beyond. Although it was now almost dark, the bright lights lighting up the tall buildings and the nearby bridges made a spectacular view and background for their romantic evening.
Peter opened the sliding door, allowing Jasmine to step out first to take in the view. The weather was just right—warm but with a light, comfortable breeze. Peter took off his jacket while Jasmine continued to hold on to the railing, admiring the view of the city and the sights below them.
She was so enthralled in the moment that it took her by surprise when Peter stepped closely behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist.
“I didn’t mean to scare you, baby,” he said as he lightly brushed his lips on her neck, taking in the scent of her.
He was getting turned on, which was obvious to Jasmine as she felt him rising up against her backside.
“That’s ok, baby, I was just into the moment. I am just so thankful right now—I can’t believe you did all of this for me,” Jasmine said as she turned around to face Peter giving him another hug. “You just don’t know how bad I want you right now out here on this balcony.”
“Well, why don’t we do something about that?”
Peter unbuttoned his shirt, taking it off to rest on one of the chairs that fit on the spacious balcony.
