HERBS AND SUPPLEMENTS

Pau d’arco tea for its antifungal and anti-inflammatory effects.

Take probiotics, especially if there is a fungal overgrowth. These help to balance the gut bacteria and support the immune system.

Take vitamin C. Canker sores can indicate a vitamin C deficiency.

Take L-lysine before meals. This is an amino acid that is often deficient in those with canker sores and ulcers.

EXTRA TIPS

Consult your dentist if dental problems or oral hygiene may be contributing.

Use tea tree oil mouthwash—add three drops of tea tree oil to a small glass of water.

Apply tea tree oil directly to the sores.

CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME

Carpal tunnel syndrome is characterized by numbness, weakness, and pain along with burning or tingling in the fingers and wrists that may be worse at night. Flexion of the wrist may worsen symptoms. The pain may radiate up to the arm and shoulder.

CAUSES

Carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by compression of the nerves between the ligaments and carpal bone in the wrist. Repetitive and strenuous activities may trigger the syndrome. Injury or trauma to the wrist can sometimes be the cause. Nutrient deficiencies are also part of the picture, in particular vitamin B
6
and omega-3 fats. People taking antidepressants or oral contraceptives are at increased risk as these medications increase the requirements for vitamin B
6
.

Other linked conditions include arthritis, tendonitis, menopause, Raynaud’s, hypothyroidism, diabetes, and water retention, so these may need to be addressed as well.

Action plan

The aim is to reduce potential fluid retention in the body, which when high contributes to pain.

EAT/DRINK

Foods rich in vitamin B
6
