Sprinkle lecithin granules onto meals twice a day. Lecithin is a component of bile that helps to emulsify fats and thus makes them more usable for the body.

EXTRA TIP

Eat small meals and snacks and avoid large meals, as these can put a strain on the liver and digestive system.

GLANDULAR FEVER

Glandular fever is a viral infection caused by the Epstein-Barr virus. It affects the blood, glands, lymph nodes, spleen, and especially liver. Fever, sore throat, swollen glands, debilitating fatigue, and muscle aches are symptoms.

Action plan

You must get lots of rest and also focus on strengthening the blood, liver function, and immunity. This will be the key to a successful recovery. It is common to have problems with candidiasis after contracting glandular fever (see page
219
). You may not feel like eating much, but nourishment is essential.

EAT/DRINK

Veggie juices and soups for easy digestion.

Fruits and smoothies for your immune system.

Tofu, seeds, peaches, strawberries, leeks, onions, quinoa, sprouted broccoli seeds, adzuki beans, parsley, dandelion, chicory, and cruciferous veggies including cabbage, kale, and brussels sprouts.

AVOID

Sugar, alcohol, soft drinks with additives, and overly processed foods.

HERBS AND SUPPLEMENTS

Mix the superfood blue-green algae into smoothies.

Drink aloe vera juice before meals.

The herb milk thistle is an absolute must, along with the herbal plant astragalus.

Vitamin C requirements are superhigh during a gland infection.

Pau d’arco tea can help to clear the dampness from the body that comes with this illness.
