Gina looked from her precarious situation to the tray of objects sitting next to her. Then letting her eyes land on Patti’s pleased face, she realized the reason for the dismissal of the men. Smiling herself, she nodded to the nurse and said, “Well played, Nurse Patti. I’ll have to remember to have you over when those two get too much for me.”
Both Patti and Doc Anderson chuckled. As the older gentleman moved around to situate himself between Gina’s legs, he let his hand drag along Nurse Patti’s lower back before he took his seat on the stool. A long sigh escaped the woman’s lips, which wasn’t missed by the other two occupants of the room.
Gina watched the man maneuver around, inching closer to conduct the examination. His eyes slyly would glance up to look at his nurse as she handed him instruments. They landed on either her face or her ample breasts hidden beneath her scrubs, though they would move quickly away if the woman looked down at him.
Finding this interaction between the two interesting, Gina decided to play matchmaker, even though the moment was a bit awkward.
“You know, Nurse Patti, those burgundy scrubs sure look good on you. The color really goes with your coloring, doesn’t it, Doctor Anderson?” Gina asked slyly.
Patti blushed, nearly matching up with the color of the material she wore. Doc Anderson looked up at her, hunger in his eyes as his vision traveled from her legs up past all her curves to her face. With a breathy response, he smiled at the woman. “Yes. It does wonders for her. And they fit her body just right.”

Patti gasped as Doc realized what he had said, hoping he wouldn’t be sent to Human Resources, but he couldn’t help himself, especially after staying silent for so long about desiring her. As his soft eyes met hers, she smiled shyly at the man she had secretly been longing for the several months since her arrival.
In automation, Patti handed him one of the shiny instruments. As he reached out to accept the offering, his large hand covered her smaller one, holding onto to it a few moments longer than necessary before she looked down at her feet.
Gina watched all this in amusement, knowing these two would be together soon, just like her and her men would be living happily ever after soon. Laying her head back on the pillow, she suffered through the examination Doctor Anderson was putting her through with as much dignity a woman could hold in such a predicament.
When the exam was over, Patti rearranged the bed and made Gina comfortable. As she worked, she spoke softly. “When the kind doctor told us you needed the exam and would do it while you were here with us, we booked you into the maternity ward. This way, whoever is calling to find out how you are, if they come here looking for you, they won’t find you in a regular room.”
“Yes,” Doc Anderson chimed in as he stepped back to her bedside after washing his hands again. He stood next to Patti, his arm brushing hers. “We don’t want any more harm coming to you, and we all know our women have had enough problems in the past several months.”
Patti looked up at the wise doctor in curiosity at his words. She had heard some stories about kidnappings, shootings, and something about a hooker turned FBI agent. Apparently they were true, and now there was this incident with Gina. Apparently escaping the rat race of Boston wasn’t as relaxing as it was supposed to be. But at least she possibly found someone to love her, or at least she hoped.
Feeling the masculine arm wrap around her shoulders, she leaned into the man’s body, savoring his warmth and the hard body he hid under his clothes. Silently, she let out a sigh after she breathed in his aroma of soap and spicy cologne. Caught by Gina’s gaze, she smiled mischievously.
“I’ll explain it later to you, dear,” he said, glancing down into her eyes. “Now, let’s let those men of hers in so we don’t have them breaking down the door.”

In the corridor, Connor and Jared were pacing back and forth. They would set off in opposite directions and then as they came back, meet up with each other, then turn and start the process again. Nurses coming and going eyed them both up and down as they passed, whether it was to go do a job they were assigned to or just to get a good glimpse of the male eye candy.
“I just don’t understand it!” Jared said on one turn. “We crossed the line, but it wasn’t enough to have us banned from the room.”
“I can’t believe that nurse pushed us out! Us! The sheriff and his deputy!” Connor spouted.
The door unlocked and opened quickly. Both men stopped, turned, and glared at the woman standing in the doorway looking quite pleased with herself.
“You may now come in,” she said as if they didn’t look mad. “She is done with her exam.”
Both men looked at each other in confusion. Connor looked at Nurse Patti with concern as he took several steps toward the room. “Exam? Is she all right?”
Jared was right behind him.
Patti looked around the hallway to see if anything was out of the ordinary, but being distrustful, she cocked her head for them to follow her and waited for them to enter. Once inside, she closed the door behind them.
“I’m sorry, gentlemen. I was providing the patient her privacy by having you leave the room,” Patti said as she resumed her place next to Doc Anderson.
The older gentleman smiled down at her before looking at the men. “I let you know yesterday that I was going to do the exam she needed while she was here. I just performed that exam and should have the results in a couple of days. I will call Gina with the results as soon as I receive them.”
Both men let out audible sighs. One, knowing their woman was all right, and two because they would be able to play au natural soon.
Stepping forward, Connor offered his hand to Pattie. “I’m so sorry I thought the worst of you when you kicked us out. You are a sly lady.”
The fact that Doc Anderson had his arm around the lady didn’t register until the woman stepped forward and the man’s hand rested on her shoulder. Connor’s brow rose questionably as his gaze met with the kind doctor’s but didn’t say a word. Doc Anderson smiled at the man then back down at Patti.
“There is nothing to apologize for,” Patti said sweetly. “You will find over time that I have a playful streak that sometimes gets away from me.”
“Well, by the looks of it, ma’am, we’ll be seeing a lot more of you in the future,” Jared said stepping up next to Connor.
Doc Anderson stepped forward letting his hand slide down Patti’s back before winking at the men. “I have a little meeting I need to take care of before returning to the office. I’ll be talking to you gentlemen later. I’ll be calling you with the results in a few days, Gina.”
“Good-bye, Doc. You, too, Patti,” Gina said sassily. “And thank you for your help this morning, and for the fun.”
The two medical professionals chuckled as they exited the room, although as the door closed, both lawmen moved closer to the bed.
“You think that’s funny, do you?” Connor asked seriously.
Eyeing both of them with their serious expressions, Gina swallowed hard. Holding up her hands in defense, a giggle escaping her as they both got closer to the bed, she said, “Don’t look at me. She did it all on her own. If you are going to be mad, be mad at her.”
Connor set a hand down on her abdomen while Jared’s hand landed on her thigh. Both men stared into hers as their fingers began to move on her body, tickling her. Her laugh rang through the room as they tortured her, savoring her happy mood.
After a few moments, she began to call “uncle.” They finally stopped, massaging the areas instead sending shivers of arousal to her most private areas.
Before they could go too far, Connor’s phone rang, disrupting the mood. Pulling it off his belt clip, he pushed a button to put it on speaker phone. “Lawson!”
“Hey, Connor, it’s Lyndee. We found the pickup.”
The sheriff’s gaze shifted to Jared’s before both men looked at Gina’s confused face. Pressing a button on the phone, he lifted it to his ear. “Where?”
Turning, he walked out of the room. Letting the door close behind him in a swish, he leaned against the wall next to the door as Lyndee provided him the needed information. Shaking his head as she explained, he was finally able to speak.
“Can you send Lawrence in here to sit with Gina while Jared and I go check this out?” When Lyndee answered him, he responded, “Good. We’ll wait for him and then meet you at the site.”
Disconnecting the call, he hit a speed dial button before raising the phone back to his ear. “Hey, Ang, can you come up to the hospital for a little while. Jared and I need to go check something out and we don’t want to leave her alone.”
When he got his answer, he hung up and started to go back into the room but stopped when he spotted a figure stepping off the elevator. The gray hoodie over the man’s head was recognized immediately by the sheriff who began to gravitate toward the lobby area in a brisk fashion.
The man, about five-ten, moved toward the nurse’s station, nervously glancing around. His build was thin, which was one of the features Connor thought was odd when he saw the man at the diner.
Stopping at the nurse’s station, Connor caught Patti’s attention as she spoke quietly with Doc Anderson. Looking up from the doctor to him, she saw the concern on his face. With a raised brow in question, she didn’t have to speak.
“Tell Jared something came up,” he said tersely, glancing toward the odd man. Lowering his voice, he said, “Also, call security.”
At the same time he spoke the last sentence, the man spotted him. Glancing around, the man bolted for the stairwell. Pushing through the door, the man could be heard running down the metal steps within the enclosed area, the sound echoing before the door closed.
“Geez, why did he have to run?” The rhetorical question came out of Connor before he could stop himself. Taking off, he ran to the stairwell door, pushed it open with such force it hit the wall with a thud before it began to close on its own.
Instead of running down the steps, Connor leapt from landing to landing, which consisted of a half a flight of stairs, about six or seven steps. With each drop, he landed with a
humph
but kept moving, grabbing the rail to steady himself. The movement hurt his feet in his cowboy boots but determination to catch the guy won out over his pain. He could hear the footsteps of the man further down and he seemed to be gaining speed.
Connor heard the door open on the first floor and the footsteps stopped. The door slammed as Connor landed on the last landing before the first floor. Leaping from that, he landed on the cement floor next to the door. Pulling the metal door open, he stepped into the hallway and glanced from side to side.
Seeing the man running into the large lobby at the front of the hospital, he ran after him. As Connor ran through the corridor, nurses, doctors, and other people stopped to watch activity. Connor spotted a security guard rush into the lobby, but the strange man was already past him and heading out the automated doors.
The security guard tried to follow the man but he was too close to him and the man stopped, pushing him backward. The guard floundered momentarily before falling backward, landing on his right arm. It looked painful.
Coming into the lobby, Connor had to skirt around several people who by then were standing and gawking at the man who had just exited the building in a rush being chased by a sheriff’s officer. Exiting the doors himself, Connor stopped to look around. Not seeing the man at all, he bent down to help out the guard who was trying to stand.
A nurse followed Connor out of the building and came to kneel down and proceed to examine the man’s wrist.
“Did you see which way he went?” Connor asked him as he ran his hand through his hair in frustration.
The guard shook his head dejectedly before his face lit up in pain.
“It’s broke,” the nurse said matter-of-factly.
Connor pulled the man up by his good arm and began to escort him back into the building. When they got to the doorway, he took one last look around to see if the man might be watching, though he didn’t see anything.
“Shit!” he exclaimed as he continued on with the guard.
“Man, I’m sorry,” the middle-aged man said as the nurse guided them both toward the emergency room.
“No. It’s not your fault. I’ll get him sooner or later,” Connor said. “He just hurt my woman and I want him bad.”
This form of speech from any man in the region met with understanding from the male species. The good men protected their women from harm and the guard nodded his head at the sheriff. “I hope you get him, son.”
Connor nodded his thanks as he helped the man onto the gurney in one of the rooms of the ER. “Thank you, sir. I’m sorry you got hurt.”
Chuckling, the man responded, “No problem. I needed a vacation anyway.”
Connor shook the man’s hand before leaving the room. Heading back to the corridor he had previously come through, he found the stairwell door and entered. Making his way up the stairs, he discovered a key ring that had been dropped on one of the landings. Picking it up, he looked it over and found it to be a leather fob with a Trans Am insignia on it. Finding it odd, he pocketed it and headed up to the maternity floor.
