It would only be four weeks until he was with her again in London.

Chapter Fourteen

In her lawyer’s office, Sam signed the decree absolute. She was finally free of Dan. Her lawyer looked at her strangely as she smiled wryly to herself. Now she could concentrate on Jay. There was no baggage between them.

She met Lisa for coffee in the café on the waterfront. Lisa was already there when Sam arrived. She smiled broadly. Sam ordered a latte and sat down.

Since they got back from LA, Lisa was surprisingly upbeat. Sam knew that her friend had had a good time with Nick but she suspected that maybe for Lisa anyway, that it was just a bit more than a shared holiday romance.

“Just had a text from Nick,” she beamed. Sam was amazed. She didn’t
think he would contact Lisa again.

“Cool. How did it go with you two anyway? You never did say.” Sam was curious. Lisa had been great support in the days since they came back.

The waitress brought the coffee and Sam asked her for the newspaper. Since she got back, Sam kept checking the newspapers.

They chatted for a while then a voice behind Sam startled her. It was Dan.

“So you finally decided to show!” He was angry. Sam looked up at him. He was the same age as her but in recent weeks he looked different. He seemed older and bitter. Sam thought of Jay. He was five years older than her but he didn’t
look older than thirty. And he was so damn good-looking.

“Nice to see you too, Dan.” She said sarcastically.

“Who was that jerk on the phone?” He hissed at her as he pulled up a chair.

“Oh, that was my new boyfriend,” she loved it. Dan was squirming.

“And to think I actually felt anything for you.” He spat the words. Just then her phone rang.

“Yes.” She said shakily.

“Darlin, I miss you.”

“Jay!” She almost screamed in excitement. “Where are you?” He laughed and told her he was in the hot tub thinking of her. Sam could hear music in the background and guessed the guys were over. It felt so good to hear his voice.

“I miss you so much.” Her voice was full of tenderness. “Jay.”

“Babe.” He answered seductively. She could imagine him smiling.

“My divorce is final, Jay.” She looked at Dan as she said it. There was a broad smile on her face. There was silence. Then the line went dead. Not understanding she looked at her phone in horror. Had he hung up on her? Then she saw the problem. Her battery had died.

Sam turned to Dan and said harshly.

“We have nothing more to say to each other. Goodbye Dan.” She stood up and walked away, Lisa walking behind her.

Outside the cafe, the tears welled up inside her. She desperately needed Jay now. But he was over six thousand miles away.

She hugged Lisa and went back to the gallery. She had a meeting in twenty minutes with Barbara.

Sam needed time to collect herself and regain her professionalism again. By the time she reached her office, she was back to her normal self.

Barbara was already waiting for her when she got inside. She was eating a piece of chocolate. She offered a piece to Sam but Sam smiled and refused gracefully. She was on a diet, that didn’t include chocolate. She wanted to look her best when she met Jay next week.

“Missy, when I was a lass the only thing to give us guilty pleasure was chocolate, there was no such thing as sex.” Barbara said jokingly. Sam laughed loudly. She was very fond of Barbara.

“Somehow, I imagine you were a siren, Barb.” The two women laughed. Then they discussed the forthcoming show. It was opening on Thursday. Sam had arranged for some photographers from the major press to be there.

“Do you think I’
m beautiful enough dear?” Sam smiled and gave the older woman a hug. Sam could tell from Barbara

s bone structure that she had been a stunning looking woman in her younger days.

All week Sam was busy with the arrangements for the show. She hadn

t heard from Jay since she told him her divorce was final. But she knew he was busy shooting the video for their new single. Lisa had received three texts and a phone call from Nick. He told her he would be coming to London with Jay on Saturday.

On Thursday, Sam was in her office when there was a slight knock on her door. She wasn

t expecting anyone. She didn’t look up from her file as she said to come in.

The door opened and all she could see was a delivery boy with a large bouquet of white roses.

“They’
re beautiful!” She exclaimed. A very familiar voice said:

“Not as beautiful as you Babe!” Sam screeched as she recognised the voice.

“Jay!” She got up from her desk and almost jumped into his arms. She couldn’t
believe he was here. It was only Thursday.

“Sam, I missed you so much.” He sat on her desk, with his arms around her waist.

“I missed you too, but what about the video?” He laughed and she called out for some coffee.

He told her they had decided to use live cuts for most of it and for the end of the video they would use the band fooling around and hanging out.

“Sam you look great.” The door opened and her secretary came in with two mugs. She looked nervously at Jay, she recognised him immediately. He winked at her as he took the mug of coffee from her.

She quickly retreated and they were alone again. Jay was still sitting on her desk and watching her intently as she raised the mug to her lips. “Man, you are killing me.” She laughed. Sam knew she wanted to make love to him right there on the desk. It had been almost a month since she had been with him.

Jay put down his mug and grabbed her waist and pulled her into his arms. He kissed her passionately.

“I want to take you here,” she felt his chest with her hand. She wanted him. Just then her phone rang. Jay laughed as he released her. She steadied herself as she answered it.

“Hello!” It was Barbara. She was wondering if she could bring an old friend to the show tonight.

Jay got up and walked over to Sam and grabbed her waist and began kissing her neck. She couldn’t stop smiling. She reassured Barbara that the show would be a great success and not to worry. After she hung up she turned to Jay and said in her most seductive voice.

“Take me to bed, slave!”  He laughed loudly as she got her coat and they left her office.

They found a quiet pub near the gallery. And Jay asked Sam about the divorce. She told him how happy she was that it was finally behind her. He moved closer to her. Before he left for New York he was going to ask her to move to LA with him.

“It’
s so good to have you here,” she reached for his hand. Sam needed to touch him, to remind herself that he was real and not a dream.

An hour or so before the show was to open, Jay zipped up her dress. He joked that he should be unzipping it instead. Sam flashed him a very seductive smile. A few minutes later they left for the gallery.

Nick and Lisa were already there when they arrived. The caterers had already set up and Barbara was waiting nervously with her old school friend.

“Samantha dear,” she tugged her arm. “This is Peggy, my old school chum.” Sam gave her a kiss on both cheeks and welcomed her to the gallery. Barbara glanced with amusement at Jay. Sam smiled and said:

“This is Jay.” He took her hand and kissed it and with his very sexy accent said:

“It is a pleasure to meet two very beautiful ladies.” The elderly ladies laughed and Barbara told him one of her stories, about a GI who broke her heart.

Sam excused herself and went to her office. She checked her makeup again and touched the locket that Jay had bought her. She desperately wanted this show to go well for Barbara.

She went to the door and back into the gallery. Jay was still chatting to Barbara and Peggy. He was so charming and very handsome. She could tell from the expression on their faces he had won them over. Sam smiled as she approached and Barbara said fondly:

“Samantha, you hold on to this one,” she squeezed Jay’
s hand. “He

s one in a million. And he’s so handsome.” Sam looked lovingly at him. If she could help it, she would never let him go. She took Barbara to meet some of the photographers and one of the local TV reporters. They were all very taken with her. She had a warm way about her and completely disarmed everyone she met with her easy style.

When she had a free moment, Sam joined Lisa and the guys. She had been rushed off her feet all evening. Damon had arrived ten minutes earlier and he and Jay were deep in conversation.

Edmund, the gallery owner, signaled for Sam to join him and another man. It was a dealer from Edinburgh. They talked briefly and Sam said she would meet him first thing in the morning to agree a deal on some of Barbara

s paintings.

About twenty minutes before the show was to finish, there were still a few people hanging around and talking to Edmund and Barbara. She wished she could go but she knew she had to hang on until the last person left.

“Tell them all to go and lock the door,” Jay whispered in her ear. Sam laughed.

“You said that last time too!” He kissed her. She desperately wanted to be alone with him.

She looked up as the door opened and in walked Dan. Sam

s mouth almost dropped open. She glanced over to Lisa, who stared back at her in horror. Sam went over to him and asked him what he wanted.

“That’
s no way to treat a prospective buyer.” Sam tried to bring him back to the door. She smelled drink off him and guessed he must be drunk. She looked pleadingly over to Lisa but it was Jay who saw the panic in her face and went over to her.

“You ok Sam?” He asked. Dan turned to Jay and rather unsteadily put his hand on his shoulder and said:

“You! I know… you don’
t I?” Jay grinned and said sarcastically to him.

“Yeah, I’
m famous. I will give you an autograph if you come with me.” He was ushering him outside. But Dan was having none of it. Nick came over and together they manhandled him outside.

“You’
re the yank that

s fucking my wife!” Dan shouted as they turned to go back inside. Jay stopped and turned to Dan.
