Chapter 1
--Running with Paranoia

Running, I was always running.  It seemed like I would
never be free and the truth is that I never will be free.  My life will
always haunt me, it will till the day that I die.

I had traveled for 17 hours to get to a new destination,
somewhere in the south, far away from the Canadian border where Damien's home
entrance lay.  I had gone the super long way to get to my new, but
temporary home.  I had become paranoid now; trying to make sure I left a
very scattered trail, if one at all.  I was pulling to a stop outside
Hickory Lake when I'd had enough.

"What the hell is going on?" I asked out
loud.
Yes, I know crazy person here.

That had been a shorter stay than most of my stays.
San Francisco had only lasted three months and I had to escape in a
hurry.  Was I getting bad at running and hiding or are they just getting
better at tracking and finding me?

I was starting to worry if I had left any pieces of me
behind as I came into town and worked my way through the streets to my new
home. I went over my mental checklist of everything I had to do to disappear
each time.  I had made sure all the furniture that I had rented was
delivered to an auction house four hours away from my apartment and then I took
my clothes to the homeless shelter and personally started handing them out so I
would know my scent would be gone.  People were already wearing them so
there really wasn't a good way to track me.  I knew I was just being super
paranoid.

My mind was spinning with too many questions.  Who had
he sent this time?  I had already sent most of his best hunters back to
hell and some more than once.  How had they gotten so close that
time?  What other means was he using now to find me?  I'm sure that
the blue eyed stranger was part of the team that was there, he felt too close
to believe otherwise.

My head began to hurt with all of the how comes and the
what-ifs that could be.  I was in need of some sleep and to reboot for the
next round of battles.  I managed to find my rental house with no issues
and I felt good about this town and this house.  I have learned to go with
a good feeling in my gut when I get it, and to not let go.  I've had to
learn that the hard way many times since I was 15.

I made my rounds outside of the house, since I had placed a
nice deposit on the house the agency left me a key which I easily found by the
door.  I was thankful I could go in and get some much needed sleep.
I kept a pillow and blanket in the Jeep so I grabbed it and headed in.  By
some stroke of karma there was a nice couch in the living room so I would have
no trouble sleeping, well at least comfort wise there would not be an issue.

I thought about my life as I lay down for sleep.  I
thought about what my life was like now, how I have to find a place, become
invisible if possible, stay low, and when things get too comfy or dangerous I
pack up and leave; getting far away and then do it all over again.  Yes I
was a self-sufficient loner who had made a career out of moving.

This was my life since I was 15 and I had seen my mom
murdered.  All my life growing up with her we had moved around many
times.  But since her death I had been on the run alone for almost six
years now.  At least it all hadn't been a complete shock to have.
When I was 10 my mom sat me down and explained to me about my heritage and my
dad.

I had known since I was 5 that I was a witch and had created
a water spout in the tub when I had thrown a fit about getting out.  That
was a shock to say the least.  But at 10, my mom, Jacklyn, had finally
explained to me why we had always been on the move and why I could do certain
things with my mind, other than the witch things that is.  I think that's
when the first stages of paranoia really started

At night when I went to sleep I tried to either think of my
mom or wipe my mind out completely because I would rather dream of her death a
thousand times a night than face the other dreams that plague me.  The
demons, fires, and now a blue eyed stranger who haunts and terrorizes my dreams
as of late are so real that I find myself sometimes physically hurt from them
when I awake, so my mother is what took hold of my brain tonight.

Chapter 2--
Wreckage and Idiots

My past filled my dreams for a few hours; it always did when
I thought about my mom.  I'd had a semi normal childhood or normal enough
for a witch.  Most witches live like normal people and honestly you never
really know that you might live right next door to one.  For us we had
moved probably fifty times by the time I was 8, but for me that was normal.

Tonight my mom and a blonde woman filled my dreams.  I
remember it was just before my mom told me the truth about my dad.  We had
been living in Utah at the time and this woman with champagne colored hair and
dark green eyes showed up at our home.  She and my mom seemed to know one
another very well because their conversation was warm and friendly from the
start.  I was sent to my room to play while they discussed "adult
things."  I remember hating that phrase.  From my room I could
hear only a muffled conversation and at times it was yelling and others there
were crying.  The lady with the jeweled eyes wasn't scary, so I didn't
worry about my mom and besides I knew that she could take care of herself, she
was a witch for crying out loud.

It was after the lady left that my life really did change and
at first I had blamed her for all my problems, but later in life I realized
that my father and ultimately my mother were the ones at fault.

Tidbits of their conversation and my mom's explanation
filled my dream mind and in those words other images came forth.

"He knows she was born Jacklyn, he will come for
her" the lady had said to my mom in a rushed voice.

"He will not have her, I will protect her" my
mom retorted.

"Don't be a fool Jacklyn, I have seen it.
Don't forget I was the one who prophesized that he will send the bastard heir
to find her.  The boy with the blue eyes will find her"

At the mention of the blue eyed stranger my dream turned to
him, he was searching for me.  I could see him in the town I had just left
only two days ago.  He was at the house I had been living in.

"Ah, my sweet Katilyn you escaped me again.
Not to worry my dear, you are to be mine and I will have you.  I am coming
for you."
The stranger whispered into the wind, with the intention
that I would hear what he had to say.

I jerked awake at the sound of the alarm.  I glanced
around checking my surroundings, making sure that I was still in the new house
on the couch.  I was still there and I was tangled in my blanket.

The conversation haunted me, she had known he would come for
me and she never told me.  That's the sucky thing about dreams mine often
reveal more than I knew to begin with.  I wish I could make a spell that
would let me sleep without dreams, but so far nothing seemed to work.

I really try to not dwell on my dreams for good reasons.
First of all most are the past and who the hell wants to relive that shit on a
nightly basis?  And secondly I do not, in any way, want to think about
that stranger and invite him into my waking hours.  If I can just keep him
in my dreams I feel like I will be okay; at least until the day he finally does
catch up with me.

A hot shower and an hour later I found myself pulling up to
a quaint little realtor's office.  I was greeted by a short, bald man,
probably in his late forties.  He looked like Mr. Clean, but short and
aged, like the cleaner guy should be.  The visual gave me a laugh; which I
kindly held in.

"Yes, may I help you?" cleaner man asked in a deep
booming voice that did not fit his size.

"I was looking for Mr. Leevy.  I'm Katilyn
Stiles." I offered my hand for politeness but also as a test for
demons.  I have spelled myself so a touch from a demon or a human being
possessed by a demon is like grabbing a hot iron.  Mr. Leevy was as human
as possible.

"Oh Ms. Stiles, it's so nice to finally meet you, I am
Mr. Leevy, but you can call me John.  I see that you did in fact make it
in at last.  Was your trip long?" he chatted as he led me to the
inner office and sat at his desk and started taking out papers.

"Yes, I made it in fine, rather late but the trip was
fine.  Thanks again for leaving me a key to let myself in, I really do
appreciate it.  The house is lovely by the way; it is just what I was
looking for." I smiled as I sat down across from him.

"Excellent!  I'm glad it was to your liking given
that you put a large amount of money down on it.  Okay then, shall we get
down to business?" he looked to me and I nodded.

"I did have a chance to speak to the owner and he did
agree to cut the lease agreement from six months to three months, providing a
few stipulations." He eyed me skeptically wondering if I would still want
this option.

"Ok John so what are these stipulations?" I was
not in the mood to be second guessed or looked at like I was a kid, yes I am
only 20 but I am old beyond my years.

Mr. Leevy cleared his throat, "Well the owner asked
that you pay all three months up front and an extra $500 security
deposit.  If that is not possible then he said no deal." Now he was
really looking at me like I was going to turn and run.

"So another five grand and the place will be mine for
three months, correct?" I raised my eyebrow at him and he nodded.

"Alright then, I will make the call to have the money
wired to his account right now.  I just need the account numbers so I can
call my bank so they can make the transfer." I dug my cell phone out of my
bag and started dialing the banks number while John put his chin back on his
face and started fumbling for the account numbers.  After ten minutes the
bank had the money transferred and I signed my new lease papers.

"Will there be anything else John?" I got up to
leave because I still had other errands to run and I was tired of getting the
look of doubt and suspicion.

"No Ms. Stiles that will be all.  Enjoy your new
home.  When you are ready to leave you will receive your deposits back
after two weeks given the place is like it was when you moved in." he
smile broadly, for some reason I got a weird vibe from him all of a sudden..

"Oh, John I almost forgot, if there are any maintenance
issues who do I contact?" I had almost forgotten that detail.

"Oh the owner has a grounds keeper that comes twice a
week to check the property and if there are any inside problems you are to give
him a call.  His number will be on a business card on the fridge." He
stood from his desk and escorted me out to the lobby.

"Ok thank you very much John." I shook his hand
one more time and left.

Five hours later and lots of money spent I was heading
home.  I had bought furniture to fill the house.  It had a couch,
recliner, and a table and chairs but after that the house was bare.  So I
filled a two bedroom, two bath home with items that I would want.  I also
bought another two chairs for the living room, since I really wasn't fond of
the recliner and would move it to the garage while I would be there.  The
delivery men said that they should be to my house in about three hours so that
would give me time to go grocery shopping.  By the time I was done I
should be right on schedule in meeting them there.
