“I want to hear your heartbeat while I fuck you.”
Paige tried to tell herself that he was just being sexy. It was his job to seduce her, after all, but Gregory wasn’t one to use words or phrases like that. She lay down against his chest and moved in rhythm to his thrusts. Her climax was so close, and when Demetrius took out the butt plug and she heard him put on a condom, the dam broke.
Her contractions were still going on when Demetrius teased the opening of her anus with his dick. She assumed he’d put lube over the condom because when he slipped in, the burning only lasted a few seconds, and then the most incredible feeling assaulted her senses. She’d never had anal sex before and wondered why it had taken her so long. It was amazing.
Having both their dicks inside her at the same time was the ultimate aphrodisiac. Paige forgot about Lilith and thoughts of falling in love, and just let go. Gregory moved her against him while he fucked her pussy slowly, and Demetrius fucked her ass gently.
The men changed places a couple of times, and both were so patient with her that she shed tears for the third time that night. Each time they did Paige was overcome with a peaceful feeling of fullness. If they fucked her like this every day for the rest of her life, it wouldn’t be enough. By the time she’d had two more orgasms, she was too tired to try and speak.
Strong hands lifted her and laid her in Demetrius’s bed. Arms enveloped her in a strong but tender embrace, one set from behind and one in front. Paige drifted off to sleep.
Gregory watched Paige sleep, wondering if she’d simply sifted through his books or actually found something he should have hidden a long time ago.
Something
had sparked the idea to ask them if they’d ever asked Lilith to reverse the curse. He’d given the piles of books a cursory glance earlier before joining them in Demetrius’s suite, but hadn’t been able to tell what she might have found. He’d need more time in there to figure it out.
Demetrius came back into the room, holding a bottle of beer. He raised his eyebrows, silently asking Gregory if he wanted one. Gregory shook his head.
“Want to talk in the other room?” he whispered.
Gregory nodded and followed him out to the sitting room. The air still held the scent of Paige’s warm, wet pussy and her perfume. When she’d told them she didn’t want to leave in six days, it had been all he could do not to get on his knees and beg her to stay. What the fuck was he going to do? He’d never let a woman under his skin this much. Never. He had no idea how to handle it.
“What’s on your mind?” asked Demetrius.
“I think she found something.”
“In that mess?”
“One of the corners was disturbed, but I didn’t want to take the time to look more closely.”
Demetrius drained his beer and chuckled. “How the fuck would you know if anything was moved?”
“I know. It’s a controlled mess, okay?”
“Okay. What besides the slightly altered controlled chaos makes you think she found something she shouldn’t have?”
“Where did that question come from? The one about did we ever ask Lilith to reverse the curse?”
Demetrius shrugged and walked toward the kitchen. “Maybe she was just curious?”
“Maybe not. Maybe she’s thinking of messing in things she shouldn’t be messing in.”
When Demetrius returned he popped the top off his second beer and leaned against the wall, a thoughtful look on his face. “So, ask her.”
“I did, remember?”
Demetrius smiled. “She was a bit distracted, Gregory. Ask her again when she wakes up.”
Gregory rested his hands on his knees and placed his chin in his hands. Paige finding a spell book or something similar wasn’t the only thing on his mind, but how could he tell Demetrius he was falling for Paige? They were the only two left. He couldn’t do this to Demetrius or to the others. What would happen to the resort? Sofia’s cousins were doing a great job, but it wasn't the same. It would never be the same again. He suddenly missed the others so much it hurt.
He wanted things to go back to the way they were before Blair showed up. He wanted Leo, Andras, Hugh, and Sterling back. He wanted to see Blade and Cristian as young Nephilim again. He wanted Zach, Emmett, Reeve, and Niko to be Nephilim again. He wanted all twelve of them running the resort with minimal outside interference, doing whatever they wanted, with whomever they wanted, whenever they wanted.
And when you had that, you all were bored and lonely—you included.
Demetrius sat beside him and studied him carefully. “You’re carrying the weight of the world, my friend. What else is bothering you?”
“Shit, man. This is all fucked up.”
“What is?”
“You know what.”
“Pretend I don’t.”
“Fuck you.”
Demetrius shrugged. “Okay, then don’t tell me.”
“She’s fun.”
“I agree, Gregory. She’s fun and easy to be with.”
“And pretty. She’s really pretty.”
“Very.”
“And she fucks like a goddess.”
Demetrius chuckled. “Can’t say. I haven’t fucked many goddesses.”
“You know what I mean.”
“I know what you mean.”
“And she’s intelligent.”
“Very.” Demetrius took a long slug of his beer and wiped his mouth on his forearm. “She could help us. Help this resort. She said the same thing Joelle tried to tell us decades ago, and both were right.”
“I know. We should advertise all the activities we offer. We’d be rich as Croesus.”
“I know.”
“The others know it, too, don’t they?”
“They know it, Gregory. Just the other day I overheard Zach and Emmett talking yet again about forming a board so we have everything in place one day. Abigail is researching it for them, in fact.”
Gregory narrowed his eyes as the skin on his arms prickled. “They don’t think we can run this place by ourselves, do they?”
Demetrius frowned. “I don’t think that’s it. I think they believe all this time we’re spending with Paige means it’s nearly the end for us as well. The end of our being Nephilim, I mean.”
Demetrius’s softly spoken words hung in the air like palpable things that Gregory could reach out and touch. Only he didn’t want to touch them. He wanted to capture them and bury them deep in the ground where no one would ever find them. If he ever needed confirmation that Demetrius was as crazy about Paige as he was, he now had it. And if the others were talking about it, that meant they could see it as well. It was that obvious.
Was it obvious to Paige as well? Did she know how both of them felt about her?
“It’s not like you to be so quiet.”
“Fuck you, Demetrius.”
He chuckled again and drained his second beer.
“It’s not like you to drink so much.” Gregory felt like a prize idiot saying that, but he didn’t know what else to say at that moment.
“I’m conflicted, therefore I drink.”
“Fuck you, Demetrius.”
“You keep saying that. Gonna tell me what’s really bothering you? If not I’m going to go back into the bedroom and wake up Paige. You can sit out here brooding and listen to us fuck if you want.”
“Shit. You fucking know what’s bothering me. Same thing that’s bothering you.”
“I’m not all that bothered about it.”
“The hell you aren’t.”
Demetrius stretched and yawned. “You’re the one sitting here swearing, all tied up in knots. I’m the one going back in there to make love to the best thing that’s ever happened to both of us. Who’s more bothered about it, Gregory?”
“All right. I’ll tell you.”
Demetrius walked into the kitchen, and Gregory listened to him toss both empty bottles into the trash. Then he came back into the sitting room and leaned against the wall, his arms crossed. “I’m listening.”
“If I tell you, then you have to tell me.”
“Tell you what?”
“Dammit, Demetrius. Are you honestly going to stand there with that fucking smug look on your face and pretend you aren’t as crazy in love with her as I am? Really?”
Gregory braced himself for the characteristic laugh and grin, but it never came. Instead, a shadow of fear—real fear—passed over Demetrius’s face. He nodded a few times then walked into the kitchen. When he returned he had two beers. Silently, he handed one to Gregory and took a seat next to him.
“To throwing it all away for love,” he said, holding his bottle close to Gregory’s.
Gregory hesitated a second then clinked his bottle against Demetrius’s. “To fucking throwing it all away for love. Shit.”
* * * *
Paige woke to the smell of eggs and coffee. They always made sure she had plenty of food to eat. It was one of so many thoughtful things they did each day for her. She’d had disturbing dreams all night, and even waking to the smell of breakfast this morning couldn't chase away the frightening pictures in her head. She remembered her mother telling her that was all dreams were—pictures in her head. They couldn’t actually hurt her.
Demetrius’s and Gregory’s warm bodies and their scents couldn’t erase the images of charred flesh or the sound of mocking laughter that now haunted her waking state. Why the hell had she dreamed like that? It was the first time she could remember such vivid, horrible dreams during her stay here. But the question that really plagued her this morning was whether they were connected to the blast of cold air and soft laughter she’d heard the night before.
If Lilith had had a hand in both incidents, then she moved freely about this resort and was able to influence dreams. Did Gregory and Demetrius know this? Wouldn’t that give her far more power than they’d both tried to convince Paige she had manifested since placing the curse on them?
Demetrius’s words from the week before came back to her.
“You don’t need to fear her, although I can understand your reaction. She’s here to taunt us. Her vendetta is with us, not you.”
Then why had Paige had those dreams? And why had Lilith been in the bathroom in Demetrius’s suite last evening?
“You look tired.” Demetrius studied her face carefully—too carefully. Paige averted her gaze, but she knew it wouldn’t fool him.
“Did you not sleep well?”
“I’m all right.” She stuffed a forkful of eggs into her mouth and pretended to be absorbed in the scenery outside.
“Paige, you’re a terrible liar.” Even Gregory’s sexy grin couldn’t chase away the images from her dream.
“You were tossing in your sleep a lot,” said Demetrius, glancing at her from over the rim of his coffee cup.
“Bad dreams.”
“Want to tell us about them?”
“I really can’t remember them. You know how that is.”
He chuckled. “Actually, we don’t. We don’t dream, even when we do sleep.”
“Really?”
“Really.”
“Never? What about the ones who’ve become mortal? Do they dream now?”
“Stop trying to change the subject, Paige.” Demetrius’s gaze bore into her eyes.
“No, really. I’m curious.”
“I have no idea. But right now I’m more interested in what kept you from sleeping so well. What did you dream about?”
Telling them would lead to more questions, and then she’d have to admit she’d never told them about the laughter in her suite the day she found the rose. And that meant she’d have to tell them about the laughter she’d heard and the cold air she’d felt last evening. They’d told her all Lilith did was play pranks. Did that include invading people’s dreams? “What kind of pranks does Lilith play? When she does, that is?”
“Why do you ask?” Demetrius’s voice was neutral, but Paige didn’t miss the way a muscle in his right cheek twitched. She also caught Gregory’s intake of breath.
“Just curious.”
“You’re curious about a lot of things this morning.”
“Just making conversation.”
“Uh-huh.” He put down his coffee cup and leaned back in his chair, crossing one ankle over the opposite knee. “Well, from what we hear, she has a penchant for those black roses you saw, and she likes to move things around the guests’ suites. Kind of like a poltergeist.”
“Does she talk or laugh, or anything like that?” Paige’s heart was hammering. They weren’t stupid. They’d see right through her ruse.
“Not that I’ve heard of.”
“Then how do you know it’s her moving things or leaving the roses?”
“The black roses are from her,” said Gregory. “She’s done that before. To us.”
“So then, you just assume the rest of the odd things are due to her as well. You don’t really know.”
Demetrius nodded. “That’s true, actually. We don't know. But no one else is haunting this resort, Paige.”
“You would know?”
“We would know.” Demetrius leaned forward and took the cup from her hands. He placed it on the table and took both her hands in one of his strong ones. The air on the balcony became charged, as if a storm was brewing. Paige glanced outside at the clear sky then looked into his eyes.
He was using his powers. She knew it. He was trying to get her to tell him about her dreams. These men cared for her and protected her. She had no idea if they knew the depths of her feelings for them, but she knew two things for certain. She was head over heels in love with both of them, and she’d never known the kind of care and friendship they’d given her these past nine days. What would be the harm in telling them the truth?
Paige took a deep breath. “The day I found the rose in my suite, something else happened that I never told you about.” Demetrius squeezed her hands. “I heard laughter, in addition to feeling the blast of cold air.”
“What kind of laughter?”
Paige shrugged. “Female, mocking, soft.”
“That’s it?”
She shook her head. “That’s all that happened that first day, but last night in the spare bathroom I heard it again. And the cold air was back.”
Demetrius and Gregory exchanged a glance.
“I told her to go away.”
“What?”
“I said, ‘Go away, Lilith,’ and that’s when she laughed.”
“And your dreams last night?”
“Charred flesh, horrible screams, and that’s honestly all I remember. Each time I woke up one of you was there and that helped, but when I went back to sleep the same dreams came back.”
