Kate felt his hand on her back, but it didn’t feel right. In fact, it felt more wrong than it probably should have. It was just an innocent touch, wasn’t it? Tom was simply a nice guy, so why was his hand moving lower?

Kate spun around, effectively dislodging his hand from her back. “Tom you stay here. The hotel is right down the street, so I’m safe enough.”  She didn’t tell him that she’d have to take a cab to get there.  She quickly felt the need to get away from him, not sure why though.

Tom was starting to shake his head but she put a hand on his forearm, effectively stopping any argument he might have. “No, really. I’m fine. You stay here, and I’ll see you next week.”

Tom still looked like he was going to argue so she put up her hand and waved goodbye. She wasn’t going to argue with Tom, and she felt like she really needed to get out of this bar. Looking down so she wouldn’t trip over other people’s purses or briefcases that they’d set on the floor, she carefully but quickly made her way out of the bar.

Perhaps if she had been looking more carefully, she might have missed him. But since she was looking down and she was trying to get away from Tom, who had suddenly turned a bit too proprietary for her comfort, she didn’t see the extremely large man looming in front of her. Kate’s first indication that Davis was here was when she ran smack into his hard, muscular chest.

As soon as the strong arms wrapped around her waist and stopped her from falling, she knew exactly who was holding her. She stood there for a long moment, simply savoring the incredible feeling of his arms around her one more time. But as reality came back to her, she knew that she had to push away from him. This was not right, she had to keep her distance.

Unfortunately, Davis was not releasing her quite so easily. His hands gripped her upper arms, not letting her step back more than a couple of inches. “What the hell are you doing here again?” he demanded of her.  “I dragged you out of here just last night.”

Kate held her breath as she looked up at the man, her heart pounding and her knees going week. She opened her mouth to say something, but then her eyes dropped to his lips and all thoughts of whatever she might have been about to say disappeared from her mind. The only thing she could think of was how wonderful his mouth would feel on hers, or anywhere else on her body.

“Answer me, dammit,” he demanded of her, his body stirring to painful need with that sensuous look.

Kate heard the angry tone in his voice. Everything inside of her was focused on what it would be like to feel him kissing her again, and all he wanted to know was why she was in a bar?

She pulled back, creating space between their bodies.  “You’re my boss, not my keeper.” She jerked her arms but she couldn’t release his grip from her upper arms. “Let go of me, Davis.”

“The hell I will,” he replied. Taking her hand, he led her out of the bar, almost pulling her. It was hard for her to keep up with his longer stride. “Davis stop, I can’t keep up.”

He opened the back of the long, black vehicle and impatiently waited for her to climb inside.  When the car was moving again, she glared at him, refusing to speak to him now.  But the silence was too disturbing and he played the game better than she did.  “How could you embarrass me like that?” she accused.  He could be brutish all he wanted, but he’d damn well better not do it with her.

“Embarrass you?” he snapped back.  “You were on your way out!” and he didn’t like the fact that the three men had been were staring at her again. “The men tonight and even the ones last night were ogling you.  I don’t like it.”

She gasped.  “Tom is a nice gentleman.  He wouldn’t do that!”

Davis couldn’t believe what he was hearing.  “Are you serious?”

She rolled her eyes.  “Davis, just because you…”

“Don’t you dare say that I watch you.  I’ve kept my distance from you all day simply so that you could get work done.”

She opened her mouth to say something, then closed it.  She wasn’t really sure what to say, actually.  He was being silly about men watching her.  She simply wasn’t the kind of woman a man would take a second look at.

Five minutes later, they were standing in front of the hotel. He spun around and growled into her ear, “Why were you in that bar?”

She thought about not answering, but it had been such a long day and she hadn’t slept well the previous night.  By this point, she was just too tired to fight him any longer.  “I was having dinner with some friends,” she said, her fingers resting on his chest because he was once more gripping her upper arms. She didn’t have any other place to put her hands. It wasn’t like she really minded touching him.  It was more that she enjoyed it too much. She wanted to run her hands along his chest, to feel the muscles underneath the material of his shirt. When her mind realized what she was thinking, what her hands were starting to do, she curled her hands into fists. Glaring up at him she tried to pull out of his arms but he held her steady.

“What is your friend’s name?  The man who was touching you?” He demanded.

Her eyes stared at his massive chest, her mind going in one direction while her body wanted to go in a completely different direction. “Why do you care?”

Davis struggled to answer that question. He wasn’t exactly sure why he wanted to know, he just knew that it was imperative that she understand that she was his. She was fighting this attraction between them that was becoming a living force that neither of them could deny.  And he didn’t understand why she was doing it.

“Why didn’t you wait for me?”

She opened her mouth again.  “Wait for you?  Why would I do that?”

“I texted you several times, letting you know that I was late but would take you out to dinner as soon as I arrived.”

Kate was shocked.  “Another dinner like last night?  Where you try and figure out…”

He waited, hoping she would finish her sentence.  “Yes, where I try and understand you.”

She shook her head.  “Davis, this just doesn’t make sense.  You’re my client.  My father would…” she stopped before she finished that statement.

“Your father would fire you if he found out that you were sleeping with the client?”

She tried to pull her arms out of his grip but he was holding her firmly.  “You weren’t our client when I slept with you.”

He pulled her closer, bending low so there was no confusion.  “We barely slept, if my memory is correct.”

She opened her mouth to reply, but she couldn’t figure out what to say.  He was right.  They’d been ravenous for each other.  Which was such a shock to her since she’d never felt that way about any man before.

“Come with me,” he commanded at her continued silence. He took her hand, not giving her a chance to argue with him. The lobby of their hotel was busy, with people moving about, trying to get their business accomplished in the most efficient manner. As Davis pulled her through the lobby, people seemed to give way. They saw him coming, saw the determined look on his face, noticed his enormous size and just stepped to the side.

He dragged her into the elevator and pressed the button to their floor. This was one of those moments when she should’ve demanded her own room instead of staying in the same suite with him. There might be ample room for both of them, but the intimacy was not lost on her.

“I should’ve obtained my own room,” she grumbled as the elevator doors closed on just the two of them.

He moved over her, pinning her in place with his angry glare. “Do you really think that would’ve saved you from anything?” He moved even closer. “It would make no difference where you are, where you sleep. You and I both know what’s going to happen. We’ve experienced being with each other already, there’s no way our bodies are going to resist forever.”

She blinked at his bald words and tried to back up but she was already against the wall, her hands flat against the dark wood.  “You’re fooling yourself. I acted inappropriately once. There’s no way I’m going to do it again.”

“Because your father would be angry with you,” he finished her thought.

The elevator doors opened just as he was about to continue. Instead of saying anything, he closed his mouth, grabbed her hand and pulled her down the hallway towards their suite. Once they were both inside he dropped her hand but didn’t let her escape into her own room. “Oh no, little one. You can’t leave me without an explanation as to what you were doing down at the bar and who those men were.”

She shook her head and tried to act like she had it all together. But her mind was suffused with the knowledge that they were alone in a hotel room and there was no one else to stop them. No one would know if she were to throw herself into his arms. Of course, she would know.

And with that realization, she blinked and looked up at him. “I was having a drink and dinner with Tom, Dave and Greg. Tom invited me to come. It was nothing special, it was just a casual gathering of friends at a bar after office hours. You are my client. You don’t have the right to tell me what I can and cannot do. You can’t tell me who I can and cannot see socially.”

As she gave this magnificent speech, her mind whirled with how confident she sounded, how independent. But as she spoke, Davis moved closer. With each step he took towards her she took another step back. Slowly, he eliminated the space between their bodies. She tried to move back even more but something was blocking her, something large and immovable. The furniture in the suite was too big and too sturdy for her escape at this moment.

“Do you honestly think that Tom could give you what you need?” he asked. His arm whipped out, his hand wrapping around her waist and pulling her against his hard body. “Tom couldn’t handle you, even if you were willing to let him touch you.”

She was flustered by his touch and by the look in his eyes that promised something…horribly delicious.  “You don’t even know who Tom is, do you?” she asked belligerently. “Tom is a very nice gentleman.”

His other hand smoothed around from her back, sliding upwards, sending shockwaves of need throughout her body. One hand held her closely, the other hand drove her crazy. To this point, she had been able to resist the temptation of touching him. But those waves of need sent all of her good intentions out the window.

When her hands reached up, gently touching his chest, she shuddered and closed her eyes. “Davis, please don’t do this to me.”

Davis listened to her body, ignoring her words. Her body was telling him what he wanted to hear. Her words were just noise. “Touch me, Kate,” he commanded. And since he didn’t trust her to follow the command, his hand reached down and took her arm smoothing her palm against his chest so that her fingers were splayed out against his muscles. “Touch me the way I know that you want to touch me. Let me feel your fingers against me.”

Kate tried very hard to resist his command but there was only so much temptation she could take. Her fingers slowly extended, her palms resting against his shirt. She could feel the heat of his skin through the material and wanted desperately to feel just his skin, just his heat.  Oh, and those soft, tickling hairs that she’d found so fascinating last time they’d been together. When she felt his hand slide up her waist, his strong hand cupping her breast while his thumb rubbed against her already hard nipple, she lost her ability to resist him.

With trembling hands, her fingers unbuttoned his shirt.  But she was impatient and the buttons were difficult while Davis was kissing her neck.  She couldn’t concentrate well enough to get the seemingly gigantic button through the irritatingly small hole.  When Davis nibbled on a spot right behind her ear, something flipped inside of her and she just about moaned.  Actually, she probably did moan but the worst part was, she ripped his shirt open.  Buttons went everywhere, pinging against the hardwood floor of the elegant suite.  When she realized what she’d done, Kate froze, staring at the threads hanging from his probably expensive shirt in horror.

Davis stopped as well, staring down at her and trying to get his body under control so he didn’t just lift her up and make love to her on the dining room table behind them.  “What’s wrong?” he asked, his hands moving along her back, feeling her soft skin underneath her unflattering black suit.  He’d discarded her jacket and all that remained between him and her lovely breasts was a surprisingly sexy and soft white cotton shirt.

Kate opened her mouth to explain but the words wouldn’t come out.  She’d torn his shirt!  She’d ripped something in a desperate need to feel his heated skin and she’d ripped his shirt!

Stepping back, she clasped her hands together tightly.  “I’m so sorry,” she gasped, looking up into his dark eyes, then back down at the damage her hands had wrought.  “I’ve never done something like that before.”

He chuckled and started to move closer but she stepped back, shaking her head violently as her eyes once again moved to the torn material.  “Kate, I know you’ve never done that.  You haven’t done a lot of things.  At least not until the last time you let yourself go in my arms.”  He was trying to be coaxing and gentle, but he was still too turned on by her desire.  Never had he met a woman who matched him so perfectly and he was determined to show her what they could be like together.

She shook her head again, still staring.  It was like some horrible scene from a low budget movie where the woman was ravishing the man.  Of course, she wanted to do that, but she wasn’t that woman.  She couldn’t be!
