I swallow the lump in my throat and open the note.

Miley,

I really wish I could be there with you today.  You have your whole life ahead of you and I want you to know even if I am not there physically I am there in your heart.  You are my legacy Miley the best thing I ever did with my life was mother you and I hate that it ended too soon.  But every second with you in my life was worth it.

I have to stop
the tears are clouding my vision. I feel Declan’s thumb lightly stroke the back of my hand. “You okay baby?” he says quietly. “It’s killing me not to hold you right now.”

“Yeah,” I sniff before I continue.

You are getting ready to embark on a wonderful adventure. Being married isn’t always easy.  But nothing that’s precious is. I hope the man that you have chosen to marry knows just how precious you are I pray that he deserves you and that even though I was not around long I pray that you remember the example I set on how to be a loving wife. Being your mother and a wife to your dad has been the most rewarding thing in my life. Your dad was supposed to give you a package today it is a bracelet. The one I wore on my wedding day. Wear it. It can be your something old.  And tell your man he better treat you like the princess you are.

I love you with all my heart Miley Anne.

-Love mommy.

I didn’t notice how much I was shaking with my sobs until I am wrapped up in
Declan’s arms. I take a deep breath smelling his awesome soapy light cologne smell.

“Declan Nobel Light!” I hear Robin chasten.

“She has a letter from her mom.” He explains while he continues to rub circles on my back. “Heck with tradition my bride needs me.”

“Oh Miley,” Robin says in a sympathetic voice.  “Why didn’t you text me?”

I pull away from Declan, I can’t help but notice how amazing he looks today. “No offense, Robin, but I needed Declan.”

I look up at him.  His smile almost reaches
completely across his face. “You are beautiful.” He says breathily.

“Yeah, you look pretty good yourself.” I raise my eyebrows at him.

“Okay kids break it up. You aren’t married yet.” Robin says as she pushes Declan out the door. “You’ll see her soon enough.” His eyes stay on mine as his mom shuts the door. Seconds later my phone chimes.

D- I am one happy groom.

I think I now have a permanent smile on my face. Robin turns to me. “You need help with anything else?” she touches my cheek. “We do need to touch up your makeup.”

I pull the pearl bracelet out of the box and hold it up to my wrist. “Will you help me put this on? It was my mom’s.”

I grip my dad’s arm as the wedding march begins. We slowly make it down the aisle. I don’t take my eyes off my groom who is smiling at me as big as I am at him. We are surrounded by friends and family but it is like we are the only ones here.

We get to the wonderful man that God brought to me.  This seems almost like a dream. Nothing else matters as we say our vows to love one another for the rest of our lives. Declan makes a big deal of kissing me bending me back and giving me a huge kiss. I’m little embarrassed by this, but it’s Declan I shouldn’t expect anything else.

Pastor Jack presents us
to our guests as Mr. and Mrs. Declan Light.
Oh my Gosh. I am
Mrs. Declan Light!
We make our way back down the aisle we’re finally starting our lives together.
