Stiffening her back, Fallon brought the side of her hand up to her eyebrow, adjusted the angle to the one he’d shown her was correct. Jax’s eyes widened then narrowed as they followed to her left hand as she brought it up.
“This is a message from your prospective Commanding Officer. Chief Petty Officer Jaxson Thomas, welcome back to the DEVGRU teams. If you choose to re-enlist, we could definitely use you.”
Jax’s face went white and his body jerked like it had when he took those bullets to the chest on the street. Fallon’s knees went weak as that memory flashed through her mind. His hand shook almost as badly as hers was as he reached up to take the envelope from her.
He sank to sit on the floor, before he opened the envelope and pulled out the thick stack of documents inside. After reading a minute, flipping through to the last page he studied it before he ran a hand over his face and sucked in a shuddering breath.
“Grant knows about this?” he asked gruffly, his eyes glistening.
“Your
former
CO is one of the
team
of people who helped us get this pushed through at the special request of Senator Greenwood, leader of the Senate Armed Forces Committee. Jon, Chris, Rick, Brody, and the rest of your teammates helped too.”
“Oh, my
God
…” he groaned, leaning his skull on his hand.
“That’s not all,” Anna said, pushing up off the sofa. “It looks like you’ve got choices to make.” She walked over to toss his cell phone on the floor at his feet. “Mom said this has been in the van for a month, which explains why you didn’t
answer
the fifty times I called. I turned it on and it went off like a slot machine.” Fallon watched Anna tick off items on her fingers. “Jon at GAPS got the shipping contract and wants you to call him ASAP—that was a text two weeks ago. Someone named Slade says he should have the Prince’s situation wrapped up soon, and he really needs you back now. Then there were three texts from Grant Milton wanting to know what you thought about the news. He wanted to tell you he put in a good word with your new CO.” Anna rolled her eyes then blew out a breath. “Thank goodness you didn’t get
those
or this visit would have been ruined. I thought SEALs were supposed to be good at keeping secrets?”
Jax still looked shell-shocked when he picked up his phone and scrolled through the missed texts and calls. Fallon felt uncomfortable not knowing what he was thinking or feeling about the situation. She thought he’d at least be excited about the honorable discharge, but he’d said nothing. Done nothing. No hug, no indication whatsoever that he had any feelings for her.
Fallon’s body deflated and her heart squeezed painfully in her chest, as she turned to walk around the coffee table to pick up her purse.
“Well, I guess you do have decisions to make, so I’ll just head back to Wash—” she said, but when she stood, Jaxson was right there in her face, his eyes intense.
“
We
have decisions to make,” he corrected, gripping her shoulders. He swallowed a few times, and a muscle ticked in his square jaw. “I am so damned grateful that you cared enough about my sorry ass to get this done for me.”
His words zipped down her spine and then swirled in the acid in her stomach. Gratitude is not what she wanted, but it looked like Jaxson just declared that’s what he was feeling.
Fallon shrugged. “It was the right thing to do—I just fixed what I helped break,” she replied, her voice choked. Lowering her eyes to fight the burn there, Fallon stepped away and moved around him. “Good luck with whatever you decide, Jax. It was good seeing you, but I need to get back on the road.”
Her hand closed around the doorknob at the same time his hand closed on her arm. “I told you I don’t
need
luck. I’m a fucking Navy SEAL, and I take what I want, babycakes,” he growled. Spinning her around to face him, Jaxson shoved her back into the door, and his finger tilted her chin upward. “I want
you
Fallon Sharpe—forever and a day.” His mouth was already in motion toward hers and Fallon whimpered. Jax made one slow, delicious pass over her mouth then hovered there. “I love you, babycakes.”
“Is that a Navy SEAL’s version of a proposal?” Fallon asked, her voice shaking, because her body was too. “Because if it is, my answer is
Oo
rah!”
Jaxson frowned and Fallon knew she’d evidently gotten it wrong, or misheard Grant.
“Unless you want marry a
Marine
, which I couldn’t let you do—that’s Hoo
yah
!” Jaxson tsked and his grin melted her insides. “Damn, I’ve got a lot to teach you before you can become a proper Navy wife.” His eyes dropped to her mouth, and his lips fused with hers in a real kiss.
Fallon looked forward to learning everything the man she loved had to teach her, things she knew she wouldn’t find in any book, only through hands-on experience.
EPILOGUE
The view of the blood red full moon was magnificent from their wide hammock on the beach on Mustang Island. The glowing orb rested right on top of the horizon and lit the whitecaps like sparkling diamonds. The calming swoosh of the waves breaking on shore, the distant bird chatter and the peace of the ocean were things Jax hadn’t had time to stop and appreciate in a long time. He’d been on plenty of beaches, under more than one full moon, but he hadn’t ever had time to just appreciate the beauty and soak up the peace. The sexy moonlight also bathed his gorgeous wife’s bikini-clad body making his mouth water.
“God, I’m glad everyone is gone so I can finally have you to myself,” Jax growled, turning to skim his hand up Fallon’s silky stomach to her breast while he kissed a trail up to her earlobe, which earned him a throaty moan.
“I could stay here forever,” she replied in a breathy whisper.
As long as she was right here beside him, and only her, Jax could stay here forever too. “I thought our families
would
stay here forever,” he grumbled against her throat, sliding his thumb under the edge of her bikini top to stroke the underside of her breast. He saw her bikini top rise with her puckered nipple, felt the goosebumps he raised on her skin.
Jax had never had a woman respond to him like she did, and he fucking loved it. Loved her. And thanked God that she loved him.
Until this sassy, smart and sexy redhead stumbled back into his life he hadn’t realized just how colorless it had become. The ring he’d put on her finger today in that little chapel on the hill, and the one she’d slipped on his, said his life would never be dull again.
“Well, I’m glad they all came…especially my mother and sister, considering the mess my father left them.”
“I’m sorry, babycakes,” Jax said tensing.
She put her hand on his forearm, and tingles skated up his arm. “This is our honeymoon, and I don’t want to ruin it. Hopefully the estate sale for some of the contents will pay off the house, since the insur—” she started, but Jaxson put his finger over her lips.
Since the insurance wouldn’t pay out because he’d committed suicide
. Her father hanging himself in the holding cell at the police station, after being arrested for bribery, had definitely been selfish. But then that’s the way the man had evidently lived his entire life, why should his death be different? He was so small-minded he’d let two women, Fallon’s mother and sister continue to spend frivolously, live a lifestyle he couldn’t afford, because he thought it made him look good to his political cronies. Jaxson wasn’t saying that to her though. Fallon would come to that conclusion herself eventually.
“Stop worrying—everything will work out.” Jax knew he was wasting his breath telling her not to worry, but he said it anyway.
His new wife worried about everything. He thought she would have a nervous breakdown before she settled on Texas for their wedding, but that was just the beginning. Texas was a big state, so there were so many choices of locations to have the beach wedding she wanted. That tiny chapel on the hill and the cozy honeymoon bungalow behind them is what finally convinced her to put a deposit down on this slice of paradise on Mustang Island. Her new boss, the chief judge at the district courthouse where she’d be working in Dallas was thrilled when she asked him to officiate. Problems solved, right?
No—Fallon moved on to what they would serve their guests for the reception dinner on the beach, where she could rent the huge tent and tables. It went on and on until about five hours ago when they finally, finally exchanged their vows.
It had all been worth it though—Jaxson could not imagine a woman being more beautiful than Fallon Sharpe as she walked up those stairs in that candlelight colored dress to become his wife. Just thinking of it now made his throat close.
“I really loved meeting your Deep Six friends and I think they were excited that you’re going back. Slade is nice, and I loved his dog.” Fallon gasped when Jax’s thumb raked her nipple under her top.
He was excited about the new assignment Slade had talked to him about too, but he wanted Fallon to stop talking and start kissing. He’d waited entirely too long to taste those luscious lips again. Licking a trail up her neck to her earlobe earned him a soft mewl. When he nipped the lobe of her ear, a shiver moved through her into him. The hammock swayed as she shifted her position to slide her leg over his thigh.
Now, that’s more like it, Jax thought, shifting too so he could fit his painful erection into the crevice at the top of her thighs. Making love to her out here in the moonlight would be erotic, tantalizing, but he’d seen their neighbors a few bungalows down unloading their kids and groceries a little while ago.
“I think you’re getting a little too hot out here, Mrs. Thomas,” he said, with a grin, and she shivered again as he smoothed his hand between them to slide it up the inside of her thigh to her heat. “You’re very fair, so you shouldn’t stay out on the beach too long.”
“Moonburn?” she asked, with a laugh.
“I have it on personal authority you can’t ever be too careful with those full moons, babycakes.” But Jax would never be wary of one again, he thought, glancing at the darkened bungalow down the beach, before sliding his fingers into her wetness and covering her mouth to swallow her moan.
He’d met and married the love of his life on a full moon.

But Dave Logan is on his honeymoon and leaves Slade right where he doesn’t want to be. Things go from bad to worse very quickly when a prince’s son is kidnapped, and Deep Six is on the verge of losing its biggest security contract on his watch.
The head of security at the hotel gets fired over the incident and Slade thinks teaming up with small, but feisty Taylor Kincaid to find the boy is smart. As the situation unravels though, he sees that there is a lot more to it than meets the eye and Taylor could be in just as much trouble as the missing child. When the full picture becomes clear however, Slade realizes they are all in trouble and he has some tough choices to make that could cost him the only woman he’d even considered allowing himself to love in a very long time.
