CHAPTER ELEVEN

Tobias

I tossed again and sighed. My eyes snapped open. There was no way I was going to be able to sleep. Pushing back the sheets, I slipped out of the huge bed and pulled back on my t-shirt and jeans before leaving the room. Hayden had said he’d give me a tour later, but my curiosity was eating at me. I hadn’t been lying when I’d said I hadn’t expected a cave out in the middle of nowhere but no way had I been expecting
this.
His house was a serious case of don’t judge the inside by the outside. I trailed through the house, my footsteps muffled by the plush carpet. It was a lot deeper than it looked on the outside and I counted more than five bedrooms upstairs alone. The house was definitely a man’s house. Most of the furniture made of beautifully polished, burnished wood and everything else in navy, cream and grays. I ran my hand over the smooth banister of the staircase as I trailed down to the ground floor. The big archway beckoned me forward on my left and I found myself in a sprawling kitchen with French doors looking out onto a spacious backyard. The marble countertop was cool beneath my fingers as I drummed them over the smooth veined surface and then I was in front of the huge refrigerator wondering if I should get something ready for Hayden when he came back when I heard the doorbell peal through the house.

I stilled, my hand on the refrigerator handle. Who the hell was at the door at this time of morning? I wasn’t sure if I should answer it, but whoever they were, they sure as hell were persistent. They didn’t get Jehovah’s Witnesses out here, did they? The next ring was followed by a knock.

“Damn it.” I moved to the door and froze as a feeling of unease slid down my spine.

My hand curled at my side as I moved to take a step back, but then the knock came again, more insistent this time.

Gritting my teeth, I pulled the door open and glared up at the annoying stranger when out of nowhere, Hayden’s large imposing body barreled in front of me.

“What are you doing here, Roman?” There was no mistaking the controlled anger in Hayden’s voice as he shielded me behind him.

“I wanted to make sure you got back safely, with your mate.” I’d known straight away that the man wasn’t entirely human and the way he spoke about me being Hayden’s mate proved it.

“I was going to give you a call when I got back from seeing the other alphas.” Hayden no longer sounded as angry, but he didn’t move from in front of me either—as though he didn’t want the other man to get anywhere near me. I would have been pissed by his highhanded actions, but there was something about the man that didn’t sit well with me. A feeling of danger and fear continued to snake through me.

“Has he truly forgotten about his past?” Black eyes swept over me, the look in them contemplating and I instinctively moved closer to Hayden’s back.

“We’ll talk about it later, Roman. Right now I want to spend time with my mate who still looks exhausted.”

The man named Roman didn’t look pleased, but he nodded and turned to leave. Hayden closed the door behind him.

“Who was that man?” I asked as Hayden leaned against the door and pulled me into his arms. He buried his face in my hair and inhaled, drinking in my scent. His arms tightened almost crushingly around me before he pressed a kiss to my mouth and released me. He was still frowning but at my question he looked down at me sadly.

“I thought even if you had no recollection of me—of us—you might remember someone else from your past. Roman is my cousin; he was almost my second-in-command. He’s the one I had searching for you these last five years.”

My heart twisted at the raw pain in Hayden’s green eyes. I might have forgotten him, but he remembered every moment of our time together and the fact that those memories were lost to me had never felt as painful as it did in this moment. I couldn’t even begin to imagine what he must have been feeling these five years as he searched for me. I moved back into his arms and wrapped mine tight around him as I buried my cheek against his hard chest.
I’m so sorry.
I wasn’t sure if I was apologizing to him or to the both of us for what we’d lost.

“What matters is that I have you here now, with me,” he said gruffly as though hearing my thoughts. He returned my embrace and I opened up as he leaned down and slanted his mouth against mine.

My head and chest filled with him as I kissed him back, sharing the intimacy we’d built up over the last three days.

He laughed as we broke apart and my stomach rumbled. “Let’s get you something to eat.”

I sat at the counter as I watched Hayden slap together a pile of sandwiches. I’d offered to help but he’d just smiled and directed me to take a seat on the tall bar stool I was currently perched atop.

“That looks good,” I said, trying not to drool as he cut the sandwiches into triangles and pushed half the stack towards me. “Tastes even better, too,” I said with a groan after I’d hungrily devoured the top one.

He eyed me. “Good. You need to eat more, especially now that you’re pregnant.”

I froze as his words hit me. Shit, how could I have forgotten? I swallowed my mouthful and took a drink from the glass of orange juice he’d poured me earlier. “Are you sure I’m pregnant? I mean I’m trying to believe that your men can have kids, but it’s only been three days.”

Hayden set down his half eaten sandwich and pulled my hand into his. His thumb swept across the top of my hand, caressing it. “I can smell the change in your scent, but if you want we can go see Seamus. He’s the resident doctor.”

My stomach clenched. I nodded. There would be no denying it after the check-up with the doctor. I briefly wondered if the werewolf doctor even had the necessary qualifications.

Again, as though he heard my thoughts, Hayden answered, “Seamus is the best were-doctor in the state. He’s had over two centuries of experience and has a medical license. Several. Although most of them have expired by now.”

I looked at him skeptically.

He shrugged and picked up another sandwich and held it to my lips, waiting for me to take a bite. “It’s hard to renew his license when he doesn’t seem to age.”

I grinned and took a bite of the proffered triangle before taking it in my own hand and finishing it off. It still seemed surreal but there was no longer any point in denying this was all real when it was clear that I wasn’t dreaming or going loony.

Hayden picked up his half-eaten sandwich.

“You haven’t explained the dream thing to me yet,” I pointed out. I hadn’t seen him again in my dreams since he’d turned up at my work and declared me his.

“I’m not really sure how it works,” Hayden said carefully. “I’ve never heard of it happening to any other wolf. But it’s always been there between us.”

I mulled over his words. “How come I didn’t see you in them before this month? And I haven’t seen you since you showed up.”

It was stronger when you were younger, then as you got older it only happened when we were apart and you couldn’t see me. I don’t know why it never worked in the last five years when I wanted to find you so desperately, but maybe it started up again because your wolf needed to find me.”

I frowned. “I don’t have a wolf, though—I can't shift.”

Hayden smiled. “You have a wolf. Just because you can’t shift doesn’t mean your wolf’s not inside of you. I can feel him. He calls to mine.”

“What does it feel like?” I asked curiously. “Having another person—self—inside of you.”

“Crowded,” Hayden laughed before he smiled gently at me. “Natural. Like you being with me. Just like you’re the other half of my soul, my wolf is the other half of my being, like yours is to you.”

I blushed at his words, and ducked my head as I picked up another sandwich. The pile didn’t seem to be shrinking at all. Forget the pregnancy, he was going to make me fat on food.

“You’re my soulmate, Tobias,” Hayden said softly as he cupped my chin and gently tilted my face back up to his. “I’m not whole without you, we were born to be together. I know you feel it, even though you can’t remember.”

I bit down on my lower lip as I felt something burst and surge up. Yes, he was right. I couldn’t explain it, but the part of me that wasn’t overthinking things knew it instinctively. “I feel it.”

“I love you, mate,” Hayden said as he brushed his lips over mine before settling back. He urged me to continue eating, and I did so finding myself suddenly ravenous.

We polished off the rest of our plates while he told me about his—our—pack members. I was interested in meeting Seth and his pups and told him so.

“We’ll see when he’s free and go pay them a visit,” Hayden promised as he pulled me from my seat and headed back up to the bedroom. “I missed you, mate,” he rumbled against my ear as he slipped his hands up my t-shirt and flicked calloused thumbs over my nipples.

I shivered against him and moaned softly, my cock hardening instantly. “You weren’t gone that long.”

“Long enough. And I’ll always miss you when you’re not by my side, whether it’s for a moment or longer.”

My heart tightened at his words and I felt the sensation of falling. I was falling for Hayden and I knew it wouldn’t be long before I gave him my whole heart. But if what he’d been saying was true—and I no longer doubted it was—then my heart had always been his to begin with. I’d only be returning it to its rightful place.

CHAPTER TWELVE

Tobias

I didn’t resist when he slipped off my t-shirt and then my jeans were coming off and I was naked in his arms, my cock rubbing against the thick outline of his.

“You’re overdressed,” I said as I reached up to push his leather jacket from his broad shoulders. I moaned and nearly swallowed my tongue as he reached for the hem of his black t-shirt and pulled it up and off his head, his muscles bunching and rippling with the movement.

I leaned forward and pressed a kiss to the bottom of his throat as I reached out and ran my hands over the hard planes of his torso. His skin was taut, smooth and warm beneath my hands, and I curled my fingers against him as I trailed my mouth down his chest. He tasted slightly salty and I could hear the tattoo of his heartbeat, was aware of the raw masculinity and his iron self-control as I trailed kisses and licks over his tight, ridged abs and moved towards the thick cock pressing against the front of his jeans. The fly came undone with the flick of my fingers and then I was staring hungrily at his turgid cock as need surged through me.

“Mate,” Hayden hissed as I wrapped my hand around the thick base of him and pressed wet kisses up the length of his cock. His hands came up, landing on my shoulders and sliding in and up my neck as he threaded his hands through my hair. They tightened as I reached the tip and swiped my tongue over the wet slit, lapping up the salty, musky taste of him.

The growling sounds he made as I sealed my lips over the bulbous head shot straight down to my own cock and I wriggled on my knees, my own slit leaking as I worshipped his cock.

“Toby, mate, your mouth is so sweet,” Hayden groaned as I suckled and kissed him, swirling my tongue over the blunt helmet and running it beneath the ridge. The last three and days had been an intensive crash course and I made use of what I’d learned about pleasuring him as I savored the feel and taste of him in my mouth.

I cupped his balls, palming the heavy sacs in my hands as I hollowed out my cheeks and bobbed up and down on his cock, taking him in faster and deeper with every downward stroke. I moaned as his flavor got more intense, and then I was falling back and looking up at him with dazed eyes as Hayden pulled out of my mouth and slid his arms beneath mine.

“I can’t wait any longer. I’m not going to finish down your throat, mate. I want to be in you, your ass gripping tightly around me when I do,” he growled as he tossed me onto the bed and followed me down onto it.

I moaned and opened my mouth as he kissed me hard, sweeping his tongue in to curl around mine. I was gasping for breath, my hips rocking frantically against his when he pulled his mouth off and trailed his lips down my chest. “Open up, Tobias.”

I did so obediently and suckled on the fingers he stroked against my tongue. The long, thick digits were slightly salty and I curled my tongue against them bathing them thickly in my saliva knowing what Hayden was planning to do with them. I wasn’t wrong when he withdrew them and I felt the wet tips against my rim.

“Open up for me, mate,” he said as he pushed in.

Even after all the fucking we’d done my body hesitated before I made myself relax. The two fingers slid in and I groaned, rocking up as he stroked and pumped them in me, preparing me for his thick cock.

“I’m ready,” I moaned, unable to wait any longer as my fingers and toes curled into the silky sheets. “Hayden, please.”

“Fuck, if you could only see how damn sexy and irresistible you look, writhing on my bed, your skin flushed and eyes nearly blue and glazed with need.” He crooked his fingers in me, brushing over my prostate and making me melt, before withdrawing his fingers and drinking me in with dark, hooded eyes.

“Not irresistible enough if you’re still talking and your dick isn’t anywhere near in me,” I huffed as I lifted my leg and hooked it around his waist, trying to pull him to me. He was damn unmovable.

Hayden grinned before reaching over to lift my leg and pressed a kiss to my inner thigh. I shivered at his proximity to my straining cock.

“So impatient,” he admonished gruffly before hooking both my knees over his shoulders and dragging me down the bed.

I sighed, wriggling and grinning as I felt the leaking tip of his cock nudge at my hole. “I want you, Hayden,” I said softly, the plea unmistakable in my voice.

With a groan, Hayden pressed forward and sank into my body, opening me up until he was buried to the hilt. We both moaned as he rocked against me, giving me a moment to get accustomed to his thick girth and long length before starting to move. His green eyes never left mine as he began to fuck me, slow and deliberate, every thrust of his body claiming me and locking tighter the bond between us. He leaned forward, nearly bending me in half as he braced his hands on either side of me and pressed a kiss against my mouth. His thrusts sped up, his brow furrowing as he pounded harder and faster into me and then I was clinging to him and crying his name as I came hard and felt my world splinter apart. I felt Hayden join me, his body pumping into mine and filling it with his seed, marking me.

When everything came back together, I was laying in Hayden’s arms, limp and sated as he held me like I was something all too precious.

We lay like that for several moments, my head nestled on his arm and face buried in the curve of his neck, the silence between us comfortable.

“What happened to me five years ago, Hayden?” I asked, breaking the quiet. I wanted to know now, wanted to start piecing back together the fragments of my past.

Hayden’s arm, wrapped over my waist, tightened and he rubbed his cheek against my hair. When he answered his voice was soft and strained. “I don’t really know. I was out, in the city, that day. When I returned, the house you were living in with Michael was already burning to the ground, and there was nothing but—”

“Michael?” I pulled back and frowned as I looked up at Hayden. “Michael was a werewolf?”

It was Hayden’s turn to frown. “You remember Michael?”

I reeled as shock tore through me. “He was old with black longish hair and light blue eyes? Had a scar above his left eyebrow?”

I didn’t even wince as Hayden’s hand suddenly gripped down tight on my arm, his eyes wide. “How do you remember Michael?”

I shook my head as the last five years rocked over me. “I lived with him up to a year ago.”
