Damon weighed the pros and cons as he set off down the sidewalk toward his duplex and pulled the phone from his pocket. He had turned the ringer off when Gerry started to play back the recording of Toma Ljubic. There was a message waiting. He pressed a button on the keypad and Bethany’s voice filled his ear.

“Hi Damon. It’s Bethany. I’m sorry about cancelling the other night. Give me a call and let’s get together and do something soon.”

Damon smiled, shook his head in confusion, then smiled again as he walked home.
