It seems that he had.

Mike
had loaded the gun, and Mike had pointed it. But how could he have predicted that
incredible result? Martin had fallen in love with Debra Berger and they, like some
sort of modern Romeo and Juliet, had run off together.

Mike
had done a good thing, for a bad reason – revenge. Yet so much real good had come
out of it. What sort of lesson was he supposed to take from that? Mike frowned,
considering.

Maybe
I've simply been a means to an end? A useful pawn in the bigger picture?

Either
way, what was done was done. All was well that ended well.

I
still believe in karma,
Mike decided with a laugh
as he walked back toward the house where Marcy waited for him.
What goes
around does come around… even if karma sometimes gets a little help along the
way.
