Christian kissed and nipped at my skin as my head was thrown back, and I was submersed in feelings of pleasure. With each thrust, our bodies became slick with sweat. I was climbing closer, and I felt he was almost there, with every deep grind of his hips. Christian pulled me down on the mattress by my neck. I instinctively wrapped my legs around his waist as he held himself up on his knees. He ground himself into me while gripping my hips. His pace quickened, and soon he was slamming into me. I pulled at the sheet, holding the fabric with clenched fists and moaning, begging for more.

“Oh, God, Christian, I’m close.” I panted.

He lowered his mouth to my breast and circled his teeth around it, gently biting down and sucking all at once. I came with full force as he rammed deeper into me while his damp forehead rested between my breasts. Christian’s groans became louder before following behind me. I felt his kiss on my skin before he pulled out slowly and walked to the bathroom. In a sedated state, I moved to the top of the bed and waited for him to return. I wasn’t aware I had fallen asleep until the warmth of his naked body pressed against mine, waking me up.

“Shh, it’s okay, go back to sleep,” he whispered, pulling me to snuggle on his side. I smiled hazily before kissing his chest. I wrapped my leg over his, making him chuckle before we both fell asleep.

Chapter Thirty-Five

Christian

Last night was beautifully unexpected. If I thought I knew what good sex was, last night blew all that out the window. And if I was uncertain of my feelings for her, making her mine was the confirmation I
didn’t
need. Which was making this very moment too difficult to handle. I needed something to bring to the table until I had a chance to bust Connor all on my own without fishing for information from Billie. I could have easily asked Marquis for help, but that meant I would be in debt to him once again. I’d been awake for a while as I watched her sleep in my arms. When she stirred, there was a smile on her face like she knew I’d been watching her.

“How long have you been awake?” she croaked, her sweet voice full of sleep.

“I’m not sure. A while.”

“And you’ve been staring at me this whole time?”

“Mm-hm.” I shifted to get on top of her and in between her warm thighs. Initially my intentions were to speak to her about her family’s criminal activities, but having her awake, soft, and naked next to me did things to me.

“What are you doing?” she teased in a breathy whisper as I planted wet open mouthed kisses on her neck. Billie gasped when my dick pressed against her.

“What do you think?”

She arched her back when I flicked her nipple with my tongue, and moaned when I sucked on it. My eyes snapped open when I felt her fingers around my cock and wetness at the tip. I let her breast pop out of my mouth as I lifted myself a little to look at her with hooded eyes. Fuck that felt fantastic.

“Babe…” I struggled to speak when she moaned some more and moved me faster around her clit. “Let me grab a…con…dom.”

“Just the tip,” she said. “Let me feel you without anything…” She panted. “Just for a little while.” My head was spinning with her honeyed pleading moans and the sexy sounds she was making. Not to mention how close I was to her wet warm entrance. I was finding it hard to think logically. I could very easily move an inch and slide completely inside of her.

“Are you asking to get pregnant?” I murmured. She was breathing faster as her movements quickened, and I threw my head back, praying to God for some strength.

“Please, baby…just a little?” This was an entirely different Billie. She was enticing in a different way, needy and
insatiable
. A man only had so much willpower before he gave in.

“Billie, sweetheart, let’s be smart abouuu—” My eyes fluttered closed as did my mouth when she slipped me inside. She was snug. Hot, soft, and wet. She felt like nirvana, like a warm blanket covering my entire being. “Aw, fuck, baby.” I wheezed, thrusting on instinct.

“Oopsie,” she whispered, lifting herself to nip at my earlobe.

“You’re the devil, you know that?”

“Yeah, sure, whatever, just keep doing what you’re doing.”

I tried to laugh, but was stupefied when she moved underneath me, matching my movements.

“I’m not…coming…inside of you.” I gulped in uneven breaths.

“No shit. Just pull out.” There she was. This time, I managed to chuckle, rolling my hips against her and zapping that smug smile off her face. She whimpered in response, biting down on her bottom lip and clenching the sheet on either side of her hips. My movements were slow and tormenting, almost like punishing her for making me lose my mind. Billie whispered pleasing words like,
more, faster,
and
I’m so close
with every kiss, every touch and every move I made
.

When she came, her muscles squeezed and released me as she trembled. I slammed harder against her, feeling my release seconds away. I groaned when I came, pulling out just in time. Coming all over her stomach, unintentionally. Well, almost. My breathing was strenuous, but it felt like I had almost forgotten how to breathe entirely. Billie propped herself on her elbows and touched her belly. Inspecting it, like she’d never seen come before.

“Hmm, well, this is a first.”

“I’ve claimed you as mine now,” I said. “Don’t ever forget that.” I kissed her nose. Jumping off the bed, I bent down to pick her up. She squealed, careful not to move too much. “Shower time.”

The shower took longer than expected. I was washing myself when Billie grabbed my hand and put it between her legs.

“Baby, I need more time before I can fuck you again.”

Needy Billie was back, and she was my favorite so far. She pouted. I had to guess she wasn’t used to wanting sex this much in her past relationships.

“So, your mouth and fingers need some time too?” she snapped, and I smirked.

Nope, Mouthy Billie was still my favorite. As any man would do, I used my mouth and fingers on my girl. Fuck, I wasn’t going to say no to a needy, feisty Billie, not while she was wet and naked in front of me. I wouldn’t say no to her, regardless. This girl had me wrapped around her finger, but I wasn’t going to tell her that. When we were dressed and dry, sitting across from each other at our favorite diner, the weight of what I had to do fell on my shoulders.

“Have you ever met any of your dad’s contacts?” I asked while taking a piece of cantaloupe to my mouth. Billie’s eyebrows inched to her scalp while she looked at me with a smirk.

“Why are you asking?”

My throat felt like gravel. I had to force the fruit down. “Just curious how he’s never managed to get caught.”

Billie’s lips widened she wiped her mouth with a napkin before sitting back in her seat. “What makes you think he hasn’t?”

I cocked my head to the side, surprised by her response.

Billie chuckled. “Chris, Don is the sharpest, most cunning man you will ever meet. He has dirt on
everyone,
and through the years he’s made more friends than he has enemies. Only the stupidest of people would try to go against him.”

My stomach dropped to the floor. I wasn’t afraid for myself; I was afraid of what Don might do to my mom in retaliation if I managed to get him locked up. But I didn’t want to pin
him
down. It was Connor who I intended to put away.

Billie’s smile stayed put throughout our entire meal. I thought it was because of my awkward questions and how that reminded her of the beginning and the conversations we used to have. Afterward, we stopped by my apartment so I could pick up some clothes and drove back to her place until my shift started. Billie was off tonight.

We sat in her nearly empty living room on the couch. I leaned back, lying down. Her back was pressed against my stomach and her head on my chest. I ran my fingers through her coffee colored tresses until I thought of a brilliant idea and decided to teach myself how to braid hair while she spoke about her experiences in college. I failed, and my fingers ended up tangled in her hair. When I grumbled and pulled my hand away, she giggled.

“No luck?”

“It’s harder than it looks.” I picked up her hand, holding it in mine. I ran my thumb across the soft skin on her wrist and fingers. “Sing to me.”

“On one condition.”

“Jesus Christ, woman, you’re going to kill me!”

Billie laughed, turning herself so her stomach was in between my legs.

“Not that, not until later,” she replied. I smirked.

“What then?”

“We dance.” She beamed and my heart did a little dance of its own.

“Okay, you sing then we dance.” She climbed on top of me, then looked off into space as she tapped her finger against her lips. Then she cleared her throat before she started singing. Instantly, her song choice grabbed my attention. She’d chosen “Criminal” by Fiona Apple. There were some parts I smiled at, and others that made me frown, confused if they held a deeper meaning to her. This was an older song, and I was dying to know why she selected it. When she finished, she laughed at the intrigued and puzzled look on my face.

“You didn’t like it?”

“I’m curious to know why you picked it,” I replied, lifting her off of me so I could stand. Taking my phone out of my pocket, I pressed the shuffle button on my playlist before setting it against a corner of the wooden floor, so the sound of the music would be amplified.

“Because,” she replied, standing in front of me and gripping my waist. “That’s how I feel sometimes.”

“Like a criminal?”

“Sort of. I miss the rush sometimes. Being with you makes me feel guilty about it because I know that’s something you’re against.”

I nodded, taking her into my arms when the song started to pick up.

“I get it, babe.”

“You do?” she said, while swaying her hips like I taught her to. I grinned, and then pulled back.

“This is Salsa. It’s danced differently than Bachata.”

She nodded, eagerly waiting for her lesson.

“Start with both feet together, then as I step forward with my left, you’ll step back with your right, as you lift the heel of your left foot. Pause,” I instructed. “Step backward on your right foot, bringing your feet back together, pausing again before repeating the steps with the opposite foot, matching it with the sway of your hips.”

I stepped forward to see if she understood, and when she followed my instructions, I smiled with pride. She was a quick study. We practiced the steps until she wasn’t looking down at her feet anymore. When she was confident enough, I palmed her upper back while she gripped my arm, then held her other hand in mine. Billie laughed when I did a twirl move; she tripped a little over her steps before finding her center again.

“Okay, try that again. I think I can bounce back quicker this time,” she said, determined. And when I did, she found her steps like a pro.

“Want to try a different one?”

She grinned, nodding.

“This time I’m going to spin you while holding your neck, and you’ll circle around me once.” Billie bit her bottom lip with a curt nod in understanding. I spun her once, and then gently gripped her neck, easily maneuvering her around me. When she landed in front of me, she continued her steps without missing a beat. She stopped suddenly then squeaked, throwing herself in my arms.

“That was so much fun!”

I laughed, pulling her over my shoulder, and Billie squealed when I smacked her ass.

“What are you doing?”

“Time for some naked horizontal dancing.”

Billie giggled.

Work was dragging along tonight, with Jade and I training Talon. It should have kept my mind off Billie, but it didn’t. Luckily, Talon was keeping up and catching on pretty quickly. His leg didn’t seem to bother him and he wasn’t complaining about it, which made me respect him more.

Claudia was on him like he was made out of honey and she was a bee. Although I felt bad for him, I was relieved her attention was no longer on me. Tonight, I’d received three texts from Roman and two from the detectives, both asking me if I’d gotten anything from Billie. Roman kept telling me he couldn’t go back to jail. Adding insult to injury, he sent me a picture of him and my mom making tamales.
Fucking douchebag.

“Hey, Chris, there’s a customer that just complained about a toilet in the men’s bathroom being clogged.”

I was popping off three beer caps and handing them to regulars when Jade came to let me know.

“All right, thanks. Cover for me, yeah?” I replied, waving goodbye to some customers who were leaving.

“You got it, boss.”

I headed to the employee locker room where we kept a lot of the cleaning supplies and plunger. Before I entered, I bullshitted with Jaime, and he threw up his dukes, playfully jabbing left to right while I weaved out of his way. We laughed it off like we always did. Then I grabbed the plunger kit, bleach, and some paper towels just in case I needed them. When I entered the men’s bathroom, a regular was washing his hands. He was here almost every day, but I hadn’t gotten a chance to serve him, so I didn’t know his name. I jerked my head at him.

“How you doing, man?”

He smiled almost like he was keeping a secret, then pointed at the end stall. I nodded in thanks, then grimaced when my back was to him.
All right, then.

I inspected the damage as I heard the bathroom door close. The creepy dude must have left. Inside the toilet bowl, a ball of paper towels looked like they had been forced down. I was working the plunger against the toilet, splashing around the water—good thing I’d brought cleaning supplies with me—when the fire alarm went off.
What the hell?

Dropping my tools, I rushed to the door to see what was going on, but when I went to push the door open it wouldn’t budge. I chuckled, thinking Jade or Jaime was playing around.

“All right, guys, not funny,” I called out.

Silence. The alarm continued to sound, and when I pressed my ear to the door I heard screaming and shouting. My heart picked up, and my stomach turned. I pushed against the door harder, slamming into it with my shoulders, but it wasn’t moving. I panicked as smoke started seeping into the crack under the door. Instinct kicking in, I banged over and over against the door, but I was trapped. I didn’t know what was going on, who was screaming, and why.
