“Sure, sure.” The man pulled keys from his pocket. “We’ll back up here and let you through.”

The shoulders were narrow, and the huge trucks blocked the entire road. There was a ditch on each side, and Parker wasn’t confident about taking the bike into one of them. He smiled. “Great. Thanks.” Maybe it would be okay and they could just go on their way.

The guy pivoted by the truck. “Say, that’s a fine ride you boys have there.”

Shit
. “Um, thanks. We really should keep moving.” Adam was vibrating behind him, and Parker thought he could hear a low growl.

“Must come in handy having a bike, huh?” The man appeared only mildly interested, but Parker could feel the weight of other eyes on them as well.

The others came closer, too casually, and Parker’s gut clenched. “So, uh, like I said—”

“Get out of our way.” Adam’s guttural command hung in the air. “Now.”

All eyes turned to him as he stepped off the bike. He appeared still and calm, yet there was a menace pulsating in him that made the hair on Parker’s neck stand up. The others could clearly sense it too.

One of the men cleared his throat and spoke to the man in the road. “Joe, maybe we should let these fellas be on their way.”

Joe, the obvious leader, gritted his teeth, his gaze locked with Adam’s. “Sure. Just get off that bike and you’re free to go.”

Adam moved so quickly Parker barely knew what was happening as Joe was hurled into a tree, his shotgun flying in the other direction. There was a moment of stunned silence before the rest of the group cried out, the men disarmed and scattered with a roar. Adam’s fangs and claws were out, his eyes bright gold as the hair spread over his cheeks. He was still wearing the backpack with their gear, and Parker hoped he wouldn’t bust the straps.

The young woman had a gun in her raised hand, and it trembled violently. Parker aimed his pistol at her. “We just want to leave.”

Mouth agape, she stared at Adam and his extended claws. “Sweet Jesus.”

“Put the gun down,” Parker ordered.

Blinking, she lowered her arm as if she hadn’t realized the weapon was in her hand. She stared back and forth between Adam and Parker. “Sweet Jesus,” she repeated.

Parker gunned the engine. “Come on.”

Still wolfed out, Adam took the front of one of the trucks and gave it a mighty shove into the ditch. Then he climbed back onto the motorcycle behind Parker, pressing against him.

“Wait!” the woman cried. “Was that true what you said? About the light?”

“Yes,” Parker answered, his gun still trained on her just in case. “And don’t we have enough problems with the creepers without this bullshit?”

She nodded. “I’m sorry.”

He shoved the gun in his pocket and tore off down the road with Adam’s hot breath on his neck. Blood rushed in his ears, and the throbbing of the engine between his thighs went straight to his dick. He’d actually
held a gun
on someone, and he’d been so fucking afraid, but they’d made it. Those assholes didn’t know who they were dealing with. Parker realized he was
smiling
.

He put ten miles behind them before veering off on a dirt road. It was darker here, the trees growing close overhead, and they bounced along until the road ended at a lookout high above a lake. The sun was almost at the horizon, glowing orange and reflecting on the water below.

There were a hundred things Parker wanted to say as he jumped off Mariah and turned to Adam, whose fangs, claws, and extra hair had receded. But there was still something different about him as he came down from his transformation—a dark, dangerous rumble to him that made Parker want to hump his leg even more than usual.

“That was…you were…” Parker’s blood sang. There was so much adrenaline pumping through him that he thought he might burst.

Adam kept his gaze on his hands as he dismounted. “I know. I’m so ugly like that, but those people were—”

Parker launched himself at Adam, kissing him hard. “More like so fucking hot,” he muttered, hitching up one leg so he could
actually hump him
.

He swallowed Adam’s surprised yelp, and then Adam yanked him closer, shoving his thigh between Parker’s and gripping his ass. They were all tongues and teeth as they kissed messily, hands all over each other. Lust burned through Parker, and he gasped for air. Denim rubbed together as they got hard.

“I want you so much,” Parker mumbled. He unzipped his jacket, mindful of the gun in the pocket as he dropped the jacket to the ground. His gray tee was sweaty, and Adam lifted Parker’s arm so he could stick his face in his armpit. Maybe it should have been weird, but it made Parker feel good. With a groan, Adam gripped Parker’s hips.

“You want me?” He whispered in Adam’s ear, one hand tight in his hair. “You want to fuck me?” He’d never dirty talked like this before. With Greg he’d kept his mouth shut, afraid he’d say the wrong thing and make Greg mad. But with Adam, he felt free. So powerful. So
alive
. “Want to shove that big cock in me?”

Adam full-on growled, a low snarl of need and possession that made Parker leak in his boxers. With considerable effort, Parker pulled back an inch to speak. “Nothing around for miles, right? No people or creepers?”

Closing his eyes, Adam turned his head to both sides and inhaled deeply before blowing it out. “Nothing.”

“So, we could keep going. Or you could bend me over that picnic table.”

In a blink Adam hoisted Parker off his feet. He wrapped his legs around Adam’s waist and kissed him desperately as Adam strode to the table. Adam deposited him on top and tugged off the backpack, and they both moaned as they kissed again, rubbing together. Parker was so hard he thought he might come in his pants just from rutting. He gulped in a breath. “You need to fuck me now.” He shoved at Adam’s chest so he could stand at the side of the table and turn around.

He yanked at the zipper and button on his jeans and shoved them down with his boxers before pulling off his T-shirt and leaning over the wooden table. It hadn’t been painted in a few years, but was smooth enough, and he bunched the tee at his belly where he bent over the side.

Parker propped himself on his elbows and spread his legs as far as he could with his pants around his ankles. He glanced over his shoulder and found Adam with his own jeans and briefs down, his meaty cock hard and leaking in his grasp. But he seemed frozen, staring at Parker with parted lips.

“Do you want a written invitation or something?” Parker pushed his hips back.

Adam spread his palms over Parker’s ass, running them up to his shoulders. Goosebumps spread over Parker’s skin as the cool breeze flowed over him along with Adam’s fevered touch, and then Adam was kissing down his spine, his mouth hot and wet and open. Parker mumbled, “Yes, yes.”

He was so
exposed
, and even though he knew there was no one around, it still felt dangerously daring to be fucking out in the open with the setting sun warming them. In this moment, there were only the two of them in the world.

When Adam sank to his knees and buried his face in Parker’s ass, spreading him wide, Parker shuddered and cried out. Then Adam’s tongue was pushing inside him, and it was the greatest thing he’d ever felt. He’d never been rimmed before, and the way Adam ate him out was feral and almost unbearably intense.

Adam worked him open with his mouth, and Parker could only moan and flop down, his arms already giving out. He pressed his cheek to the table, and he might get splinters, but he didn’t fucking care because his ass was alive with pleasure. And they’d survived, and nothing else mattered.

He protested when Adam’s mouth left him, but he could hear Adam rummaging in their pack, and soon his slick finger pushed into Parker’s hole. Maybe he’d used the little bottle of conditioner Parker had lifted from the ranger station, but it didn’t really matter because he was working some kind of magic, easing his finger in farther and farther, and then squeezing a second one in too. Then a third. It burned, but he wanted more.

Parker had fingered himself plenty of times, but he’d only had a dick in his ass twice. He hadn’t come either time, since Greg Mason was an epic douche and hadn’t lasted more than two minutes—and had been out the door as soon as he’d tossed the condom.

He thought of Adam’s thick, uncut cock, and Parker’s mouth watered. “Please. Fuck me, Adam.”

He didn’t give a shit about condoms since they were both clean and Adam didn’t even get sick, and the world was a disaster area, so
fuck it
. He was alive now and he wanted this. He held his breath as Adam pushed inside, the stretch flaring into searing pain.

“Breathe,” Adam murmured, stroking Parker’s hair with one hand, the other tight on his hip.

Parker forced his lungs to expand, closing his eyes as he concentrated on
in and out, in and out.

Trembling, Adam inched inside. “Good,” he gritted out. He was clearly holding back as much as he could.

When he was all the way in, and Parker could feel his balls against him, Parker moved his hips experimentally and squeezed his butt muscles.

Groaning, Adam tightened his fingers in Parker’s hair. “Fuck. You’re so tight.”

“Do I feel good?” Parker craned his neck to see Adam’s face.

“Perfect.” Adam’s eyes gleamed and his lips were slack. “I need…God, Parker.”

“Do it. Fuck me.” The burning was fading, and Parker pushed back. “I want it. Want you.”

He didn’t have to ask twice, and Adam began thrusting, shallowly at first, and then he was going deeper with long, hard strokes. He still gripped Parker’s hair, and Parker loved it, the feeling of being held down, of being filled so completely. His dick had gone a little soft from the earlier pain, but now it was straining. “It feels so good. Want you to fuck me forever.”

Adam was panting, his hips slapping against Parker’s ass. On one of the strokes he rubbed against Parker’s prostate, and Parker cried out, making nonsensical noises that weren’t really words. There were sparks behind his eyes, actual bursts of color as Adam pounded him, and he was flushed and sweaty all over.

The mix of pleasure and pain had tipped firmly to the side of mind-blowing joy, and Parker heaved himself up on one elbow so he could jerk his cock. It only took three strokes before the tingling in his balls pin-wheeled through his body and he shot, his whole body shaking with the release.

All he could do was collapse back down as Adam continued thrusting with low moans. Parker’s mouth was dry, and he licked his lips as he looked back. “I wanna feel you come inside me. I want you to fill me up with everything you’ve got, and—”

Eyes blazing before he threw his head back, Adam came in long spurts. His hips stuttered with his release, and it was hot and deep inside Parker, and it felt like something they were meant to do—like his ass was made for Adam’s cum, and Adam was marking him the way animals did.

His breath hot and chest heaving, Adam bent over him, his dry lips gentle on the back of Parker’s neck as he ran his fingers through Parker’s sweat-damp hair. As the stars twinkled into view, they stayed slumped together with Adam still twitching inside him.

“Parker,” Adam breathed, and it sounded so tender. Parker reached for Adam’s hand, and they clasped their fingers together.

When Adam finally pulled out, Parker could feel the wetness dripping down his inner thighs. It should have been gross, but instead he found himself wondering how long they had to wait until they did it again. He shivered as Adam smoothed his fingers over his swollen hole, swirling the sticky mess around.

Adam cleaned him up with some kind of cloth—probably one of their T-shirts from the backpack—and pressed little kisses to Parker’s ass cheeks.

“Was it too rough?” His breath whispered across Parker’s skin, and he rubbed his hands up and down Parker’s legs.

Boneless, all Parker could say was the truth. “It was everything.”

CHAPTER TWELVE

THEY WERE IN the heart of the Nevada badlands when they passed a sign for Highway Fifty, proclaiming it:
The loneliest road in America
. Parker muttered, “Let’s hope so.” It lived up to its billing until a vehicle appeared on the horizon of the two-lane blacktop.

Parker squinted at the new addition to the landscape. The sun blazed overhead, and he was thankful they’d picked up sunglasses at an abandoned gas station. He called back to Adam. “People.”

“Yeah.”

They’d settled into a routine of taking turns driving, with Adam always driving in the dark so they could keep the headlight out. It was slower going than with a car since riding a motorcycle took more energy and focus, especially for Parker. They slept as little as they could and tried to make good time. Still, they’d hit mountains soon, and there was no telling how long it would take to make it across the country with all the potential threats in their path.

“Should we try to avoid them? Go off the road? Obviously they’ve seen us, but they can’t follow far. Looks like they’re in a minivan.”

“I guess we can’t avoid people forever,” Adam answered.

“Guess not. I hope this goes better than last time.”

“Would be hard for it to go worse.”

Parker groaned. “And now you jinxed it. Knock on wood!”

Adam reached up and rapped his knuckles on Parker’s skull.

“Ha, ha. You’re hilarious.”

He eased off on their speed as the minivan neared. It appeared to be slowing too, and halted about twenty feet away. Parker rolled to a stop, but kept the engine running. Through the minivan windshield he could see an older man and woman. They all watched each other uneasily, until Parker raised his hand and called out, “Hi.”

The couple exchanged a glance, and then the man in the passenger seat opened his door and stepped out. He wore a Tilley hat and a windbreaker over slacks, and Parker was struck by a memory of his grandpa heading out for a weekend sail. Grandpa had died years ago, but in that moment Parker missed him intensely.

The man waved. “Hello there.”

Adam remained silent and tense behind him, so Parker cleared his throat. “I’d ask how it’s going, but I don’t suppose it’s going much better for you than it is for us.”
