He
lowered her to the floor and pulled an envelope out of his suit jacket. She
hadn’t even realized how good he looked in a suit and tie, and her eyes
drifted, taking in the hard body covered in fancy material.

“You
look gorgeous yourself.” He grinned. “I’ll like it better when that black dress
that shows your curves so well is in the corner of my bedroom, but first I need
you to open this.”

She
took the envelope from him and pulled out a piece of paper. Her mouth dropped
open, and her eyes grew wide. “It’s a bearer bond.”

“The
bond is your reward. The people who owned the stolen bonds specifically
requested you receive this. It’s yours. You’ve earned it.”

“A
hundred thousand dollars, I don’t know what to say.”

“Thank
you,” he teased.

A
smile lifted the corners of her mouth. “Thank you.”

He
held up a finger. “One more thing.”

He
handed her another envelope.

“Is
it as good as envelope number one?” she giggled.

“I
think so.”

She
pulled a thick piece of paper out. “It’s a deed for a building on

Princess Anne Street
.”

“Read
whose name is on the deed.”

“Old
Town Detective Agency.” Pamela looked at Jake. “Who’s
Old
Town
?”

Jake
smiled.

Pamela’s
eyes widened. “You’re
Old
Town
?”

“Yes.”

“So
you’re not traveling overseas anymore?” Her heart pounded against her chest.

“Only
if you’re with me.” He grabbed her waist and pulled her into his arms. “You
have one more thing to open.”

Pamela
followed his gaze to a redwood box on the bar.
Where had that come from?
She lifted the box and gently opened the
lid. A purple velvet box nestled inside a soft pillow. Her eyes flicked on his.

He
removed the velvet box.

Pamela
gasped as he revealed the contents, tears spilling from her eyes.

“Accepting
a freelance position with my old boss to surveil his friend’s daughter is the
best decision I ever made. That’s the day I found my soul mate, the day I found
my future.” Jake took the ring out of the box and knelt on one knee in front of
her.

Pamela’s
lips quivered.

He
looked up at her. “The moment your body collided with mine, I knew.”

She
summoned a small smile and caressed his jaw.

Jake
raised her left hand, kissed her palm, then held her hand. His gaze bored into
hers. “I love you, Pamela Ann Young. Will you marry me?”

Her
heart kicked up, her insides melted, and her pulse skittered beneath her skin.

“Oh
Jake, I’ve already said yes once.”

He
cocked an eyebrow.

“Yes,
Jake Tyler Gibson, I’ll marry you.”

He
stood and pushed the emerald-cut diamond ring on her finger then pulled her to
him as his mouth closed over hers.

Pamela’s
hands sailed over his body, squeezing him, feeling him, and making sure he was
real, and not a dream she conjured up. “I love you, Jake. I love you.”

They
heard a sudden thunder clap behind them followed with laughter. Jake and
Pamela, still holding each other, twisted their heads. The Band of Friends
along with Donald and Marge smiled at them, yelling, “Congratulations!”

She
turned to her future husband. “You planned this?”

“I
did.” He squeezed her tighter. “I love you, Pamela.” She heard him whisper as
his lips found hers.
