She walked toward another table, even farther away.
“Yep.”

“That’s a lot of working for summer break.” I was
suddenly feeling lazy in my idle slash partying lifestyle. And sitting here
while she worked around me only added to my indolent feelings. Pushing off the
window sill I followed her across the room.

With her back to me Maya shrugged. “Summer’s the time
where I can work more and save up money. I only work on the weekends during
school.” She turned with a half-smile, but at seeing that I’d walked up right
behind her, and was two feet away from her, that smile slipped slightly and her
eyes widened nervously. She spun around and began removing the next tables’
nick-knacks.

I smiled at observing her nervousness…liking that my
nearness made her edgy. Stepping closer I helped her clear the table.

“Anyway,” Her voice sounded faintly breathless and my
grin widened. “I’m only going to be working here for a little bit longer and
then I’ll be working less than I am now.”

     My grin dimmed.

“What have you been doing this summer?” This was the
first personal question she’d asked me and she sounded hesitant, like she was
unsure if she should be asking me questions. Did I intimidate her? Is that why
she was nervous around me? I frowned at the thought. I wanted her nervous
around me because of
me
, not because I was Landon McKay.

“Nothing as industrious as what you’re doing. Mother
wanted Dad to put me to work in some position in the company this summer, but
he said this was my last hurrah before college and real life so he let me off
the hook.” I surprised myself again at the detailed explanation I’d given her.
It was almost like I was giving her an excuse for my laziness. I never provided
excuses.

Maya nodded. “Sounds like he remembers his teenage
years, not many parents’ can recollect that far back.” She sprayed the table
and grinned up at me impishly.

She didn’t look at all envious that I didn’t have to
work while she did. In fact, she appeared happy that I had a father willing to
let me be lazy for one more year. It left me a little stunned, witnessing
something that unselfish.

“So, what have you been doing then? Have you been to
the beach yet?” A true spark of interest lit up her dark chocolate eyes.

“The very first weekend.” I confirmed. Stepping back I
sat down on the arm of the closest chair watching her intently. The more time I
spent with Maya the more my interest grew. She appeared to be a bit of a unicorn;
a gorgeous woman that had depth. The women in my circle were all overly aware
of themselves and dull as dirt, while Maya was sexy in a way that lacked
self-awareness which only made her sexier.

But what were the chances that she was an exception that
looked like the rule?

She stopped wiping to look at me with humor lighting up
her eyes. “So did I. God, I love the beach. I wish we lived closer. We only get
to go about three times during the summer, but if we lived there I think I’d go
everyday. I don’t really go there to swim though, because I’m actually a little
scared to go too far out in the ocean.” Her expression was self-depreciating.
“I think I’ve seen too many
Shark Weeks
on the Discovery Channel. But I
love walking through the sand, wading in the water, and looking for shells.” A
sigh of wistfulness passed her lips and then she went back to wiping the table.

I stared at her in fascination. Normally when women
started yapping I zoned out, but everything out of this girl’s mouth had me on
the edge of my seat. She’d just told me something significant about herself and
I was enthralled; by her words, and by the joy on her face.

I was able to go the beach any time I wanted. We had a
beach house in Virginia Beach, but I didn’t appreciate it as much as she seemed
to. If she was able to get there as often would it get old to her? I had a
feeling it wouldn’t, not with the way she talked about it.

“Hey, don’t let those shark shows scare you from going
in the water. They say you’re in more danger on the roads than in the water.”

She made a ‘psshh’ noise. “I’ve already tried giving
myself that pep talk. It’s still only gotten me to go in up to my waist.”

The thought of her in a bikini popped into my head, a
white one that showed off her toffee skin color perfectly. It would look so
good on her petite frame, displaying that ass…my shorts started to tent so I
stood up and walked out of her line of sight.

“You still have one more year of high school left,
right?” I asked, needing to remind myself that she was too young and
inexperienced for what I wanted.

She tossed a brief look over her shoulder at me,
probably slightly perplexed at my topic change. “Uh, yes.”

“What high school do you go to?” I strolled around the
room, pondering my reservations. Maybe she’d be into a short summer thing. She
was interesting enough that I wouldn’t mind spending time with her. And at the end
of summer I’d be going away so the break would be easy.

I got another inquiring glance. “Freeman High. Where
are you going to college?” She volleyed back, interrupting my musing.

“University of Virginia. What are your plans?” I was
making the assumption that she was going because she seemed pretty intelligent.

“Probably to the University of Richmond. I have a good
chance at getting a full scholarship there and I want to stay close to mama.
What are you going for? Wait…” She held up hand. “That’s kind of a silly
question. Your mom wanted you to work for your father so you are probably going
for Business and taking classes that involve renewable and nonrenewable
energy.” She smirked, looking pleased with her guesses while she waited for my
answer.

It irked me that she assumed I’d be going into the
family business; even though she was correct. It was expected. “Yes, Miss
Smarty Pants, but I’m taking some classes just for myself as well.” I halted in
my tracks in disbelief that I’d just blurted that out. I hadn’t even told my
parent’s that.

She looked immediately intrigued. “What classes?”

“Never mind.” I waved her question away in irritation
and resumed my amble.

Her eyes narrowed, but she turned away without
pressing, and began reorganizing the table. I was strangely disappointed that
she didn’t press me for an answer.

     “I bet I can guess.”

Her declaration had me stopping again. “Is this like
the House of Flavors thing?” I mocked.

She shook her head gazing at me thoughtfully. “I will
guess one time, and if I get it wrong we’ll forget about it.”

Folding my arms across my chest I stared back at her
with hard piercing intensity. She flushed and fidgeted, but didn’t look away.
“Okay…one guess.” I agreed.

She walked toward me hesitantly and I tensed in
anticipation the closer she got. I wanted her close. I wanted her pressed up
against me. However, she stopped about a foot and a half from me. My body
vibrated; both pleased and dissatisfied at how far she’d come, and stopped.

She held out her hand. “Can I see your hands?”

I frowned. She wanted my hands? If another girl asked
me that I would think she’d suck on my fingers sensually, or put them
immediately on her tits.

I wasn’t getting that vibe from Maya
though…unfortunately.

I gave her my hands, curious.

Her hand was warm, soft, and small as it held mine; it
also trembled slightly. She lifted my right hand up near her face, and my body
tensed even further. Delicate fingers and dark eyes examined my hand, turning
it, caressing lightly over each finger. Blood pooled in my dick at an alarming
rate, and I had to focus hard on not revealing how aroused I was by regulating
my breathing and holding my hand steady in hers.

It was the most bizarre and chaste form of sexual
stimulation I’d ever received from a girl, and she wasn’t even trying.

“You like to draw.” She looked up at me, her expression
shy. “When I was in your room cleaning I saw the drawings on your wall. I
wasn’t certain if you drew them or if someone else did, but I can see that your
fingers have some slight discoloration and a deep indent in your middle finger.
You’re extremely good, your drawings I mean. I can see that you put a lot of
yourself into them. They are very detailed and expressive…poignant. You
should
further your talent.”

I could only stare at her in incredibility. No one had
ever said anything like that to me before, been that in tune with me. My
drawings were mostly for me. My family and friends had seen them, and while
they appreciated and praised them, they had never expressed it the way Maya
had.

Maya’s head suddenly swiveled toward the door, and then
I heard it too. Footsteps. If we hadn’t gone abruptly quiet neither of us would
have heard it. Her head twisted back my way wearing a cornered look.

     What was with that?

“Crap!” In the next instant Maya dropped my hand and
rushed out the door, grabbing her bucket of supplies on the way. I stared after
in surprise.

     “Maya!”

“Oh, hey, mama. I was just coming to find you. Didn’t
you say something about me doing something in the library today?”

“Yes, I was actually coming to see if you were done here
so I could show you what needs to be done there.”

     “Okay, lead the way.”

And then they were both gone.

My brows shot up in surprise and I sprawled back onto
the settee as the situation hit me. Maya had just walked away from me without a
by your leave.

I had to say; that was a first.

After Maya walked out on me—and didn’t come back during
the fifteen minutes I waited—I didn’t know what to think of her behavior. I was
both pissed and…weirdly intrigued. However, I let the angry part of me take
over, and as I was frustratingly aroused that was easy to do.

I stormed from the house and headed for Todd’s, and from
Todd’s we went to a party at Vic’s, a lacrosse teammate, over in Hedgeview
where I drank and brooded. Numerous girls tried hooking up with me but I gave
them all the cold shoulder. Some of the more dense females, who couldn’t seem
to catch a clue, got the sharp and extremely brutal side of my tongue.

I wasn’t in the mood to deal with drunk, dim-witted,
grasping females.

Crissy was at the party, but she appeared to have
caught the clue and stayed away from me.

I ended up drinking more than I normally did in an
effort to distract myself from thoughts of Maya. I didn’t understand why she
was weighing so heavily on my mind. Yes, she was gorgeous. Yes, she had a great
ass, and the possibility of her having great breasts was also high. Yes, I
liked conversing with her. However, she’d looked taken aback when I’d made that
suggestive remark, which told me she wasn’t all that experienced, and I only
associated with experienced females who would accept what I could give them…sex.
A virgin, or almost virgin, was going to want more. And the way she’d dashed
out of that room, like she was afraid to be caught talking to me, well that was
just unusual. Hell, I was still trying to process that.

Females ran toward me, not away.

But fuck, I wanted her. In a way I’ve never wanted
another girl.

After the party, Vic, Todd, and I stayed up even later
playing Black Ops on his PS4 and I didn’t get to bed until five o’clock in the
morning. When I woke up it was three in the afternoon, and by the time I made
it home an hour later Maya had left for the day.

     Several emotions swamped me at having missed her;
disappointment, relief, anger, confusion, confusion, and confusion. The girl
was messing with my head and I didn’t like it…did I?

I was pretty certain I didn’t like it. Who wants to
feel these kinds of extreme emotions? It was difficult to get a handle on any
of my thoughts because I was going from one emotion to another. The why, why,
why’s going through my head made me feel like a fucking chick. Thank god it was
only
in my head.

But if I didn’t like it why was I outside the dining
room debating on whether I should go in or not? I didn’t like it; therefore I
shouldn’t want to go in. Easy.

However, the overload of endorphins that were spilling
into my system at the possibility of seeing her was telling me that I was
looking forward to seeing her.

Shoving my girl emotions forcibly to the side I pushed
open the door. I decided I was just going to find out why she’d ditched me
Monday. Once I got the answer to that I should be able to clear her from my
head. It was most likely just an ego thing. I had no problem admitting that
mine was probably bigger than most.

     I
was
Landon McKay.

Oh, thank shit
. Maya was facing me today when I
walked in. I don’t think I could have handled another view of her ass today.
She was sitting at the table and spread out in front of her was a truck load of
silver; silverware, silver plates, silver bowls, silver do-dads. It appeared to
be polishing day.

Of course this gave me ideas of something else I
wouldn’t mind her polishing.

She glanced up and instantly looked uncomfortable at
the sight of me, going back to vigorously rubbing the bowl in front of her. Smirking
at her uneasiness, I strode up to the table and pulled out the chair opposite
of her sitting down in it. She threw me several nervous fleeting looks as I
settled myself in, but didn’t say anything.

I sat there silently as well, relaxing back in the
chair, waiting her out. She owed me another apology and I was going to get it.
