“You and Creed meeting with Voodoo again today?” She switched Jaxon over to her other breast.
“Yeah,” Stone said, giving her damp nipple a reverent swipe of his thumb. “We gave him a few suggested changes. We go back today to see if he could distinguish which ones were good and which were bad. Can’t carry him. He has to be able to think for his people too.”
“I think he’s good people, Stone.”
“You’re too trusting.”
“Oh, yeah, that describes me to a T. And he’s asleep.” She went to shift Jaxon off her nipple, and he latched on with a startled grunt, suckling like a starved man.
“I wouldn’t let go either.” Stone chuckled. “You miss being in the middle of it all?”
“Yes and no.” She covered his fingers that fiddled with her nipple. “Stop. You’re going to make me start leaking.”
“From where, sunshine?”
“Both places, you pervert.” He grinned and released her, tucking her back inside her robe. She ran her fingers through his hair, glad he’d let the chocolaty locks grow a little longer, but not back to their original length. “I miss the excitement of change and being actively involved. Making decisions, meeting with people, seeing people flourish when they’re no longer being oppressed. But this little guy has been worth the vacation.” The little guy in her arms cooed at her as if he knew she referred to him. “Soon enough he’ll be big enough I can leave him with our Moms and venture back into the fight with you. And my duties with Reaper and Dutch are just as important.”
These days, the fight kept them away from home only a few hours at a time. So it wasn’t like she’d be gone for days like in the beginning.
“That’s a good lie you tell yourself, but unconvincing.” Trying to decipher that, she frowned at Stone. He explained, “Sunshine, we both know you’d be beside me if you could with Jaxon latched onto your nipple. You’ve been gone six months.” She’d been bedridden the last two months of her pregnancy. “I know you miss being a part of the X-Diplomats’ process, and that’s why I’ve got the grandmas on babysitting duty today. He’s not hungry any longer, just being a glutton for his mother’s attention like his daddy is.” He lifted Jaxon from her arms and snuggled their son against his chest, patting his back. “Go get ready so you can join Creed and me today. Ask nicely and I might even invite Dutch. It’ll be like old times—the six of us together again.”
It was obvious to everyone James wanted to hang with Dutch any chance he received, even though she never gave him the time of day. And Reaper remained her bodyguard as much as James was Stone’s. They never left home without either man.
She smiled, blinking back a weird rush of tears and loving that he understood her so well. Rising from her chair, the only thing she could think to say was, “Thank you.”
He feathered a finger along her cheek. “The invite is purely selfish. I want to steal you away from Jaxon, so he’ll know to whom you really belong. Me.”
She giggled because he didn’t mean a word of it. “I belong to both of you.”
“Feels so good when you lie to me like that, sunshine. Lets me know I’m loved, because we both know you belong to this one right now. He needs you more than I do, you little hogger.” He winked at her. “But I
do
require your wisdom. God knows you see things differently than I do and Creed does. Shit, he’d rather slice Voodoo’s throat, take his Quad, and call it a day. We need allies, not more enemies.” She could see the anxiety in his features. He struggled with this interchange. “I
need
to know if Voodoo’s legitimate enough to put partial trust in him. And...” he bent his knees to meet her at eye level. “I really, really want to have you all to myself for just a few hours. You up for a visit to the waterfall when we complete business?”
“Pretty boy, as long as you’re
up
, I’ll always be up for
anything
you want to do to me.”
“God.” His eyes closed briefly. “I might spank your ass for putting that visual in my head. It’ll have me distracted all goddamn day. Next time, lie to me.”
Kella laughed as she walked away, and because she knew he watched, she put a little extra swing in her hips to taunt him.
