“Such perfect breasts, a bounty placed on such a thin
frame,” he whispered, taking one in each palm, weighing their plump lushness.
Laughlin took his time with her sensitive breasts, kissing and caressing first
one then the other. He nipped at her rosy nipples. He suckled deep, basking in
her gasps and groans.

Sabine was so perfect—perfect for him. He thanked whatever
god or goddess blessed his life with her.

He licked his way down her stomach, smiling as she twitched
when he circled her navel. As he pulled her thighs apart and gazed at her
glistening black curls, she whimpered. Her hands started to move down to cover
herself but she stopped at his sharp gaze.

“Don’t ever try to hide from me, beloved. You’re beautiful.”
Laughlin gently parted the lips of her cunt, gazing down at the delicate,
quivering pink flesh. “Everything about you is so very beautiful. I’ll never
forget your look or your taste for as long as I live.”

He bent forward slowly, letting his hair slide over her
thighs. He gave her clit a quick, teasing lick. Her heels pounded into the
mattress as she cried out. He smiled. He loved her reactions, every single nuance.
He couldn’t wait to wring out more cries from her, more moans and shivers.

He sank one finger deep in her cunt, using it to open her
for his tongue.

Her essence poured over his tastebuds. Her unique flavor
flowed forth, thick and exotic. He thrust his tongue deeper inside her, digging
in and seeking every last drop as his thumb rubbed her clit back and forth.

Nothing in this world or the next can compare to her
taste.

Sabine jerked and twisted under his continuous oral assault.
She pulled his hair, muttered obscenities and tried to wiggle away. But he held
her still and refused stop, not until she opened her powers to him, letting him
feel what she felt.

And what she felt nearly drove him over the edge.

Love, pure and simple, wrapped him in a cocoon of warmth and
safety.

He pulled away from her, licking his lips as he stared down
into her glistening eyes. He didn’t have to say a word, didn’t have to ask the
question ripping at his heart.

She simply nodded, holding out her arms to him. “I love you,
Laughlin. For better or for worse, I truly love you. You are stuck with me now
and you’d best never forget it.”

Laughlin felt his eyes tearing up as his throat tightened.
This woman, who’d lived such a hard life and had no reason to trust anyone,
loved him. She was willing to risk her heart on him along with her future.

With her and Brandr by his side, Laughlin couldn’t imagine a
better future.

He couldn’t wait a second longer to be a part of her, with
her, in her. He had the entire night to savor her and he wanted to start by
having her now.

He moved between her thighs, reaching to guide his throbbing
cock into her waiting cunt. As her hot flesh enveloped his cock, Laughlin’s
balls drew tight. This wouldn’t last long,
he
couldn’t last long.

Sabine wrapped her arms around him and sank her teeth into
his shoulder. Her impatience and desire flooded him. She wanted him to move and
move
now
.

He pulled his hips back slowly, torturing both of them
before he thrust into her, hard and fast. Again and again he took her, trying
to find that spot inside her that drove her mad as he struggled against the
growing urge to lose control.

She cried out as he found her G-spot. He angled his thrusts
so he rubbed it with each plunge.

Colors burst behind his eyelids as whatever control she had
over her powers collapsed. He felt her drawing out his desire and his love, a
thick thread connecting them. In return she slammed a mixture her emotions and
his back into him.

A cycle formed, a circle of pure positive human emotion.
With each revolution Laughlin felt his heart clench tighter and his hunger grow
more and more insatiable. The euphoria became more than he could stand, an
electricity filling his body to the breaking point.

In a split second, right before his orgasm drove every other
thought from his mind, Laughlin had an epiphany. With Brandr’s ability to
escalate their powers, and with these positive feelings, they could fight the
demons on equal footing. This was the key to the ritual he had been trying to
find.

The Three together could create something so special that
even the demons would be powerless against it.

Then all conscious thought turned back and narrowed to focus
on the moment. He shuddered as fire raced down his spine from the base of his
neck to his ass. His balls throbbed. He gritted his teeth, trying desperately
to hold on as long as possible.

Sabine tossed her head back and screamed. Her passion threw
him over the edge as his own spasms started, splashing his cum deep inside
her.~

Logan awoke with a gasp as his orgasm ripped through him, a
phantom echo of the past. He felt blood pool in his cheeks as he looked down at
the puddle covering his belly, streams reaching as far as his chest. He reached
for the box of tissues sitting on the nightstand. Thankfully he’d kicked off
the sheets during his sleep.

I wouldn’t want to explain that kind of mess in the
morning.

After cleaning himself off and throwing the evidence away in
a small trash can he found hidden in the closet, Logan lay back down. He
propped his arms behind his head and stared up at the ceiling.

Sabine had loved him. So had Brandr. They’d fought well for
almost a decade after that moment in his dreams. They’d created the Ritual of
the Three, teaching it to others capable of closing the tears that the demons
used to access the mortal world.

Ten years filled with happiness.

Then Sabine died in battle. In the end, the demons won,
taking her from him. Laughlin and Brandr didn’t last much longer after losing
her. With part of their hearts gone, they both became too careless, dying
together less than a year later in another skirmish. At least they’d already
trained others in the Ritual, others who could take up the battle and close the
tears.

Logan prayed that their present lives had a better ending
but feared another repeat.

Something was brewing in this little town. He was no Empath
but even he could feel a building sense of
wrongness
. Even with Brandr
there to help him, he’d lost Sabine. He’d lost her so many times since in more
lives than Logan had the energy to count.

Logan couldn’t lose Bree,
wouldn’t.
Not now, so soon
after finding her. Not before he had Brandr by his side again.

He’d had one family taken from him during this lifetime, was
only six years old when the demon-possessed humans came and slaughtered them.

Logan would be damned before he’d lose his second chance at
having a family.

He glanced over at the clock. It was a little past three,
way too early to get up. If things went as they seemed, he’d need as much rest
as possible. He punched his pillow a few times, pulled the covers back over
himself and forced himself to get back to sleep.

Unfortunately, the feel of his new dreams left very little
room for true rest. Vision after vision of a future where demons took over the
little town bombarded him. Logan’s sleeping mind searched out futures for a
better possibility but found little to encourage him.

If things were left as they were, their future was bleak.
His mistake with Bree could cost him more than just her love. It could cost
lives.

As the sun rose over the top of the mountain range, Logan
came to a decision. One way or another, he had to convince Bree to come back to
him.

There could be no other outcome.

Chapter Fifteen

The dim, watery morning light streaming through his window
hit Logan right in the eyes. He squinted at the clock.
It’s too late to try
to get more sleep but it’s too damn early for me to pretend to be happy about
it.
He was tempted to throw a pillow over his head. Instead he groaned at
the lack of caffeine in his system and at the dull ache pounding at the back of
his head. He barely had the dexterity to drag on his clothes.
I hate days
that start like this. It’s a bad omen.

Logan stumbled down the stairs and staggered into the
kitchen.

Matt stood at the counter pouring coffee into a travel mug.
He gave Logan a sympathetic grimace. “Looks like I’m not the only non-morning
person in the house anymore, huh? You didn’t get up until late yesterday and
you look like the walking dead today. Ty always leaves a pot of coffee brewing
before heading to the cafe but you have to make your own food.” He screwed the
cap on his travel cup and scooped up his uniform jacket. “Aaron’s still around
but everyone else is off to work.”

Damn, missed her.
“It’s only six. I didn’t think
everyone would be gone so early.”

“Like I said, bunch of early birds.” Matt slipped on the
jacket, his coordination almost as bad as Logan’s as he missed one of the arms
twice. “Ty and Bree have to get the cafe ready for the breakfast crowd so they
leave around five. Wes likes to get most of his research in before the rest of
the newspaper staff arrives, so he left just a few minutes ago. Jordan’s still
on break for a couple more weeks so he goes running every morning and I start
shift at seven. Aaron will be in his office tracking financial stuff on the
internet. So you’re on your own.”

Great, I can’t talk to Bree while she’s working and I’ve
got nothing to occupy my mind.

Matt sighed and rubbed at the back of his head. “If you’re
bored, there’s a trailhead that bumps up to the main road about a mile east of
here. Little Herder’s Trail. It makes a circle of the town, dipping into
several of the hollers. It’ll give you a nice taste of the area—the good, the
bad and the truly pathetic. Actually, it looks pretty when the day isn’t so bleak.
On your bike it’s probably an hour drive without stopping. If you check out
some of the hiking paths along the way, you could probably waste the afternoon.
Though in the rain I don’t know how much fun it would be. Still, it’ll also
give you the opportunity to study the terrain.”

Logan grabbed a cup sitting beside the coffeepot and poured
himself some. “Thanks, I need to clear my head. A ride might be just the thing
to do the trick.”

At that, Matt smirked. “Yeah, dealing with my sister can do
that to a man.”

Logan’s coffee sloshed, spilling a few hot drops on his
hand. He cursed, shaking the liquid off before bracing himself as he faced the
brother who carried a gun to work every day. “What do you mean?”

“That I’m not blind, deaf or dumb. I wouldn’t get far in my
line of work if I was. But don’t worry, I’m not going to beat you within an
inch of your life.” Matt moved to the back door, grabbing a set of keys off the
hanger beside it. “Way I figure it, having to try to understand Bree is
punishment enough for any man serious about her. And I think you
are
serious about her. Hence the pity on my part.” He shook his head as he walked
out the door. “Can’t be easy.”

You have no idea.
Logan took a deep drink, closing
his eyes to savor the dark brew. If Ty ever thought about leaving home, Logan
would be more than willing to put a good word in for him at Zen. That man could
cook.

Drinking his coffee as he headed back to his room, Logan
started making plans.
Take a ride, check out the area, see if I can get any
better visions, meet Bree at the cafe at closing time and try to reason with
her.

He hoped he wasn’t asking for too much.

Chapter Sixteen

It was dark, Bree’s feet were killing her, and she was so
tired she could swear she’d filled her last three orders in her sleep. Finally,
the last customer was out the door and Ty was in the back of the cafe packing
up leftovers to take home for dinner.

Bree stepped outside to stand under the awning and watch the
endless rain pour. The deluge had slowed down a bit that morning until
midafternoon, but as the sun fell the rain increased. The streets, normally not
busy on the best of nights, were a ghost town in the wake of the storm.

It just felt…off.

A motor roared to her right, the deep sound cutting through
the patter of the rain. She closed her eyes and pushed out with her powers,
sensing a confused mixture of emotions approaching. Fear, anxiety and love
swirled in a storm to rival the natural one that raged on.

Logan. Great, just who I don’t want to see right now.

The motorcycle pulled up right in front of her, giving her
no opportunity to retreat. The sight of Logan in full muscle-hugging leather
sent a quick dart of arousal through her.

But he didn’t bother removing his helmet. Logan pulled
another helmet off the bar in the back and tossed it to her. “Get on.”

She looked down at the helmet in her hands and back up at
him, raising a single eyebrow.
Really, he expects me to meekly follow his
orders now?

She could feel the impatience and consternation building up
around him. “Please, put it on. We need to talk. Seriously talk.”

Bree vibrated with the repressed need to tell him exactly
where to stick it. But it was the fear she’d felt coming from him earlier that
stopped her. Something was up and her ego and pride weren’t worth someone
getting hurt or dying over.

She tapped on the door to the cafe and waved to Ty before
putting on the helmet and buckling it tight. She climbed behind Logan, scooting
as close as she could, never having ridden a motorcycle before. She barely had
time to wrap her arms around his waist before he gunned the motor and took off.

Snuggling in close to his back, Bree shivered. She’d never
considered how cold riding a motorcycle could be. Thankfully, she’d grabbed her
jacket that morning. With the rain smacking down on her, she trembled and
cuddled closer to his warmth. Not the most comfortable introduction to a ride.
She’d always wanted to learn to drive a motorcycle, imagining that the feeling
was the closest thing to flying you could get while staying on the ground. The
road would fly beneath her feet. The wind would whip through her hair. Her
heart would race with the rush of speed.
