Are you afraid of heights?”

“
If I am?” She was trembling now.

“
You’re shaking.”

He took her hand in his and squeezed. “I’m right here. I won’t let anything happen to you.”

“
I know. It’s not you that I’m worried about.”

He lifted his hand to her face and pulled it so she was looking at him, instead of down at the ground. Her eyes found his and she calmed a little. Leaning in, he kissed her. He deepened the kiss and she completely forgot where she was. The ride went round and round while Levi held her face in his hands kissing away her fear. Just as he’d chased away her pain over the last couple of months. The man kissing her lips had accomplished the impossible. He pulled her from the dark and gave her the ability to feel again. He was her own personal hero and she was madly in love with him.

Eventually, the ride came to an end and Kallie heard someone clear their voice. She pulled away to see the bar was open and people looking at them. Heat rushed over her face. Levi stood and offered her his hand. Taking it, they walked, and people whistled at them while Kallie hung to Levi’s arm.

Soon it was time to meet his parents at the truck, and leave. Kallie rested her head on his shoulder as they rode. Her thoughts moved to the events of the night and how perfect it was. She thought about how perfect the last couple of months had been, and how in love she was with Levi. Getting to know and love him had come so easily to her. She looked up at him and his blue eyes met hers. She wanted this man. She wanted to share a piece of herself with him in a way she’d never done before, and it both scared and exhilarated her.

When they got to Levi’s, she watched his parents walk inside, while he pulled her in the opposite direction. They stopped at her trailer. She waited outside until Levi reappeared with a blanket. Taking her hand, they walked toward the barn farthest from the house. It was the hay barn. Levi helped her climb the hay bales until they were in the loft. He opened a door and she was looking across a pasture with a large lake that reflected the thousands of stars in the sky. She stood in awe for a minute while Levi worked behind her. She tore her eyes from the view and turned to see Levi had made a bed out of hay bales, laying the blanket over top of the hay.

He walked up to her until his hard chest pressed against her and her head was tilted back to look up at him. He brushed her hair away from her face and then kissed her. His tongue slipped into her mouth and she moaned. Her hands moved up his arms to his neck and held him there, pulling him closer as she kissed him harder, both wanting and needing more of him. His hands moved down her backside to her rear. He cupped her and then lifted. Wrapping his body with her short legs, he walked toward their makeshift bed, never taking his lips from hers. He laid her down and pressed himself against her. She moaned as her back arced beneath him. She tugged at his shirt, untucking it and pulling it over his head. She smiled at him as he claimed her lips once more. She closed her eyes as he pushed the hem of her dress up until he found her panties. She pulled away trying to catch her breath, while he kissed her jawline down to her neck and then to her collarbone. He pulled back examining her face carefully.

We don’t have to go any further. I can wait. I’d wait a thousand years for you, Kallie Davis.”

She looked into his blue eyes and knew without a doubt she wanted this man. She wanted all of him and she wanted to give all of herself to him.

It’s okay. I want to.”

He pulled away from her neck and stared down at her with wide eyes.

Are you sure? If we start this, there’s no going back. Are you really sure?” Levi looked at her hard.

She licked her swollen, thoroughly kissed lips as they trembled. He brought his hand to her face and traced her bottom lip with his thumb.

“
I think I’m in love with you,” she said shakily as her heart wanted to jump out of her chest.

She waited for his response while he stared down at her.

I know I’m in love with you.” The words rolled out his mouth and her world stopped. He loved her and that was all that mattered as she claimed his lips. She pressed her body against his and moaned as her nipples rubbed his chest. He pushed the straps of her dress over her shoulders and pulled it down to expose her perfectly round breasts to him. He kissed her lips as he pinned her arms above her head. With his calloused hands, he worked down her side, pushing the dress down until it was out of his way. He kissed her once more before releasing her, trailing kisses down her neck to her breasts and then to her stomach. The desire Kallie felt building before had started to build again. The following morning, Kallie woke in Mark’s old bed alone. She and Levi had snuck in somewhere around three. She looked at the clock. It read 8:30. She pushed back the covers and climbed into the shower. As the water ran over her, she couldn’t help but feel like she’d changed. She closed her eyes and remembered the way he looked, completely naked with nothing but the moon and stars to light him. She smiled to herself and her hand went to her lips as she remembered how Levi’s thumb crossed them. She recalled hearing those three little words and her heart sang to her all over again. She moved to find the shampoo, her body aching in places she didn’t know could ache. She stood back up. About that time there was a knock on the door.

“
Kallie! Breakfast is in ten minutes,” Jenna called to her through the door.

“
Thank you!” she yelled back.

Kallie hurried through her shower and got dressed. She opened the door to go downstairs and Levi stood there with his back to her. He spun around.

“
Are you okay?” His eyes filled with worry.

She smiled at him and his concern. “I’m fine.”

“
Are you sure?” She nodded as he pulled her into his arms. “I hated not being in the same bed as you last night. I don’t think I slept a wink.”

She on the other hand, had not had that problem. Sleep found her quickly and cradled her through dreams she couldn’t recall.

“
Are you sure you’re okay?”

She laughed. “Yes!”

He kissed her lightly and then looked down at her. “I love you.”

“
I love you,” she told him back.

Chapter Thirteen

Levi spent the day checking fences, while Kallie helped his father with a few of the trouble yearlings. He hadn’t seen her and his body missed her something fierce. He wanted to feel her body against his, but most of all he wanted to make sure she was okay. She had assured him last night he hadn’t hurt her, but he still worried. He smiled as he thought about her and how she’d given him a very important piece of herself. How had he gotten so lucky? She was perfect and she loved him. Right now there wasn’t much else that mattered to him.

Levi rode into the barn and unsaddled his horse. As he put his tack away, he could hear Kallie and his heart raced, anxious to get her in his sight.

I would keep working him the way you are, John. I think he’s a little stubborn right now, but he’ll come around.”

“
That’s what I thought, but your method worked real nice on that filly from this morning.”

Her father and Kallie walked into the barn.

“
There you are. I thought you got lost,” his dad told him.

“
I could never forget how to get around here.”

“
Well, we’re all heading back to the fair tonight. Will you two be joining us?”

John looked back and forth between the two of them, but Levi had something else on his mind for the evening.

“
I think we’re going to stay home tonight,” he told his father.

“
Well, you two enjoy yourselves. We’ll be home later.”

He watched as John hugged Kallie. “Same time tomorrow?” he asked her.

She nodded and smiled at his father as Levi went about putting away his riding equipment. He had to keep his hands busy because all he could think about was getting his them on her.

John nodded to Levi and started for the house. Once his father was out of sight, he hurried to Kallie. The need to be near her and to touch her was too much. He lifted and spun her around as she wrapped her arms around his neck and laughed.

“
I missed you!” he told her.

He released her body so that it slid down over him, her lips catching his on the way down.

“
I love you,” she said to him.

“
I want to take you some place.”

“
Right now?”

“
No. Let me put Cindy away. We’ll shower and then go.”

She smiled at him with wide green eyes. He kissed her once more and then went to put Cindy away. He closed up the tack room and together they started for the house. Everyone was gone and the house was completely quiet when they walked in. Kallie started for the stairs, while Levi threw a couple of things in a paper bag. Once he decided he had everything he wanted, he went up the stairs. He could hear the shower going in Mark’s old bathroom. He smiled to himself as he stripped down and climbed in behind her. He watched Kallie as she washed her body, completely unaware of him. She leaned her head to the side while his eyes wandered down her naked back. She was absolutely sexy. She turned and screamed. He laughed, grabbing her and pulling her body to his.
