Read Loving the Candidate (Capitol Affairs #2) Online
Authors: Mia Villano
It was the night before the election. All the speeches, debates, and events of the last couple of years were now a distant memory. All the states we’d traveled to and the people we’d met would decide if Alex Conrad was the right man to lead the country. We decided to take a twenty-four-hour jaunt across the country for one last attempt at swaying the votes.
It was a dead heat between Alex and his Republican opponent. The polls showed it could go either way. We were running on adrenaline and plenty of caffeine. We would fly somewhere, land on the tarmac, make a speech, and fly out to the next city. Alex’s campaign song kept us pumped, and we played it nonstop on the plane. We spent the biggest part of the last twenty-four hours in the air. He was worn-out, but he kept pushing. He wasn’t going to give up until he’d sealed the deal.
Ohio would be our last stop. It was ten at night when we landed in Cleveland. I looked out at the people who waited for him. They screamed his name as we taxied down the runway to the stage. We were two hours late, but the people didn’t care. They wanted to see my husband and cheer him on one last time.
“This is it, baby. Our last stop.” Alex looked out the window at the crowd with me.
“Come on, big guy, the song’s going to start at any moment. They’re waiting for you,” said Mark.
“I want Prudence with me for this last time.” Alex was getting ready to exit the plane.
“Okay, but get your ass out there on time.” Only Mark could talk to him like that and get away with it.
“Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome the next president of the United States and the next first lady, Senator and Mrs. Conrad.”
Alex grabbed my hand, and we ran down the steps of the plane as his song blasted out into the crowd. He had ditched his suit and wore his jeans and vintage motorcycle jacket. I wore maternity jeans and a flowing top with a leather jacket to match him. This was a style his advisors thought we should go for. We were the new, young, free, and down-to-earth couple about to take Washington. Alex wanted everyone to know we were one of them. He looked more like a model than a candidate for president. When we were finished, I planned on showing him how incredible he was, at 30,000 feet. Pregnant or not, I was determined to fuck his brains out when we boarded the plan.
The makeshift stage was out in the middle of the crowd. We walked out holding hands, smiling, and waving to the crowd. It was surreal. Cameras and cell phones flashed everywhere, taking pictures or videos of us.
“Ohio, I love you!” Alex yelled. “Are you ready to win tomorrow?”
The crowd yelled yes back to him.
“I can’t hear you. Are you ready to take this tomorrow, OHIO?” he yelled again. I smiled and clapped along with the audience screaming yes back to him.
“I’m thrilled to be back here in Cleveland. You guys rock.”
“This song says it all for this campaign and this great Rock-and-Roll city. Reach for the sky and get higher and higher. We will leave them all behind. My opponent is getting left behind.”
“This is what dreams are made of, Cleveland. The last line in my campaign song says, ‘That’s what love is made of.’ I couldn’t be living my dream without the love of my life and this strong and very pregnant woman. She has stood beside me and never faltered once on the campaign trail with me. My love for this woman was the center of this campaign. They tried to use it to hurt me, yet it only helped me. She has been my rock, and my cheerleader, and tomorrow she will be your first lady.”
The screaming increased as people chanted my name. Signs saying “Dear Prudence” flew along with Conrad signs. I could not breathe. I tried to capture this moment, knowing it would never happen again. Not like this. I glanced out into the crowd through my tear-filled eyes. People had been waiting for us for two hours, waiting to see the young energetic leader they had invested all their hopes and dreams in. They wanted what he wanted, and he’d promised them he would fight for them.
“We have been on this plane for two days straight. We have been to the east, the west, the south, and the north. Have been up for about forty-eight hours straight, and I’m losing my voice, but I’m pumped up. I know we can do this tomorrow because I know what we want is right. We are fighting for you and I won’t stop. I’m here on the last stop of my campaign to ask you to vote for me tomorrow. You have been bombarded with tons of commercials from both sides. You are sick of looking at my face.” The crowd listened to him for the next twenty minutes. Between the screams, he told them what they wanted to hear.
I already knew victory was ours. The underdog married to someone from the wrong side of the tracks, may become the leader of the greatest country in the world. They’d said he couldn’t do it. They said he was too young. They all said it couldn’t be done. The press had raked us through the mud over and over. Our love had been questioned time and time again. It didn’t matter. They couldn’t stop us. His past had never been brought up, and when we stood out in front of the crowd in Ohio, I was able to breathe a sigh of relief. We’d made it.
They looked to Alex to get them out of a recession and a war that should have ended years ago. They wanted what he wanted, and he’d promised them he would fight for them. This was the time. This was his time. It was the crescendo of a long and tiring campaign, a campaign that had almost ended our marriage. We’d done it. He’d told me we would, and he was right. I still could not believe I was standing there with him. It was me he’d chosen to take that journey with him. Prudence Romaine, from a trailer park to the White House. That was a story in itself. All those hopeless years fearing I had no future seemed a waste of time. Tomorrow we would have it all.
Chapter 26
The last morning I had Alex home with me, I woke to the aroma of bacon cooking and the glare of the sun shining through our window. I rolled over to reach for Alex, but he wasn’t in bed. I heard him singing downstairs. The soon-to-be president-elect was cooking, smiling, and singing a rock song in his boxers.
“You are up and looking hot as usual.” He kissed me on the lips, spinning me around the kitchen floor.
“Why the good mood, Alex? Are you drinking already? Celebrating your win?” I asked. I poured myself a cup of coffee and sat at the island in the middle of the kitchen. It would be three more weeks until I would be holding a little Alex in my arms. Today was going to be a quiet day, but tonight we would be out. Tonight, he would give either his acceptance speech or his concession speech. It looked like it would be an acceptance speech.
“No, I slept wonderfully next to the most beautiful woman in the world, feeling our baby kick. I’m ready to accept a new job and I have cooked the most perfect bacon ever. I hope you are hungry?”
“It smells wonderful and yes, I’m starving. This is it, baby. This is the day. Are you ready for this?” I watched him crack eggs like a chef.
“I’m so ready. I hope it goes the way everyone is predicting. In a few hours I could be the president of the United States, and you, the first lady carrying the first baby. He scrambled eggs and added cheese with his back to me. I helped by popping rye bread in the toaster. I also took the opportunity to wrap my arms around him. Even with my big belly in the way I wanted to hold him in my arms. I loved him so happy and positive.
“I love you,” I whispered in his ear.
“I love you more.” He turned and kissed me, his mouth slick from the bacon he’d already eaten. I reached down to touch him in his shorts. My Alex, always ready for me.
“Oh, what is this, Prudence?” He continued to cook.
“I want you, Alex. I want you one last time before you are the leader of the biggest country in the world. I want you before I have to call you Mr. President.”
“I see that. Sex before bacon and eggs?”
“Sex before everything is my motto. We need to stay busy today and keep our mind off things. There is nothing I would rather be doing than spending today in bed with you.” I rubbed his designer boxer shorts.
“My sentiments exactly.”
He kissed me, long and hard. His hands went under my shirt and caressed my back down to my ass. He grabbed it and dug his fingers in it. Within seconds he had my thong off and down at my feet.
“I love every inch of you.” He kissed my neck and between my breasts, trying to cover as much of me as he could.
“You should be getting tired of it. You know, the same old woman every day, Plus, I’m a whale,” I said into his mouth.
“I will never, never tire of you or this body of yours. You are perfect. You are not even close to being a whale. I love you like this. Your bigger, heavier boobs and all.”
His hands slid back up my body and before I knew it, he had my bare ass sitting on the cool granite countertop. I thrust my fingers into his still-wet hair. He sucked my tongue and I arched my back, pressing my breasts against his body. He pushed my legs apart and pushed himself against me. He looked up at me with his boyish smile and dark lustful eyes, and then buried his head in the crook of my neck. His fingers found their way inside of me. My clit throbbed as he fingered me so softly. He barely entered me, yet the feeling was intense and drove me mad. My body wanted more of him.
“Alex.”
“What, baby? What do you want your Alex to do?”
My need for him heightened when we met each other’s gaze.
“Fuck me.”
I pulled down his shorts. I wanted him right in the kitchen. I wanted him one last time before he became the most powerful man in the world. Our bodies were slick with sweat and burning for each other. I tried to grip his ass to pull him deeper inside me.
“Not yet, Prudence. Not yet,” he whispered. He turned on the cold water in the sink beside me and wet his fingers before rubbing them over my hard nipples
“Why, Alex? I want you.” The front of my shirt had two big wet spots.
“Let me tease you. I want you a lot wetter than this. Lie back and spread your legs, baby.”
Sitting on a yellow stool by the counter, he put his head between my thighs. He grabbed my ass, dragging me down to the edge of the counter. He began licking me and latched onto my clit. With his mouth on me, he stuck two fingers inside as he continued to take me. It took seconds for me to come. He continued to make love to me with his mouth, softly and sweetly.
“Am I wet enough, Alex? The Australian kiss you gave me does it every time,” I said.
“Let me take you upstairs. This house is going to be like Grand Central soon, and I don’t want anyone seeing the things I plan to do to you”
I couldn’t speak and barely could walk. Stopping wasn’t what I had in mind. He scooped me up in his arms and carried me to our room.
“This is the last time I can say this. What are you going to do with me, Senator?”
His mouth covered mine as we took the spiral steps up to our room.
He laid me on our still unmade bed. He was too gorgeous to be president. He was too gorgeous to be a senator. I lay in front of him in my wet T-shirt with my legs open, waiting for him to come and fuck me.
“You have no idea how wet you are. You begging for me, Prudence?”
“I want you so bad, Alex. You are wet too,” I said, I looking at his hard, dripping cock. “Let me taste you, Alex. Let me have you in my mouth.”
I licked the drop off the tip of his swollen cock. He moaned when I started to suck him from the base to the tip. He was always well-groomed, but all I saw was the gorgeousness of his rock-hard cock
“You don’t have to do this, Prudence. I know you want it inside you,” he whispered.
“No, I want this. I want you in my mouth, Alex.” I said. His hands rested on my head as he ran his fingers through my hair. The closeness we had was perfect and so real. It was a closeness we may not have again for a while, once the baby came. I sucked on him softly. Letting my tongue caress the underside of him, I sucked him harder. He moaned and said my name, making me want him even more. I let my tongue dance across the dripping head and rubbed his cock against my parted lips. I ran my fingertips along the underside of his balls. They tightened, and I knew he would be exploding in me soon.
“Baby, suck it hard,” he moaned. Digging my fingers into him, I took him entirely into my mouth, slurping over every inch of him.
“Prudence,” he yelled, as he came hard in my mouth. His body jerked and his cock throbbed in my mouth until his semen filled my throat. His hands slid from my hair slowly down my body. He touched my aching clit with his finger, and I spread my legs for him.
“Come for me, baby. Come on my fingers. I want to see you cum for me.”
“Alex,” I yelled. I begged him to stop. I grabbed his arm to push his hand away.
“Alex, no more. I can’t take it.”
“Oh my God. I love you,” he said. We collapsed, grasping each other. I wanted to hold him to me at that moment. I wanted to freeze time and keep him with me. Our lives were about to change and I had no idea how drastic it would be.
We dragged ourselves to the kitchen to eat the breakfast he had prepared for us. Mark was already down there eating it with a sneaky smile on his face.
“Once again creeping around, aren’t you, Mark. By the way, that was Prudence’s goddamn bacon you’re shoving in your mouth.” Alex was in too good a mood to be upset or angry. Plus, it was Mark.
“This was yours?” asked Mark, shoving in another piece.
“Yes, you pathetic geek. Thanks for eating this poor pregnant woman’s breakfast. Alex, stop it. I’m fine, and you know I don’t eat bacon. I would much rather have a piece of toast.”
Both of them ran to the toaster to put it in for me.
“I’ve got this, Alex. It is the least I can do,” said Mark, beating him to the toaster and putting in rye bread to replace the toast he had eaten.
“Don’t be jamming that in your mouth. Do you have my speeches ready for tonight?” asked Alex as he took out the butter and started to make the coffee.
“I have them. But, you are going to need the acceptance speech, Alex. There is no way you’d lose tonight. I got word you’re leading by a big margin. This fucking shit is in the bag, baby.” Mark hugged Alex and patted him on the ass.
