About the Author
THE HYDRA
In one version of this tale, it was not Hercules but
the heroic physician, Asclepius, who fought the
monster and cut off its hundred poison headsâ
which immediately turned into a hundred streams
of pure healing waters. And this, in turn, led to a
whole theory of pharmacology. In the spirit of that
earlier legend, I dedicate this book to
BILL EVSLIN
wonderful son and superb doctor
