“I see,” Dominic
said calmly.  I looked at him questioningly and he leaned forward intently as
he explained.

“There are many
ways of being what you are.  Sensitive is just a catch-all term for humans that
have unusual powers.  You apparently manifest your power when you are under
strong emotional stress.”  He shook his head ruefully.

“That certainly
explains your reaction to supernatural creatures- and their reaction to you.
You are sensitive to the power that we radiate, but at the same time you are
putting off emotion like a beacon.”  He smiled sensually, “And that is what we
thrive on.  It tends to trigger our baser instincts.”    He cocked his head to
study me curiously.  “There is something…enchanting… about you.  It draws us
in.  I’ve never felt anything like it.”

I was quiet as I
took this all in.  It made as much sense as anything else in my life, I
supposed. It also explained the interesting dynamic between Ailis and I-
and
they way every situation involving one of their kind tended to end in sexual
tension.

I sighed in
resignation.  “What can I do?”  I asked impatiently.  My voice was high pitched
and I sounded bitchy, but I really didn’t care.  Being jerked around like I
just had was a bit of a slap in the face and the blood was still pounding in my
head.

Dominic laughed,
his beautiful blue eyes crinkling at the corners.  “Impatient are we?”  He
seemed surprised.  “I thought that after our awkward start, you would be ready
to call it quits.  Are you sure you trust me?  If you don’t then we are wasting
our time here.”  He was looking at me in speculation, with just a hint of
flirtation in his eyes.  I squared my shoulders and glared at him.

“I don’t trust
you farther than the end of my nose right now,” I said testily.  “But Ailis
seems to think you are somehow going to be able to help me stay alive, so I
really don’t have a choice in the matter.”

I had somehow
unconsciously stood, and I found myself leaning aggressively across the table
almost shouting at the angelic looking vampire in front of me.  Taking a breath
I backed down
.  Angel of death maybe.
  No need for anymore stupidity
today.  Apparently I was good at pushing everyone’s buttons without even
trying.  When was I ever going to learn?

He only nodded
calmly.  “Ailis is a good friend,” he said softly.  “I will help you in any way
I can.”

“The first thing
you need to learn is resistance,” he informed me in a business-like way.  “If
you can’t resist our power, then your other abilities are of no use to you.  It
doesn’t matter how well you fight, if you are just going to give up before you
get the chance.”  I nodded reluctantly.  I hadn’t even thought of fighting him
just now.  I had been too wrapped up in the feeling of that beautifully dark
aura.

Dominic seemed
to sense my thoughts.  He arched an eyebrow at me and I shrugged.  I was done
reprimanding myself at this point.  I couldn’t help how I reacted to him and he
damn well knew it.

He spent the
rest of our session together attempting to put me under sway, with varying
levels of success.  I had been terrified the first time, afraid that he would
lose control again, however he appeared to be completely in control now that he
knew what to expect.  He attempted simple harmless commands for now, ordering
me to do things like stand up or walk across the yard.  I did fairly well at
first, only following part of a command before breaking free, but the longer we
were at it the harder it got.  After half an hour of practice, he ended our
session when I walked to him and knelt at his feet, sweeping my hair aside and
baring my throat as instructed.

The moment he
lifted his will I jumped up and glared at him with hatred.  I was mostly pissed
at myself, but he was a more convenient target.  I opened my mouth to shout at
him, but he stopped me before I could get started.

“You just need
more practice.  Your endurance will increase with time.”  He smirked and I
resisted the urge to kick him someplace soft.  The bastard was laughing at me.

The screen door
banged shut and I saw Ailis making her way toward us.  She took one glance at
Dominic’s face and my seething anger and stopped in her tracks.  “Things going
well?” she asked with repressed mirth.  I gave her a dirty look too, before
sitting down at the table.
Damned vampires
.  Ailis plunked down beside
me and I put my head down on my folded arms.  My life was really getting
ridiculous.

Dominic crossed
to us, bowed mockingly to me, and addressed Ailis.  “She did very well for the
first attempt.  I think she
may
live through this whole thing.”  I
snorted at that less than comforting remark, but Ailis merely nodded.

“Thank you for
your help Dominic,” she said sincerely, inclining her head respectfully.  “I
owe you.”  He flipped his hand in a never-mind gesture before turning to
leave.  I watched him go with a mixture of relief and apprehension.  Could I
really pull this off?  My life expectancy was not looking good when I would
willingly go to a vampire and kneel at his feet like a nice little fruit
basket.

Ailis waited
until we heard Dominic’s car speed away before she spoke.  “So what happened?”
I looked at her in question and she rolled her eyes in exasperation.
“Something has you all upset, I can sense it.”  Her eyes flashed from dove gray
to silver briefly.  “I can smell it.  You’re like a chocolate chip cookie fresh
out of the oven.”

I shook my head
in exasperation.  I was exhausted from the repeated mental battle that I had
been doing with Dominic for the last hour or so.  I looked at her accusingly.
“You
said
he didn’t like women.”

She raised her
eyebrows.  “He doesn’t.  He mostly prefers the company of men, thanks to her
Highness
.”
I noticed the bitterness in her voice and wondered if she had hated the woman
for her cruelty, or if she was angry because she was interested in Dominic.

I shook my head
and explained to her what had happened at the beginning of our session.  When I
had finished explaining, I looked up to find her watching me in fascination.
All she said was, “Really?”

“He said there
was something different about my blood-that he could smell it without breaking
the skin.”  I saw Ailis glance away and my suspicion increased.  “What was he
talking about Ailis?”

She heaved a
sigh.  “It’s just that your blood is different, somehow.”  She shrugged “I
don’t know why, but you taste different.”  Her eyes went distant in memory.
“Like liquid fire.”

So I was a big
old atomic fireball candy for vampires.
Yay
.

Chapter 18

Ailis and I put
out the torches and went to bed.  I slipped into my short black silk nightie,
just in case Christian got here early tomorrow, and fell headfirst onto my
bed.  Fighting off the mental advances of a powerful vampire had made me feel
like I was a hundred years old.  I was more exhausted than I had ever been in
my life, and my head felt like someone was hammering away at my skull with a
pick-axe.  I barely had enough energy left to turn off my light before I
blacked out.

I woke the next
morning feeling cold.  I groped for my blanket without opening my eyes.  I was
doing everything I could to go back to sleep, still feeling groggy and unwell,
despite sleeping like a rock all night.  I couldn’t find the edge of the quilt
anywhere, so
I finally gave up.  I rolled over onto my side and curled
into the fetal position, willing myself to go back to sleep.  Something tickled
the bottom of my foot and I squirmed and flopped onto my back, rubbing my foot
against the bed.  I could have roaches in my bed for all I cared.  I was
going.  Back.  To.
Sleep
.

The tickling
sensation returned, moving up the back of my leg and behind my knee.  I heaved
myself upright violently, swatting at my leg only to let out a shriek as my
arms were caught firmly and I found myself looking into a pair of mischievous
emerald green eyes.

Christian was
kneeling over my legs wearing nothing but a towel, his glorious black hair
still damp from the shower.  The soft smell of my shampoo wafted from him as I
gave up the fight and went limp, collapsing backwards toward my bed again.
Christian followed me down, laughing.  He kept his grip on my wrists and we
ended with him lying on me, pinning my arms above my head.  I closed my eyes
and squirmed experimentally, finding myself to be firmly pinned.

Christian took
both my wrists into one large hand and leaned in to nibble at my neck.  I
obligingly tilted my head back with a sigh and he reached back and pulled off
his towel with his free hand.  He then lifted his hips and rucked up my
nightgown, grinning from ear to ear when he discovered my lack of
undergarments.

Releasing my
arms, he slid his hands behind my head and kissed me deeply as he nudged my
thighs apart with his knee.  He slipped one hand under my hip to lift me to
him.  The other wrapped in my hair, pulling my head back so that my eyes met
his.  He slid into me in one, slow, sure stroke and I cried out in pleasure and
surprise.  His warm power over my skin and I wrapped my legs around his hips,
moaning at the sensation as I drew him closer.

I still felt
sleepy and unreal and his aura made me feel like I was floating.  I snapped
back to reality when he pressed deeper and my body convulsed.  I came in big
wracking waves as he continued to stroke slow and deep.  I cried out and he
plunged inside me hard.  The tingling sensation in my stomach rose as his
control on his power slipped a bit and I felt it radiating inside me.

He shifted our
position suddenly, rolling so that I was on top, with his giant cock still
clutched firmly inside me.  He pulled me up so that he slipped out and the
length of his rock hard erection lay pressed along my clit.  Pulling me down,
he took one breast into his hot, wet mouth and he grasped my ass.  He pulled me
gently up and down the length of him as he sucked harder and harder on my
breast.  I moaned in pleasure and need as he rubbed against me, bringing me to
the edge again.

I sat up and
slipped him inside, gasping as I found that I couldn’t take it all.  I had to
lean forward slightly, putting my breasts within easy reach.

Christian
laughed at me softly as he realized my difficulty.  He guided my hips with one hand
as the other caressed my breasts, squeezing gently as he ran his tongue over my
sensitive nipples.  He reached up and pulled me down to kiss me deeply before
looking into my eyes.

“Let me use my
aura,” he growled.  I stared at him in confusion.  I had told him never to use
his power on me again, but the need in his voice went straight to my core,
making my body tremble.  I looked into his eyes for a moment before nodding my
consent.

His eyes flashed
and began to glow.  All at once I felt a wash of red-hot power hit me as he
released his tight control.  His aura was red.  It was heat, and passion, life,
and lust and violence all wrapped up in one.  I felt warm all over and I was
overwhelmed with sexual need.  I wanted him to take me in every way possible.
I wanted him to use me like the beast that he was. More than that, I wanted to
own him.  Fierce possession echoed through me.  He was mine.

He urged my hips
back with his hands and I went willingly, crying out as I took it all.  I felt
impaled.  The pain was transmuted to pleasure and I cried out as I came again,
riding him in wild abandon, urging him to lose himself in me.  He crushed me to
him and flipped me over onto my back.  This time he lifted my legs so they
rested on his shoulders as he plunged into me again driving in so deep that I
knew it should hurt- but it didn’t.  All I felt was this all consuming need to
feel him deeper inside me, to pull him in.

He drew my arms
above my head again, holding me down as he hammered me harder and harder.  I
screamed his name as the power coursing over me climaxed, feeling him pour into
me as we orgasmed together.

I came back to
myself a few moments later.  Christian was still inside me and the long, damp
tendrils of his hair curled over us like a curtain.  He eased himself from me
and I cried out again as an aftershock of pleasure rippled over my sensitive
skin.

He laughed and
kissed my forehead drawing me to him so that we lay curled on our sides, his
huge body wrapped around me.  “I missed you too,” he whispered against
forehead, then dropped a gentle kiss there.  I drifted off to sleep again in a
haze of warm contentment.

I woke again
sometime later feeling much more refreshed than the last time.  The headache
from the night before was completely gone.  I slipped out of bed and headed for
the shower, rinsing off briefly before donning my swimsuit.  It was a glorious
day outside and I intended to enjoy it.  Wrapping my bathrobe around myself, I
padded out to the kitchen, drawn by the mouthwatering sent of pasta sauce.  I
found Christian manning the stove, and I laughed.  He was wearing faded jeans
and an old well worn t-shirt.  He had found an old apron somewhere in the back
of my linen closet that said, “Kiss the cook,” in big pink letters.  My kitchen
was strewn with miscellaneous cooking paraphernalia and my sink was over
flowing with dishes.

I slipped my
arms around him from behind and rested my head against his smooth muscular
back, inhaling the rich aroma of tomatoes and spices.  “Good afternoon, sweetheart.
Welcome to the world of the waking,” he said mockingly, his deep voice rumbling
up through his chest.  I didn’t usually sleep this late, but yesterday had been
exhausting.
