Kyla shuddered and shook her shaggy fur over the floor as she contemplated the show of strength in her partner’s back. Damien’s shoulders, thickly muscled, were roped with veins and glistened with the gold complexion of her homeland. His back tapered into a small waist and sharply defined buttocks. His sex had disappeared now that he’d turned away, but she knew it sat heavy against a thigh as muscled as the rest of his body. Those large thighs gave way to elegant calves and feet.

An amazing package that made her pant for more than water, except she had the small problem of being a Werewolf and he wasn’t.

The water stopped its pounding in the shower, and Kyla laid her head back on the floor, ignoring her pulsing blood. She had work to do and her favorite part of her job was about to start. Damien strode naked toward the bed and stepped over Kyla with a grin and a pat before slipping under the sheets.

It wouldn’t be long and she’d change into human form. Five minutes later, her partner was snoring the sleep of the ignorant. She’d never seen anyone drift into sleep so quickly in her life, and that was a long time.

Kyla stood and backed out of the room. She focused on the change. An electric shiver ripped through her leaving an orgasmic trail of sensation. Her claws gripped the carpet and retracted until fingers were in their place. Muscles thickened, sinews twisted round and flashed up and down. Fur shed and disappeared like magic. Her body elongated, grew more substantial. Skin now raced over her body, covering her like an expensive piece of silk. Her pointed muzzle retracted, fangs and all. It left a monstrous hybrid of both animal and human for a scant second then reformed back into a human’s nose and mouth.

Ears shortened, rounded. Fur gave way to long, black hair in a ponytail. The two things she kept in the change, that never differed from human to wolf, were her medallion and her silver streak of hair. The bronze medallion with a carving of an owl and a wolf let everyone know she was in service to Artemis as a personal guard. Her hair, on the other hand, was a long silver streak from just over her left ear to the tips of her hair, courtesy of a murderous park ranger. He’d shot a silver crossbow at her. It grazed her, but the silver streak of its path had never healed.

Kyla stood and stretched. Bones popped as they slipped into place. She fought back the moan of pleasure. Puppies couldn’t control themselves when they were new to the change. It always left the animal sexually charged. The pups tended to want to have sex or masturbate straight after, but adults had more control—although it still felt amazing.

Heading for the bedroom, she was glad she’d chosen to be nude this time. When a wolf grew older and more comfortable with the process, they could choose to be clothed or naked at the end of a transformation. It made no difference to her, but she needed flesh on flesh touch to control her subject. Everyone had one talent that he or she honed specifically and she was a dreamer. She could enter others’ dreams and control the outcome—or leave messages or warnings, or even wake them from comas or unconsciousness. It came in handy in the aftermath of a battle or fight.

Kyla moved closer to the bed, jerking at her reflection in the bedroom mirror. It was always a shock when she saw herself. She expected to see the wolf, not a six-foot-tall, skinny woman with black hair and silver eyes that matched the streak in her hair. Shaking off her thoughts, Kyla leaned over Damien and ran a sharp nail down the pectoral muscle onto his flat, ribbed stomach. He stirred—all of him—but didn’t wake.

“That’s it, baby. Just dream, it’s in your head.” She crooned to him as she eased up onto the bed and curled into him, flesh anointing flesh. She smiled and placed a hand on his stomach and eased deeper into the bed.
Now let’s see what’s on your mind, mortal.

The complete darkness of the dream hit her first. This wasn’t a fantasy or a remembered event. This was a black hole of nothing. Stretching to her full height in the dream, she moved forward. Elements of shadow sucked at her hands as she smoothed her path in front of her. Out of nowhere, a large hand grabbed hold of her wrist and pulled her tight against a large male body. The lights clicked on, and Kyla blinked at the suddenness of life again.

“Shh. We have to watch. Have to know what happens.”

Startled, Kyla stared up at a face she had gotten used to over the last two weeks—Damien’s.

What the hell was going on here? She should be the one controlling the dream, not him. Concentrating on her surroundings, she realized, with a snap of shock, this was the alley where the last victim was found. She stopped moving as a figure shambled into sight.

God, what was that? A figure cowled in night shuffled forward again, stooped over, deformed. No. She looked further, not stooped or deformed, just carrying something. The something twitched and moaned a high-pitched shriek of agony that scratched down her spine. Not something, her charge. Her wolf. Kyla heard Damien inhale as together they watched the creature dump the skinned victim unceremoniously on the ground.

“Thank you. You’ve served your purpose. They’ll know me soon. Won’t be able to deny me any longer.”

The killer’s voice battered away at both her and Damien. Scraped away at them with sharp, rotting claws. Harsh, grating tones shrieked and froze all thought.

The figure at the foot of the murderer let out a louder moan as the shadow man knelt next to him in a sharp movement that belied his deformed look. “You have to be quiet a bit longer. They can’t find you right now. My watchdog isn’t here yet. So why don’t you be silent?”

Her eyes widened with horror as she watched the demonic figure sketch something in the air above his victim and left without a backward glance. She grabbed Damien’s arm, turned him in the villain’s direction and pushed his mind to watch. All they saw was a large truck parked in a waiting zone near the alley. A movement, a darker patch in the shadows, caught her attention. Was there someone there? An accomplice? Kyla squinted, but failed to spot anything. She gave up. No evil, menacing figure, just the unmarked truck as it drove off.

“What are the odds that belongs to our killer?”

Kyla shot a glance at Damien. He didn’t realize he’d even spoken to her. He knew she was here, but he thought this was still a dream. She didn’t know what the Hades had happened, but Damien was no ordinary man. This was no fantastical dream. He’d pictured what had happened, not what might have been.

Without warning, the surroundings dropped away again to nothingness, and she held Damien’s bare arm—an arm that was trying to slide around her. A hand that was stroking her.
Oh, no.

“Ah, Damien. You should wake up and remember that dream. It’s important.” Kyla tried to back away, but Damien had her anchored still. She might be strong in real life, but in the dream, it was mental power and talent that counted. She suspected Damien might have both in abundance.

“You’re in my dream. I don’t want to wake up unless we’re in bed together.”

Without warning, the emptiness receded to a dream copy of his bedroom and both of them were lying naked in the bed. This was starting to imitate real life and she had no control, no dominance. Fear grabbed at her stomach and caused a cramp. Her heart sped up as she tried to twist away.

“Please, I won’t hurt you.”

Damien stroked a large hand along her arm. Kyla shuddered at the wealth of feeling. This was the same as a change, the same liquid surge of wonder. Excitement charged through her blood. Her heart rate accelerated, the beats tripping over each other. Heat and liquid pooled between her thighs and she saw Damien was reacting as well.
Whoa there, boy. You might be human, but you’re built like a wolf
.

“I can smell you. You’re hot, heated. You want me as much as I do you.”

Goggling at Damien’s words, she tried again to break his grip on her mind and body. Damn, now he was talking like a wolf. She could smell the intense arousal thickening in the room, but he shouldn’t be able to.

He reached over and smoothed a finger over a pink, pointed nipple. Kyla jerked as jagged heat shot to her core. He sealed her mouth with his, initiating a fevered dance with the advance and retreat of his tongue. She reached around him and stroked his back. Her fingers lingered on ridged muscles.

Damien took that for assent and shifted deeper on top of her mouth, angling for better access. He moved his hands along a path to her nipples again, tweaking and pinching, arousing Kyla to a fevered pitch. Growling into his mouth, she trailed her open hands to his cock and reached for the large handful. God, handful was right.

She tightened her hands around his velvet length in time to the strokes of his punishing fingers. He slid one hand up her thigh, worshipping the soft skin there. She drew in a shaky breath and arched her back. She pushed a leg over his, opening herself to him. Taking the advantage, he drove a finger into her slick insides, and she screamed as powerful urges rushed through her with the finesse of a freight train.

“Oh, shit. This shouldn’t be happening. I’m supposed to be in charge, and this wasn’t the plan.”

Her voice hit high octaves on the last word as he thrust three fingers hard into her tight flesh. The rumble of his laughter vibrated through her, and she wiggled in disgust at her capitulation. She tweaked him in retaliation and grinned when he released a groan in response.

He kept his hand moving and with the other, pinched her tight nipple, hard. An orgasm thundered through her, hammering every thought from her head. He pulled his hands back and positioned himself so his cock nudged at her entrance. The thick head slid slightly into her wet sex as he pushed aside her folds.

Kyla’s drugged senses snapped into place as she realized what was happening. “Oh, shit. I’m dead meat if this happens. Hey, buddy. Get that thing away from me.”

She watched as Damien tried to shrug off her words. This was not good. There were rules against dipping the wick—so to speak—without approval. The boss didn’t want any more hybrids. They were unpredictable and way too powerful. Kyla concentrated on reality and the bed as she slammed her mind into Damien’s. The dream wavered, growing indistinct at the edges, and she rammed home all the pent-up sexual energy from their encounter. His mind gave and with a thump, they were back into reality.

A reality that began with Damien’s cock, in real life, about to dig a probe into her own tender flesh.

Days like these, work sucked.

Chapter Two

Kyla couldn’t believe that Damien had overpowered her mind and body enough to be initiating sex. Scooting back, she cursed as she realized she still had to give him her message. She grabbed his hand and placed it on her breast. Might as well give him a thrill, and she was naked anyway. Establishing contact again, she drove him under into sleep and slipped back inside his dream.

“Where did you go? What’s wrong?”

Damien’s deep voice echoed through her again, causing ripples of heat to lap at her.
Down girl, you have had more than enough for one night. It’s time to get to work
.

“Look, bud. That wasn’t supposed to happen and I don’t know how you did that, but I’ve got some stuff about the case to tell you.” Kyla evaded his questing hand and stood sternly, hands on hips, giving him her no-nonsense glare. “Okay, here’s the deal and listen good—because I’m telling you this once.” She waited for his nod before continuing. “The victim is one of mine. I want in on the investigation. Here’s what I know. The perp is targeting my crew for some reason, so I figure my boss must know them. It’s a matter of time before I find them. Meanwhile, you need to keep an eye out for anything and report it back to me. Got it, stud?”

“Who the hell are you? And I have a name—although thanks for the compliment.”

“Name’s Kyla Lykos, but you won’t remember that. Just think of me as one of your workmates. I work in security and I

m telling you, you’re out of your league. Now here’s a tip I’ll give you. Work on the truck you saw. There’s something strange about it. Might be a lead. Now, why don’t you go back to sleep and try not to poke anything while you sleep? You could take someone’s eye out.”

Kyla listened to Damien’s cursing as she reinforced her order for him to sleep. Once he was under, she withdrew from his mind and back into her body. Letting go of his hand, she looked down and tried not to laugh as she saw that he—ever the eternal optimist—was still trying to nudge his way in.

“Not this time, buddy.” After easing out of bed, she moved away from him and tried to get her head back in the game. What was she saying—not this time? Not
anytime
. If her boss caught her, the results wouldn’t be good. And she had no urge to spend the rest of her long life looking like a pretzel.

Damien murmured her name in his sleep, and Kyla froze. Crap, he still remembered. He should be out for another hour at least. Not good. There was something about this sleeping man she couldn’t put her finger on. He had to be very powerful to combat her wishes and remember her name. Damien twitched and moved restlessly, fighting her order to sleep.
Shit, well, it looked like she was about to find out just how much he remembered.
Kyla transformed back to her wolf state and waited to see how much he knew.

* * * *

Damien jerked out of his restless sleep with a groan. “Crap, what sort of dream was that? Bloody murder and that alley and the next thing I know, I’m back here, having almost-sex with a stranger then she’s lecturing me on my case?”

He rubbed his hands through his hair. Damn, she had been amazing. Tall, muscled and that dark hair and silver eyes. He felt like he’d met her somewhere before.

He saw his canine partner watching him. “Hey there, Wolf. You keeping an eye on me? You catch the number of the chick who crawled into my dreams?” Damien grinned as his partner stared back. If he didn’t know better, he would think she was shocked. Most people were taken aback by his Wolf when they saw her, but she was a highly trained wolf-dog crossbreed and he wouldn’t trade her for the world.
