“Okay, Daddy.” I gasp and scoot back in the bed.

I love how he’s making me wait. The longer I wait the hotter it feels between my legs. I am so focused on Jeff that I
barely remember my sister is right across the hallway Part of me hopes that she’s fallen asleep and stays asleep. Another part of me wonders if she can hear us.

Jeff unzips his blue jeans. He has on a tight pair of briefs. I clamp my legs together because my legs are trembling.

“You like that?” he asks. “You want this?”

He slides in bed and reaches for my nipples, caressing them through my bra. I close my eyes and move my mouth until it finds his. He opens his mouth and inserts his tongue deep. I love how Jeff cradles me in his arms while kissing me. It feels like he loves me. I moan and squirm. His tongue is so long I feel like choking. And his lips are so thick. I place my mouth over his bottom lip and suck on it. His hands move down my thighs, stroking me with fervor. We kiss and explore each other’s mouths. I come up for air.

“You about ready to turn off that light?” I ask.

“Let’s do it with the lights on. It makes things more intense.”

“Maybe for you.”

“Why are you looking like that? You don’t want me to see your body?”

“I just feel more comfortable in the dark.”

“But I want to see and feel what I’m getting, you got it?”

I smile but wonder why he insists on having his way so much. He stares down at me and breaks into a grin, like he’s admiring me. I unsnap my bra.

“Hey, that tat looks good, Beautiful Girl. I love that you had so much faith in me, and in us. Your tat proves it. M and J. Marlene and Jeff. That means a lot to me. Sometimes I don’t realize how good I have it.”

“Why do you say that?”

“Because, woman. I hustle so much that it takes a lot for me to slow down and think about my life. To really count up
my blessings and know good things are happening. I like that you’re down for me, Marlene. You don’t bitch and moan and kick me to the curb when I screw up.”

“Oh, you’re talking about how you’ve slipped lately?”

“But, see, you understand how it is for a man. We are under a lot of pressure. I have all these mortgages to pay. Folks are acting funny with their money. The economy is starting to suck. And people don’t always want to do right. But when I know my girl is holding it down for me, that makes me feel like I can relax a little. You get what I’m saying?” His eyes look sincere, and I am glad that I haven’t gone off on him like I’ve been tempted to do when he’s gotten me upset.

“Jeff, all I ask is that you be respectful. Tell me what’s going on so I won’t have to wonder and worry.”

“You never have to worry. The answer will always be the same.” He looks down at me and kisses my nipple. “I’m working.”

He kisses my stomach. “I’m running after tenants.”

He kisses me on the lips and the kiss lasts longer than normal. “And I’m thinking about the next time I can be with you.”

“It all sounds good, but my mama told me to always watch what a man says. She says you know he’s real if his actions line up with his words.”

“Your mother is always saying a lot, but what does she have to show for all her words? You told me what happened to her. How she let your dad pop her upside her head.”

“Hey, now wait a minute—”

“Hold on, you look so cute when you’re mad. I’m just telling the truth. Most women who nag out men are women who don’t have a man, or they’re having big-time problems with their man. A woman in a truly fulfilled relationship is not going to constantly give all these warnings about men.”

“Yeah, but—”

“But nothing. Be quiet, or else I’m going to put something on you.” He pulls off his underwear and reaches for his pants pocket. Retrieves a condom packet and places it on the bed next to us.

“I love you, but I’m not ready to have a baby with you or anybody else.”

I sit up. “What do you mean with anybody else? Who else is there?”

He pushes me back down on the bed and gets on top of me. He starts kissing me on my neck and running his hands through my hair. I try to move my legs so he falls off, but he stays on me, locking me down with his arms and legs.

“Don’t get away from me. I’ve been waiting all day for this. I’ve missed you, Marlene. Got it? Now lay back and relax so your man can get you off.”

Oh, wow, sounds intriguing. I forget about what I’m mad at, and I lay back in anticipation. He moves his head down until his face is between my legs.

“Are you sure you don’t want to turn off the lights?”

“Shhh.” He sticks out his tongue and starts licking and kissing my vagina.

“Oh my goodness,” I gasp.

“You taste deliciously sweet. Like a lollipop.” He continues going down on me. I grab a pillow and place it on top of my face. I pump my hips, twisting and turning, trying to lock in that good feeling so it can last as long as possible. He’s only the second man ever to go down on me. And Jeff is so good at this I gotta think twice. My mama said if you can find a man who has a Ph.D. in eating twat, then make sure that man is at the top of your list. And you’d better not ever tell another woman how good he is at eating you out. It’ll be like a neighborhood dog letting the other dogs know where he
can get free food. Every other dog would be trying to hang out at that spot, too. So I forget about any issue I’ve wanted to discuss with Jeff. I enjoy having him between my legs, making me moan, shake, and tremble with indescribable pleasure.

“Oh, Jesus,” I start screaming, my lips pressed into the pillow that covers my face.

“Are you coming, Marlene?”

“Yes, Jeff, yes.”

“I can’t hear you. Marlene, pull that pillow off your face and let me know who’s making you come.”

I snatch the pillow off my face and tilt my head. “Jeffrey Williams is making me come. Ahh, ahh, ahhh.” I yell so loud that at first Jeff looks startled. Then his eyes enlarge. I keep screaming and jerking so much I feel him beginning to smile like he’s proud of how loud he made me scream.

“Damn, I didn’t know it was that good. You been holding in some stress, baby?”

“Ohhh, Jeff, mmm.” My hands tremble like I’m standing outside butt naked in freezing temperature. “Hold me, please,” I moan.

“Wait a sec,” he says. Jeff hops up and goes to my bedroom door, opens it, peeps out, then jumps back in the bed. The door is still open. He’s propped next to me, looking down at me and grinning with unbelievable joy. I guess he’s proud because he made me come so violently.

“Let’s keep going. You ready for round two?”

“Jeff, you gotta be kidding.”

“No, Beautiful Girl. You inspire me.”

“You wear me out. I’m sleepy.”

“Really? Damn. Brother got skills, huh?”

“Mad skills, Jeff. I feel sticky and wet, though, like I want to take a quick shower.”

“O-okay. I’ll be waiting for you right here.”

It takes me a few seconds to muster up enough strength to even sit up. I want to run and tell someone about how Jeff and I have fantastic sex, but who can I tell? Not a soul. This is something that I’ll have to keep to myself.

“Need some help?”

I nod.

Jeff grabs me by the shoulders and pulls me into a sitting position.

“Damn girl, you’re making my head swell. And I’m not talking about the head on my shoulders.”

“Oh, Jeff,” I say, blushing. “You’re a nasty man.”

“But you’re nastier than me. Looks like a raw egg was just cracked and opened on your privates.”

“What?”

“It’s really nasty looking down there. Go get in the shower.” He hops out of bed and goes straight to his PDA. He presses a button and I hear it powering up. Several rings chime out one after another.

“Damn, who’s been calling, e-mailing?” He frowns. “Must be tenants.”

He stands up and absentmindedly slides on his underwear while reading a message at the same time.

“Hey, why are you getting dressed?” I pout. He ignores me. “After I shower, don’t you want to cuddle and go another round like you said?”

He sits back on the other side of the bed. Reads his PDA. Starts smiling and talking to himself. Frustrated, I roll out of the bed and walk to him. Put my hands on my hips and clear my throat. He acts like I’m not even there. His eyes look glassy and bright. I reach out and snatch his phone from his hand.

He has seventeen Yahoo messages. I try to click on a message from a HoneyBrownTX, but Jeff rips the phone from out my hand.

“What the hell is your problem? Never mess with a black man’s phone. That’s like messing with my money. With my car.”

“With your woman?” I ask with attitude. “Who is Honey-Brown whatever her name is?”

“Stay out of my phone, Marlene. You’re going too far.”

“What did you call me?”

“What? I said Marlene. It’s not like I called you a bitch. Or a nosy-ass bitch.”

“Jeffrey Williams, what is your problem?”

“No, no, no. Don’t put this on me. We just had a great time in bed. You were screaming my name. And now you gotta mess up the moment because you’re insecure? This is wack.” He is screaming louder than I was when I was having an orgasm. He must be out of his mind. All this drama over some cell phone junk?

My mama always told me if a man acts real defensive and hovers over his cell phone constantly, he’s got something to hide. Because if everything was legit, there’d be no reason to guard your phone like it’s a winning lottery ticket. I don’t like how he’s behaving at all. Come to think of it, whenever we’re together, he always has one hand on that freaking phone. And when we’ve been out at a restaurant, he’ll excuse himself several times. His phone will be glued to his hand. No man has to pee that many times in that short a period. I asked him if he has a weak bladder one time. He looked at me like I was crazy. Asked me what I’m asking him personal questions like that for. And I was too shocked to even reply. So I never asked about his stupid bladder again.

“Jeffrey, please lower your voice—”

“No, Marlene. The problem is not my voice. You gotta respect the boundaries, man. Respect other people’s property. It’s the golden rule.”

“The golden rule is do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” I spit back.

“Bingo, Marlene. If you don’t want me snooping into your shit, then don’t peep into mine. Everyone knows that.”

“My mama said—”

“Fuck your mama. She just needs to get dicked down anyway. That’s her problem. I’ve met women like her before. Old, horny, and mad as fuck. Mad cause the dick isn’t rock hard as it used to be.”

“Shut up talking about my mother like that. You don’t know her like that.”

“Marlene, you don’t know who I know or what I know. I know that much.”

“And stop calling me Marlene. I’m Beautiful Girl.” I’m in his face rotating my neck and wagging my finger. I’ve never seen him look so mad before. He’s breathing hard, and his mouth is all pointed like he’s a nasty-looking rat.

My head is spinning. I sit down. “You hear what I said. If your golden rule is not touching your property, then you should know my property is my family. My mama. Keep her name out of your mouth.”

“Fine. Done deal. I don’t like hearing what she has to say, anyway. Loser.”

I lose it. Hop up so fast that I twist my ankle and crumple to the floor. “Oww. See what you’ve done, Jeff.”

“I haven’t done anything.” He looks down at me, like he’s safe and I’m vulnerable. And I know then that even the best sex in the world can’t get rid of deep problems a couple may
experience. Orgasms won’t stop arguments. I think my orgasm caused an argument. And now my ankle is starting to ache with a nagging pain.

“Jeff, it hurts. I’m talking really hurts.” I look up at him. The anger in his eyes lessens. He reaches out his free hand to me and pulls me up off the floor. I limp over to the bed.

“Lie down,” he commands.

I lie back. He arranges the pillows so that I feel more comfortable. He examines my ankle, briefly rubs his fingers across the swelling. He reaches down, glances at me, then kisses my toes.

“That feel better … Beautiful Girl?”

I nod, thankful that he’s not acting like a butthole. I’m still naked. And I hate the creamy wet feeling that is in between my legs and spread out like little dots on my thighs.

“I really need to take a shower.”

“All right, go ahead.”

“Do you want to take one with me?”

“What?”

“Jeff, we’ve never showered together. It’ll be fun.”

“I dunno. I gotta roll out,” he says.

“You always rolling out, running here and there. Slow down, Jeff. Those houses aren’t going anywhere. I wanted to spend more time with you.”

“I dunno—”

“Plus you stink too. You smell like penis and p—”

“Okay, okay.” He says yes, but he looks mad. I don’t care. We ought to do what I want to do for a change. Why I always gotta do things the Jeffrey Williams way, anyway? Sure, I know I said I’d do it. But my feelings are different now from when we first met. It’s obvious he likes me as much as I like him. That I don’t doubt. But he could stand to be more
giving, less self-centered. Especially since he gets whatever he asks of me. Time, sex, money, treats, love, and attention. Surely I deserve the same things.

He helps me get out of bed.

“Get my robe, please. It’s in the closet.” He places his PDA on the bed for a second, but then picks it back up. He goes to my closet and finds my sky blue silk robe. He helps me put my arms through the sleeves, and he even puts down his PDA for a minute so he can secure the belt around my waist. He looks lovingly down at me and kisses my lips.

“That feel better, Beautiful Girl?”

“Much better, boyfriend.”

He stiffens then offers a dazed smile. “C’mon,” he says, patting me on the butt. “Let’s go get washed up. But after that, I’m serious, I got to go. Something’s come up, and you know me. I’m always about my business.”

“Hmm.”

“Please, don’t be like that. I thought you said that’s one of the qualities you love about me. Has that changed? Do you still love me, Beautiful Girl?”

Oh, God, why is he doing this to me? I tilt back my head, stare up into his beautiful eyes, and nod. He smiles and plants small kisses on my cheeks and forehead. I giggle and move back. “Stop it. I can smell myself. Let’s go. Now.”
