She said, Writer, you can't just go moving me wherever you want. I looked at her and responded with uh yeah I can, you are my fiance now and you aren't leaving my side again, understood? I then leaned down, claiming her mouth, and when I broke away, she was sagging against me with heavy lidded eyes. Ever then conceded to what I wanted and nothing else was said about it.
As soon as Crazy Girl had the car stopped I was out and opening Ever's door, picking her up, carrying her right through the clubhouse and into our room. I've been waiting on her hand and foot since then and I couldn't be happier. Ever keeps my mind occupied so I don't really think too much about the drugs anymore. I'm just happy as fuck to have my girl back. We have talked a lot since the hospital and I believe we are stronger than before.
I am the last to take my seat at the table as Hanger starts.
“Alright guys, a lot has happened in the last two weeks so we need to catch Writer up. First, let's go over the titty club. Hacker has named it Stilettos and it is now up and running. We invested twenty-five percent into it and since opening, it has brought in a fuck load of money.
Second is that we are still working with Runaway Tattoo and we put another twenty-five into the recording studio. We already own the garage so that leaves twenty-five to be put somewhere. Writer, we need you to ask City if we can invest in her store.”
Yeah I can do that. I don't see her having a problem with it.
Ever loves these guys as much as I do, there's no way she won't help.
Hanger goes on.
“Good. Demon has been running all the books so we still need to find someone for that. Everything looks good on the money side. We still have our shipments and products at the Cobras compound and it can stay there for awhile. There have been no calls on us since we got the girls back.
That brings us to the next topic of discussion. Jacey has informed us that Deuce, Snake's VP, is one of the guys involved in the kidnapping. He is the one that got away and has now taken the Four Kings into hiding. We are looking for them and so are the Cobras.”
I jump in.
Wait, so when Deuce ran, he went to the Four Kings and took over? He became the new president? Since there hasn't been any calls on us, do you think it was them?
Hanger nods his head.
“Yeah, it's looking that way, but we don't think that they are working alone. We think that they got help from an outsider. Does anyone have anything to add?”
I hold up my hand.
I need to talk to you guys about something.
Hanger moves his hand in the air in a sweeping motion, letting me know it's okay.
There's one more thing I need to settle before I can fully move on. I need to go see my parents and I need a couple of you to go with me.
“Are you sure about this, Writer? Am I gonna need Jenkins in on it, and who did you have in mind?”
Hanger asks with a perplexed look.
I know he doesn't understand why I would want to go back, but I need to do this for me.
Yes, Hanger, I'm sure I gotta do this, brother. I wanna leave tonight. We need to take a cage so no one hears motorcycles, and put hoodies on. Don't let your cuts show and bring gloves. I'll text you when it's done to let you know about Jenkins, and I want Romeo and Hunter with me.
“Romeo and Hunter, you good on going?”
I look over at both guys and see the nods. I knew they would be.
“Alright get ready and leave tonight. Be careful and text me when it's done. Now, church is over, get outta here.”
Hanger brings the gavel down on the table.
When I get back to my room, Ever is sleeping so I get my sketchpad and pencil out, pull up my desk chair, sit down and then I start to draw the masterpiece that is my woman.
★★★
A few hours later, I lay the drawing on my pillow. Ever is still passed out from her pain medication. I walk over to my closet, grabbing my black hoodie. I remove my cut, placing it over my desk chair, then I slip the hoodie on over my head. Next, I grab my small duffle bag out of the closet that has my 9mm and silencer with black gloves in it. I lay that by the door and walk back over to Ever.
I bend down in front of her, running my hand over her head and moving the hair that's fallen on her face. I kiss her forehead, and she starts to stir, then opens her eyes. She gives me a confused look as she takes in the hoodie.
It's okay Sugar, go back to sleep. I have some club business to do then I'll be back.
Ever nods her head before her eyes close once more.
I walk out into the bar to see Hunter and Romeo waiting and dressed just how I asked.
Okay guys, you ready to do this?
They look down at my bag then give me a nod. We are about to walk out the door when Bear stops us.
“I got you an unmarked car from the garage and I put a fake tag on it. The tank is full and I checked to make sure everything was working properly with it. You guys should be good to go and be undetected. If you need anything, text and I'll be there brother. Be safe.”
Thanks Bear.
I give him a tight smile as I turn and leave.
Romeo gets in the driver's side, where the keys are already in the ignition. I tap him on the shoulder then let him know I wanna make one stop before we go to my parents’ house and I tell him where to go.
I walk into Runaway Tattoo with Hunter right behind me Audrey is at the desk as usual, so I pull out my pen and paper. I ask for Daphne, then she nods and goes to get her. When Daphne gets to the front, the smile takes over her face, then she is hugging me. I put my arms around her, hugging back. It's more of a friendly or brother-sister type of hug, and when we pull away, she leads me to her office.
I sit on the opposite side of the desk and she immediately pulls out paper and a pen, then starts writing.
Daphne:
Writer, it's so good to see you. I've been worried! I haven't seen you in awhile. You look great. What do you need?
Me:
Thanks. A lot has happened. I detoxed, got my girl back, working on getting my life straight, ya know? I wanna come work here.
Daphne:
You wanna work here? Doing what? Can you draw?
Me:
Yes, work here and yes, I can draw. I do a lot of portraits. Maybe, eventually I could start tattooing.
She sits back in her chair, looking at me incredulously for a moment before she writes her answer.
Daphne:
Tell you what, why don't you bring in some of your work tomorrow and I'll take a look? Why didn't you tell me you could draw?
Me:
I don't know. Ever was the only one that did know for awhile, it was always something just for me, ya know. Thanks Daphne.
Daphne:
I understand that. Not a problem. Keep outta trouble.
I laugh while she smiles, then I walk out of her office feeling ecstatic. I walk back out to the car where Hunter and Romeo are waiting. I get in and give Romeo directions on where to go. Now I prepare myself for a much more difficult task, and the fact that I haven't seen my parents in almost nine years.

We pull up onto the side of the road in front of the dilapidated house I grew up in. The street light illuminates the rundown shack, what was supposed to be white paint was peeling off the last time I was here, but now there is none left. All that is left is the wood structure, and even some of the wood is missing from that, plus shingles from the roof have come off. The porch looks to be falling apart and I wonder how this house has not been condemned yet. There is trash all over the yard, with junk piled high on both sides of the house.
I look around at all the other houses on both sides of the street. They are just as bad as my parents’ house. I don't see any lights on in any of the houses. Most have graffiti painted on the outsides, and I realize that all these once occupied homes are now abandoned. It becomes clear that this is what someone would call “crack alley”. It saddens me when I see Mrs. Danver's house just as rundown as the rest. Her house was the only good memory I have from my childhood.
Now my old street has become a squatter’s paradise. They’ll have room and board for free as long as the cops don’t find the homeless sleeping there. I picture it in my head, all the junkies huddled around together in corners, shooting drugs into each others’ arms. I saw it many times in the six months I was on the streets, and I used to be one of those squatters looking for a warm place to lay my head for the night. I never had a problem finding somewhere to sleep, but keeping warm, that was a whole other task.
I pull my hood up over my head before I notice both guys looking at me.
What?
This is where you grew up?
Romeo questions with disbelief in his expression. Hunter looks much the same.
Yeah, are you guys ready? Pull your hoods up and get your gloves on.
I get my own gloves out while they do the same, then I pull my 9mm out and stick it in the back of my waistband. I slip the silencer in the pocket of my hoodie then open the door to get out. The guys are right behind me as we start walking up to the house. No lights are on, but you can see the faint flicker of a candle burning. I see nothing has changed. I knock a couple of times loudly then we wait.
It takes a few minutes, but the door opens and I come face to face with my bastard of a father. All of my emotions that I have ever had towards this man boil to the surface. He looks confused, he is saying something, but I don't know what though. I kick my leg out, throwing the door open the rest of the way and making the piece of shit lose his balance. I take the lead into the house as Romeo and Hunter grab my father.
I turn towards them, point straight ahead, then sign.
The kitchen is straight ahead. Put him in there, in one of the chairs. I'm going to get my mother.
They give me a nod before walking the way I directed them, and they have to step through all the garbage covering the floor on the way. The living room only has one piece of furniture now, one small chair that sits against the far wall. There's no TV, no couch, no nothing. The roaches scramble up the walls, trying to get away from the light. It almost makes me feel sorry for them, how they are living worse than when I was here, but then I remember that they did this shit to themselves.
I take the few steps from the living room to the left where my parents bedroom door is. Opening the door, I first notice the candle that is casting a glow into the room. Holes sporadically cover the walls, with roaches crawling in and out. The nasty little fuckers decorate the place, there are hundreds of thousands of them. Trash is throughout this room too, piled high so you can't see the floor in here either. It's fuckin' disgusting in this place. There’s a single dirty stained up mattress on the floor with my mother passed out on top of it.
I take a moment to just look at her. Her arms are spread out across the mattress and she has a dingy old nightgown on that you can tell hangs off of her. My mother is nothing but skin and bones, she has track marks from her feet all the way up her legs, and her arms are the same, starting at her fingers and going up to her armpits. I can feel the lump in my throat forming and the tears threatening to fall. Her face is almost skeletal like from being sunk in so bad, and her hair is dirty, stringy and looks greasy.
I walk over to the candle, pick it up and walk over then lean down beside the bed. I shake her boney arm, but she is unresponsive so I use my voice trying to wake her.
“Mom.”
I shake her some more, “Mom, Mom wake up.”
Still nothing so I sit the candle back down, then I slide one arm under her back, and the bones of her spine stab into my forearm. I run my fingers over her ribcage, feeling the protruding ribs sticking out. Shaking my head from lack of understanding why anyone would do this to themselves, I pick her up bridal style and carry her into the kitchen, sitting her in a chair next to my father.
She smells like death and decaying flesh mixed with a horrible stench of body odor. The guys have flashlights turned on so we can see, and the kitchen is still the cleanest part of this shithole. I nod my head at Hunter for him to come over and hold her up. When he does, I see his eyes water, then he’s covering up his nose and mouth with the sleeve of his hoodie.
I walk over to the kitchen sink to see if they happen to have water, turning the faucet on, and just what I thought, they don't. I walk back over to everyone, Romeo starts to sign.
This piece of shit wants to know what we are doing here. This is the worst shit I've ever seen, Writer.
I give an evil smile with a nod of my head.
I kneel down on one knee in front of my father, pull the hood back from my head, and stare him down with that evil smile still in place. He has on an old worn out pair of boxer shorts with a yellowed beater full of holes. The smell of body odor coming off of him is horrendous just like it was with my mother. He looks a lot like her, with the fuckin' disgusting hair, sunken face, and track marks. Both of them look like they have aged fifty years instead of just nine, and they look like they are both on the brink of death.
It takes him a second to recognize me, but when he does my father's eyes double in size and he starts fighting against Romeo, moving his mouth quickly. I look up to Romeo, he holds him down with one arm, takes the glove off his free hand then starts signing to me.
He says he is going to kill you. That you were always a worthless piece of shit and a fuckin' pussy bitch.
He winces as he relays what my father has always said to me. I nod while standing back up. I tilt my head left to right, popping my neck and flexing my hands into fists. Raising my arm, I throw one of my lethal punches, connecting to his jaw. Fuck, that felt good.
I use that punch a lot when I fight, laying them fuckers out. My father's head flies to the side then he spits blood out onto the floor before bringing his head back to face me. I pull my 9mm out of the back of my waistband then I pull out the silencer. I screw the silencer on. It won't completely make the shot quiet, but it won't be nearly as loud. I don't want to waste much time because I want to get back to my girl.
