‘Don’t get upset about it,’ Lucy urged. ‘We can stay in touch can’t we?’

‘Of course we can,’ Millie said bracingly. ‘We’ll write to each other all the time, and you can come and visit me.’ She smiled. ‘We’ll always be Nightingale girls, won’t we?’

‘Always,’ Dora said. ‘And, you know, I’ve got a funny feeling we might all be back there one day.’

Millie laughed. ‘What on earth makes you think that?’

‘I dunno,’ she shrugged. ‘Just something makes me think we haven’t seen the last of the Nightingale. And it definitely hasn’t seen the last of us!’
