I missed them, but as I looked over at Scott and Emily, I realized that I had gained so much. I grabbed Scott's hand, then kissed him on the cheek.

I grabbed Emily's hand and whispered, “Elephant shoes.”

She smiled. It was so good to see her smile.

We walked down the halls of Niceville High. Life was moving forward, and it was promising and hopeful. I looked up at Max's, Rachel's, and Jacob's faces and smiled as they faded away like shimmering ghosts.
