When they are thrown together, will she risk her heart and will he turn his back on his people’s traditions, for one chance at love?

Prologue

Norvir has a passion that over shadows everything else in his life. He vows to preserve his planet for future generations and not allow greedy industrialists to cause harm to it like Earth and some other planets have. His plan is to bring specialists and create a plan to secure the planet’s resources and limit harvesting of anything that will affect the ecology of the planet. In order to implement his mission, he is taking a trip to Tellur III. It will be almost like a vacation, the planet is set up to fulfill a guest’s every need and relaxation is guaranteed. The seminars he is attending, will allow him up close and personal with the people he needs to recruit. It will also bring about changes in his life he couldn’t possibly foresee.

Norvir

Chapter 1

Tellur III

Norvir had made it off the planet in secrecy. He didn’t see any possible problems the greedy Earth company would have with them trying to do resource management and put in place rules to prevent pollution. Why would Earth care about anything that would slow Oison’s industrialization? It was a relief to be off planet for the first time in his life, and while he missed his family, it was exciting to be on his own for once.

The ship he was currently traveling on was captained by, a distant cousin named Morelan. Having planned this trip out, in his mind, it would be a piece of cake, one of Lista’s favorite sayings, to looked at this as a business opportunity and a vacation getaway

“Norvir, this is the first time I have seen you yet this trip. I was beginning to believe you’d missed the flight.” Morelan joked.

“I’m just taking the opportunity to rest and relax until we arrive. When will that be?”

“Two days, if nothing changes.”

“That soon? This ship is really amazing!”

“You have no idea. Is there anything you’ll be needing when we start making trades?” Morelan asked.

“Send me the list so I can look it over. I don’t need anything for myself, but I have nieces and nephews now. There are also sisters and I want to have some gifts.”

“Good idea to use the power of trading for Oison.”

“You can use that too. Just put the cost of the trade in once it’s done.”

“Really? Are you sure that’s alright?” This was Morelan’s first trip as captain. He would learn a lot on this trip.

“Yes, your crew and anyone else can do it. We are all together in this. None of us have special privileges. I’m surprised you of all people would think so.” Morelan was family and he knew Norvir’s dad didn’t want to be treated as royalty and raised above others. The experience that they had lived through with the former emperor had made Davar resist anyone having
special
privileges.

The excitement in his eyes from earlier dimmed and he hung his head. “You are right. I know better. I’ll have one of the crew check to see what the others might want and I’ll come back to see what’s on your list.”

“It’s alright, Morelan. Just don’t forget again. We have leaders, not royalty.” It was true that this new world had many adjustments for him and his people. His family had always been considered royalty, even here when they were nothing more than a penal colony. Now they were free, and while his family was offering the leadership they had been asked to give, that was all they were, leaders. Other families of influence formed a council that supported them, but they were more along the lines of advisors. None of them wanted a more active role.

The adjustment seemed hard for some of their people that viewed them almost like deities. The gods and goddesses had smiled on them giving them many blessings which they had made the most of. This made some of their people look at him and his family with awe. Those of other worlds also assumed they were royalty, like they had been in the old days. That wasn’t true, but they were wealthy and in some eyes, that was the same. Every citizen on their world had a large income, it was distributed by job or standing. A child would get the smallest payout, a stay at home mother received the same amount as a lower tiered worker. This was because child care was free if they chose to work and each child drew money as well that the mother was in charge of. Housing was also free and if children were school aged and the mother the educator, she also received a stipend for each child. Income was added based on responsibilities, training, and the importance of the position. As was true everywhere, management paid the most.

Novir had more money squirreled away, than most because he spent little, except for the house that his sister by law, Tammie was finishing up for him. All his brothers so far had found mates that had much to offer to their world. He hoped his mate would be the same, although love and a good match, was more important. The daig or demon in him ached for his soul mate, but Novir feared it might be too much to ask. More of his brothers had found a match outside the games, by participating in the games, it would be like rolling the dice.

They might have been raised with stories of mating games, but they had not seen any until Oison opened up this new opportunity to bring women to the plant. Razar had been in the first one and the fates had favored him. It seemed impossible to expect more of those blessings. Novir turned to his computer screen and looked at the information on the seminar he was attending. Several top scientists in the fields he was looking into, would be present. Earth had so many scientists that were environmentalists, yet they didn’t listen to any of them.

Norvir hoped to give some of them a chance to save a planet, one on the brink of making life altering decisions. It wouldn’t be Earth, but wouldn’t someone who wanted to make a difference step up, even if it wasn’t for their home? That was the question this trip would answer. Out of six well known environmentalists at the seminar, surely one of them could be persuaded. It would be a start, others would soon follow.

Norvir was on one of the newest ships. It was a medium size ship to accommodate a mix of passengers and cargo. On the way home, they would be making a couple of stops to pick up both, passengers and merchandise. Out here, past the grip of Earth’s government, life was better for the average person. These space stations were self-governing and were stops for ships to fuel, take in needed supplies, and also were trading stations. Many had large warehouses that companies rented to store items of interest to passing ships and traders.

Tellur III was set up for seminars, parties, and training for company bigwigs. Anything a being could want for enjoyment, was here. Prostitution was legal on this station and they had the largest Pleasure house in the known worlds. Norvir knew this because when he had bought his seat at the seminar, the station guide had sent him information on the facilities so he could book a room, and see the available services they provided. They had a wide variety of services there and they said they could please even the darkest and kinkiest customers. Norvir had no interest in paid sex, he only knew about it, because a full color ad, with surprising pictures, had come in the information packet.

Some of the positions defied belief, making him almost tempted to go just to see if it was really possible. He’d talked himself out of it, because compared to his mission and his other plans, it just wasn’t important enough. Those things were of no interest to Norvir, not that he wasn’t curious, he was just committed to his work. Ensuring his planet stayed as unchanged as possible for future generations was his passion and he was dedicated to it.

Chapter 2

Earth First

Dr. Nathalie Goodrich wasn’t a religious woman, but she had said a hundred thank yous to God. As she watched the footage a friend had sent her, of her house being raided, by what looked like a Special Forces squad backed up by an army squadron. What did they think, that she had superpowers? Once they had seen she wasn’t there, they had completely trashed her house, then bombed it. Someone had anger issues. She didn’t care, there was nothing there she wanted and the bank had owned more of it than she had. Earth Bank, the largest bank in the world, and Earth Insurance, the insurance provider a customer had to take to secure the loan, would be unhappy.
