He threw his head back and opened his mouth, letting out a gasp of air followed by a deep moan. Then Lana felt his cock swelling up as he thrust quickly into her and held it there. He shot a deep load into the condom and found himself wishing he wasn’t wearing one… Lana was the woman he’d want to reproduce with, and she felt the same way.

Their lips locked with one another’s once more and Chris held himself inside of her, still hard as a rock. Lana batted her eyelids playfully at him and they began to giggle as they rubbed noses with each other, and then he pulled out and crawled off the bed. They went to the bathroom together and freshened up quickly, and then came back into the room and lay on the bed together, hand in hand.

“That was amazing.” Lana muttered shakily, her breath still heavy and her heart still pounding.

Chris turned his head and kissed her cheek silently, and then spoke, “It was incredible.”

“Where do we go now? From here?”

“From here? Well, we’re going to have an amazing vacation… And I think I’m going to give up the Sheriff job. I want to move closer to the beach in a happier town. That town just isn’t what it used to be, baby. I want us to have a happy and exciting life together.”

“I don’t want you to quit for me,” She said, “I want you to be happy. I would be happy growing old with you in the most boring place in the world.”

“Same here… But you deserve better. Hell, you just moved there randomly. Wouldn’t you agree it’s pretty boring?”

“Um… So far, it’s the last thing from boring. In fact, during my first couple days there I was taken hostage, witnessed death and destruction.”

Chris smiled, “Okay, well it’s exciting in the worst possible way. In a
horrible
and dangerous way.”

“Let’s go out on the beach, babe. Let’s get in the water.” Lana nuzzled closer to him and held him in her arms. He was warm and muscular, and she felt safe when she was close to him. She kissed his nose and nuzzled closer.

Epilogue

They drove down the old highway one last time, and it was the last time Chris ever saw the town. Lana rode silently in the passenger seat, and even she could tell that it was bittersweet for him, but he was right – it was a good decision to leave. Their bags were packed and loaded up in the bed of Chris’s truck, and they had headed towards the coast.

By the time they got there it was later in the day, but the sun was still shining brightly in the sky. Chris carried in all the heavy luggage and set them out in the living room. They’d unpack the next day, and the bed would be set up tonight. He’d already pulled it off the top of the truck where it had been tied and set it in the bedroom propped up against the wall. All that was left was setting up the bed frame.

Lana dropped her last bag on the ground and sat on top of her suitcase. The light was waning outside and they could see the ocean from their back window. They’d picked a small town close to San Francisco and it was just…
Beautiful,
to say the least. She sighed and felt tired, but she perked up once Chris walked back into the room.

“The bed is made and ready for us to pass out in tonight.” He laughed.

“Come here, babe.” She looked up at him lovingly.

“What?” He walked towards her and smiled.

“Love you.”

“Love
you
.” He crouched down to his knees and took her soft hands in his. He kissed her and tasted how sweet she was. She was perfect in every way, and Lana felt the same about him. He pulled his lips away from her and stared hypnotically at her… She’d amazed him in so many ways.

“Meeting you was crazy… It was like fate, wasn’t it? Me moving to a random town and getting involved with you… Then all the crazy stuff happening. It happened for a reason.”

“It was fate. We’re mates.”

“We are mates…” Lana repeated Chis as she stared into his eyes and then got lost in them. She kissed him again as she smiled and he held her tight.

They were going to be so happy in their new home

Five years ago…

“Come on in boys, the water’s great.” The old man swam smoothly between the river banks in the old creek. It was a large creek that led into an enormous river, but the four of them stayed in the small spot with their grill and camp site set up. They’d come there for years, and it was a form of safe haven in a way. It was a place to gather and have fun, and forget about the worries of their kind for a weekend.

“Come on,
suckers
!” Jake bellowed as he held tightly onto the rope and then careened himself forward and landed with a huge splash into the water.

Brad smiled and flipped the hot dogs on the grill. It was going to be a good day. The weather was fine and the sky was that bright blue you only see out west, particularly in Southern California and Arizona. Not a cloud in sight, not a bit of humidity, and not a person around them.

Ryan walked up and carefully laid out some burger patties on the top section of the grill before patting Brad on the back and cracking open a beer, “It’s a nice one, ain’t it bud?” He rasped.

“Sure is. Can’t believe us guys are always so lucky when we come up here. Never see a single soul out here camping, just us.”

“Man, we need to bring some women next time. It’s become too much of a sausage fest.”

Brad burst out laughing and damn near knocked the grill off the edge of the hill and into the creek. He wiped the tears from his cheeks and shook his head.

“Tell me about it, brother.” He said.

Jake swam with the old man and raced him back and forth from one side of the bank to the other. They swam abnormally easily and quickly, which was unusual for any man to do, especially one of the old man’s age. However, the four men at that campsite were not “normal men” whatsoever. They were shifters; each and every one of them having the ability to shift into big cats.

Brad was the solitary tiger – quiet, reserved, but with a commanding presence and the one everyone turned to in times of trouble. He was unquestionably the leader.

Ryan was the Jaguar – stealthy, cunning, and full of mischief, but an all-around great guy to have around.

Jake was the leopard – quick, nimble, and able to climb a tree faster than all of them. Boy, was he ever quick.

Jake’s father Stu was the old man, who was also a leopard. He’d been around for many years and lived in many places, but had settled down in the snowy mountains of Big Bear California years ago. The four of them laughed and joked and after a while Ryan called after Jake and Stu to come out because the food was ready. When the gunshot rang out no one seemed to comprehend it for a full thirty seconds. They froze. Their joyful expressions quickly turned to confusion, then disbelief, then anger.

The old man was dead
.

His lifeless body had flopped back into the water from which he’d come, falling backwards with a tumble down the grassy slope after the bullet pierced the back of his head. He rolled down with a series of soft thuds and then splashed into the creek.

A loud but calm and collected voice rang out from the tree line, the source of which remained hidden deep within the brush, “We know who you are. There will be more deaths. Leave, now. Pack up your things and go back where you came from.
Hell
.” It bellowed sternly.

Brad’s body tensed up and he felt the fur sprouting wildly from his skin. His muscles bulged and he fell onto all fours as his classically handsome square jaw morphed into the face of a tiger. His rectangular human teeth transformed into snarling fangs and his deep blue eyes shifted to a dark yellow with slits for pupils.

He let out a thunderous roar that sent birds flapping and screeching out of trees. The voice said no more, and they never found the man. Of course, the camp site had been located very close to a road, and they discovered tire tracks from an off road vehicle that matched a popular ATV model. Whoever the perpetrator was left in a very big hurry after delivering the gunshot followed by his stern message.

The group dispersed out of fear. Most of them left Southern California except for Brad. He stayed. It was his home, and anyone who said otherwise would have hell to pay.

Chapter 1

Brad was hiding something from the world that he’d kept secret for years. He was a shifter, but not a common shifter like the bears or wolves that so densely populated the hills of the Pacific Northwest. He was a tiger living on the outskirts of Los Angeles where the weather was warm and suited to his taste. He kept it a secret because of one thing. He would be hunted if people found out. The bears and wolves in the northwest were safe; they lived in packs and kept each other safe from harm. Brad however, was alone. He was a solitary tiger, and he knew that he had no one to protect him but himself.

He’d let his tiger out three or four times in the past five years, and each time it happened he’d rush home, pack his bags, and move overnight. Brad had money, lots of money. His father was a shifter as well, who never shifted but maybe a few times in his entire life. He built his empire on oil and when he passed away when Brad was ten he left him a fortune. Brad stayed in posh hotels until he got himself an apartment, and then he’d move all his belongings in and try his hardest to feel right at home; but Brad never felt very much at home. He needed a mate badly.

He was twenty eight years old and he had never settled down with anyone. Two of the times he’d let his tiger out he found that the girls who he’d been seeing became so transfixed by it that they went slightly crazy for him. He was over the idea that he was somehow
special
because he was a shifter, and he hated how women seemed to just want him for his shifting abilities as those two girls seemed to. He sat on the couch in the dark and thought back to both of the women, to the times when he realized that they were only interested in his shifting.

“Oh my god, it’s so amazing,” One of them rasped as they stared at his orange black striped fur, “I… I can’t believe it.” Her eyes were transfixed by him.

“Do you like me for who I am?” Brad asked solemnly.

They’d only known one another for two days, and Brad thought it best if he had told them the truth up front. He couldn’t keep such a big secret from them only to tell them further along in their relationship. The woman’s eyes lit up like a flame.

“I’ve always wanted to be with a shifter…” Her voice trailed off and Brad knew right then and there that it wasn’t going to work. He couldn’t handle a girl who had a shifter fixation, and she hadn’t seemed particularly into him until he shifted. He called it quits right then and there.

Brad still sat on the couch and he let out a big chuckle at the memory of that night. He wondered what that girl was doing now, and if she’d ever told anyone. He didn’t want to risk it at the time, so he moved the following morning, never to speak to the woman again.

The second one was even more extreme. Brad had let her know on the first date that he was a shifter. They were sitting in his beach housel looking up at the waves after having dinner in town. Night had fallen and the tide was coming in fast, and Brad brought it up in casual conversation, albeit with a serious tone.

“Have you ever been with a shifter?”

A sparkle formed in her eyes and she gasped, “Tell me you are one. Holy shit, is that what you’re telling me?”

“I’m… Er, yes.” He stammered.

“Shift for me. I want to see it.” The woman’s lips tightened and Brad sighed, trying to pinpoint whether she was excited or just shocked. He hoped shocked, because he didn’t want to have to deal with another shifter seeker again. He stood and quickly shifted into his tiger. Sprouts of fur broke through his skin and his gorgeous human face twisted and contorted into that of a ferocious Bengal tiger. The woman’s jaw dropped and she clapped her hands, “I used to date a bear! In fact, that’s all I actively seek out. I didn’t think we’d work tonight, not that you were rude or anything… Just not really my type. Until now, of course.” She giggled.

Brad had taken her home shortly thereafter, ignoring her numerous texts over the next few days. She’d threatened to expose him to the world one the second day of him ignoring her, and so he simply packed his bags and moved up north a bit. The air was a little cooler there and he didn’t like it, so he didn’t stay long.

So after it all and a couple of years later, Brad found it safe again to move back down south. Southern California was his home after all, and he never planned on leaving it. He could’ve moved to Florida but he didn’t like it down there; he was a west coast kind of guy. He just wished he could’ve met some fellow cat shifter to be friends with, or at least associate with so that he wouldn’t feel so quite alone.

Just as Brad had about given up on women, he decided to open up his laptop as the waves rushed in from below. It booted up quickly and Brad opened up his browser. He bit his lip gently as he thought to himself
this is so stupid
, and then he promptly searched for “Dating website”. He took a deep breath, clicked through some that looked fake, and then settled on one that looked like it had real people on it.

It seemed legitimate enough, and Brad scanned through the girls in his area and read some of their profiles, but only the ones that caught his eye. He was very particular about his type of woman… He didn’t have a favorite hair or eye color, he liked them all, but he was extremely into curvy women. He liked wide hips and voluptuous breasts, big butts and thick thighs. Brad saw quite a few of these lustful ladies on the website, but none of them struck his high as anything more than merely attractive until he stumbled upon a profile of a girl with sandy hair and a full figure.

His mouth began to water.

He clicked on her picture and it took him to her profile. She’d written a short paragraph about herself, just a few sentences really. Brad read it quickly, and then reread it before looking at her pictures once more.

Just tired of the games and the weirdos on here, and tired of the perverts sending me dirty messages. I’ve been hurt one too many times and I’d like to try this one last time. I guess you could say this is my last attempt to find a decent man on here, and I didn’t think it would be as hard as it has been.

Although it was merely text, Brad found it very moving and somber. He felt for her, and he didn’t even know her. In a way he could completely identify with her sad little body of text, and he clicked the message button in the right hand corner. He smiled, typing up a quick little introduction for himself and then pressing send. Brad didn’t take long to do it; he chose his words carefully but didn’t plan them out to sound interesting, funny, or sweet. He simply typed as he was and figured the girl could like her initial impression or not. He was so jaded by trying to find a good woman that he didn’t care, but she was so sexy that he hoped she’d message him back.

Brad stood up and yawned, stretching his arms out wide. He walked to the kitchen and grabbed a cup of coffee. It was late, but he drank coffee all throughout the day. Something inside of him craved the caffeine, and at night it wound him down rather than woke him up. He brewed a cup and set leaned up against the kitchen counter as he stared out the window. Stars shined brightly in the sky as the moonlight spilled down onto the black water. It was gorgeous here, and maybe Brad’s favorite home so far. He hoped he wouldn’t have to move again. But if he did, oh well. He was used to that kind of lifestyle.

In his spare time, Brad wrote books. He considered himself an author, and although he was humble about his success the fact of the matter was that he was a highly successful bestselling novelist. He wrote books under a pen name separate from his own, and he had a large readership. If his father hadn’t left him the large sum of money after his death, he would’ve been just fine. He wasn’t a big spender and he had his own large income that came in every two weeks from his publisher, who also didn’t know that he was a shifter.

He wrote thrillers and adventure novels, and occasionally dabbled in romance because he was a romantic at heart. His last book got rave reviews, but his regular fans were disappointed and shocked that he had written something so sweet and tender. It hurt his feelings to read some of their reviews. They said that he should’ve stuck with thrillers and action books, and that romance wasn’t their cup of tea. But the good reviews far outweighed the bad, and many new readers became fans because of his genre switch. Brad enjoyed writing the novel, and planned to write more, but he still considered thriller books his main genre.

The coffee maker beeped loudly and shook Brad out of his deep thoughts. He smiled at him and shook his head, heading to pour himself a hot brew. After dropping a packet of sugar in the cup and swirling it around, he took a big sip and damn near dropped the cup on the ground.

Damn
.” He cursed himself for taking such a large drink and burning his mouth. He shook his head again and smirked, then walked over to the living room table and plopped back down on the couch. The browser was still open with the dating website up in plain view, and he had a big orange notification in the left hand corner. It said “New Message”.

Brad smiled bashfully and opened it. He wondered what she was going to say.

An hour later Brad hadn’t even taken another sip of his coffee which at that point had gone cold. He’d been wrapped up in the online conversation he was having with the girl he’d messaged, whose name was Laura. She seemed sweet enough, and they definitely had a lot to talk about. Some mild flirtation went on between them and they planned to meet the following morning for coffee at a nearby café.

Brad went to bed around two in the morning and set his alarm for eight on the dot. He was going to meet the girl at nine o’clock, and he was fairly excited, but still decided to keep his guard up and excitement low. He didn’t want to get hurt again, but he had a feeling that it would happen like it always seemed to. Taking a deep breath, he turned off the bedside lamp and drifted off into a deep slumber.
