EPILOGUE

She came walking out of the Welcome Center, her hair up in a ponytail. He wondered what it would look like if she let it flow down her smooth shoulders. That dark hair. He hadn’t seen one like her yet.

He had to have her.

She walked down the sidewalk, looking off into the manufactured trees that had been planted to make the State Welcome Center seem more inviting. He didn’t move from his hiding spot behind the railing aside the highway; he just continued to watch her. The way she walked, it excited him. The others, they’d want to use her for their stupid games. There’d be plenty of time for that, but he hoped he’d get to play his own games with her first. He bit his bottom lip, thinking of the possibilities.

The dark-haired girl reached the end of the sidewalk, and then she turned around. In a way, he wanted her to look his way. He knew it would be nearly impossible for her to see him, well as he was hidden. But it would be almost like a tease. He loved to be teased.

He felt the slow dance begin in his pants just as the door to the Welcome Center opened again, drawing his attention away from the pretty young girl.

A man walked out. He reached to the sky, stretching, before turning toward the ground like he was going to puke. He then covered up his face, and ran toward Sexy Dark Hair.

“You’ve gotta be fuckin’ kiddin’ me,” he mumbled.

This asshole, walking out of the building and almost throwing up for no reason, he would die. And it would be fun. Slow and fun. And painful.

The two-way radio hissed.

“You see anything? Over,” a man said from the other end of the radio.

Licking his lips, eyes locked on the girl, he waited to respond. Cock Blocker hadn’t ruined his fun so much to where he couldn’t take a moment to admire her a little more. But when the radio hissed again, asking if he was there, he finally shook himself from his dream and put the radio up to his mouth.

“Yeah,” he said. “Yeah, we’ve got some live ones here. Let’s get ready to wrangle ‘em up.”

AUTHOR’S NOTE

Thanks for reading Empty Bodies 4: Open Roads.

I wanted to just take a moment and thank you for reading this series. It has been so much fun for me to write, and I feel very attached to all these characters. The whole thing has been a great experience for me, and I’ve learned so much about writing and storytelling.

The journey isn’t over quite yet, as I’ve still got two more books to share with you. I’ve been working on Empty Bodies 5: Damnation, and can tell you with a lot of confidence that is probably going to end up being my favorite book in the entire series. The storyline that the epilogue you just read leads into has been brutally entertaining for me to write, and I know you’ll love reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it.

Again, thank you so much. Writing books is a lot of hard work, and happens over many hours spent alone, so it is very fulfilling to know that people are enjoying the story.

Now, strap in, and get ready for the penultimate title!

WHAT DID YOU THINK OF
OPEN ROADS?

For independent authors like myself, reviews are very important. You won’t see my books at the grocery store or on some famous television personality’s book list. Reviews help new readers discover our work so that they can enjoy our stories and we can write more books.

If you enjoyed this book, I would be forever grateful if you would take the time to click the link below and just leave a few words about what you thought about Empty Bodies 4 on Amazon. This link will take you right there:

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Something about the dark side of life has always appealed to me. Whether I experience it through reading and watching horror or listening to my favorite heavy metal bands, I have been forever fascinated with the shadow of human emotion.

While in my 20's, I discovered my passion to create through playing drums in two heavy metal bands: Kerygma and Twelve Winters. While playing in Twelve Winters (a power metal band with a thrash edge fronted by my now wife Kathryn), I was able to indulge myself in my love of writing by penning the lyrics for all our music. My love of telling a story started here, as many of the songs became connected to the same concept and characters in one way or another.

Now in my 30's, my creative passion is being passed to willing readers through the art of stories. While I have a particular fascination for real life scenarios, I also love dark fantasy. So, you'll find a little bit of everything in my stories, from zombies to serial killers, angels and demons to mindless psychopaths, and even ghosts and parallel dimensions.

My influences as a writer come primarily from the works of Clive Barker, Stephen King, and Blake Crouch in the written form; the beautifully dark, rich lyrics of Mikael Akerfeldt from the band Opeth; and an array of movies, going back to the root of my fascination at a young age with 70's and 80's slasher films such as
Halloween, Friday the 13th,
and
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

I live in Nashville, Tennessee with my wife Kathryn, our daughter Haley, and our German Shepherd Guinness. When I'm not writing, I enjoy playing hockey, watching hockey and football, cycling, watching some of my favorite television shows and movies, and, of course, reading.
