“Not now,
silly. There must be somewhere around here to grab a bite to eat.”

“Oh, of
course. Let me just tell Mrs. Ginnity that I’ll be stepping out,” she said and
stood.

“My so
formal. So professional,” he said, not hiding his teasing tone. His hand moved
quickly to wrap around her waist and haul her against him as he continued to
sit on her desk. “There’s no rush. I wanted to see where you worked first. See
if you’d give me a tour of the library. You know, for the grant.”

The mischief
in his eyes warned her that he might have other objectives. “I think you have
naughty intentions, Miller. What are you really up to?”

A squeeze
from his hand resting on her side drove goose bumps over her skin. “Busted. Okay,
I was doing some work on my laptop when the image of fucking you in the
bookracks drove me so wild that I jumped on my hog and came to find you.”

She gasped.
“Are you insane? We’d never get away with that.” Although, she wished they
could because she grew hornier by the minute. “Mrs. Ginnity is all eyes and
ears. Nothing would get by her.”

He laughed.
“Let’s see about that.” His hand trailed down her side and disappeared under
the hem of her skirt. The quick ascension up her leg to her panties sent warning
bells blaring in her head.

“Miller!” she
whispered through gritted teeth. “At least lock the door.” Had she lost her
mind to want sex in her office of all places for Christ’s sake?

“Did when I
shut it, Cambrie. I just want to touch you. Feel the slickness of your bare
pussy lips on the tips of my fingers, wishing it was my tongue running along
them.”

That did it.
She melted into his embrace and allowed his fingers to dip beneath her panties.
His finger slid through the wetness gathered there, her head arching back while
biting on her lip to keep as quiet as possible.

With her
hands anchored on his shoulders, she stood with his knee lodged between her
legs and his finger caressing her clit. The slow circles he pressed onto the
hard nub sent electric shocks throughout her core. A humming built from deep
within her womb, the familiar urgency building.

“Oh, damn,
Cambrie. You’re so fucking hot right now,” he said in a soft voice. Grateful
for his quietness, Cambrie rocked against his hand. “That’s my girl, rub that
beautiful pussy over my fingers.”

My girl?
What the hell
did that mean? Too aroused to think straight, she buried the question for now.

“Makes me so
fucking hot, baby, knowing people are just on the other side of the door, and I
have you in here all to myself.” His words sped up her heartbeat. Someone could
interrupt them. The thrill of being discovered shocked her with its power to
stir her libido and increase the fire already in her belly.

When he
inserted one long finger into her pussy, she swallowed a scream. The orgasm
took control from there and exploded throughout her pussy, each muscle
convulsing with greedy nerves and transferring heated sensations deep into her
womb.

Miller never
stopped, just stroked and rubbed, caressed and fingerfucked her pussy with two
fingers now, the tightness of her pussy growing over the delightful intrusion.
When the vibrations slowly trickled away, she was left mesmerized by what had
just happened. Since when did she participate in such wanton behavior and so
easily too?

“I love
knowing there’s a hidden firecracker under that librarian persona, baby girl,”
Miller said, removing his fingers from her panties and bringing them up to his
lips.

With a
determined slowness, he licked them clean, his tongue wiping her juices from
his skin. Wasn’t that the most erotic sight she had ever seen? She almost
forgot to breathe while she took it in.

“Taste how
sweet you are, Cambrie,” he whispered before pulling her into his arms and
devouring her mouth in a kiss so deep and possessive she swore he branded his
name on her lips.

Every swipe
of his tongue against hers made her want to beg for more—more kisses, more
loving, more Miller. Tasting her juices on his tongue, the creamy sweetness,
only served to make her want to take his cock into her mouth to savor him. Her
hands ran through his short hair, wishing it was long enough to grab hold of
it.

Ending the
kiss tore a cry from her throat before she remembered where they were, in her
office, in the library and surrounded by nosy people. “Miller, you are so
spanked,” she spit out, echoing the words he had used on her so many times.

Her statement
served to stun him as he faced her with a cocked eyebrow. “Now I’ve never had
that said to me before.”

“Well, you
deserve to get your ass kicked coming in here and making me a blubbering, horny
mess.” Her complaint came with no heat. Truth be told, she didn’t want him to
stop touching her. If she thought they could have privacy long enough, she’d
drag him to the floor to show him how horny he had made her. “I just wish we
were at the apartment to finish.”

“Mmmm. We’ll
finish later. Now give me that tour and you can tell me how you plan to finish
later.”

“Or maybe I
won’t finish and I’ll leave you aching like you do to me.”

“Try that,
honey, and I will paddle your ass until it glows,” he responded, his eyes
simmering with desire each time he spoke of spanking her.

“Let’s begin
that tour. If we stay in here too long, the gossip mongers will have a field
day.” She stepped into the hallway, her heels tapping on the tile floor.

As expected,
Mrs. Ginnity stood at the front desk with a curious glare etched on her painted
face. “Cambrie, who’s this handsome, young man?”

Oh, God.
Cambrie now regretted letting the old woman hang around to help her out. “Um,
Mrs. Ginnity, meet Lt. Miller Daly. My pen pal for the library grant.”

“Pleasure to
meet you, ma’am.”

The elegant
woman shook his hand and studied him too intently for Cambrie’s liking. “Oh,
I’ve heard so much about you from Annabelle. I must say, she didn’t
exaggerate.”

She what?
Cambrie’s jaw dropped. “From Auntie?”

“Why of
course. We just spoke this morning. Said you rescued her, Cambrie, from that
mean nurse who insists on keeping her locked in her room. Honestly, that was so
awful.”

“Aunt
Annabelle misstated the facts. She took a fall because she refused to listen to
the nurses’ orders and give them time to accommodate her request to go to the
lounge.” And why the hell was Cambrie explaining herself?

“Well, that’s
neither here nor there. So tell me, Lt. Daly, how long are you in town?”

“Please, it’s
Miller. For about a week, less if duty calls.”

Cambrie’s
heart squeezed like a vice had clamped around it. She refused to think of him
leaving. “Excuse us, Mrs. Ginnity, but I’ve promised Miller a tour of the library
so he can personally see how wonderful it is and why we deserve the grant.”

“Nice to meet
you, ma’am,” he said as Cambrie led him away.

“You too,
young man,” Mrs. Ginnity said with a little too much sugar.

“She picked
up the phone and is dialing, right?” Cambrie asked, walking up the stairs with
Miller.

He glanced
over his shoulder in a casual manner. “Sure is.”

“Oh, Aunt
Annabelle’s going to have lots of questions now,” Cambrie complained.

“I’ll do my
best to answer them as truthfully as I can,” he suggested.

Cambrie faced
him and noticed the smirk on his face. “Careful, Miller. I don’t care what kind
of training you have. You’re no match for a southern woman like my aunt when
she sets her mind to something.”

“Hhmmm. Now I
know where her niece gets it from.” He laughed when she shot him a warning
glare over her shoulder. “This is a huge library, Cam.”

His use of
the nickname that only close friends and family called her caught her off guard
for a moment, made their acquaintance even more intimate. “This library has
served generations in this county. It’s the only one for about fifty miles so
you can understand the importance in keeping it running.”

“Of course,”
he agreed, strumming his finger along the books neatly stacked in rows. “I love
reading. Biographies, history, mystery. In my line of work, when I’m not
fighting the bad guys, then I have lots of down time, so I spend it working out
and reading mostly. If I didn’t stimulate my brain and body then I’d go stir
crazy.”

“And now you
can add writing erotic emails to that list.”

He laughed
but kept his voice low. “True.”

Walking
through the three floors of the library gave them time to talk since making out
wasn’t an option no matter how much Cambrie craved his kisses. “I want to hear
all about your job. It sounds so interesting.”

“Oh, without
a doubt it is. I’ve seen parts of the world I wouldn’t have without the
military. But it’s not like in the movies where there’s always action. Gets
pretty boring sometimes.”

“Do you mean
not a lot of women available to spend your time with?” Somehow she couldn’t
picture him as the type to be alone.

“Women are a
rare thing on missions, darling.”

Well, that
was a relief. “Answer me something, Miller.”

“Sure.”

“Why would
you need to join an online dating site?” So what if the question had been
burning in the back of her mind since his admission after arriving.

He shrugged,
his wide shoulders stretching the material of his T-shirt. “Just hard to meet
women in my line of work. I’m never usually in one place for very long. Thought
it’d help when I got lonely. I can only look at the guys’ ugly faces for so
long before I need to see a pretty lady.”

“Is that so?”
Yes, jealousy had reared its ugly head.

“Uh oh. Did I
say something wrong? Fuck!” he said, still in a quite tone. “I knew there’d be
no good answer to that damn question.”

“Stop it,”
she whispered and swatted his arm. “You don’t owe me any explanations, Miller,
especially about something you did before we met. I just wondered, I guess, how
many women you talk to online.”

“Just one,”
he said without hesitation.

Her heart
sank. She should’ve known that he’d have other women to chat with. A gorgeous,
confident man in uniform who exuded sexual charisma wouldn’t need to be lonely.
“I’m sure you have your choice of any woman.”

“That’s
true.”

Okay, now she
wanted to choke him. Did he have to carry the honesty thing so far?

“But the
only
woman I choose to speak with is currently standing in front of me ready to take
my head off for no reason. I don’t lie, Cambrie. There are no other women in my
life. Yes, some friends are female, but they’re strictly friends. The online
thing wasn’t for me. That’s one of the reasons I blew you off after that first
email you sent. I hated the online dating meet-and-greet thing and thought
you’d be more of the same.”

Didn’t she
feel silly? “Oh, well, that makes sense. I’m sorry to act like an insecure
teenager. I guess I just expect you to get bored of me. I mean, our lives are
so different that mine must seem so dull to you.”

He leaned
forward and whispered into her ear. “Remind me to spank you later for putting
yourself down. You’re the most interesting, fun lady I’ve ever met. I happen to
envy your lifestyle, how you’re settled in one place with friends and family
surrounding you, and have a heart as big and bright as the sun. You’re spanked.
I promise.”

She cleared
her throat not knowing how to respond and not wanting to get hot and bothered
in the middle of the library under the watchful gazes of the customers. A
change of subject was a must. “Here’s where we’re storing the collections for
the care packages I wanted to send to you, but then you surprised me with a
visit.”

He studied
the bags of goodies. “The only care package I want is you wrapped in a bow so I
can slowly unravel it to find my treat.” He grinned with a wickedness not to be
mistaken for anything else. “Sorry, there’s nowhere to send anything to me
since I move around too much.”

She giggled,
his company so refreshing. “Somehow I don’t think I’d be allowed to enter
Afghanistan or wherever you go. So what should I do with all of these
donations?”

“I’ll give
you the address of a homeless veteran’s shelter back in Virginia. They can use
the care packages more than me and I’d be honored if you’d focus on them
instead.”

“Oh, of
course. That’s a wonderful idea. Consider it done.”

“Did you
enjoy the tour, Miller?” Mrs. Ginnity asked once they came back out to the
lobby. “Mr. Hackler, this is Lt. Miller Daly, Cambrie’s pen pal for the grant
program. This is Mr. Hackler, director of the library.”

Mr. Hackler
offered a hand to Miller. “Very nice to meet you and, on behalf of Highland
Library, we really appreciate the opportunity for a chance to keep our doors
open but also to support your service to our country. From what I’ve heard from
Mrs. Ginnity, we’re very lucky to have you on board with this project.”
