Chapter 7

Dave called out a greeting the minute they walked into the bar. He was sitting alone at a table drinking coffee. “Good to see you,” Bob said as they joined him, “Everything OK with the plane?”  Dave nodded and looked at them both while they settled in their chairs.

“You two look like lovebirds,” he noticed and smiled at Carrie. “You just let me know if he doesn’t treat you right.”

“Where’s your sweetheart, Dave?” Carrie asked, “I was hoping to meet her.”

Dave shook his head, “Next time,” he replied, “She stayed behind to catch a return flight to San Francisco this morning. So, this day is free. I'm gonna catch up on my sleep.”

“How’s the fuel level in the plane, Dave? I was thinking I might take Carrie for a short flight this morning to see the coastline, less than an hour, just up to Los Muertos.”

Dave nodded, “That should be fine. I filled up yesterday so I could leave this morning before the clouds rolled in. What time are we departing this afternoon so I can check the weather forecast?”

Bob looked at Dave and asked, “Could you stay one more day if we’d rather return tomorrow afternoon?”

Dave’s face took on a surprised look and he studied both of them before replying, “This must have been a great weekend. Bob doesn’t hang around when the weekend’s over, he’s back to work.”  He smiled at Carrie,“What magic did you weave, lady?”

“Maybe he’s just feeling the afterglow from your love fest,” joked Carrie, “I wouldn’t put too much stock on one more day. Offering to fly me to Tahiti, now that would be magic,” she quipped.  Everyone laughed and turned their attention to ordering breakfast.

It was a beautiful day with clear skies as Bob and Carrie walked out to the plane. “Couldn’t ask for better flying conditions,” Bob commented settling into the cockpit with Carrie by his side, “I wish I’d brought my binoculars. Is your camera in your bag?”

Carrie leaned forward and pulled it out, “I can use the telephoto to see some detail. Maybe we can stay as low as possible as we go up the coast.”

The plane taxied the runway as Carrie strapped herself in. Rising smoothly into the air, Bob banked the plane to head up the coast. They could see the fishing boats out on the water and Carrie warned Bob to look for the palm fronds as they passed that bit of shoreline. “Can’t tell anything specific from up here,” he commented, “We’ll have to check that out on foot. Maybe I’ll have Jose go down with some fishing gear so it looks like he’s fishing from the shore.”

Carrie touched Bob’s shoulder and spoke through her headset, “This is not my fantasy for giving you a blowjob. I thought we’d be able to put the plane on cruise control.”

Bob laughed, “I’ll have to plan a longer trip for that.”

Carrie noticed a building ahead. “What is that?” she asked.

“They call it El Cardonal’s Hide-Away. It’s a small place where people camp and park their RVs,” Bob explained.  “It’s almost the midpoint to Los Muertos.”  They continued on until the land terrain changed to green.

“We’re seeing the golf course of Bahia los Suenos,” commented Bob, “You can see the resort ahead. Look at all the sailboats anchored out on the bay. We need to take a closer look at those and see if there are any unmarked boats.”

“Sure looks like it would be easy to hide one right out in the open. What about that bigger boat?” Carrie said as she pointed to the largest one in the water. “Let me see if I can photograph it with my telephoto lens and we can check the registry.”

Bob brought the plane down so she could get her shot and then banked for a turn over the resort. He noticed a couple of large fishing boats stored at the back of the property. “Those boats could easily carry a dinghy like we saw the other night.”

“It’s much bigger than I expected,” Carrie admitted as Bob headed back down the coast, “It makes Jose’s place look small.”  Bob nodded in agreement, “Now, I understand why Alfredo said they wanted the airstrip. Just think how they could fly between San Diego all the way to the mainlnd.”

Shortly after they left Los Muertos behind, Bob heard the engine make a clunk sound and the alternator light came on. Bob looked at the control panels and then at Carrie. “See if you can get Dave on his cell phone,” he advised, “Something is not right here. I’m going to get lower so if I have to use a road, we can make an emergency landing.”

Carrie grabbed her cell phone and asked, “What’s his number?” She punched in the digits as Bob called them out and waited for the phone to ring. “I hope he’s not asleep, yet,” she said letting out a breath to calm down. When his phone when to voicemail, she hung up and said, “Let’s try the front desk. We’ll send someone to his room.” She dialed again as Bob called out the numbers and waited as the phone rang.  Pedro answered and Carrie got his attention immediately. “We have an emergency, Pedro.  You must go to Dave’s room. Knock on the door to wake him. Take a key so you can open the door if you need to. I must speak with Dave right away. Have him call Bob’s cell phone. Something is wrong with the plane.”

Bob was focused on finding the road that led to El Cardonal. He knew it would make an adequate landing strip.  Scanning the panels again he noticed the plane was losing electrical power. If it went out, he wouldn’t be able to navigate or communicate. The safest decision was to land before the situation got worse.

He turned to tell Carrie his plan and noticed she was sitting with her eyes closed and her hands wrapped around both of their phones. Reaching out he touched her shoulder, “We’re going to be OK, Carrie, I can land the plane in the next few minutes. We’ll have Dave meet us at El Cardonal and bring a toolkit. It’s probably an alternator problem.”

She let out a long breath and tried to smile, “This is more excitement than I had planned today,” she deadpanned. Bob’s phone vibrated in her hand and she held it up, “Do you want to speak with him, or should I?”

Taking the phone, Bob pulled off his headset and answered it, “Dave, the alternator light came back on, and I’m losing battery power…  How far out am I?” he repeated Dave’s question. “We’re approaching El Cardonal, maybe ten minutes from the landing strip .. What sound is the engine making now?”

Bob looked at Carrie. She shook her head, “I heard a thunk when you did, but nothing now,” she said.

Bob nodded and told Dave, “We heard one sound like a thunk or clunk, and then the alternator light came on.” Bob listened and smiled, giving thumbs up to Carrie. “OK,” he nodded handing the phone back to Carrie. “Keep him on the line. He thinks we can make it back without an engine failure.”

Carrie cradled the phone and listened to Dave talking, “Carrie, I really think you will be safe to come back. Yesterday, the mechanic used the old alternator belt when he installed the new part. It sounds like he didn’t tighten the bolts enough and the vibration of the plane has jarred them loose. The clunk you heard was probably the alternator belt coming off. If it doesn’t tangle with the engine, you will be fine for at least thirty minutes.  Even if you lose battery power, you will be safe. You just can’t talk to other aircraft and I don’t think that’s a major issue down here. I didn’t see a single plane this morning once I left the major airport.”

She looked over at Bob focusing on the control panels then she looked at them herself commenting, “I don’t see the gauges moving too much. That’s a good sign, isn’t it?”

Bob nodded his reassurance and squeezed her hand quickly before returning to the controls. She looked out and reported, “Dave, the campground is behind us now. We should be home soon. Did Pedro have to beat your door down?”

Carrie smiled at Dave’s response, “Sorry we drug you out of the shower. You can take a nap when we’re safe on the ground.  Bob says you should go find Jose. We will need his tool kit to work on the plane. Oh, I see coastline that I recognize now.”

Bob made one more scan of the controls. Battery power was still dropping but he didn’t see any other aircraft in the area so he turned toward the motel and prepared for landing. Carrie said a prayer and held onto the phone till her knuckles were white.

It only took a moment but it seemed like a lifetime till Carrie felt the bump, bump of the tires hitting the grass. She laughed spontaneously at the sound grabbing Bob’s shoulder as he applied the brakes. Dave came running up to them as they opened the doors and stood up.

“Welcome home,” he said jovially, “I brought you a cold beer, Bob.”  He thrust the drink into his friend’s hand slapping him on the back, “Good job, both of you. Anything can happen in a day’s flying. That what makes it so much damn fun.”

Carrie climbed down and walked around to give Bob a hug. “You did well,” she whispered in his ear kissing his cheek.

“My co-pilot,” he said proudly, wrapping his arm around her waist giving it a squeeze.

“OK, enough lovey-dovey,” remarked Dave, “Let’s look at that alternator to see what’s wrong.”

“I think I’ll wait for you guys in the room,” Carrie said. “Some quiet time with a book sounds good right now.”  She kissed Bob quickly and turned toward the motel.

He watched her walk away wanting her to run back and hug him again. She had stayed calm. Some women he knew would have cried hysterically.

Jose walked up bringing his toolkit.  “Everything OK, senor?” he asked as he handed the kit to Dave.

“Let’s take a look,” replied Dave lifting the engine cowling and looking inside. “Oh, yeah, just as I thought, the belt is laying here in the bottom. You’re lucky it didn’t twist into the engine. That would have been a mess. We can make this right in about ten minutes.”

Bob shook his head, “From your mouth to God’s ears,” he said, “How can I help?”

“Just hand me the tools as I call for them and then I’ll take it for a test flight to make sure we got it right,” Dave assured him.

Bob looked at Jose, “I’ll meet you back at the bar in a few minutes. I wanted to go over a few things with you before we leave, and I’m thinking we should head back today with these plane troubles.”

“Sure thing, after lunch I take some guests back to the airport,” Jose responded. He headed back to the motel so the men could finish their work.

“Planes are like women, Bob, you gotta treat ‘em with kid gloves so they’ll sing for you,” said Dave as he worked tightening the alternator belt into position.

“Anything you say, Dave, you’ve known a lot more women than me, I just want this plane to be safe so we can all get home later today.”

Dave ignored him and continued on, “I know a keeper when I see one, Bob, and Carrie’s a keeper,” Dave emphasized his thought by pointing his wrench at Bob; “She’s not like my girl who is high maintenance. I really noticed that about her this weekend.”

“Are you ready to give up your family for that?” asked Bob as Dave secured the last bolt and began packing the tools away.

“Well, that’s a good question,” Dave admitted, “I’ll think about that while I take this little baby for a test flight.”

Bob nodded and headed back to the motel to find Jose. He wanted to give him a list of homework; check out Miguel living at Mary’s cabin, check out the palm fronds down the beach, check out Mary’s house to see if there was anything unexpected. He would follow-up with Alfredo in Ensenada as soon as he knew what was happening here. He was certain it would take a local business man to get through to the timeshare execs.

He walked into the bar and found Jose mixing Bloody Marys. “I’ll take one of those,” Bob said spontaneously.  Jose poured him a drink and delivered the rest to the group gathered under the palapa. Bob took a long drink and sighed.

“Can we go to the back office for just a minute?” Bob asked when Jose returned.

Nodding his head, Jose said, “It will take them a little while before they need refills. If I get them drunk, they will sleep in the car.” The men headed down the hallway together. As they walked, Jose asked, “So, what really happened with the plane?”

Bob patted him on the shoulder and reassured him, “Exactly what Dave said, it was just a thrown alternator belt. I know he may not make a great impression, but he’s an ace pilot.”

Chapter 8

Carrie was reading by the sliding glass door when Bob entered the room. She looked at him and then ran to hug him to her. “I’ve been a little shaky just thinking about what could have happened,” she admitted as she held onto him.

“I know, I know, Carrie,” he calmed her by rubbing her back; “I just had a strong drink to calm myself down.”

She kissed his cheek and moved to capture his mouth in an urgent kiss. He absorbed her body in his and met her stroke for stroke as her tongue dueled with his. She broke the kiss and pulled back to look into Bob’s eyes. “I want to make love to you so bad right now,” she said in a rush.

He grinned and pulled her back to him, “So, I get my blowjob after all,” he teased as he kissed her senseless.

“Oh, yes, that and more,” she promised, “I want the whole fireworks. I’m so happy to be alive and here with you.”

He pushed her back and they fell together onto the bed. He pinned her arms over her head with one hand and skimmed her body with the other. His eyes never left hers as he possessed her with his touch. She shivered waiting for his head to drop to hers. She strained up to meet him as she clasped his hand and spread her legs to wrap around his back.  “Bob, I want you to take me. Make me feel alive.”

“Oh, yes, I’m going to fuck you till we both burn,” he told her between quick kisses down her throat. He took her breast through her clothes sucking hard to dampen the fabric. She moaned at the friction arching her body for more.

“Do that again,” she pleaded, “I love the silkiness against my skin.”  Bob moved to the other breast and Carrie squealed with pleasure as he suckled and released repeating it again. Her heart raced at the sensations that cascaded through her body.

When Bob lifted his hand from her arms, Carrie pulled them down to his pants and began unzipping them.

“I want your hot cock inside me,” she demanded jerking his pants down to his knees. He stripped off his shirt and began lifting her dress above her waist.

“Look at you-all bare and beautiful,” he stroked her belly and dipped a finger inside her. “Hot and wet, you are burning, Carrie, and I want you,” he murmured moving over her and thrusting his cock deep inside her.

Carrie bucked from the power of his thrust. She wanted him pounding her and lifted her body to meet each stroke. They panted thrusting with their legs entwined. Bob kept his eyes on Carrie’s face as he took over her body. She exploded from the heat and friction. “Oh, my God, “she cried continuing to pump as her orgasms rushed through her body.

Bob finally slowed to catch his breath and kissed her hard, “Feel alive now, my love?” he asked staring into her eyes.

“My heart is racing,” she moaned between breaths. “Every nerve ending tingles. She rocked them side to side and suddenly flipped over so she was on top. “I want to taste your hot cock,” she panted sliding down his body. Grabbing his pulsing shaft, she sucked it in her mouth. She felt his legs jerk as he responded to her stroking up and down. Working the head of his penis, she rolled her tongue around its top before pushing down again with her lips.

Bob moaned pushing her head further down till she had him completely in her mouth. She came up quickly and repeated her sucking motion. “Give it to me, I want you to explode in my mouth,” she urged squeezing his balls while licking his shaft. Once more she buried his cock in her mouth and moaned as she sucked up and down.

Bob soon lost control and exploded in Carrie’s mouth. Hot semen covered her tongue and she squeezed the last droplets out with her hand so she could lick them off of his cock. She wiped her mouth and kissed his penis before curling up in Bob’s arms. She bit his shoulder gently, “We had a lot more fun here on this bed than we would have in that plane.”

He squeezed her to him agreeing, “You were wonderful, by the way. I’d fly with you anytime. I’m just glad we’re here and safe.  I’m sorry we have to go home today.”

“I feel the same way,” Carrie replied rubbing her hand on his chest. “I could lie on this bed for a long time.”

Bob looked down at her and smiled, “Maybe we could come back next month after the fishing tournament. By that time we should have answers to some of our questions.”

“I’d love that,” answered Carrie pulling her head onto Bob’s shoulder and wrapping her arm around his waist. They simply laid in their contentment for a few minutes before facing the world again.

The sun was low in the sky when the plane started down the Pescadero runway. Bob and Carrie were tucked into the back as Dave guided the plane toward San Diego. Carrie closed her eyes hoping the rumble of the plane would lull her to sleep.
Work will seem dull after this weekend of surprises,
she thought as she drifted off.

Bob sat quietly and thought about the latest news he’d just heard from Dave. It was possible that someone removed the safety wire and loosened those bolts on purpose, causing the alternator belt on the plane to come off. That was hard to believe, but Dave had called the mechanic in Cabo and grilled him about his repair work.  The mechanic insisted that the work was inspected and he had a record to prove it. The bolts had been tightened and the safety wire had been inserted.

If that was true, then who had cut the wire? It had to be someone at Pleasure Cove. The plane only sat idle for one hour while they ate breakfast. Bob decided to keep this bit of news from Carrie for right now. He was certain this was a message to him – a warning about investing in the motel. He didn’t like being threatened even when it was this vaguely.

But, what troubled him even more was the idea of someone at the motel spying on them and reporting back to the timeshare firm. This confirmed his suspicion that someone was passing information and the timeshare investors were using it to sabotage the motel just to lower its value. But, proving that would be a challenge.  And, takeover firms wouldn’t hesitate to play dirty like driving the motel into bankruptcy so they could buy it for a rock bottom price.  This was not exactly what he had planned when he agreed to help Jose. It started out as just a small loan. Now, he would have to think seriously about what to do for everyone’s protection.

The plane glided onto the Santa Ana runway in Orange County under the night lights of the city. Everyone was quiet as they emptied the plane, cleared customs and headed toward the terminal. Bob walked Carrie to her car placing her bag in the front seat. She wrapped her arms around his waist hugged him before lifting her head for a final kiss.

“Call me when you get some time this week, Bob, and I’ll cook dinner for us,” said Carrie pulling out her keys. Bob leaned forward as she settled into the driver’s seat and smiled, “Give me a day or two to catch up on phone calls and I’ll be in touch.”

He watched her drive away and thought about her involvement.
If they knew about him, they now knew about her.
Maybe he should keep her away from Pleasure Cove for a while until he sorted this out. He would not jeopardize her safety. She had become too important to him - which was even a little frightening to him.

Two days later Bob was catching up with his work. He ran his hand across his face. He had made all the final fish tournament details with Jose. He’d decided not to speak on the phone with him about the plane trouble. If there was a spy at the motel, he wasn’t going to give him any more information by talking on the phone.  He had racked his brain wondering who could have sabotaged that plane and there were only a few choices. He would discuss them all with Jose but his money was on Pedro who sat at the front desk, was bi-lingual and could easily disappear for a few minutes without the staff noticing.

One more thing to add to the list,
he thought to himself –
check out everyone’s background.
He would try to spend more time chatting with Pedro next weekend during the tournament.  Now, he had to focus on his business which needed some attention. His medical supply company had good managers but he knew they had delays with one Texas manufacturer. And he couldn’t neglect Carrie. Maybe he should call her now. Hearing her voice would cheer him up. He could always call Texas later.

“Hi, this is Carrie,” she responded picking up the phone.

“Hello, yourself,” Bob replied, “What are you up to today?”

She smiled cradling the phone as she stood in the kitchen. “I’m making some of those biscuits you love,” she said tempting him, “And I’ve got honey to drizzle on them.”

“I’ll be right over,” Bob joked, “I was calling to take you up on that dinner offer.” He looked at his calendar, “What day looks good to you?” he asked.

“How about tonight?” Carrie replied, “I’ve missed you.”

“I can make that work,” Bob agreed, “I’ve missed you, too. Is seven OK?”

“Perfect, I’ll see you then.” She hung up the phone and stirred the batter. “Now what will go with these biscuits?” She thought for a minute, “Maybe some baked ham and garlic mashed potatoes with strawberries dipped in dark chocolate for dessert.”  She smiled and began planning an evening at home that he wouldn’t forget.  Her roommate was gone so they had the house to themselves. She put on her favorite Adele CD and began cooking.

Bob’s last call for the day was to his local attorney. He needed someone to give him legal advice. Maybe Roy knew an attorney well-versed in Mexican law. There had to be a legal ploy that could stall this problem. He dialed the number waiting while Roy’s secretary put him through.

“Hello, Roy,” greeted Bob, “How’s the family?”  The men chatted for a moment about kids and college before Bob addressed the heart of the matter. “Listen, Roy, do you know someone who is experienced in international law? I’ve invested in a little motel just over the border, and it seems like a Latin timeshare company is suddenly interested in buying it out.  I sure would like to persuade them to go look elsewhere.”

“Our firm does have an associate in San Diego who might know someone,” responded Roy, “I’ll give him a call for you. Shall I pass on your number to him?”

“That would be great. Remember when our families used to camp every summer in the cove near Laguna Beach?  I want to keep this little place just like that if I can. Thanks for your help, Roy; I’ll let you know how it goes.”

Chapter 9

While Bob showered, he thought over the day. Everything was ready for this weekend. Now, he just had to decide what to do with Carrie next weekend. Maybe they could drive up to Santa Barbara so he could keep her out of danger until he had a better handle on things. She would love the romance of a coastal drive and being spoiled at a fancy motel.

He grabbed a bottle of wine as he walked out the door and threw his duffel bag in the trunk. If things went well, he’d spend the night since he wouldn’t see Carrie for several days.  He smiled just thinking about her.

Carrie opened the door at Bob’s knock kissing him in the doorway. She led him into the den where she had lit the fireplace and set candles around. But, Bob was mesmerized by the pale cream diaphanous gown that Carrie was wearing. It was so simple and delicate with no collar or sleeves, but he could see right through it and she looked delicious moving across the room. She wore a new perfume; he noticed the hint of citrus.

“Forget about dinner, I just want you,” declared Bob pulling her into his arms to kiss her again. “You smell wonderful,” he kissed behind her ears.

She slid her arms around his neck and kissed him for a long time before pulling back. “I can bring dinner in here so we can eat in front of the fire if you’d like.”

“Why don’t you get the plates and I’ll open the wine?” Bob offered. He followed her into the kitchen for a bottle opener and glasses. “Mm-m,” it smells good in here, too,” he noticed as she handed him the opener.

“Baked ham with apples and cloves and garlic mashed potatoes. You’re gonna eat like a farm boy tonight, baby. But dessert’s a surprise.”

“Taste the wine, Carrie, tell me if you like it. I’m already drunk just looking at you in that dress.” He ran his hand lightly down her back.

Carrie gave his a sexy smile and lifted the wine glass to her lips. “Very nice,” she shared handing him the glass so he could take a sip, too. He placed his lips right where she had sipped. They exchanged an intimate glance before she turned to pull the ham out of the oven. She let it cool while she prepared the plates then sliced the ham and poured some of the juices over the meat.

“Can you take this one, Bob, and I’ll carry mine.” She followed him to the coffee table and set across from him with her back to the fireplace. Bob noticed immediately that the firelight illuminated her dress so he could watch her nipples graze the fabric each time she moved. He tried to focus on the food, but gave up for a moment sipping his wine as he watched her. It seemed so natural the way she intrigued him by touching his hand, stroking her wine glass or lifting her hand to her face.

“Is your food OK?” Carrie asked when she noticed him holding his fork. He nodded and took a taste of the baked apple seasoned with cinnamon and honey. He bit into a biscuit and moaned with pleasure at the butter she had melted inside it. Carrie smiled as she refilled their wine glasses and asked Bob about Pleasure Cove, “Any news from Jose?”

“No, I’ll see him this weekend to get updates. I’d rather not discuss any more issues on the phone. I did call my lawyer who is referring me to someone in San Diego. I’m hoping there is a simple legal maneuver we can do to delay things to give us time to strategize.”
