“I
can stay with her,” Josette said.

“Uh,
no. You need to keep your control freak alpha away from my house until I’m
ready to see him. Whether this works or not, tomorrow night we’re going
dancing. Breena, you’re coming too.”

Breena
smiled. “Why don’t you get Seraphine to stay with you? She can join us on our
girls’ night out as well.”

Bridget
nodded. “Sound plan. Okay, werelock. Go do your thing. I’ll just browse through
your drink selection in the kitchen. I’m suddenly parched.”

Cade
snorted and walked off while Bridget headed toward the kitchen, Breena and
Josette on her heels. She hoped like hell this worked. Of course, if it did,
she supposed she’d have to cut down on the dog jokes. Maybe she should have
asked to become a puma instead. Wouldn’t that have made Micah choke on a
hairball…!

Bridget
smiled. She might not like this whole mate thing, but she was going to have fun
torturing the alpha for many years to come. Assuming she let him live that long.

Chapter Six

Seraphine
held the potion up to the light. “Are you sure you want to drink this stuff?
There’s nothing wrong with being human.”

“I
need to be on equal footing with Micah. He would always hold it over me that
I’m just a human and can’t possibly understand the dynamics of being a wolf,
much less an alpha. This opportunity is too good to pass up.”

“So
you’ve accepted the mating?”

“I
know enough about wolves to know I can’t fight it … he would just track me down
and haul me back to his bedroom by my hair. But it doesn’t mean I can’t give
him a little grief along the way. I see it like this: he marked me without
permission, so he deserves a little punishment. He doesn’t have to know I’ve
accepted it.”

Seraphine
smiled. “So you’re going to be your usual charming self around him and make him
work for it.”

“Exactly.”
Bridget nodded. “And my plan goes into effect tomorrow. The moment he hears I’m
out kicking my heels up, he’ll show up. If he even so much as thinks I’m
looking at other guys, his wolf will go nuts and prod him into action.”

“You
might not like the action he takes.”

“Meh.
I can handle one little alpha wolf.”

Seraphine
laughed. “There is nothing
little
about Micah Smythe. And I do mean nothing. The bulge in his pants every time
you’re within sight is a little hard to miss.”

“Yeah,
I suppose there are perks to the position. Think I could ever get him to wait
on me hand and … paw?”

“Not
likely. He’ll probably expect
you
to
wait on
him
.”

Bridget
laughed so hard she cried. “If I serve him anything, it will be dumped over his
head or in his lap. No way am I going to bow and scrape before the almighty
alpha. Besides, I’m going to be an alpha too.”

“You
aren’t a wolf yet. How do you know where you’ll rank?”

Bridget
arched a brow and placed her hand on her hip. “Do you honestly see me as an
omega or beta?”

“Uh,
no. Although maybe, now that you’ll be the alpha female, you could teach
Josette some of those ball-busting moves of yours. Poor thing never stands up
for herself. I think those wolves have her so beaten down, she doesn’t know how
to go after what she wants.”

“You
mean Max, don’t you?”

Seraphine
nodded. “I’ve seen the looks he casts her way, and she returns them when she
thinks no one is watching. It’s longing and lust, pure and simple.”

“Maybe
we can help her once I get things worked out with Micah. I think it would be
great for her to go out on a date, but I’m not sure I want her having a
relationship with an incubus. Too dangerous.”

“If
she really wants him, I’m sure Jared and Cade could come up with something to
help them out. Some way for her not to lose her soul if they sleep together.”

“Maybe.
It’s something to look into, for sure.”

Seraphine
sighed and tossed the potion to Bridget. “Okay,
chickie
.
Bottoms up.”

Bridget
uncorked the bottle, opened her mouth, and guzzled the contents. The tart taste
of raspberries hit her tongue and she was thankful the werelock had flavored it
with something, because truly, the neon-green goo looked seriously
unappetizing.

“Now
we wait,” Bridget said. “Cade told me there was a chance I wouldn’t experience
any side effects.”

“Let’s
hope you’re one of the lucky ones.”

Bridget
smiled. “I think I—”

The
smile slipped from her face and she grabbed her stomach right before a loud
rumble and gurgle sounded in the room. Seraphine’s eyes went wide a moment
before Bridget bolted from the room. She barely reached the toilet before she started
heaving. So much for pulling through with no side effects.

Breena
circled Bridget. “Are you sure you’re up for this? Seraphine said you puked
your guts up for three hours yesterday, then moaned and groaned the rest of the
night.”

“I’m
sure. And watch this!” Bridget smiled as she held out her hand. With an extreme
amount of focus, and a bit of pain, she was able to transform her nails into
claws, her fingers into toes, and her hand finally formed a paw. A snow white
one. She wondered what the rest of her looked like in wolf form. She hadn’t undergone
the full transformation yet.

Breena’s
mouth dropped. “You shouldn’t be able to do that! The full moon isn’t here
yet.”

“Maybe
it has to do with being bitten by an alpha?”

“I
don’t think that would matter.” Breena peered at her closer. “Are you sure
you’re completely human?”

“As
far as I know.”

“Hmm.”
Breena squinted at her. “I think it’s time we delve into your past a bit.
Didn’t you say your mom never knew her dad?”

“He
was a drifter, is what Gram always said.”

Drifter
, my ass,” Breena muttered. “You
have to have
magick
in you to be able to transform
like that so quickly. I’d bet my wand you’re part
fae
.”

“Your
wand?
Really
? Why don’t you bet
something that’s actually worth more than a matchstick?”

Breena
huffed at her.

“Oh,
come on. You know your wand is a little wonky. I’m surprised Cade lets you keep
the thing in the house. Especially after it attacked him when you first met.”

A
smile spread across Breena’s lips. “That was rather funny.”

Bridget
smoothed her hands down her skintight sleeveless shirt and miniskirt. “So, how
do I look?”

“Well,
you’re either trolling for men, or you’re going to charge by the hour. Then
again, those two go hand in hand.”

Bridget
blew a raspberry at her.

“Micah
is going to lose it when he sees you,” Seraphine said.

Josette
frowned. “Are you sure you want to do this? I don’t know that baiting him is
such a good idea. Besides, how is he going to know where to find you?”

“You’re
going to tell him. After we’re at the club and I’ve found a few men to dance
with.” Bridget smiled. “He’ll come running when his omega is concerned.”

Josette
sighed. “I don’t like this.”

“Suck
it up, Buttercup.” Bridget slugged her on the arm. “Just think. After tonight,
there will be an alpha pair leading the pack.”

“If
you don’t kill each other first,” Josette muttered.

“I
heard that!”

“Come
on,” Breena said. “Everyone grab hold of each other and I’ll transport us to
the club. No sense paying to park if we don’t have to.”

Bridget
grabbed Josette’s hand and Breena’s. Once Seraphine had hold of Breena’s other
hand, the witch blinked them from Bridget’s home to the fae club a few miles
away. Bridget did a quick check to make sure she was in one piece, earning a
glare from Breena. The witch might have wicked abilities, but the whole
transportation thing always freaked Bridget out.

Breena
flashed a smile at the bouncer as they walked past the long line and went
straight inside. Bridget had never questioned their good fortune, but she had
to wonder if Breena had worked some charms for the fae who owned the club.
Maybe she’d dated the bouncer at one point.

Inside,
lights pulsed in time with the beat of the music. It wrapped around her, the
fae magick in the place insisting she dance. Bridget grabbed Seraphine and
headed onto the dance floor, leaving Breena and Josette to find a table. Just
as she’d predicted, it didn’t take long to garner some male attention. The
hands caressing her didn’t arouse her in the slightest, but the males were nice
to look at––although one was almost
too
pretty.

Sweat
glistened on her skin as she plastered herself to the front of the cutest one.
He placed his hands on her hips, holding her close. She wouldn’t let it go any
further, but the attention was nice. No reason for there to be a bloodbath,
though.

There
was a vibration in the air, a shift that caused her to look toward the door. If
the look in her mate’s eyes proved any indication, she was in very big trouble.
His nostrils flared as he neared her. The hands clenched at his sides told her
just how much he’d love to hit one of the men she was dancing with.

Bridget
pulled herself out of the male’s arms and turned to face her mate. His eyes
flashed gold and then red as he watched the men she’d been dancing with. One by
one, they turned and fled, leaving her to face the irate alpha by herself. His
nose flared again and she realized he was taking in her scent.

“Dancing
with strange men turns you on?” he asked.

She
pursed her lips. “Not particularly. But what if it did?”

“Don’t
lie to me.” He growled. “You’re turned on right now. I know for a fact, if I
were to stick my hand in your pants, you’d be wet.”

“You’re
so crude.”

He
stalked closer. “No. Crude would be telling you that I’m about two seconds from
hauling you outside, stripping you naked, and fucking you right there in the
parking lot until you can’t stand up.”

Bridget
locked her knees to keep from sinking to the floor as she pictured that very
thing. She’d never admit it to him, but she couldn’t think of anything she’d
love more. But if she didn’t ask for it, how would she get him to carry through
with it?

She
licked her lips. “I think you’re jealous.”

“Now
why would it bother me that my
mate
is nearly fucking another man on the dance floor?”

“I
don’t recall agreeing to be your mate.”

“You’re
mine, Bridget.” His eyes glowed yellow again as the wolf inside peered out at
her. “Never forget that.”

Bridget
tossed her hair over her shoulder. “Just because you say it’s so doesn’t make
it real. What if I don’t want to be your mate? You may have marked me, but that
doesn’t mean I’m going to roll over and thank you.”

“Outside.
Now.”

It
was rather impressive how he could speak through clenched teeth. Maybe just one
more little poke…

“You’re
not
my
alpha, Micah. Don’t even think
about telling me what to do.”

“You
were warned.”

Before
she could utter a word of protest, which she really didn’t want to do, he
heaved her over his shoulder and began stalking through the club. Except he was
going the wrong way. When he reached the rear of the club, he went through a
hidden door she’d never noticed before and stormed into the alley.

She
landed on her feet with bone-jarring force. Before she could think of something
to say, he’d jerked her skirt up and torn her panties from her body. Her mouth
opened and closed, but nothing came out.

Micah
jerked his belt from his pants and wrapped it around her wrists, caging her
hands over her head with one of his. Her lips parted as she watched him
unfasten his pants. There was already a bead of pre-cum on the head of his cock
and she wanted to lick it off. Her gaze jerked up to clash with his. The feral
look in his eyes made her heart race.

“Mine.”
His lips crashed down on hers, his kiss both dominant and brutal. And it only made
her wetter.

His
free hand lifted her thigh around his hips and as he moved in closer, his cock
brushed against her slick folds. The gentleness of their first coupling was
gone. Micah was more wolf than man right now, but Bridget didn’t mind. She
liked the wildness inside of him and felt her wolf responding in kind.

He
thrust inside of her with one long stroke and she cried out against his lips.
She felt so very full, and more aroused than she’d ever been before. She didn’t
think things could possibly get hotter between them than their encounter at his
house, but she’d been wrong. As he plunged inside of her again and again, she
was helpless to do anything but accept him. Her nipples pebbled against her bra
and she wanted to break free of her bonds so she could tear her clothes from
her body. She wanted to feel him against her, skin to skin, as he claimed her
once more.

Micah
released her hands to reach between them and stroke her clit. She dropped her
hands over his head, bringing him closer. He fucked her long and hard, the
force of his thrusts bouncing her against the brick exterior of the building.
She’d likely have a bruise or two later, but gods … was it worth it.

Sensations
overwhelmed her and she cried out his name as her release ripped through her,
sending her soaring. As her body pulsed from the sheer joy of her climax, she
felt him come inside of her.

“Mine,”
he said again.

“Yes,
yours,” she whispered. “Always yours.”

He
buried his face in her neck and inhaled deeply. Micah jerked back, his eyes
golden slits. “What did you do? You smell wrong.”

“I
had to do it.” Bridget wiggled her hands until the belt fell to the ground.
