Chapter 8

Nate moved off of her and Farrah lay where she was. Her body was depleted of all energy and even when he started to kiss her neck softly she didn’t move. “You’re so quiet.”

“I never knew it could be like that.”

It sounded quaint to her ears but it was mystifying all the same. Farrah would have started sooner if she had known it would be like that. She looked over into the rest of the room and her clothes made her remember something. Her heart sank and her cheeks turned red. There was no telling how many people had just heard her going on like that.

“What’s wrong Farrah?”

“Nothing. I’m just exhausted.”

He pulled her to his chest, laying her head down as her body curled into his naturally. “Then sleep Farrah. You deserve some sleep.”

Her mind went to the listening device on the floor and the com in her ear. There was no way that she was ever going to live it down. Farrah knew that she had to betray someone and her job was looking less and less important. She had to find a way to keep Nate safe.

As his warmth surrounded her, she decided that it would have to wait till morning. She was asleep in moments, unaware of what was going on just a half a mile from his compound. The troops had rallied and while they slept in each other’s arms, the ATF were planning an early morning raid. Information had come in and they were sure that this time, Nate wouldn’t be able to weasel his way out of it. They were going to take him down once and for all.

***

Farrah was awakened with a sound from inside of her ear. She had forgotten about everything, but now she was reminded of why she was supposed to be there. “Farrah get out of there. You have fifteen minutes before they storm the place. Get out now.”

She sat up and looked down at the tattooed man next to her. If she told him, her career was gone, but after only a second of thinking about leaving, she knew that she had to warn him. Farrah would never be able to work in law enforcement again, but she was learning quickly that it was not her field. She didn’t want to hunt people down and put them in cages. There was no way that she could watch him get arrested, or worse, hurt in a shootout.

“Come here baby. It is getting cold without you.” Before she could stop him, Nate had pulled her ass against his hard length, pressing into her waiting depth. The sudden pleasure and soreness made her gasp his name, forgetting what it was that she was supposed to be doing. He slide in all the way and back out before she got her wits about her.

“Stop Nate. We’ve got to go.”

He pushed back in quickly, taking her breath away. “Your stop means go Farrah.”

Her eyes closed as he started to thrust into her hard and fast like she liked it. “Oh fuck Nate, stop! We’ve got to go.”

“I am not stopping until you come.”

His hands held her still as he rutted into her from the side. Nate could never get enough of her and her pussy was as tight as the first time he had slipped it in. His hand played with her nipples as she came within a minute. He had never met someone that was able to find completion so fast. It stroked his ego and he couldn’t help but fuck her harder.

“Nate the cops are coming!”

She was just barely able to catch her breath when he ripped out of her and then drilled back in before he looked down at her with those searing eyes. He was still inside of her deep, throbbing, taking away all other thoughts. “What do you mean?”

“Please Nate. The cops are going to be here in ten minutes, ATF raid. We have to get out of here.”

“How do you know this?”

His cock didn’t move anymore and so help her she still wanted him to take her. The hell with the consequences, but she couldn’t, wouldn’t let him get arrested if she could stop it. He yanked out of her and covered her body with his own. Pinning her, as he waited for her answer, Farrah found it hard to meet his gaze.

Farrah looked down at the cock resting on her stomach and then back up into his eyes. She didn’t want to see the moment when he realized that she had betrayed him. When he realized that everything they had wasn’t real. It was though, but he wouldn’t believe it.

“I love you Nate. Please let’s go. I don’t want you to get hurt or go to jail.”

“You’re a cop?”

She nodded her head, already seeing the rage in his eyes because of it. The look that she had dreaded was there. She was going to lose him, her job, everything.

“I love you Nate. I didn’t know you when I took this job. Please believe me. Everything changed when kissed and then last night…”

He sat back and got up suddenly. “I love you too Farrah. This is going to make telling you about what I do and getting you to agree to live a life of crime with me a little more straightforward. If you want to be with me, we leave now. If you don’t love me, stay and keep your job.”

Her eyes were misty and she moved towards him. That she even had a choice was enough for her. “I want to be with you Nate. I’ve waited a long time for you.”

It felt like she had waited forever for a man to be her own and now that she had him, the last thing she wanted to do was lose him.

They started to get dressed and Farrah bent over to pick up her shirt. He tried to hand her the bra on the ground. “Leave it there.”

He looked at her a little strange, but didn’t argue with her. Nate supposed that they would have to have every conversation over. He hated that she lied, but if they got out of this, he knew he could forgive her.

Farrah didn’t have the noise in her ears anymore, but there was still the device in the bra. She put her finger to her lips and after he pulled a few things out of a safe and made a call, the two of them took off to his garage. She thought they were stuck with no way out, but Nate always seemed to have a plan.

There was a secondary entrance way that started from underground and took them out almost a mile from the house. Farrah just buckled up and said a prayer. She knew that no one would understand what she had done, choosing a man like Nate over everything else. Farrah would never be able to live a normal life again. Everything sunk in and she looked over at him, trying to assure herself that she had made the right decision.

“It’s going to be okay love.” His smile set her mind at ease and she tried to return the gesture. No matter what happened, Farrah didn’t think she could regret the choice she was making in that moment.

Chapter 1

“You need to go home Fiona, you look beat.”

She was, but there was still more to do. “I can’t. I got that research paper due tomorrow. Did you already get it done?”

Debra nodded. “Yeah. Why didn’t you?”

“Just didn’t. Been working too much I guess. This place is always a mess when I come back after a day or two off.”

“It’s just a job, remember that.”

Fiona cared too much. She had spent almost all of her extra time at the library. She had gotten the librarian job when she was a freshman and now that she was about to graduate in a couple of months, she was going to miss it. There were a few fundraisers for the new wing that had been taking up too much of her time. She wanted to see it through though, leave something behind as she moved into her career.

“I’m just going to miss this place, aren’t you?”

Debra shook her head and wrinkled up her nose. It was clear that she was not going to miss anything. “I’ve hated it since they assigned this for my work program.”

“Well it’s been nice having you here. Everybody else was over sixty, so it was nice to have a student to work with.”

“I am just ready to get out of here, school in general and move on. It has been a long six years.”

“I have to agree there.”

“You want to get a drink? I am sure that will keep till morning and then you can bang it out like you always do.”

It sounded good, some time to chill out and get away. Fiona agreed and she closed her books. Putting them in her backpack, she left out with them. She figured she would go back afterwards and just get in with her key.

Debra drove while Fiona pulled her hair out of the bun and put a little lipstick and mascara on. Her blonde hair came down to mid-back and it started to stream back with the opened window. Fiona was going to miss California and its warm nights that made the feeling possible. She was from New England and had gotten used to the weather in the balmy state.

She pulled her shirt out of her skirt and opened up the collar a little more. It was as good as it was going to get coming straight from work and she looked at Debra, always ready to go out. Fiona wished she was as carefree. The two women had met a few years back when they had lived on the same floor, just down the hall in the dorms. Last year, they had decided to go in together for a house and had been leaving together ever since. They were like night and day though. Debra was dark-haired and partied most every night, while Fiona was more reserved and kept to small gatherings. Their majors were just as different, Debra into production and Fiona studying to be an actuary. But with all their differences, it worked.

“Do you still have that perfume in here?”

“Of course.”

“I got a joint if you want it.”

Fiona nodded and looked in the dashboard. It was her only vice and since it had gone legal, there was no guilt, much like having a drink. It was what had given the two the opportunity to meet in the first place. Fiona had been smoking in her room and Debra had come knocking. Fast friendship and study sessions with thick blue clouds became the norm.

She was feeling less uptight, but the bar was still crowded and Fiona was looking for an out after an hour. Debra caught her trying to sneak out. “Where are you going?”

Fiona shrugged and smiled guiltily. “Home, or to do more research and finish the paper.

Debra shook her head, like it was expected but still disappointing. “What? It’s like twenty percent of my grade Debra.”

“Fine go, but don’t wait up. I am feeling frisky tonight.”

She turned to walk away. Fiona knew that meant she would not getting any sleep tonight because Debra was going to bring one of her dance partners back. Deciding that the school library was sounding even better, she headed back that way on foot. It was only a few blocks and it wasn’t long before she was back where she started. The only difference was it was even later and she still had a bit of a buzz.

Fiona got in with her key, but forgot to lock up when she moved into the interior. She didn’t even have to turn on the lights, so familiar with the set-up. Moving back to the research area, she grabbed the book off the shelf that she had left and sat down on one of the couches in the back. It was too peaceful though, the words too small and her eyes were soon burning.

Squinting she set the book down, convincing herself that she just needed to rest her eyes for a minute. A minute turned into longer and Fiona fell asleep on the soft couch.

Chapter 2

Carl walked into the library early in the morning. It was strange that he didn’t have to use his key to get in. As an alumni and on the fundraising board, he was there to look over some financial paperwork before he started working on his own business. There was a big gala a week away and his company was planning to make a big donation, but Carl was thorough and he wanted to make sure that everything was in order first.

The room was cool, the overhead fans still on. He made a note, wondering how much could be saved in energy costs if they turned them off overnight. His mind was always looking to quantify things and make them work. The library was a project that his father had insisted on and since he had gone to USC as well, he figured it could have been worse. Carl had some good times there, but it had been ten years since he graduated.

Like most business majors, he had to spend a lot of time in the library when he was a student. Carl had always been serious and when it came time to go to school and take over the family business, he had hit the ground running and had finished a year early, cramming in as much as he could to just get it over with.

He smiled as he recognized the same couches in the corners that he had slept on many nights. They were far more comfortable than they looked and there had been many times a janitor woke him up to send him home.

Stopping, he noticed some blonde hair sticking around the corner of one of the chairs, long and practically touching the ground. He figured that someone else had been laid victim to the comfy chairs and went to wake them up and send them on their way. It was somehow symbolic, taking up the next part of his life, no longer the stressed out student that couldn’t get his grades high enough.

Carl stopped again when he saw more of the woman lying on the couch. Her face was so serene and beautiful. Her eyes were turned up and she had high, refined cheekbones. She was beautiful and he caught himself wishing that he could see her eyes.

“Miss?”

The woman turned towards him, her skirt rising and her cleavage pushing forth from her top. He groaned inwardly and leaned down to shake her. “Miss?”

She sat up, her blue eyes moving to his. “What?” Her voice was sharp, but he didn’t seem to worry about it. Carl hated to be woken up as well.

“You’re in the library Miss and it’s six o clock in the morning.”

That seemed to reach her and she sat up a little groggy, rubbing her eyes as she met his again. Her face changed a little, the man in front of her was no janitor, but a dark-haired man that towered over her. She took in the smart suit and figured he was one of the faculty. “What are you doing here at six in the morning?”

“I’m here to go over some paperwork for the fundraiser. I got work to do later, so now was the only time.”

“How’d you get in?”

“The door was unlocked.” Carl wasn’t sure why she was the one asking all the questions. She looked at the slim gold watch on her wrist and then cursed like she didn’t believe him when he had told her what time it was.

“I’ve got to go. Thanks for waking me up.”

Carl was a bit put off, not used to being dismissed in such a way. The woman was beautiful and he wanted to know her name, talk to her for a minute. “Wait, where are you going?”

She looked back once, blonde hair falling in her face before she pushed it back out of the way. “I’ve got to finish a paper. Thanks again.”

And just like that, she was gone and Carl was left looking where she had retreated. She was like a ghost, just gone yet leaving an impression on all who seen her. She was a student though, he reminded himself, way too young for him.

Moving away from the research corner, he moved to the business office off to the side and located what he was looking for. He went through all of the last three years on file and copied some of the more important statements. Everything was looking to be in order, but he still wanted his personal accountant to take a look before he put his money out there. Carl didn’t mind helping out, but he didn’t want to if the investment wasn’t sound. The school was going strong and would be around for a while. His father wanted the family’s last name put on something that would be there forever. Tom Castroy wanted the family name to carry on as some sort of legacy. Carl thought that the money could be spent in a better place, but it was what he wanted, so Carl just wanted to make sure everything was on the up and up.

He called Judy and left a message to check the fax machine when she got in. Carl was sure that it was fine, but he wanted another opinion, a double check just to make sure. He was leaving the library and he found himself taking the long way back passed the couches that the woman had been sleeping in. He wasn’t sure why, but her tired blue eyes and smile had affected him in some way.

***

Carl was back at work and the gala was the next evening. He was made to meet with a couple of the staff members there that would be running it, to go over what he was to say in acceptance of the library being named after them. It had been expected of course, one of the main reasons his father was giving so much was so that their name would be in large print above the door. When a man gets older, he worries about the legacy that he will leave behind. With rich men it is even worse because they have to fight the urge to give it all away and to deal with the children without an inheritance. Carl had his own fortune though, so Tom was in the process of giving most of his away.

It was already after five, but he didn’t have a schedule. Carl had to stay till the work was done and it was almost seven by the time he made his way over to the library. It didn’t close till eight, but he knew that he had been expected hours before that. People were more lenient with him Carol usually, so when he moved through the double glass doors, he was not thinking he would run into a pissed off librarian that was sick of waiting for him.
