Chapter 6

I lie in bed alone and wonder if it was all just a dream.

Did I actually sleep with a complete sexy stranger?

Did I just have the best sex of my life?

I’m still naked and my body is telling me that I had sex or I had one hell of a workout. I stretch casually and look at my pile of clothes on the floor.

Yep, it definitely happened.

I smile to myself and remember to give myself a toast for a job well done.

I’m really proud of myself.

I don’t know when Christopher left, but he must have done it quietly.

Actually, he could have been as loud as a stampede of elephants and I still probably wouldn’t have awoken.

I slept like a baby on cough medicine.

I roll over onto my side and think about my night. Christopher was the perfect man to have an evening with. Wow…

What a dream.

What a night…

Knock, knock.

The loud knocks at my door bring me back to reality.

“Knock knock chica!”

It’s Angela.

“One minute, I have to get dressed.”

“Are you alone?”

“Yes,” I sigh.

“But you’re still naked in there? Someone has been a very naughty girl!”

“Oh hush and wait!” I say before I roll out of the bed and put on a t-shirt and shorts. “Come in.”

Angela pokes her head in the door. “Are you sure it’s safe?”

“Get your butt in here.”

She walks in, sits in the chair at my desk, and spins around, “You had a magnificent time last night. You don’t even have to tell me.”

“How do you know?”

“I heard you,” she laughs.

“That’s so damned embarrassing.”

“It’s not embarrassing! I’m glad that you had fun, that’s what it was all about. So, was it everything you wanted?”

“He was more than everything. I’ve never had sex like that in my life. There really are no words to describe how great it was. I’m a little sad that I only got to do it once!”

“You didn’t get his number?”

“I thought that you didn’t get the numbers of one night stands? Isn’t that like breaking the rules or something? The key is to do it once and never do it again.”

Angela wipes away a fake tear and dramatically says, “They grow up so fast. I didn’t even have to teach you that part.”

“I guess I’m a quick learner.”

“Do you think that you would do something like this again?’

I take a moment to decide, “Probably not. It was fun, but it’s not me. I’ve had my fun, now it’s time for me to focus on this new job tomorrow. I think it’s best for me to be single for a little while.”

“But you still plan to date right?”

“Yeah, I guess.”

“You need to sound a little bit surer of yourself. Mr. Sexy Sexy was only the beginning! Now tell me, didn’t it feel good to get one of the hottest men on earth?”

I grin as the butterflies flutter in my stomach, “I couldn’t believe that he wanted me. There were so many beautiful women for him to choose from.”

“You were one of the hottest women there, Rebecca. You need to have more confidence in yourself. What is it going to take for me to show you how cute and amazing you are?”

I shrug. “I don’t know. Maybe a billboard in Times Square.”

“Geesh, you’re expensive.”

I smile, “I have expensive taste.”

Chapter 7

I wake up on Monday morning feeling refreshed.

The day is about to be a great one.

My body is still buzzing from the fantastic sex that I had on Saturday night and I’m about to go and finally meet my new boss.

I haven’t actually met him yet, but I’m one of the personal assistants.

I’m one of four, that’s how busy this man is.

I know that he’s older and everyone says that he’s very particular.

Martin Walsh doesn’t play around and I have to make sure that I’m on my A-game. This is a far cry from working the front desk at the hotel.

I’m used to catering to people’s needs, but I’m not accustomed to catering to just one person. However, I know that I can do this. Work is the one place where I feel extremely competent.

And the pay is so much better.

“Good morning sunshine!” Angela says as she invades my room.

She’s already dressed for work. She is a junior accountant at a large bookkeeping firm. Sometimes I’m jealous of her success.

I should have gotten a degree in business like my mother told me to but instead I went for psychology. It’s a degree that has gotten me nowhere.

I tried grad school, but I didn’t do very well.

It’s not that I didn’t know how to do the work, it was that I didn’t want to.

I don’t wish to listen to other people’s problems all day. I don’t know what I want to do with my life yet but working for Martin Walsh is going to help me tremendously. The pay is top notch. I should have tried to be a personal assistant to the rich man a long time ago.

“Good morning.” I smile. “Are you headed out to work?”

“Yep, I have to go in early today. I made you coffee and a bagel.”

“Cinnamon raisin?”

“With strawberry cream cheese. I ate one too, so I’ll be late home tonight. I have to go to the gym after I get off work.”

“Why can’t you just go to the one in the building?”

“I partied and ate what I wanted this weekend. I have to do some major working out.”

I roll my eyes, “That doesn’t sound fun.”

“I like it.”

“The only reason I would pay for membership at a gym would be to look for hot guys.” I giggle.

“That’s the last place you want to look for a man.  A lot of them are arrogant meatheads - trust me, I know.”

“I’ll take your word for it.”

She walks over to me and gives me a huge hug, “I know you’re going to do amazing today. Knock em’ dead.”

I take a deep breath, “Thanks, but I’m really nervous.”

“You don’t have anything to be nervous about. You’re going to be phenomenal. You are a smart, funny, intelligent woman. You’ll be amazing.”

“Thanks. Love you.”

“Love you right back.”

I watch her as she leaves my room and then I go to my closet. It’s time for me to get dressed.

Two and a half hours later I walk through the doors of my new job, and I’m filled with confidence.

I’ve been listening to self-affirmations all morning and I’m pumped! I’m also pumped full of coffee so nothing can stop me.

I’m greeted at the front desk by Miranda, the manager of the personal assistants.

“Good morning, Rebecca, it’s nice to see you again,” she says with a kind smile.

“Good morning, it’s nice to see you again as well.”

“Are you ready to get started?”

“I am.”

“Great, follow me. There are quite a few things that you need to know before you start. First I am going to take you to my office. You will have to sign some confidentiality agreements.”

“I signed them in HR.”

“I know but there is another.”

“Okay…” I nod.

I follow behind the petite brunette who walks briskly. For someone with short legs and high heels, she sure walks fast.

I have to widen my stride to keep up with her.

She is put together well, not a hair is out of place. Her brown eyes are sharp, and I can tell that nothing gets by her.

“As you know,” she says as we enter the elevator, “Primarily you answer to me. I’m the one that dispenses all of the work. If you have any questions or concerns, come to me. The chain of command is different for personal assistants and we do not fraternize amongst the rest of the staff. We are held to a higher standard. Understood?”

“Yes, ma’am,” I reply.

Geesh, she’s intimidating.

She was all smiles when I met her but now she’s all business.

Her eyes soften, “I apologize, I take this job quite seriously. You don’t have to call me ma’am. I’m not old enough to be your mother. Miranda will do. You can also call me bitch behind my back when I upset you. I’m used to it.”

I gasp, “I would never.”

“You will - and that’s okay.”

I laugh on the inside because I know that she’s most likely right.

But I say to myself that I will only call her a bitch outside of office hours and with people that I don’t work with.

I’m not fool and I want to keep my job.

If I need to call her a bitch, I’ll be sure to say it to Angela.

Not on Twitter, like some of the idiots that I’ve been reading about lately.

Like that idiotic girl that got fired before she started her job at a pizza shop. She was lamenting about starting her position and she got fired over Twitter.

It was kind of hilarious to read but I do worry about my generation sometimes.

We arrive at Miranda’s lush office and I take a seat in front of her desk, it feels like the interview all over again. She delves into her files and pulls out some forms.

“Sign these please.”

I read them over and it basically states that any of the information I receive from her regarding the Walsh family is confidential and that they can fry my ass if I peep a word. I pick up the pen and sign my life away. It feels like I should be signing in blood, but that would probably be way too dramatic for the situation.

She looks the paper over and places it in a leather folder, “Okay, you will be meeting the boss soon. All of us have a meeting in a couple of minutes.”

“I’m excited to meet him.”

“That’s what I need to speak with you about.”

She opens her mouth to speak, but her intercom interrupts her, “Mr. Walsh is in the conference room. He wants to start the meeting right now. Everyone else is waiting.”

The girl sounds slightly stressed.

“We’re on our way right now,” Miranda says as she gathers her things.

She looks straight at me.

“Go into my file cabinet on the wall, top dresser. Get a pen and a pad of paper - always be prepared. Follow me.”

“Yes, Ma’am... I mean Miranda.”

She doesn’t stick around long enough to hear my verbal blunder, she was already out of the door.

Nerves fill my stomach as I quickly grab the notebook and pen and follow her down the hall. This place is certainly fast paced.

Miranda leads me to a conference room and I look through the ceiling to floor windows to see two women and two men are already in the room.

One of the men is sitting at the head of the table, but I don’t see Mr. Walsh yet.

I’ve searched for him on the Internet so I know what he looks like. He’s an older man with a strong jawline.

I’m sure he would have been good looking in his day.

I step inside the meeting room and get a closer look at everyone.

I smile nicely to everyone but then my laser vision focuses on the man sitting at the head of the table and I freeze.

What?

It can’t be…

Chapter 8

It’s Christopher.

My man.

My amazingly, passionate, sensual man.

What in the hell is he doing here?

“Good morning Mr. Walsh. I apologize for being late. I would like to introduce you to Rebecca Green, she’s the replacement for Sarah.”

Miranda looks at me and explains, “I didn’t have time to tell you. This is Christopher Walsh. He is Martin’s eldest son. He is replacing his father as the head of the company. The announcement takes place on Friday.”

My heart pounds as he stands to give me a handshake. “Welcome to the team…”

“Rebecca,” I finish for him.

My heart is racing.

I can barely breathe.

And I can barely think.

Christopher looks at me like he’s never seen me before in his life.

I return his handshake.

Does he not recognize me?

Does he not remember the most incredible night that we just had on Saturday?

Further than that, he’s my fucking boss!

He’s a billionaire!

He’s my billionaire boss, and I screwed him already.

“It’s… umm...nice to meet you too,” I manage to stutter.

“Take a seat, Rebecca, I’ll introduce you to the rest of the team after the meeting.”

Honoring her request wasn’t difficult, as I was too stunned to do anything else.

After the meeting is over, we all have our assignments, and Christopher leaves with Herbert by his side.

That’s the personal assistant that stays with him at all times during the work day.

Herbert is a stupid name for a man in his mid-twenties, by the way.

What was his mother thinking? ‘Oooh, I’m going to name my son Herbert, that way he can build character as the kids pummel him to the ground because of this old stupid name.’

I know I’m being a bit of a douchebag but Christopher didn’t even give me a second glance before he walked out the conference room.

He spent the entire meeting treating me like his face wasn’t buried between my thighs over the weekend!

Sure, it was a one-night stand, and it was dark, but if the two of you cross paths, isn’t it customary to at least acknowledge the other person?

Chelsea, one of other female personal assistants, looks at me and rolls her eyes.

“Were you listening to anything? Go grab one of the laptops from Miranda’s office and get moving. Mr. Walsh’s meeting starts in 5 minutes and he’s going to bite all our heads off if you aren’t there to dictate the meeting. Chop chop girl! There is a huge learning curve here. Either you get the hang of it now or you’re fired tomorrow. Got it?”

“Umm yeah,” I say absentmindedly, “Where am I supposed to go?”

“Really, Rebecca? Where has your head been during the meeting?” Miranda scolds.

The pressure is starting to build.

I already feel like crying.

“I’m sorry, there was just an information overload,” I lie, “I know that I’m going to get the hang of things very quickly. I thought that I was going to be introduced to everyone after the meeting.”

“We don’t have time for those kinds of things,” Miranda says dismissively.

So much for people keeping their word.

That woman clearly said that she could introduce me to everyone after the meeting.

Now she’s gone back on her word and made me feel like an idiot while doing it. I would complain, but my salary is far too large for any complaints.

“So where is the meeting?” I ask.

“It’s in conference room one. Go grab the computer and the recorder. Make sure you take the pen and paper as well.”

“Yes Ma’am. I mean yes, Miranda,” I say quickly.

“Good, after the meeting is over, report back to me and I will look over the notes. We have a few things to go over today. You will learn of all of your responsibilities.”

I nod quickly.

This too much.

The stress is already getting to me.

“Please make yourself as scarce as possible in the meeting. As far as everyone else is concerned, you don’t exist. There is a separate table in the corner of the room. That is where you sit.”

“Got it.”

Miranda looks at me with disgust, “Why are still standing here? Move your ass!”

“Oh! Yes,” I say before I quickly rush out of the room.

I don’t know why I thought my first day would be easy.

It’s complete hell and I want to go home.

Why couldn’t they assign me to picking up his dry cleaning or some mundane task like that? Now I have to sit and listen to Christopher for the next hour.

That truly sucks.

I need some space!

How am I supposed to get through the day?
