The air exploded from his throat when her tongue flicked over the head of his shaft.

“Oh God,” he muttered, tightening his hand in her hair. His hips ground upward of their own accord toward her warm lips. “Sienna, please.”

She didn’t laugh this time, but instead let out a throaty moan that indicated she was just as affected by what was happening as he was. Her head dipped again, and there was no hesitation before she took him fully in her mouth. Warrick’s reality became her and this moment. The silky, warm wetness of her mouth moving on him. He lost all track of time, but finally came back from the brink when he realized he was close to release.

He gripped her around the waist as a low growl rose up in his throat. He lifted her up and pulled her forward, adjusting her body so she straddled him again. Her thighs spread wide over his hips as his shaft prodded the warm, damp entrance to her body.

“I need you,” she said raggedly and sank down, bringing him slowly into her body.

Warrick groaned as he sank inch by inch into her tight, exquisite sheath. His fingers tightened on her hips and he let out a primal roar as he buried himself to the hilt inside her.

Sienna cried out, her inner muscles clenching around him as she leaned forward, her palms sliding on his chest. The angle pulled him out just a bit, and he adjusted his arm around her waist, holding her still as he began a slow penetration up into her.

She rode him, rocking up and down to meet each thrust he made, her cries growing more urgent, her nails digging deeper into his skin to the point where his pleasure mixed with a hint of pain. It brought the wolf inside him closer to the surface. Their raw, fevered joining was almost primal.

He tightened his arm around her waist, roaring as he plunged up into her. Harder. Faster. Until her mindless sobs of pleasure drove them both toward a hard, explosive climax.

After it took them, Sienna fell onto his chest, her body trembling just as much as his was. Warrick blinked in dismay, trying to ground himself again. To get his breath back. It had never been this powerful. So explosive and soul gripping. It went beyond sex. Beyond making love. Tonight had bound them in a way that even the night he’d marked her had failed to do.

She’d seemed almost as primal as he was in their joining. Uninhibited and wild with abandon and pleasure.

He stroked a hand through Sienna’s silky hair and down her damp spine. Another tremble rocked her body and she moaned softly.

The hotel phone rang, jarring his senses and dragging him up from the thick, sensual fog that encompassed them. He frowned and reached over to grab it, muttering an absent greeting. He hung up a moment later and shook his head.

“Who was it?” she asked, still sounding as dazed as he felt.

“Room service. They knocked on our door a few minutes ago. Odd, I didn’t even hear it,” he said absently
. They’d been so caught up in the moment, neither of them had heard the knock on the door?
Thank God it had just been room service. “They’re bringing it back in a few minutes.”

“Mmm. I didn’t hear it either.” Sienna lifted herself off his chest and stared down at him. Her crystal blue gaze was almost glassy with pleasure and exhaustion. “Though I’m not really hungr—holy crap!”

Warrick stilled. “What is it?”

“Your chest.” She pressed trembling fingers against her mouth as her eyes widened in shock. “You’re bleeding, Warrick. I—oh my God, I think I really cut you. With my nails.”

He glanced down, his brows drawing together. Sure enough, there were thin, bloody slashes that were already healing on his chest. The hairs on the back of his neck lifted and he shook his head to push away a sudden sense of disquiet.

“It was pretty intense this time.” He tried to ease her shock by tugging on a strand of hair and offering a slow smile. “Don’t worry about it, baby. It’s almost healed. And besides, I promise I liked it.”

Her cheeks stained with color and she bit her lip. “You’re too forgiving. I tore you up like I was some cat at a scratching post.”

A laugh spilled from his chest and he brushed his thumb over her still-swollen lips. “Just promise you’ll do it again.”

“You’re a sadist.” She rolled her eyes and glanced down at his chest again. “But, wow, you were right. Look at that. Healed already.”

He didn’t need to glance down again to believe her. And the knock on the door had him sliding out of bed anyway.

“Room service,” he murmured and glanced back at her with a wink. “And after that little lovemaking session, I think you’ve definitely built up an appetite.”

He settled a plate of food on her lap a few minutes later, then grabbed his cell phone and disappeared into the bathroom to make a few phone calls.

He had to at least try again to do everything in his power to keep Sienna from being at that exchange.

Chapter Nineteen

Warrick wasn’t pleased. But then, she’d discovered that last night after he’d come back from the bathroom with his cell phone clutched in his hand.

Sienna still wasn’t quite sure what the phone calls had been about, or even to whom, but she had a pretty good guess. He’d been doing everything in his power to try and make sure she wasn’t involved with the meeting that was about to happen. That she wouldn’t be the one to exchange the jump drive.

But if that was the case, he hadn’t gotten his way.

She drew in a slow, steadying breath and glanced around the dim interior of the building. It had the appearance of some kind of old bait or fishing shop. With nets and poles hanging on the walls, covered in dust and spiderwebs. This place was creepy. Almost creepier than the abandoned lab the shifters had been locked up in.

Even though it was midnineties and humid as hell, the abandoned building on the pier somehow managed to be almost chilly. A shiver skated down her spine and she swallowed hard, wrapping her arms around her waist. She’d never let the carefully hidden agents see it, but her nerves were strung tight like the damned violin she used to play in fifth grade.

Despite their promise to her father’s abductors, the agents were once again all together. Here in this abandoned building. Hilliard, Larson, Rafferty, Warrick and Quinton.

Hilliard had tried to tease her on the way over, keep things light, but her stomach was too tied in knots to think about anything beyond what was about to happen.

Though, if she believed the agents’ promise, nothing would happen. They’d sworn to her she wouldn’t be hurt. Warrick had made the same vow this morning, and there’d been a gentle determination in his gaze.

Her mind drifted back to the conversation they’d had just nights ago, when she’d accused him of being afraid of nothing and he hadn’t really denied it. But there was fear in his gaze now. Subtle and almost hidden, but she’d seen it. Warrick was afraid. For her.

Which meant she had no choice but to get out of this freaking mess alive, one way or another. Despite her hesitation to trust the P.I.A., she was beginning to. Or, no, she did.

Oh, she still suspected there was one bad apple, and it was damn frustrating that she couldn’t quite figure out who. But she was beginning to suspect he wasn’t in this small group of agents. And as long as Warrick was nearby, she trusted him to keep her safe.

She lifted her wrist and squinted down at her watch, trying to make out the time. One sixteen. Whoever was supposed to meet her was running late. Or were they? How did these sting things usually go down?

They’d wanted her to come alone, but surely the people who had her father would assume the agents would be nearby? Or maybe both sides knew and were just screwing with each other’s heads?

God, it was so confusing. Way over her head. She would be a terrible apprentice in this whole cloak-and-dagger world of secret federal agents.

“You’re doing fine, Sienna. Just keep calm.”

Warrick’s voice filtered from the earpiece hidden in her ear, and she bit her lip to keep from replying. He’d been sending her words of encouragement for the past fifteen minutes, and it definitely helped hearing him. Knowing he was close by with the other agents.

She pressed a hand to her forehead as a wave of pain flashed through.

Dammit
. These weird headaches needed to stop. Ever since last night she’d been having them, and unfortunately they only seemed to get worse. The headaches and the nausea.

She’d meant to ask Warrick if he had any pain meds, but had forgotten. Though the last thing she’d wanted to do was stress him out in any way by telling him her head was hurting and she might puke at any second.

“Have you come alone?”

And just like that, any hope of relaxing vanished. Her stomach clenched as a wave of fear rose inside her. She tightened her fingers around the jump drive and turned to where the voice had rung out.

“Yes.” Amazingly enough, her reply was steady. Confident even. “I want proof that my father is here.”

There was a shuffle of footsteps in the shadows, then her father’s voice rang out weakly, “Sienna.”

Her pulse quickened, but she wasn’t stupid enough to fall for that again. Who’s to say it wasn’t another recording?

“I want to see him.”

A pause, before more footsteps sounded. Through the light of the dirty glass window near the end of the building, she saw her father’s silhouette.

“I’m all right, Sienna,” he said warily. “You shouldn’t be here. You—”

He broke off on a gasp of pain, as if someone had hit him, and Sienna’s relief was severed as panic and fear swept through her.

“Don’t hurt him!” She took a step forward. “Please, I have the jump drive.”

“Place it on the floor, Sienna,” Warrick ordered gently in her ear. “Tell him you’re placing it on the floor and then start backing away.”

Swallowing hard, Sienna nodded and knelt down, dropping the small object on the floor. “I’m placing the jump drive on the floor, okay?”

“Good. Now step away from the jump drive, Ms. Peters,” the abductor murmured.

“I am. I’m walking away.
Please.
Let my father go.” She took two steps backward, trying to think if she recognized the scratchy voice of the man, but nothing was familiar.

Her father stepped farther into the light, the figure behind him was still in shadows though. Hope sprang inside her and she couldn’t breathe.

“Good job, Sienna. Stay calm and keep backing away.” Warrick’s voice was almost hypnotic, as if he were talking to a child. Full of praise and comfort. “We’ve got you covered, and we’re ready to grab your d—
what the
fuck
.”

From the earpiece she heard ominous thumping sounds and men’s voices rising in alarm and anger.

“Warrick?” She realized her mistake immediately, that she’d said his name aloud.

Pounding footfalls rushed toward her. Sienna stumbled back, but it was too late. The man in shadows was now directly in front of her and had a gun pressed against her temple.

“What do you want?” she asked, the blood draining from her face at a rate that left her woozy. “The jump drive is on the floor.”

“We’re not here for the jump drive, Sienna. We’re here for you.”

They were here for her? The terrifying thought barely took root, before she registered the other comment.
We.
Meaning there were more than one of them. The other one had probably snuck up on the agents and—
no
!

“Warrick!”

“Come on, Ms. Peters, it’s time to leave.”

“No!” She struggled against the man’s grip as he dragged her toward the back door of the building.

“They’re dead now, Ms. Peters. All of them.”

Fear clogged in her throat. No. They couldn’t be dead. They couldn’t! She dragged her heels, twisting her head to look behind her to the shadows where the agents had been hiding.

But her earpiece had gone ominously quiet. Oh God. What if something
had
happened to them? No. She’d know if Warrick was dead. Would feel it in her soul. He had to be all right.

She couldn’t think about it now, but it didn’t stop the blind terror that took over. That had her lashing out at the person holding her as her screams reverberated in the empty building.

“Shut the hell up, or you’ll wish you had, Ms. Peters.”

If she didn’t get away from him, she’d be dead anyway. It was a certainty she didn’t doubt for a minute.

The smell of his stale body odor assaulted her nose as the man grabbed her around the waist and lifted her off the ground, rushing her toward the door.

She smashed her head back against her abductor, but besides another furious curse, he didn’t react much.

“No, please,” her dad’s voice rose with panic from somewhere in the building, “you promised to let her go!”

The man’s nasty laugh had her stomach sinking. “But if we have your daughter, Mr. Peters, you’ll be a little more cooperative in helping us recreate the antishifting drug. Or should I say perfect it, seeing as the one we were using before wasn’t quite working the way we expected.”

“Who are you people?” she choked out. “How can you be so inhumane?”

“Those creatures
aren’t
human, Sienna. You more than anyone should know this.”
