Raymond aimed the gun at Savannah. Savannah, without flinching, used one of her legs and swung it up. Her movement caught him by surprise as her foot made contact with his hand and knocked the gun out of it.
Raymond darted for the gun, but Troy knocked him out before he could reach it.
The front door swung open and in walked other law enforcement agents. Asia and Montana ran in behind them. They headed straight for Savannah.
“We heard everything,” Montana said. “How could I have been so stupid?”
“He had us all fooled,” Savannah said as she hugged them both. “I'll be right back. I need to go say something to my hero.”
“Go get him, girl,” Asia said.
Savannah waited for Troy to finish speaking with the agent. “Ma'am, we need to get your statement too.”
Savannah told him everything that had happened. Troy handed them a disc. “This is what all of this was about,” Troy said.
The agent placed it in an evidence bag. “Prisoners don't take too kindly to former law enforcement behind bars.”
“That's what I'm counting on,” Savannah said.
“We'll be in contact. You and your sisters might be called to the witness stand when this thing goes to trial.”
“I look forward to that day,” Savannah responded.
Savannah allowed Troy to handle things while she and her sisters stood in the background, observing. A few hours later the place was empty. Savannah closed the door and locked it. She leaned on the door and let out a sigh of relief.
“It's over. It's finally over!” she yelled. She stood in the living-room doorway. Troy was drinking some water. Montana had the TV remote and was flipping from station to station. Mike was still around. Asia and Mike were debating.
“Seems like old times,” Savannah said.
“I can't wait to sleep in my own bed again,” Asia commented.
“Mike, go with her. Make sure it's still safe, will you?” Troy said.
“I can take care of myself. Only thing Mike would do is get in the way, anyway,” she responded.
“Man, you're going to let her talk to you like that?” Troy asked.
“Did she say something? I thought it was a bunch of hot air,” Mike teased.
They argued all the way out the door.
Troy looked at Savannah and said, “They'll be okay. Well, if Asia doesn't kill him first.”
They laughed. “Montana, you can stay over if you want.”
Montana threw the remote on the couch and stood up. “Oh no, I'm not going to be a third wheel in this party. I'm going home.”
Montana walked out the door and then turned back around. “Vanna, can I borrow your car? I forgot Asia drove.”
Savannah went to retrieve her keys. “Do not go over the speed limit.”
“Yes, big sis,” Montana teased. She hugged and kissed her on the cheek.
Savannah watched her pull out of the garage. She hit the button to let the garage down. She bumped into Troy when she turned around. He was holding wineglasses and a bottle of wine.
“I think it's time for a toast,” he said.
“I agree.” They walked to the kitchen counter and sat on the bar stools. Troy popped the cork and poured two glasses of white wine.
“To my hero,” Savannah said as she held up her glass.
“I'll drink to that,” Troy said. “Let's see. To the woman who knocked me off my feet, and I mean literally.”
They laughed. “I'll drink to that.” Then Savannah said, “I got another one. To the Blake sisters.”
“To the Blake sisters. Y'all some bad mama jamas,” Troy said.
Their glasses clicked again. After drinking a few glasses of wine, Savannah and Troy were tipsy. Not off the wine, but from being in each other's company. “Whoever makes it to the stairs last has to wash the other one's back,” Savannah said as she slid from the bar stool and they ran to the stairway. She threw her hands up in the air. “You lose.”
Troy turned her around to face him. He kissed her. “No, baby, I'm a winner. Because to wash your back is an honor.”
Troy's phone rang. Savannah headed up the stairs. “Don't make me wait too long.”
Savannah poured her favorite scent of bubble bath into the steaming water. She retrieved a few towels, because it could get messy. She was glad that she moved into the master bedroom. The bathtub was big enough to fit two. This would be the first time she took a bath with a man in this tub. Actually, it would be the first time she had a bath with any man, anywhere. Period. Troy would be her first.
She felt his presence the moment he came to the door. He didn't say anything. She pretended to be oblivious to him being there. She slowly removed her clothes. When she got down to taking off her panties, she turned around and winked at him.
“You sly thing, you,” Troy said as he entered the bathroom.
Savannah entered the bathtub and purposely splashed water on Troy. She blew bubbles at him. She found it sexy to watch him undress. The sight of him in his little boxers turned her on. There wasn't anything little about Troy. The sight of him was enough to make the water temperature go up a notch or two.
They took turns washing each other's bodies. Savannah couldn't remember sharing such an intimate moment with any other man. She had never experienced the feeling she had inside every time Troy touched her body. They were in their own little world. No one else mattered. She picked up the dry towel and wiped the water off Troy's body. Her hand went over every muscle. His body heat radiated onto hers. Troy was the man who broke her lackluster track record with men. He broke Savannah's curse.
