Chapter Three

“Do you… I mean… okay, do you drink the milk?”

“Why, of course.  The milk is so fresh.”

“No need to sanitize?” I stick out my tongue.
Yuck.

“Of course the milk has to be cleaned and sanitized first.”
He leans forward a bit and smiles.  “You know what?  The milk was
not
sanitized when I was a child.”

“What?” I almost see a boy drinking milk full of bacteria.

“My dad,” he says. “is a farmer and my mom is a city girl.  When
they married, my mom asked my dad to get the milk sanitized.  You know what my
dad did?”

“What?”

“He drove in town to drink with friends and left the cows enjoy
their share of straw outside the bar.”

“Are you serious?”

“Definitely.  In our town, you can order straw and water for
your horse from McDonalds, too.  Everything is for farmers.”

“Really?”

“Yup.  Then Dad told Mom, ‘All sanitized.  Good to go.’
That was how he ‘sanitized the cows’.”

“Your mom
actually
believed it?”

“Yup.  City girls.  You know…” Then he adds right away,
“Okay, they are smart.  But there are certain things they don’t know.”  He
winks.

“So…, why do
you
sanitize the milk then?” I ask.

“You know, I went to college.”  Then he stops.  After a long
while, he says, “I met Jean there…”

“Sorry, Paul,” I feel so sorry for making him think of his
late wife.

“Don’t be sorry, Linda.”  Paul looks into my eyes.  “Thank
you for keeping her heart alive.”

I stare at the ceiling, thinking… Yeah… Paul.  He smiled so
happily when we were together.  But I saw sadness in his eyes.  Deep inside.

For a few times, I saw him stealing a quick look at my chest.
I knew he wanted to hear it and touch it.  That’s his wife’s heart, still
beating…

Now, thinking of Paul, I feel warm all over my body.  I feel
like he is part of my life.  Weird, I barely know him.  Why do I feel this
way?  Is this… love?  Or is this pure sympathy for his sadness?  I don’t know.

But I have to admit, I was attracted the moment I saw him.
He looks more like a farmer than a college graduate.  His frame is strong and
broad.  His muscles are rock solid.  Thick wrinkles extend from the corners of
his eyes all the way to his temples.  His skin is rough and well tanned by the
summer sunshine.

When shaking hands with him, I feel the massive strength and
confidence right away.

I feel safe with him.  Really safe.  I have been feeling so
not secure for the last three years.  I want to have a man whose broad chest I
can rest on; a harbor I can retreat into when the ocean is too rough, which had
been stormy for the last three years.

I had never been in a real relationship.  I was just too shy
when I was in high school.  Then I went to college, and then I got sick.  I
never had a chance to love, or be loved.  Having a boyfriend was way too much
of a luxury for me.

But now, for the first time, I feel like I met my prince.  I
feel like I’m healthy enough to love.  Also, I feel like this is just so
natural because my heart had belonged to him.  Now I want to return the heart
back to him.

I put my right hand on my heart.  I feel the rhythm of my
heart beat.
Paul, this is the heart you used to feel every day.  Now I’m
feeling it for you…

Yeah, I’m a city girl.  I don’t know how milk is sanitized.
I’m sure I don’t know many other things, either.  But I can learn, right?  I’m
a smart girl.  I can learn quickly.  I sure can.

Then, of course, I will have to work hard.  If I choose to
be a wife living on a farm, I’m going to be busy with so many things, kids,
husband, cows, chicken, lambs, and, of course, crops, too.  But that’s going to
be fun.  I’m sure I’m going to be a happy wife and proud mother.  After being
so close to death, I will appreciate everything I get.  My life is now more
enjoyable, a lot more.

But… what about Paul?  Does he like me?  Will he feel like I
am just feeling sorry for him and want to comfort him for now?  What about my
health?  Is it a concern because my body is weak and I have to go through the
lifetime care plan?

Paul, are you missing me?  If I tell you I love you, do
you believe me?

Paul?

Chapter Four

“Paul, can we meet again?  I want to talk to you.”  I say.

I hear static in my cellphone but nothing else.  After a
long while, Paul’s baritone comes, “Linda, I really appreciate your call.
However…”

“‘However’ what?” I ask.

“However, I’m missing Jean so much.  I’m not sure if this is
a good time to meet.”

“Paul, it’s not a date.  We meet as friends.  Okay?
Friends.”

“Hmmm… Okay.  I guess so.  Where should we meet then?”  he asks.

“How about on your farm?” I say.

“On the farm?  Why?”  He sounds so surprised.

“Yup.  So you can show me how to milk cows.” I smile.

“O-k-a-y…” Paul sounds so hesitating.  He pauses for a short
while and then he adds, “Linda, I want to let you know the farm is quite
different from what you see in a movie or on TV.”

“Why?  Don’t you have cows and wild flowers?”  I ask.

“Sure I do.  But…”

“‘But’ what?” I ask.

“You know, there is dirt.  Also, animals smell, especially
in the summer.”

That’s true.  I have no idea about the dirt.  But I know
animals do smell in the summer.  After years ago, I went to the African Safari in
a hot day to see lions, tigers, and other animals.  I closed my car windows
tight but still I could smell it.  I was planning to have lunch in their lunching
area but the smell was so strong, I had to drive back home instead.

“Linda, are you still there?” I hear Paul’s voice.  I know I
had been thinking for too long.  “Yup.  I’m here.  And I’m coming.” I say.

“Thank you, Linda.  How about tomorrow morning?  It’s
Saturday.”

“Sure,” I smile.

“I’ll pick you up then.”

It takes almost two hours to get to his farm.  It’s in a beautiful,
broad valley.  I see cows, horses, and lambs all over.  Farm houses decorated
the green fields.  After so many turns, Paul finally pulls up in front of a
large farm house.

He rushes to open the car door for me. “Welcome to my farm,
Linda.”  He smiles.

I put my foot on the ground.  There is no asphalt or brick
pavement.  Instead, the ground is covered with find sand.  My heels sink in a
bit.

“You okay?”  Paul asks.

“Yeah.” I smile.  “Give me a sec, please.”  I take off my
heels and put on my flats.  I try it again.  As Paul had told me, they work much
better.

I extend my hand.  Paul hesitates for a short moment and
then holds my hand.  “Watch out, Linda,” he says softly.

I look around.  It’s like a beautiful oil painting.  The
ground is all green.  White, yellow, purple, and red flowers are everywhere.  The
farm house and the barn are standing high in the middle of the hill.  Horses
and cows are grazing peacefully.  A big, black Labrador is chasing a few sheep
and goats.  Suddenly, a goat turns back to charge at the dog.  The Labrador runs
away.

I breathe in hard, but I don’t smell anything.  Oh, well, I
do smell the freshness of the field.  I smell harder.  This time, I smell
something special.  I’m not sure what it is.  But I’m sure it’s specific to
farms.

“Manure.” Paul winks.  He let go my hand and says, “This
way.”

He opens a wooden door on a fence.  We come into a large
garden.  I see vegetables everywhere.  “Is this a vegetable garden, Paul?”

“Yup.”  He picks a tomato. “Try it.”

I look around and see a water tap.  I run over to wash the
tomato.  “You don’t have to.”  Paul smiles.  He picks a big one and bites down
hard.

I take a small bite.  It
is
fresh.  Hmmm, very good.
I swallow and then ask, “Paul, don’t you buy vegetables from the market?” I’m
glad I said
market
instead of
supermarket
because I know there
are special farm markets where you can buy absolutely fresh vegetables.

“Sure I do.”  He smiles. “Meanwhile, it’s so convenient to
have my own organic vegetable garden.”

We pick tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, and some beans.
We put them in a large basket.  I look around. “You don’t grow mushrooms?”

“I don’t have to.  I pick.”  Paul smiles, pointing at the
woods up on the hill.  “Next time, I will show you but we have to wait until it
rains.”

“Sure.” That’s going to be fun.

Paul brings the basket into the kitchen.  “Want to get some
fresh milk?” He smiles.

“Yup.” I say.

“Well,” Paul scratches his head.  “As I said, the farm is
not the same in the movies or on the TV.”

“What do you mean?” I ask.

“We have to wear boots.”  He says.

“I know where my boots are.”  I walk over to pick up my
boots.  Then, my heart races right away.
Linda?  What’s going on?  These
are
not
your boots.  They are Jean’s.  How do you know they are here?

I take a deep breath to calm down.  I sit on a stool to take
off my flats and put on the boots.  They are a bit too large.  I stand up and
walk around.  I feel funny and have a hard time to keep balance at the very
beginning but I get used to it quickly.

I walk over to Paul and show him the boots.  “See, they
fit.”  I smile.

“Jean?” Paul’s eyes are all red.  He raises his hands,
reaching for me.  They are all trembling.

I walk one step ahead.  “Paul…” I look into his eyes.  My
body is warming up quickly.  I feel the strong desire to be hugged and kissed.

Paul holds my body and then lets go right away.  He looks at
me intensely.  I can feel he is trying to control his feelings.  “Jean…” he
mumbles.  He lowers his lips.  I close my eyes and wait.  I feel his breath and
then the kiss… on my chin, very lightly.

“Paul?” I open my eyes and ask.

“Sorry, Linda, I thought you were…”  I can barely hear his
voice.

“Paul, this is real.” I whisper.  “It’s Jean’s heart.  You
know it is.”

“But you are Linda.  You are such a sweet and nice girl.”

Chapter Five

“Thank you, Paul.  But don’t you know I… like you?  Can’t
you tell my… feelings?” I look at him and wait.  But he doesn’t say anything.
“Paul?”

I feel like two feelings are running in my body, one from
Jean and the other one from myself.  They mix together and add up so quickly, I
can barely control myself.

“Paul, I am both Jean and Linda.  You don’t have to choose.
And life has to go on.  Paul, are you listening?”

“Linda,” Paul murmurs.  “I’m sorry.  I love Jean so much.
She is everything for me.”

“Isn’t her heart worthwhile your love?” I ask Paul.  I hold
his hand and put it on my left wrist.  “Do you feel my pulses, Paul?  They are
the beats from Jean’s heart.”

Paul feels my pulses carefully.  “Linda, you’re right.
That’s Jean’s heart beating.  But this body is not hers.”  He stops for a short
while and pulls his hand back.  “Linda, you are younger and prettier.  And you
are so sweet and understanding.  I thank you with all my heart for coming into
my life.  Meanwhile, I feel so guilty when thinking Jean left me for only a few
months.”

“Paul, why did Jean’s heart come to my body?  Why was it a
perfect match?  I had only five days left in this world when I received her
heart.  Was this a coincidence or what?  Don’t you think this was all bound to
happen?”

He is trying to say something.  His lips moves a few times
but nothing comes out.

“Paul, Jean stays with me.  And so does your love for her.  Don’t
you think so?”

“Linda, how much do you know me?  Is it because you feel
sorry or sad for what happened to me?  Are you going to feel sorry later on for
what may happen today?  I want you be happy for the rest your life, Linda.  I
may not be worth your love.”

“Paul, I don’t know what will happen ten or twenty years
later.  But, for now, I know I’ve found the man I love.  And I’m sure you have
feelings for me, too.”

“How did you know I have feelings for you?”  Paul murmurs,
his face turning red all over.  His eyes avoid mine.

“How did I not know, Paul?  I’m a girl.”

Paul looks into my eyes, his lips are trembling, “Linda?
Jean?  My girl…”

My body is squeezed to his by his strong arms.  My lips are
sucked hard into his.  I feel like I know what’s going to happen—my heart is
telling me, like a movie playing in my head.

My lips part, waiting for Paul’s tongue to come in.  Here it
comes, all the way to the very depth of my mouth.  His tongue plays with mine
for a few times.  I raise my tongue a bit because I know his is going to reach
the bottom of mine.  It comes, wrapping at the bottom of my tongue, giving it a
good massage.

I know it’s now my turn.  I move my tongue down as his is
moving up.  I give his exactly the same massage.

We both become turned on.  I break the kiss and moan
lightly.  I turn my body a bit to expose my heart to him.  His hand moves down
in harmony, unfastening the first button on my blouse and pushing down my bra.

He pushes his hand on my breast and keeps still.  I know he
is trying to feel the beats of Jean’s heart—and now mine.  My heart races.
“Paul, I’m all yours today.”  I whisper.

“I’m yours, too, Linda.”  He looks into my eyes.

He lifts my body and carries me into the bedroom.  He puts
me on bed and removes my blouse and bra.  He then removes everything else
carefully, piece by piece.

I feel like I know what’s going to happen next.  My body
cooperates perfectly with his every move.  Soon, I have no fabric left on my
body.

Paul runs his hand along my left thigh, all the way up until
he reaches the top of my crotch.  My pussy is tingling and all wet.  I spread
my arms and legs, moaning.  “Paul,” I gasp.  “Please, do it to me now.  Paul?
Fuck into my body hard now.  Please… ”

Paul removes his clothes and moves on my body.  He pushes
very hard.  I feel a bit of painful but I am so thrilled.  I move my lips to
search for his.  He kisses down very hard, charging non-stop.

Suddenly, I feel the explosion of my orgasm.  I almost black
out.  My moaning turns into sharp screams.  For a moment or two, I’m so scared
by my very own screams.

I hold my thighs tight and let go right away.  Then I push
my hips up to enjoy his charge more.  I feel my orgasm fading away, bit by
bit.  Paul moves his body a bit up and charges harder.  His thick cock fucks
deep into the bottom of my pussy, sending me to my second climax right away…

This has been our third month together.  Paul proposed to me
two weeks ago.  Now, officially, he is my fiancé and I’m his wife to be.  I’m
the happiest girl in the whole world.

The life on the farm is not easy.  There is no weekend.
Cows don’t stop producing milk.  So, we have to milk them every day.  There are
so many other things we have to take care of, too.
