His gaze seemed to search hers to make certain she was
being truthful before he exhaled a breath. “Okay.” Looking up at me Nic gave me
an indebted smile. ‘Thank you, Nadia.”
I wondered if I was forgiven now for not revealing
Landon’s business. Giving him a grin I shrugged. “I’m sorry Carrie was upset,
but I had fun doing it.”
Seth hand was still in mine and he pulled me closer to
him. “You’re demented.” He said affectionately kissing my jaw causing my grin
and body to go
wishy-slabyy
(wishy-washy).
“I thought we already established that.” I retorted
impudently.
“No, we established that were diabolical.” He
countered.
I grinned. “So I’m demented and diabolical. I’m the
ultimate supervillain.”
Seth’s expression turned wicked. “Please tell me you
wear a tight leather outfit, just like Cat Woman.” His eyes rolled back and he
slumped in a mock swoon. “That would be so awesome.”
I laughed, as did Carrie and Nic. “As long as you wear
one like the Green Lantern.” I re-countered.
Nic and Carrie laughed harder.
Seth frowned in thought and then looked aghast. “Uh…I
don’t think so. That thing shows everything.”
I gave him a scowl. “So does Cat Woman’s.” I could see
he was about to say something so I held up my hand to stop him. “I know you’re
going to say that she looked hot in it, so just to head you off, so did Ryan
Reynolds.”
He returned my scowl as though upset that I thought
Ryan Reynolds was hot. “I doubt that was even his body. It was probably CGI’d.”
“If that makes you feel better you go ahead and believe
it.” I responded patting his chest in placation.
“It actually does, thank you.” He grumbled sounding
truly thankful.
Chuckling I smiled up him as he stared down at me his
mouth-watering dimples digging deep. I kept enough awareness to my surroundings
to notice the sudden complete silence next to us. Looking sideways I saw Nic
watching us in faint incredulity.
I raised my brows. “What?” Seth also gave him a
questioning look.
Nic shook his head. “You two are just really good
together. I’ve never seen you this open…and talkative. ” He declared looking at
Seth with a half-smile, but then his expression turned humorous. “And then
there’s what happens when you two lock lips.” He made an explosion motion with
his hands.
My face heated. I wasn’t necessarily embarrassed about
PDA’s, but we did get a bit carried away when we kissed.
“Nic…” Seth pulled me closer like I needed protection
or something against Nic’s words. Words that were said in good humor.
O,chert
voz’mi
, talk about overprotective.
“Yeah Nic…” I echoed rolling my eyes. Seth needed to
realize, I could stick up for myself, even when I didn’t need sticking up for.
Seth pinched my waist making me jump while Nic laughed.
“She’s starting to sound like you too.” He said.
Seth gave us both a disgruntled look. “Nadia and I are
going to head out. This sidewalk convo is fun and everything, but I have
loftier plans for the night. We’ll see you guys later.” Seth led me away.
“See you later, Nadia.” Nic called out with a grin.
Carrie waved goodbye next to him.
“
Do svidaniya
.” I yelled back laughing as Seth
hauled me away. He was so damn cute when he got all cave-manny. “So, where are
we going?”
“It’s a surprise.” He answered shortly. When we arrived
at the truck Seth bundled me in and seconds later we were headed down the road.
“Will Carrie be alright? She looked awfully upset when
that girl accosted her.” I shifted in my seat so I was facing him.
Anger suffused Seth’s face once more. “She’ll be okay.”
He threw me a glance. “What did the girl actually say?”
I grimaced in remembrance. “That Carrie was molested by
her father and that she killed him.” My heart hurt for her if the story was in
anyway true. It seemed impossible, because while Carrie was kind of quiet, she
appeared too well adjusted for someone who might have gone through something
like that.
Seth sighed. “It’s somewhat true.”
O moy Bog
!
“Normally I wouldn’t talk about other people’s
business, especially Carrie’s, but because of what you already heard, and
because I trust you,
and
since Carrie gave me a nonverbal cue to speak
to you, so…” Seth proceeded to fill me in on Carrie’s past leaving me shocked,
overwhelmed, and awed that she’d come out of that mess intact emotionally, not
to mention unbelievably sweet.
Seth squeezed my hand getting my attention. “Try not to
treat Carrie differently. You may have noticed her watching you guardedly back
there, that’s because she was unsure of how you would behave towards her after
finding out about her past. She still expects a certain amount of rejection
from people.”
“I will try not to prostrate myself at her feet and
declare my utmost admiration for her by smiling and laughing like normal, but
it will be difficult. She must be an exceptionally strong person to have
survived all that with her faith in people intact.”
It amazed me that she held forgiveness in her after
everything that had happened to her. I still hadn’t forgiven my father for what
he did and it wasn’t half that bad. Carrie was just a way better person than I
was apparently.
“She is,” he nodded in agreement, but then gave me a
smile of appreciation. “What you did back there for her was great. You turned
something that could have been horrible into something humorous. It was
exceedingly compassionate and ingenious. Carrie wasn’t kidding when she said
you handled it better than Nic. He would have most likely railed on the chick
making more of a scene, while you resourcefully displaced the attention onto
her.”
The weight of his praise felt heavy on my shoulders. “It
wasn’t that big of a deal, the girl had it coming.”
He chuckled. “I thought you were going to ruin the
whole thing and bust out laughing when I made that comment on her breast size.”
I sniggered along with him but soon our chortling turned into full blown
laughter as we recalled Brenda’s varied expressions.
We had been driving for quite a while and ridden some
distance out of town when Seth turned right onto a dirt road. I remembered he
said he had a surprise for me, but where in the hell was he taking us?
“Is this where you take me to some deserted spot and do
away with me, Jason style?” I asked looking out my window into the dark woods.
“Jason style?” He asked in confusion.
“Jason…from
Friday the Thirteenth
. He killed all
those sexed up camp counselors.”
It was impossible to see his face in the nearly
complete darkness, but I did see the quick jerk of his head in my direction.
“Shit, you’re not really frightened that I’ll do something to you, are you?”
I may have trust issues, but they weren’t that extreme.
“No, I’m just wondering what possible plans you have for us out in the middle
of no where?”
“You’ll find out in two minutes.” He answered, and
almost two minutes later we broke from the forest into a clearing where Seth
parked the truck. “Wait there, I’ll come around and get you.” Reaching in the
back Seth grabbed a blanket and then exited the truck.
A blanket? What did he need a blanket for?
I watched his shadowy figure make its way around to my
side of the vehicle with varying degree of emotions. Just because I went up
like a Roman candle every time we touched didn’t mean I was ready to have sex
with him yet. Yeah, I wanted him, but…
Seth opened my door and the cab light lit up revealing
his adorable roguish smile. “You ready?”
My heart may have jumped excitedly at his smile, but I
gave him a brow lift of weighty inquiry. “Ready for what?” I asked with a
pointed look at the blanket.
Seth gave me the same pointed look back. “I didn’t
bring you out here for sex.” The corner of his mouth curled slightly. “But I
have to be truthful and say numerous errant thoughts crossed my mine at getting
you alone. I would be dead if they didn’t.” He held out his hand giving me a
warm smile. “Trust me.”
That was a significant request that made my heart jump
in trepidation. I know he only meant the words for tonight, but my hand
extended in automatic compliance telling me that trusting him was becoming way
too easy. It was a scary thought.
Reaching into the glove box Seth pulled out a lantern,
then taking my hand he led me a short distance to the edge of a hill top that
looked like it slopped down quite a distance. Because of the darkness I wasn’t
able to verify how far down it actually went. Seth situated the blanket on the
ground and then turned off the flashlight. Without the flashlight things got
very, very dark.
“
Bozhe,
I’ve never seen it this dark before.”
I’d grown up in a large city, and then relocated to another large city. There
were always lights on somewhere illuminating the night.
“It’s the perfect place for star gazing.”
Seth’s words had my gaze instantly going skyward, and I
was rather stunned at the sight that met my eyes. I had never seen so many
stars in the sky in my life. “
Eto
neveroyatno
.”
I whispered.
Seth wrapped his arms around me. “What’s that?” He
asked.
I tore my gaze from the sky to his face, but I couldn’t
make out his expression in the dark. His arms around me felt immensely secure
and…right, and I just wanted to burrow into them.
“I said, ‘it’s incredible’. I’ve never seen so many
stars before. How did you find this spot?” I looked back up at the sky in
amazement.
“My father told me about it. He went to UVA and he used
to come out here.”
I sniggered. “And what reason would your dad have for
coming out here?”
He laughed quietly. “That wasn’t discussed. He only
said it was a place he could decompress. And that’s why I brought you out here,
to decompress. Come on, let’s lie down.”
We lay down side by side. Seth put his arm under my
head as a pillow and though it wasn’t anywhere near as soft as a pillow I still
liked it for a head rest. The night was a warm sixty-five so we had no need to
use the blanket for warmth.
Looking up at the sky I sighed in wonderment. “It is
truly amazing. There’s just so many.”
For several minutes we stared up at the sky silently.
Seth had taken my hand and was holding it against his chest playing with my
fingers. It was soothing while still causing my heart to pitter-patter
delightedly.
“I love coming up here. It clears my head.” Seth said
quietly. “Looking up at this vast sky with its billions and billions of stars
makes whatever problems I have seem not so bad.”
I couldn’t argue with his reasoning because my mind
felt at peace. “This was a great surprise, thank you.” Turning on my side I
leaned over to kiss his cheek, but Seth’s head turned and I got his lips
instead. I was okay with that and continued to demonstrate my gratitude.
Gratitude didn’t last long though before true desire
kicked in…for both of us.
Seth shifted so that we were pressed against each other
side to side. We kissed deeply, leisurely, as though the night sky had lent us
some of its restraint, but it still triggered a profoundly physical response.
My body heated, my breasts swelled, my stomach quivered, and my sex throbbed in
want, but it was the wealth of emotions that welled up in me that had me gasping.
An unexpected tear seeped from my eye.
An instant later Seth pulled away and his fingers
brushed over my cheek. Shifting up on his elbow he hovered over me. “You’re
crying!?” He sounded stunned.
“I’m not crying.” I reached up and rubbed the offending
wetness away. “I don’t cry.” I tried sounding belligerent, but I think it came
out whiny instead.
Bog
, what was wrong with me?
Seth’s fingers brushed through my hair and over my face
softly. “Sorry. Can you tell me why your eyes are sweating?”
I snorted softly at his humor. “I don’t know. A wave of
emotion just washed over me all of a sudden.”
“Do you feel it?” The palm of his enormous hand settled
on the middle of my chest between my breasts. “Here?”
My heart bumped madly against his hand. “Feel what?” I
asked breathlessly.
Without answering my question he took my hand and set it
on his chest. “Because I feel it…here.” Bending down he nipped at my jaw.
I suddenly realized what he was saying and my heart beat
faster. “Are you sure you aren’t confusing that with what you feel further
down?” I joked weakly.
Lips moved up by my ear. “No. I’m pretty familiar with
the feelings down there; although, they
are
way more intense with you.”
He chuckled. “But what I’m starting to feel here…” He tapped my hand on his
chest. “It’s entirely new.”
I swallowed and my fingers kneaded at his muscled chest
involuntarily. “This intense physical reaction could just be ideal, albeit,
short lived chemistry.” I argued not able to accept his words so readily. I
mean, we’d just had our first date tonight. Although, these things I was
feeling for him…
Seth raised his head. “I think everyone who goes into a
relationship wonders if what they are feeling is real or physical, but that’s
where dating and time comes in. We can take things as slow as you want, Nadia.”
Inhaling a deep breath I looked up at the vast sky full
of stars. The time I spent with Seth was wonderful and exciting, even when all
we did was sit around my house, and every time he had to leave I was left
feeling deprived of his presence. He was becoming crucial to my having a good
day.
