There are lots of books about how to train your puppy, or you can do some research on the Internet. You might also be able to find dog training classes in your neighborhood.
Always be kind to your puppy when you are training it. Use lots of praise, pats, and treats. If your dog would rather play with a ball than eat a biscuit, use playtime as a reward instead of food.
Don't yell or jerk the leash. And remember that most puppies can't pay attention for much more than ten minutes at a time. Keep your training sessions short!

A few years ago my niece Katie was the puppy raiser for a yellow Lab puppy. She was named Oreo. Katie took care of Oreo for a whole year, and Oreo went everywhere with her, dressed in a little blue vest that said, “Guide Dog in Training.” After a year, Oreo went off for more training. Katie got to go to her graduation.
Katie said that raising Oreo was lots of fun but also a big responsibility. It made Katie sad to give her up, but it makes her feel good to know that Oreo is helping to make someone's life better every day.
