“C’mon. We gotta go. You can let out all your aggression on Tim at the gym.”

“I’ll meet you there. I need to find her.”

“Do you need us?”

“No, I need to do this on my own.”

“Alright, call if you need us.”

“Yeah… I’ll be there in an hour.”

I rode my truck around looking for any sign of Cheyenne. I tried all the usual places, but still I found nothing. The longer I searched, the more a feeling of unease crept over me. There was one place left, and while I knew I should call Colt and Tim for back-up, something was telling me just to play it cool. Pulling a U-turn on Monument Avenue, I pointed my truck in the direction of the Seventy Devils’ HQ.   I saw Trent running ahead of me. Trent broke out into a run, pounding the pavement. He was quick, but he was no match for my truck. I wasn’t counting on Jimmy and several other Devils to come out of the building. Guns in their hands, Jimmy and Dave took aim at my front tires, hell bent upon taking me out. They had terrible aim. It was really quite pathetic.

Dave missed his shot four times, Jimmy three times, but then, Gunnar Rhoades can out with a shot gun and blew a hole in my front left tire. Careening out of control, I damn near ran Jimmy Hearns over as the truck plowed into the west wall of the Seventy Devils HQ.

Now this was the kind of adrenaline I liked!

“WOOOOOO!” I yelled as I plowed through the wall, shocking the shit out of the Devils that sat inside the dining room. My truck was demolished, but I was good. I climbed out of my truck to find myself surrounded by seven Devils looking pissed and confused. Pulling my handgun out of my back pocket, I circled the room pointing the gun in the face of each member.

“C’mon. Let’s dance.”

Several of them came at me, but when I saw the motorcade show up with over twenty Devils, I knew what I had to do.

Fuck
.

I ran. I barreled ass so hard and so fast up Monument Avenue I thought my legs were going to give out. I knew where I had to go. The one place that would have guys already assembled. Colt’s gym was about to get a rude awakening.

Finally, I arrived and booked through the double doors. I’m sure I must have looked insane.

“If you’ve got a weapon, you’d better grab it! They’re comin’!” I shouted.

“What are you talking about?!” Tim asked.

“I crashed my truck into Seventy Devils Headquarters. There is a giant hole in the side of their building now. It’s their own fucking fault for shooting out my tires. I took out at least ten bikes in the process. They. Are. Pissed!”

“Are you alright?!”

“Crazy son of a bitch!” Torian yelled, giving Jax a wide-eyed look.

I was bleeding from my head where I had made contact with the windshield on impact.

“Shit! I don’t know! At least twenty of them are coming. Hurry up!”

Not thirty seconds later, the double doors of the gym slammed open with Gunnar Rhoades, Trent Myers and Jimmy Hearns leading the pack. I wasn’t kidding. Colt counted a total of twenty-nine assholes in leather marching through the doors. The ring cleared out as all the guys took cover. Colt grabbed his handgun out of his gym bag, loaded it and aimed straight for his half-brother’s head. I already had my gun in my right hand and had Trent Myers in my sights. Tim had retreated to the office and had our uncle on the horn telling him to get his boys down here ASAP. The weight room had emptied out and a dozen more men comprised of body builders, one pro-basketball player and a couple of amateur wrestlers came out to see what was going on. Seeing who they were interrupted by, they stood behind Colt, Jax, Harlan and I as they waited to hear what the problem was.

Jimmy spoke, “Colt.”

“Jimmy,” Colt returned.

“We got a problem…”

“Damn right you do. Get the
fuck
out of my gym.”

“No can do, ya see, your boy there… The crazy one that’s bleeding from the head… He did some major damage to our headquarters… So I only see it fitting that we return the favor.”

“Did he now?” Colt asked as cocky smile grew across his face.

Slapping hands with me, Colt said, “Nice job, man.”

Jimmy gathered Trent and Gunnar in front of him. “Shoot the place up, leave Colt and Randy alive.”

Trent looked at Jimmy like he was nuts.

“They are the ones we’ve been looking for!”

“I need them to tell me where my girl is…”

“Fuck, Jimmy! I don’t give a damn where she is!” Trent screamed.

“And you ain’t in charge, now do as I say or it’ll be a bullet in your head instead of theirs!”

“This fucking dude is out of his skull.”

“Fall in, Myers…” Gunnar said with a look of warning.

“No! Bullshit! This is all over a girl! A simple bitch!”

Jimmy turned to Trent and sent a fist flying towards his face connecting with his jaw as more blood spurt from his mouth.

“Fucking Hearns!”

I leaned in to Colt and whispered, “What are we waiting for?”

“If they make the first move, we can prove that we were defending ourselves. Hold your ground.

I’ll have this all on tape.”

Colt pointed to the surveillance camera that hung in the far left corner of the gym. Jimmy raised his gun and shot a bullet into the air and the Devils were released. Fists flew, bullets swirled through the air and a battle broke out in the expanse of the gym. Colt held back making his brother come to him, while I was on the hunt for Trent. Jax got a running start and pinned two Devils to the ground, while Harlan kicked another square in the chest sending him falling backwards out the door of the gym. He turned around only to walk into a sucker punch from Gunnar Rhoades. Harlan took the hit and laughed, gripping Rhoades by his shirt collar he lifted him off his feet and threw him out. Torian, though he was short, he was strong as hell and had a low center of gravity. He tackled one of the bikers and waited for Will to help him eject him from the building. Harlan stood by the front door monitoring who got in and out. Tim, carrying a chair out of the office, swung it and sent it crashing against the back of a Devil. He didn’t know what hit him as he crashed to the ground. Jimmy stalked through the crowd looking for his brother. Colt sat in a chair, nonchalantly watching with amusement as his brother tried to look intimidating. Colt couldn’t help but laugh.

Uncle Shawn had just stormed through the door with several officers behind him.

“Shut this shit down!” Shawn yelled sending the officers into the shit storm that had erupted in the middle of the gym.

“Let’s go, Hearns!” Shawn yelled as a pair of officers escorted him out of the building.

“Everything alright?” Shawn asked.

“For now,” Colt said.

“It’ll be taken care of,” I said.

“Better believe that,” Colt said slapping my hand.

Colt shook Shawn’s hand tightly, and as the hand shake ended they were distracted by the sight of me steamrolling Trent and slamming him onto a table. The table crashed into splintered wood onto the floor. Trent was flattened out on his back but he was still conscious.

“Fucking nutjob,” Trent said staring up at me.

“You have no idea!” I said smiling as I spit in Trent’s face. “Piece of shit…” I said as I began rifling through Trent’s pockets for any clue as to where Cheyenne might be. I found nothing.

“C’mon Myers… get up!” Officer Diaz yelled at him as they put him in cuffs.

“We’re going to need the surveillance footage,” Shawn said.

“No problem. I’ll have Jax pull it for you.”

As the standing Devils were hauled out of the gym, Colt looked around at the wreck.

“Well that was fun…”

After the beat down at the gym, Colt, Tim and I headed up to the ranch to get cleaned up. We had to get something to eat so we went to Patton’s Steak House. We didn’t even get to sit down to eat though, because two officers came in with warrants for mine and Colt’s arrest. With Jimmy Hearns right on their tail, I knew this was Devil retaliation.

60.

Cheyenne

My lungs felt like they were about to explode. I heaved myself into the dark of the alley, doubling over as I grabbed my stomach in pain. My hands trembled, withdraw was kicking in. My skin itched, but no matter how I scratched, the agitation was not relieved. I knew I was in trouble. It wasn’t just cocaine in my system. The shakes, the itching, the upset stomach… Trent had pumped heroin into my system. Paranoia skyrocketed. I knew I was being hunted. I knew it. But I couldn’t help but wonder if I would feel this freaked out were I not coming down from a high.

I tried to run through the darkness but I was light-headed and fell to my feet. Crashing to the hard concrete ground, I hit the ground hard, my mind drifting somewhere between unconsciousness and sleep.

“Damn it, Randy! Pick up the phone!” I yelled into the receiver of the pay phone. My voice shook as I spoke and my typically tan skin had taken on a blanched appearance.

I listened to the phone ring as I eyed the graffiti that covered the pay phone in the Gas & Go on Route 1, just minutes outside of Oakeley. My red hoodie covered my wavy ombre hair and my face was hidden under heavy eye make-up and the unmistakable remnants of a black eye. My right eyelid had turned a deep shade of blue while a nasty bruise across my left cheek was fading to a sickly shade of green. Trent always did have a mean left hook. The sleeves of my hoodie fell over my hands, covering up bloody knuckles. The fingers of my left hand tapped nervously on the side of the pay phone.

Ten rings.

Twenty rings.

One hundred and fifty-two taps of my nail on the dirty surface of the phone.

Finally, Randy’s voice came over the line.

I closed my eyes as I listened to Randy’s husky voice, the voice I wished would talk to me. Whisper sweet nothings. Say he forgave me. Shit, curse me out for being an idiot. But as it was, Randy hadn’t returned any of my calls. All sixty-seven of them.

“Hi, you’ve reached Randy… Leave me a message… or don’t. I don’t give a shit. If I like ya, I just might call ya back.”

Beep
!

I sighed heavily. I knew I was over the top. Possessive. Out of control. But I loved Randy, and now, I needed him more than ever. But before I had the chance to plead with him for the third time today, something had rendered me speechless.

I glanced behind me as I heard a pair of footsteps beating hard against the cracking linoleum floors of the Gas & Go mini-mart. As I glanced behind me, I recognized them immediately. Their sadistic smiles, black leather jackets with the Seventy Devils MC patch and the pungent smell of sweat and alcohol permeating into the air. Trent Myers and Gunnar Rhoades were beating a path straight towards me. Before I could run, before I could even scream, Gunnar Rhoades had stalked me straight into a corner. Grabbing a handful of my black and blonde hair, Gunnar drug me behind him as I kicked, screamed and tried to break free. This could only end one way. Everyone around here knows the stories. The ones who go missing, were taken by the Devils. I kicked free and crawled on my hands and knees trying to stand up and break into a run. I barreled down the aisle knocking over a kiosk of gift cards that could be purchased at the front register, sending the cards flying across the floor. Trent skidded as he chased behind me, but I went down, sliding on the merchandise. As I hit the floor, I heard the sharp crack of the butt of Trent’s rifle crashing into my skull. My head fell limp as Gunnar and Trent pulled me from the shop and tossed me in the back of Gunnar’s black Hummer.

I was aware without actually being awake, dipping in and out of a conscious state. My feet dragged across the asphalt parking lot as Trent Myers and Gunnar Rhoades pulled me from the truck and prepared to deliver me to Jimmy, the new President of the Seventy Devils and Colt’s half-brother. Trent felt no remorse. Not even a twinge of guilt for the act.  They didn’t even bother walking through the front door of the club. They pulled me straight through the rubble, into dining hall, where Randy’s truck had plowed through. Trent unlocked the basement door and tossed me down the steps. I fell down the stairs, hitting several steps on the way. A nail sticking up through the floorboard punctured through the skin on my leg. My face scraped against the hardwood planks and with a crash I fell to the cement basement floor. As the heavy metal door shut, I slipped into darkness.

***

Jimmy followed Trent down the cellar stairs with a rabid look in his eyes. Gunnar was already down in the cellar and had me hoisted up on a folding chair. My legs and arms were bound and I had a strip of duct tape over my mouth to prevent me from screaming. My eyes were bruised shut, blood stained my shirt and jeans and I knew I was completely unrecognizable.
